IPhone 4S Clean ITunes Install of 8.1...Others Experiences?

Greetings all!
A number of my Apps on my 4S have been upgraded to a point they will not update on my 4S.
I did a clean install of the most recent IOS version using ITunes on my IPad2 and while performance is better than the initial upgrade it is still not great.
Updates always seem to be showing in the App Store even after they have been applied.
I want to take my IPhone up to current level doing the restore in ITunes but ask for some feedback from the community from anyone who has done this already.
Is the phone better or worse in day to day operations?
Any major issues in Bluetooth or WiFi to be concerned with?
Thanks to all....Dave

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now??
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Sorry that you lost your data through a HD crash and had to replace the HD. One of our other users posted a tip on how to sync an iPhone after you have replaced a HD.

  • IPhone 4 and iTunes 9.2 is a miserable experience

I continue to have weird and random issues syncing iPhone 4 with iTunes 9.2. I will not have issues for days and then it will start. This morning, I had to do 4 syncs before it would complete. The prior attempts just ended in lockups: locked up sending a podcast to the iPhone 4, locked up at the end of the backup, locked up during a "verify".
This is the same PC I was using to sync my iPhone 3GS. There is either a big, big problem with iTunes 9.2 OR iPhone 4 OR both. Apple needs to get this fixed pronto.

FWIW I'm pretty sure it's iTunes.
I have an iPhone 4 and iTouch 3G, my wife has an iTouch 1G and an iPhone 3GS.
ALL have issues with iTunes starting at v 9.2 which I had to install to use iOS4...
IHMO, iTunes has never been a 'good' piece of software, especially on Windows but the Mac version isn't that much better. As much as Jobs would hate to admit it, he needs to get some Windows programmers to make this thing works and works well. There are more alternatives to Apple products hitting the shelves and initial popularity isn't going to carry over if the end-product is just plain bad.

Actually his post sounded more like a complaint than a request for support, and even though this is forum under Apple.com>*Support*>Discussions, it is a good place to exchange information with other users. For example, with iOS4 and itunes 9.2 things work a lot better for me. Apple has finally started to address some bugs that affected me since Iphone OS 3.1. Even though the upgrade took like 3 hours.

  • Can't sync iPhone because new iTunes install is not 64 Bit.

The error message is: "this iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64-bit version of itunes.".
I've browsed a few forum posts, but this is a brand new computer, and I'm shocked that the itunes installation doesn't work.
    steps:
    1. I'm downloading itunes64Setup.exe, and running the installation.
    2. I plug in my iPhone. I get the message. "this iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64-bit version of itunes.".
How is this possible? it's a brand new installation? It starts by trying to install the files into C:\program files (x86)\itunes, not C:\program files\itunes, but when I run the installation, I see files in both locations.
    How do I fix this?

Yeah, I have the same problem. Supposedly you access devices by clicking on the little iPhone icon - except there is no little icon when my iPhone and/or iPad are connected:
View your iOS device by clicking on the iOS device icon in the upper-left corner.

  • HT201269 Just backed up my iPhone 5 through iTunes, installed iOS 7; now prompted to setup as new device or restore backup; select restore backup but prompted for a password .... which Password???!!!!!

I don't remember ever entering a password for backing up my iPhone 5; tried the password for my AppleID account => doesn;t work; stuck with my phone, unable to rstore

    Thanks Dajank,
I know what you're saying but I actually never selected the encypted backup. I talked to an Apple rep. about 1/2 an hour ago and she confirmed encrypted backup requires you enter the Password twice the 1st time you set it up. I'm positive I never did.
Wonder if the corporate (security) policies installed on my phone have anything to do with it. I'll have to wait and check tomorrow at work.

  • Sync iPhone with a fresh iTunes install

I had to erase the hard drive partition and reinstall 10.6 after kernel panics put my system out of commission. I was able to backup iTunes using the iTunes library backup from within iTunes itself. After I reinstalled 10.6 I inserted the iTunes backup DVDs and the music, videos, and playlists were restored to the computer perfectly. However, the photos on my iPhone are going to be deleted when I instruct iTunes to sync photos (at least that's what I think the warning is telling me). I failed to backup iPhoto, so I do not have a backup of all of those photos. I am sad about this. Is there any way to get the photos from my phone to my computer?
Also, I had iPhoto that was pre-installed when my macbook shipped to me. Now that I have had to reinstall the OS as clean install, I do not have iPhoto. If I am able to get iPhoto off of the 10.5 OS disks that came with the computer, will iPhoto take the pictures off of my iPhone? Is it possible to install iPhoto from the 10.5 disks? It is not on the 10.6 disks.
I know that is a lot of questions and if I had backed up the photos, I would no have had this problem. While I realize that no claim is made as to the iPhone being a backup devise, it does store photos (a lot of them) and I thought (assumed) that if the photos were on the iPhone, they would go back on the computer.

