Iphone 4s earpiece volume problem

So my 4s was working great, with no battery issues but now my earpiece volume has dropped so low I can hardly hear it. It did this randomly. No Siri use prior to it happening. I tried changing languages to reset the springboard and also a hard rest which didn't help. I just wanted to see if there is something I should try before going in for a new phone.

Make sure you remove the transparent plastic screen cover the iPhone ships with prior to making appointment to get replacement.

  • Iphone 4s bluetooth volume problems through Alpine HU

Having trawled through numerous reports of bluetooth problems with the 4S I have not found one which replicates my issue although I could have missed it.
Essentially I think my query boils down to " Does the 3GS output music, via bluetooth at a higher level than the 4S, assuming both using IOS5.0.1" .Because my new iphone 4S is much much quieter than my old 3gs and I want to establish whether this is a software problem or a faulty unit.
For the last couple of years I have been using a 3GS which paired perfectly with my Alpine CDA-9887/Bt400 stereo in the car, handled calls well and when playing music via the bluetooth input ( which it did exceptionally well) it was at the same sound level as the other inputs for a given vol setting, i.e. I could switch from radio, to disc to bluetooth withouth changing the volume.
Having just changed to an iphone 4S I have found that although the unit pairs ok and seems to handle calls well enough (although rather mushy sounding compared to 3GS) it is very quiet when using the ipod function via bluetooth.
Volume and sound quality are very subjective I realise but to give an indication of the problem, the Alpine head unit has a volume scale from 0-39. On all inputs (except with the 4S) a volume of 5 is fine for spoken voice, 12 good for music on the move 21 is very very loud pushing the cars speakers to the limit. These levels are approx the same when playing music through an iphone 3GS and an ipod touch via bluetooth.
By contrast the iphone 4S is inaudible at vol 5, needs 20 to be listenable to on the move and even at vol 39 sounds thin and about as load as a 3GS at vol18  so ful vol not possible from my iphone 4S
The main problem with this is that if you are listening to music from the iphone 4S then switch to the radio without remembering to drastically reduce volume it is likely to result in damage to the speakers and/or your eardrums. The problem is compounded as I use the TomTom app regularly and this exibits the same problem, the volume needs to be very high for instructions and then if I change input to listen to the news....ouch.
I have tried 2 iphone 3GS's and an ipod touch on this Alpine unit and they all work perfectly, being able to maintain the same output for a given HU vol level as the radio etc. I have tried increasing the bluetooth volume on the 4S handset, have tried clean restore to see if there is some obscure problem with my backup all to no avail.
Has anyone upgraded from a 3GS to a 4S and found the music level in a car via bluetooth much quieter, the same or louder and does this sound like a hardware problem.
    thanks.

Funny Apple told me to eat **** and call my car place.

It’s not like we are working with Samsun here. They should have thought it out fixed all the bugs then went ahead. • Brand new iPhone 5s earpiece volume very low while making/receiving calls

I bought an iPhone 5s yesterday, set it up and updated it to iOS 7.0.3 and much to my dismay I tried to make a call and the earpiece volume is extremely low. Is there a simple fix for this or some sort of explanation or should I book an appointment at the apple store and ask for a replacement. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

  • N82 earpiece volume problem

    Hi all,
I got my N82 3 weeks ago and initially the earpiece volume was working fine. By that I meant I was able to hear things ok even when the volume is only halfway up and I'm in a busy public place like a train station.
However I've notice lately that the earpiece volume is very very very low, almost unhearable even when I turned the volume all the way up!
So basically I'm wondering if anyone has came across this issue and how you've dealt with it? It doesn't have to be an N82, any mobile will do, just as long as you are able to get the earpiece volume to work as per normal again...
Hoping to get some response... it's driving me crazy not being able to hear someone properly!!!
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a software update? www.nokia.com/softwareupdate
Have you tried a complete reset?
Hard reset (back up everything you want to keep before trying):
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia logo or shows other signs of life like the language selction screen.
If all of that fails to make it work then it is faulty and you will need to visit a nokia care point/service centre.

  • My iphone 4 earpiece volume is slowly getting quieter.

My iphone 4 earpiece is getting too quiet for me. Hitting the does nothing. I cannot hear some people and have started to need to use speaker. Earpiece is clean. I do not have the protective plastic on the front.

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, and to rule out a software issue, set it up as a new device, explained in this article:

Nope. Can't say that it does. I think I have about 100 charge cycles on it and it still performs like near new. How long have you had your 3GS?

I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

  • I am on my 3rd iPhone 4s since March due to the earpiece volume going bad.

