Iphone 4s connectivity

Look at the new iphone 4s and trying to figure out at what speeds it connects.  I am on Sprint so the question is what the theoretical speed difference will be between samsung Epic (galaxy) and the new 4s.  Each provider has a different form of 4g so it is getting real confusing to differentiate between the two.  Samsung operates on sprints WiMax.  Will the iphone 4s operate on WiMax?  I have heard that the 4s uses HSPA but how does that fit into the 4g mix?  Any input on internet speeds would be appreciated.

Terms such as "3G" and "4G" are slippery since there's no definition as to what falls into those categories. The iPhone 4S is a GSM and CDMA phone supporting the protocols and standards as given on the tech specs:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
The iPhone 4S uses the full HSDPA which allows a theoretical data transfer rate of 14.4 megabits per second, an improvement over the iPhone 4 which is limited to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 HSUPA. This assumes that the carrier also supports it, of course.
