Iphone 4s does not go into recovery mode

My friend lost her passcode and got locked out. only solution was a recovery, i know all the steps and just did it to an ipad2 but this iphone is a little weird, instead of going into Recovery mode when connected to the computer while holding the home button, it goes into mass storage, and instead of the usual recovery mode thing on screen what comes up with this phone is the letters usb and battery levels. any ideas on how to restore?

It doen't seem to be jailbroken i thought that it was because of what it did but even jailbroken phones go into dfu right? when the phone is on and i connect the usb cable it gives me "usb config" which is really weird it has a couple of options like mass storage, java storage. pictbridge. and another option which i think its something like mtp storage.it behaves as if it was just any other mass storage device. i will ask her tomorrow if it has been jailbroken. is there a utility that would restore it if it was jailbroken since itunes doesnt seem to recognize it at all.

Try holding the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down until the Apple logo does not reappear--even if it takes a few minutes. Then try the DFU mode.

Help My iphone 5 display does not go into landscape mode and the rotation lock is not on . I done reinstalling the lates versionof iOS and restore my back up and restart my phone it dosen't work. See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

How many of these you can answer...
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

Help!!! I'm locked out and My Ipod touch will NOT go into recovery mode no matter what I do...I haven't read this problem anywhere!

My grandson got his little hands on my ipod and has locked me out. I now get the red lable of doom and it tells me I must connect to Itunes to fix it. Problem is I don't have the orginal computer I synced up with. (It crashed about 5 weeks ago). Well I didn't think that would be that big of a deal becuase I have a lot of junk on my Ipod and had been thinking about re-formating it anyway. Well I've tried every method out there and I can not get this thing into recovery. I powered it off. unplugged the usb cord from the Ipod but left it plugged into the computer. Held down the Home button and plugged in the USB cord. the little apple logo comes up. Then after about 10 secs it goes right to the disabled screen.
I also tried it on different computers and tried different usb cords, I've tried also going into DFU mode...nothing it just goes right to the password screen...HELP...I've not read about this problem anywhere.

Iphone 3g, os4 automatically going into recovery mode

hey when i first upgraded to os4 i had no problems
i upgraded the day it came out, and as of 20/7 at random times my phone keeps switching itself off, and i have no access to anything, nothing even comes up on the screen
the only way ive found to fix this is to plug it into the computer and then my itunes automatically says its in "recovery mode"
even after restoring- both from backup and from factory settings, it keeps doing it
there has been no patter, for example:
first time it happened after being on the charger (ac) for 5 minutes
second time i was sending a message
another time i sent a message, locked the phone and then went to unlock again in around 2 minutes and it was gone
any suggestions as to what i could do to improve it, ive been waiting to make a genius app, but i keep missing days when i can actually go in, and plus im not under warrenty anymore.

When you restore it, don't install your backup... see how it runs factory fresh, i.e. with nothing synced or added to it.

IPhone 5 Will Not Restore in Recovery Mode

Hi everyone,
I am currently having a pretty serious problem with my iPhone 5 16GB (iOS7.0.2). Today, I discovered that my phone was "searching" for cell service despite being in an area with good coverage. This issue continued for 5 hours. I tried to turn it on/off, a hard reset, turning "airplane mode" on/off, and even tried to restore it! When I attempted to restore it however, iTunes told me that "Find my iPhone" had to be turned off. Then, I kept getting an error that there was a problem deregistering it from my iCloud account. Finally, I decided (after creating a full backup) to put the phone into recover mode and try to restore it that way. Not only, did I get an "error (1)", I attempted that FIVE times and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode. Hopefully, I can get it fixed or else I'll have to replace the thing.
PLEASE HELP ME.
P.S. I might add that oddly, the phone still receives calls; my wife tried calling the phone, and it not only rings, it even goes to voicemail...

It sounds like you are unable to restore your device with iTunes at all. You did some great troubleshooting to start with. I would recommend the steps in this article named:

Install the latest version of iTunes.
Verify that your computer operating system is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after restarting.
On a Mac: In the Apple () menu, choose Software Update. Install all available updates.
On a Windows PC: Go to the Microsoft Windows Update page.
Check your security software: Note: Most restore issues are caused by out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software, firewalls, and network router settings or firmware.
Isolate the issue to third-party software.
Update security software.
Properly configure your security software.
Temporarily disable or uninstall your security software.
Temporarily remove any unnecessary USB devices, leaving only your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the USB cable that came with your device, and a keyboard and mouse, if necessary.
Restart your computer and try again.
Note: To perform some of these steps, you need to be logged in to the computer as an administrator. If you are not sure if you have administrator access, contact the owner of the computer or the system administrator.
You may have done a step or 2 already, so feel free to skip those steps you have done.

IPod Touch is disabled, won't connect to iTunes and will not go into recovery mode.

Hello! I had lost my iPod touch for several months and finally found it. However, I didn't remember the passcode. Now it's disabled and says to connect to iTunes. iTunes is saying that I must enter in the passcode before it can connect. I tried following apple's instructions on putting it in recovery mode, but when the home button is held down, only the apple logo appears until the disabled screen comes up again.
Any suggestions?

My iPad 2 is stuck in charging no matter how much ever I charge it and it does not even enter recovery mode

Picture this one fine day you get up in the morning to find that your iPads battery is dead so obviously u charge it and then after seven hours u see that the apple logo appears but it should have started but it never did. I tried recovery mode but by the time I download the software it goes back to requesting to charge and iTunes does not sense it. I have tried many things and many tricks but sadly none have worked and now my iPad 2 is catching dust for five months and now the conditions are worse the apple logo hardly appears and I want to bring it back to life and try the new ios7

Hopefully this will help you. Try placing your iPad in recovery mode again. You may have to try this a few times.

MacBook Pro (late 2008) automatic boot, does not get into sleep mode

I have a problem with my MBP (5,1). Since last tuesday the MBP boots automatically after it had been shut down if the power chord is still attached to the MBP. As well when closing the lid it goes into sleep mode but after a couple of minutes it tries to wake itself resulting in lighting up the Apple logo on the back of the lid. After that it goes into sleep mode again and starts all over with the procedure ...-wake up-lid still closed-sleep-wake up-...
I did not install or update any software since that day, the power management options "wake on LAN", and "restart after powerloss" are decativated. I do not have any scheduled boot or shut down times set. I removed all login-items, had a look for the "com.apple.AutoWake.plist" and deleted it. I do not have or had any eyeTV application installed. I have no clue what could have caused this behaviour.

That's what I was guessing as well. But unfortunately there is no other device connected to the MBP.
Here's a list of what I've tried so far:
- login-items deleted
- PRAM & SMC reset
- no boot schedules
- System Preferences Energy "Wake on Ethernet activity" deactivated
- System Preferences Energy "Automatic reboot after power-loss " deactivated
- eyeTV not installed (was never installed before)
- "com.apple.AutoWake.plist" in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ deleted
- mobileMe sync deactivated
- ComboUpdate installed
- booted in Safe Mode and tested
- setup new user and tested if the problem persists (in Safe Mode too)
- fresh install using a Time Machine backup
Well thanks for the that but let's keep writing in English I guess that's easier for both of us.