I am on my 3rd iPhone 4s since March due to the earpiece volume going bad. Now the one I have (since early september) is starting to dwindle...am i doing something wrong, or do I really keep getting bad phones?? I am getting frustrated! I never had this issue w/ any other phones before! I have the apple care plan, so they have just given me a new phone each time, but are they just going to continue to do this?

All you can do is take it back.

  • Iphone 1.1.4 earpiece volume is quite

Hi just wondering has anyone experienced a quiet earpiece volume? I have it on full. But i also have the plastic covering on it. Maybe that's it. But not sure.

Well, this really didn't have anything to do with this post, however I will try and answer it. I have a 16GB that I bought on 2/13, and it came with 1.1.3 on it. I've since updated it.
There is an Apple event scheduled for March 6 regarding the SDK, however it really isn't something that will impact the normal iPhone user in the near future. It is about software developers.
Why is it about every few hours you have to ask the same question over and over again regarding the SDK and get the same answer. Also, using all caps on the Internet is like yelling at someone. That really isn't necessary here!

  • Earpiece volume better on newer iPhones?

For those of you who recently purchased a new iPhone (within the last few weeks), how is your earpiece volume? Many iPhone users have complained that the earpiece volume is too low, so I'm curious if this is a hardware issue that has been corrected by Apple.

I went into the Apple Store this evening and noticed that all the iPhones had been replaced since the last time I was there about 2 weeks ago. They were all 8GB. I tried making test calls on about 5 of the display phones and they ALL had significantly better volume than my iPhone.
My phone was just replaced by AppleCare because I was experiencing distortion in the earpiece. The replacement phone they sent me (my current iPhone) has the low volume issue. It's been less than two weeks I received the replacement iPhone... do you think I could go to the Genius Bar and make a case for the the volume difference between my iPhone and the display iPhones, and possibly get another replacement?

  • My iPhone 5 earpiece is not working

my iPhone 5 earpiece is not working.. i can only hear through my speaker or if i plug in my headphones...does anyone else have this problem and can anyone help me??

    Morning MHamilton24,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

    No sound through stereo headset1
Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose iPod > Now Playing, then tap Play.
Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
Try a different song or video.
Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • IPhone Earphone Speaker volume suddenly got very low

    Hi,
A week ago my iPhone Earphone Speaker volume get very low.I have installed to 3.0 and nothing help me out.
I think this is a hardware problem and getting to replace a Earphone Speaker.
Does anyone knows is this software or a hardware problem?
Its works fine over BT or earpiece.
I can only hear at very low volume.
    Thanks,

i just did this with my moms original iPhone. before the update the volume was fine, after it got noticeablly low. i could bearly hear anything. used the sim card eject tool that came with my 3GS and poked at the speaker very lightly and noticed it got higher. i dont get how its related to the 3.0 software update but that fixed the problem for some strange reason?

  • Question regarding early termination and handset earpiece volume

    Hello,
I purchased iphone a week ago from ATT.
If I terminate my contract after 10 months, do I have to return my iphone to ATT even though I pay the early termination fee?
    Another question is this,
when I get a phoe call, the handset earpiece volume is not loud enough to hear in the noisy place.
Is there anyway to fix this problem?
    Thank you.

No, you only have to return it if you cancel within the first 30 days and don't pay the fee.
Is there anyway to fix this problem?
Your volume switches work differently depending on what you are doing. You may get a readout above the "speaker" symbol that appears on the screen telling you what volume is being adjusted.
If you are not using anything, the volume switches adjust the ringer volume.
If you are playing music or video, they adjust the music/video volume.
If your headphones are plugged in, they adjust the headset volume.
If you are actually on a call, they adjust the earpiece volume or speakerphone volume, whichever you are using (without a readout).
If you are on a phone call using bluetooth, they adjust the bluetooth volume.
Dial something like the National Time Signal (303) 499-7111 or your local recdorded weather and adjust the volume during the call.

  • Earpiece volume turn low

without any notice the earpiece volume turn low after normal call and I tried to raise the volume up or down from the side botton and restart the phone but it didn't change anythings for next couple calls (the speaker volume was running normal)and it get back to normal after few calls with no reason, is there anybody have this problem before and know why it happen and by the way my Siri app. also start by itself continously during working on the phone any explaination.

The 3GS is my first iPhone and I have to agree that the volume is quite often much too low for my liking. I have noticed that it's not always, just more often than not. This goes for both the earpiece and the speakerphone. Volume through bluetooth is fine. My hearing is good.
After speaking to a couple of friends who just got the 3GS they all say the same thing, making me think that the volume is where it's supposed to be, but it's just too low for what I'd like it to be. For example, it's fine if I'm in a quite area (volume maxed out), but if there's any sort of background noise it becomes very difficult to hear the other person.
Unfortunately, I don't have any fixes, but if anybody else does, it would be much appreciated here as well!!
