IPHONE 4s GSM & CDMA support

i live in Dubai and I want to buy the new iphone 4s but I need to know 1st since it supports both networks ( GSM and CDMA ( CDMA carriers are Sprint PCS, Verizon and Virgin Mobile) )
I have to be sure of this since I'm traveling to USA next month and it would be a big problem if it doesn't
I got confused when I knew that iphone 4s that has been released in UAE is unlocked and Apple it self made a statement on it's web site that all unlocked iphone 4s will only work with GSM networks
also the network carriers here are GSM (Du & Etisalat) and there tech support is very poor i can't get that info from them
and if it does support both networks how I can be sure of it. like doing a test or maybe from the model number since the model number for iphone 4s is A1387 so maybe they provide another model number for the GSM model only???
plz anyone can help???
sameh

Sprint uses primarily CDMA, though the iPhone 4S has GSM capability. It's locked, but Sprint can unlock it for use with GSM carriers in other countries.
Regards.

  • IPhone 4S GSM/CDMA?

I heard unlocked iPhone 4s supports dual GSM/CDMA supported.
Then why does Apple website says iPhone 4s can only support GSM?

If you read further on the Apple website, you'll see that unlocked phones are GSM unlocked only.  CDMA phones are locked to their carrier.  The GSM portion CAN be unlocked for international roaming.

  • HT3939 if I purchased iPhone 5 GSM A1429, then I tried to use CDMA SIM card inside the same phone, does it'll work and provide me signals ???

    Hi All,
Regarding iPhone 5, at the latest model, if I bought an unlocked one from UK Apple Store,  iPhone 5 GSM   A1429, then I tried to use CDMA SIM card inside the same phone, does it'll work and provide me signals or not. ??
    Thanks for your answering.

The answer is complicated. None of the major carriers offer PAYG service in the US, but if you buy a contract-free phone for full price you can get a plan that can be canceled at any time from any of the major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile). There are smaller resellers that offer PAYG service (StraightTalk, for example), but they are hard to deal with.
The most liberal is the GSM carrier T-Mobile. They have "unbundled" the phone from the service, so if you bring your own phone or pay full price for a phone the monthly cost will be lower.
The other 3 will charge you the same monthly cost whether you pay full price for the phone or get a subsidized phone.
Verizon iPhone 5 series phones are unlocked out of the box for international use (thanks to a condition the FCC imposed on Verizon when they were allowed to buy a substantial chunk of spectrum). They are the only phones sold in the US that will work on LTE bands in the UK and Europe.
Sprint is not a good choice, because they give you a hard time if you want to unlock your phone.
AT&T phones are locked, but they will unlock the phone if you pay full price or pay off your early termination fee. However, they will only work on GSM in the UK, not on LTE (4G).

  • IPhone 5 - GSM to CDMA?

I'm on Verizon, but I'm stuck with a GSM iPhone 5. I was on vacation when a relative from overseas thought my current phone looked shabby, and bought the 5 for me.. Unfortunately, the IMEI can't be recognized by Verizon, as it is most likely a GSM phone.
Is there anything I, Apple, or Verizon can do to switch the phone from GSM to CDMA? I realize other carriers such as AT&T can accept GSM phones, but I don't care to switch carriers because of a phone someone gave me as a gift.
Just to clarify--not all iPhone 5's are made the same, right? There is a physical internal difference between Verizon-approved iPhones, and GSM iPhones? It's not like I could get my tech-genius cousin to tinker around and get it to work, I'd actually need to change some physical network receptor in the phone?
Is there anything to be done other than switching carriers or selling it on Craigslist? Like I said, it was purchased abroad through am authorized reseller, so on don't think any Apple stores could help me.. I basically have a $600 brick sitting in my room lol.

You already posted your answer, sell it on Craigslist use that money towards a new Verizon iPhone. You can make a Genius Bar appointment at the Apple Store or call AppleCare and ask to be transferred to Customer Service, but the answer will still probably be no.

  • Lte bands supported by iPhone 6 GSM from USA

    Hello all,
I live in Norway and my brother goes to school in USA.
I was planning to get him to buy me an iPhone 6 but i worry if the USA GSM iPhone 6 support the LTE bands in Norway.
I know this was an issue with iPhone 5 and 5S.
In Norway we, for the most part, use band 3, 7 and 20.
So my question is does the iPhone 6 GSM sold in USA support LTE bands 3, 7 and/or 20?