"What do you mean the photo sync is one way?"
Photos are sync from the computer to the iphone. They are not synced from the iphone to the computer.
" It appears to me that iTunes is going to erase the photos on the iPhone. It states that it will replace all the pictures on the iPhone with pictures from the selected folder, the folder happens to be ~/Pictures, which is empty."
This is indeed what will happen. The iphone will sync itunes content and pics from one computer/library at a time. When you sync to another, it will first erase the media from your iphone, then replace with content from the new computer/library.

If your computer is running an OS X prior to Snow Leopard 10.6,
the answer (if it is an Intel-based Mac; not old PowerPC model)
would be to buy the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD from Apple
for about $20, and install it. Then update that to 10.6.8 by using
the installed Snow Leopard online to get Combo Update v1.1 for
Snow Leopard 10.6.8. After that is installed & updated, run the
system's Software Update again, to see what else is available to
    that system.
Later systems can then be looked into at Mac App Store, once
the computer is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
And if your computer is a Power PC (G4/G5, etc) and has no
Core2Duo kind of CPU -- See "About this Mac" in apple menu
to disclose the general info about your Mac. Also you can see
even more by clicking on "More Info" when looking in there...
If it isn't an Intel-based Mac, it can't run a system past 10.5.8.
    Hopefully this helps.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do you sync an existing iPhone to a new iTunes install?

I had to reformat my MBP to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard, but now I have a question with iTunes.
I loaded my whole library of songs and apps into the new install of iTunes, but now I need to sync my iPhone 4 and iTunes is trying to overwrite ALL of my apps and their data. I don't want to loose any apps or data that is on the iPhone. So how can I sync my phone again without having the new iTunes overwrite the iPhone? I need iTunes to copy down what is on the phone FIRST and then sync. Not try to overwrite the iPhone.
    Thanks

    Ok I did all that.
However, when I got back into the iPhone settings, the Apps Tab, "Sync Apps" is still not checked. When I click on it, I get the same warning message that it will erase all apps and data on the iPhone. Is it really going to do that or will it load all my saved data from when I did "Transfer Purchases"?
I think all the apps will load back fine, but I don't want to loose all the data associated with all the apps and games.
    Thanks again!

  • What is best practice for installing husband/wife iPhones on one iTunes account?

Is there a way to install two iPhones (or iPads for that matter) on one iTunes account in order to share apps, music, books, HOWEVER, keep contacts, calendar events, reminders separate?
Goal: I want to have my iPad and iPhone and my wife's iPhone on one iTunes account in order to share apps, music, books, etc.  I also want to backup my contacts, calendar events, reminders in the iCloud so synching across my iDevices and PC is easy and seemless.  How do I keep my contacts/calendar events from synching on her iPhone since they're both located in the same iTunes account?

Yes, you can use two individual Apple IDs for iCloud, iMessage, Facetime, etc. and use the existing iTunes account for setting up iTunes and App Stores to share app and music purchases.
You can set them up on both devices here:
    Individual Apple IDs
    Settings > iCloud
    Settings > Messages
    Settings > Facetime
Shared Apple ID for iTunes and App Store
Settings > iTunes & App Store

how do i sync apps to my iPhone 4S using itunes without losing aps already installed on the phone but with a different apple ID, and i dont have the apple ID??

How have you managed to get apps on your phone that are tied to a different and unknown AppleID?
If these apps were not purchased by you, having them is effectively software piracy and you should purchase them using your own AppleID if you want to keep hem.

  • Can I backup my iPhone into a new iTunes install on a new PC without losing all my data?

I've recently lost an old Windows XP PC which I have been using for several years and had my entire iTunes library and iPhone history. I have since purchased a new Windows 7 PC and installed itunes onto it.
Is it possible for me to sync my iPhone onto the new computer without losing any of the data on my phone? I don't have any music stored on my iPhone so that's not a problem, however, I do need to save all the current Contacts, Messages, E-Mails and Photos that are on the iPhone. Any help is much appreciated in this matter.
    - JD.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • How can I get my iTunes to start up after a clean re-install?

Following the corruption of many of my Applications and Files, I had to have a Clean Re-install done.
That solved most of the problems, but when I try to start iTunes it comes up with the iTunes Software Licence Agreement.
When I click on Agree, I get the message "The File 'iTunes Library' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. That's it.
Do I try update my current iTunes 6.0.2, or what?
Your help in solving this problem would be much appreciated.

I can only speak from a Windows perspective.
Have you tried uninstalling Itunes, then uninstall quicktime and reinstalling both ?
if you log onto the pc as another user does itunes work then ? if so quicktime and itunes are fine and it's something specific to the user.
Try finding the itunes library (for vista c:\users\users name\music\itunes most likely), this is where your music is going to be along with what seems to be configuation files for itunes for that user. Try renaming.
    Does Itunes work then ?