The going rate at applestore in Norway (with todays exchange rate) for the base 6 with 64GB is $1043 so there is a substancial amount to be saved, close to $300.
Yes, I know. We had an exchange student from Rena Norway last. She bought an iPhone 5s before she left because of the substantial cost difference. LTE was not an issue as she was mostly using WIFI on her phone.
I am traveling to Norway during December of this year. It will be my second trip having visited Oslo and Rena on my last trip. I was there during Norway's independence celebration. Had front row seats at the palace in Oslo for the parade. Really enjoyed the clothing. Also experienced Kippers and three different kinds of Caviar. For one of the meals I was greeted with reindeer and it was really quite good.
When I travel to Europe I use my iPhone 5 and just get a sim when I arrive. Never had a problem. No LTE data but for my needs the slower 3G worked fine.

  • Is it possible to replace an iphone 5 A1429 CDMA model in the UK?

I bought my iphone 5 (A1429 CDMA) in the NYC apple store last November. As expected, I've managed to break my screen in under a year of having the phone.
I live in Dubai and the cheapest screen replacement cost i found was around $200, so I thought I may as well replace the whole phone (at the out of warranty price of $229 / 180 pounds in the uk) as I am going to the UK in September.
I understand that the UK apple store only carries the A1429 GSM model, which is fine for me as this model works in Dubai too.
My question is will they replace it for me??

    As already provided:
No. You will have to physically return this phone to the US for all warranty/support issues. You can mail it to a friend/relative in the US, & they can take it to an Apple store for you, but you can't mail it to Apple.
Some Apple stores, in the US, have started replacing iPhone 5 screens, for I believe US $149.

  • FaceTime no longer wotking on my iPhone 4 (GSM) iOS 6.1.4

    Hello everyone,
My last successful FaceTime call was made on August 31, 2013.
When I tried to answer / initiate a FaceTime call to a family member over the weekend, I discovered that FT would attempt to connect, but fail to complete.
I have since discovered that several thousand people are having this same problem with iPhone 4 -- there is a discussion group about this problem in the apple "using iPhone" forum at this time, and that it may have something to do with the way Apple has changed the way in which FaceTime traffic is handled.
I have a question -- many folks have tried an "erase all content and settings" followed by a "setup device as a new phone" to restore FaceTime functionality,
It seems that simply updating from iOS 6 to iOS 7 by itself doesn't solve this problem, and that any attempt to restore   backup simply installs the problem once again -- it appears to only be solved via the method that I mentioned.
I have a question, if I attempt to do this on my iPhone (without iTunes, since I can only utilize iTunes 10.6.3 on my Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.5.8), will this corrupt any information on my SIM card?
Has anyone else encountered this problem with FaceTime on their iPhone 4 (GSM) and attempted this solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5209 might help you.  An iPhone 4 can airplay content from apps that support airplay and iTunes but it cannot mirror.  If your game does not have airplay in the app you cannot mirror it to the apple TV so I don't know if you can play just the music.  You should have no problem playing your iTunes over airplay though.

How can i buy an iphone 5 of cdma and can i take d store near in my city jakarta indonesia

According to this list, iPhone 5 CDMA versions are only available in the U.S., Japan, and Puerto Rico. The CDMA phone is Model A1429.
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
Even if you get an unlocked A1429, it may not work with Indonesia's CDMA network, although it looks like it should work since the iPhone 5 CDMA model supports both CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B. You may need to take it to your service provider to set it up though.

  • Need help with using Factory Unlocked iPhone 4 (GSM) in US

Hi all I have an factory unlocked iPhone 4 (GSM) which is bought overseas. I will come to the US soon but I don't know how can I continue using with the US carriers.
    Any solution?

If it is truly unlocked, just sign up for a plan with AT&T when you get to the US and insert the MicroSIM. AT&T will not permit pre-paid plans on iPhones. T-Mobile will, but they are not a supported carrier and you will not get 3G data speeds, only Edge. Other features may not work correctly such as MMS messaging, FaceTime, etc.

  • I would like to know if iphone 5 GSM model A1429 unlocked is available in stores in the US in order to buy and use in Europe

I would like to know if iphone 5 GSM model A1429 is unlocked and is available in stores in the US in order to buy and use in Europe. Please let me know.
    Thanks

Not officially for sale in the US, at the present time, although Apple's flagship store on 5th Ave, in New York City, gets supplies from time-to-time. However, no GSM US model iPhone 5 will support LTE anywhere other than North America. It will not support LTE in Europe. If you want LTE support in Europe, you need to purchase your phone in Europe.

If you carefully follow all of the instructions in this tip and none of them restore WiFi then your radio chip has failed and you need to get the phone replaced by Apple.
