Hello to all,
Unfortunatelly I have to be very aggressive on this post. I am really dissapointed from the Apple as a company and for its services.
I have bought an Iphone 4s 64GB from an official Apple store in USA. When I purchased the phone I asked for an unlocked one and since I said that it is common sense that I am going to use outside USA also. I said to the apple guy there that I am going to use it in Greece and he said that definitelly won't be any problem with the phone. I used the phone for 2 months as long as I stayed there and then I came back in Greece and here is where the problems started.
When I put the other sim card in the phone it could not read it and I did the update of the software and the error -1 came up. Unfortunatelly I found out what the error was. After many phone calls in apple stores in US and Greece I ended up that my Iphone has to be sent in US so as to be replaced.
My question is how is it possible a worldwide collosieum company as Apple being unable to replace or repair a device that they official sell on their stores???When I bought the phone the apple guy shouldn't inform me about the limitations of the quarrantee?And what kind of limitations are these?They should protect their customers and inform about these limitations which in my point of view are stupid, at least.It is totally unacceptable for Apple being humilitated like this. My Iphone to be replaced needs to be sent in US to a relative or a friend of mine who leaves there,since they don't accept it straight to one of their stores, and him/her has to get it to the apple store and once it is repaired or replaced he/she has to get it from the store and send it back to me. Tired to read the process?Even more tyring to do all these and the worse is that I don't have anyone leaving there.I have used the phone for 2 months and have it sitting in the box for 3 months just looking at it.It would be more simple to get the phone to an apple store here in Greece replace it with a new one and leave the apple stores do their jobs and arrangements. The point is the customer to be pleased and not leave him cut his throat and try to find a solution on the problem that Apple caused to the customer. If you want to be named a good company you have to provide good service to your customers on every spot around the world that you sell your products. As cars for example, you buy an US car you don't need to send it to US to repair it.If you can't repair what you sell lock your products so as to work only in the area you sell them and they can be repaired,US, EU or wherever.Unfortunatelly this post stays on the Apple customers and not being read from higher "heads" in Apple so as to look at their disabilities and problems and try to become better.And there is no any way to try to send them your problems.

I didn't name personally anyone here and that wasn't my willing to. I just said some of my complaints about Apple. And yes I know that I need to send my phone to Apple for repair or replacement. As you said about the terms you should also read what I wrote. And you are the one that look foolish by copying and pasting the same mail to other people having problems and call  them names. I am Apple user to and my damaged phone is not the only Apple device I have and I am more than pleased with these devices. But since a problem occured and noone can help me I should post my comment. I don't want to create any blog against Apple but as there is good critisism, there is the bad too, either some people like it or not, like you.And if you don't aggree with something just pass by it, give your opinion or solution as you did on my problem and thank you for that but don't call other with names. I don't know you and you don't know me.

    I had quite a bit of trouble upgrading iTunes from 10.1x to 10.5. I had to remove ALL Apple products/files/registry entries. After I did this, I ran the installer file (64bit one) directly from the iTunes site. It looked as of everything installed EXCEPT one program installed partially then rolled back the installation of that particular program. The rest of iTunes 10.5 installed with no problems. When I tried to connect my iPhone 3Gs, I received the following error:
    I looked in my control panel and noticed Apple Mobile Device Support is missing now. I assume this the the application that was 'rolled back'. I followed the instructions in the error listed above and the exact same thing happens again.  Here is a bit of background on what I have:

    This is what I did so far:
    Backup up my iPhone before all this started (2 days ago)
    Imaged my drive just in case -ALWAYS have backups
    Uninstalled ALL Apple products from my PC via the Windows Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs
    Cleaned the Registry of all Apple products that I could regognize
    Deleted ALL Apple folders from drive
    Checked to see if any Apple service was running (none were left)
    Rebooted my PC
    Scanned my entire HDD and Registry for all traces of Apple products (none found)
    Went to the official iTunes 10.5 site and 'ran' the installed directly from there.
    All went well till the one program 'rolled back' once again.
    Connected my iPhone and the error listed above remains.
    Ran Apple Updater and found that Safari and QuickTime
    Installed Safari and QuickTime on a chance that it may help fix or repair something that I may have missed
    Cursed/Yelled/Screamed/Cried/Took a chill pill and wrote this plea for help
    This may be a bit more info than most want to see, but on the chance the Apple Support personnel actually look at this post, I want them to see the full details. I work in the IT field, so complex answers are ok to post. I am willing to try just about anything at this point. I appreciate any replies and will give more details as requested that involve this issue.

    This is an update to my original post...
    I was able to install iTune 10.5 finally, but Apple Mobile Device Support will still not install (update actually). I restored my PC to an earlier state (before I first tried to install 10.5 the first time) and now my older version will not start since my iTunes library has been upgraded to the 10.5 format. I am really stuck here. I really want to get me music back since I have nearly 30 Gbs of music and movies I have burned from CDs. That does not even include my iTunes online purchases that I can easily revover/re-download.

    Error -1 indicated a hardware failure.  You can try restoring a couple more times, but it probably won't work.  You'll need to bring your phone to Apple.

I tried plugging it into my macbook AND my windows desktop to see if I could restore it using either one, but it says that error (9) is occurring.     Fixing the hardware is not something you, the user, can do. It would have to be done by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
    However, note that you likely do NOT have a hardware issue. See Resolve iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support.
    Check your security software
    Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
    Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.

  • My iMac 8.1 was slowing down and had permissions problems. I backed everything up, and then re-installed. Now all I get is a black screen. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: HDD-1336. Help!

    My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

    No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.

    About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

    One thing that might help.
    1. open itunes preferences from the edit menu and click on the devices tab.
    2. check the box to disable syncing for iphones connected to itunes and click ok.
    3. Then click the button to reset sync history.
    4. Now click ok to close the preferences window.
    5. connect the iphone to itunes and go to the info tab.
    6. scroll to the bottom of the info page and check the box to replace the ical data on the iphone.
    7. then click apply on the bottom right of itunes.
    This will overwrite any events on the iphone, including any events that has become corrupted.

  • Is a Disk Utility "fatal hardware Error" Always fatal?

    I'm traveling for the next four weeks and have my lap top with me to do work.
    Last night I was working fine on my computer when all of a sudden Photoshop wouldn't open files right. I quite out of Photoshop (slow)
    Then tried to quit out of everything else (slow) and finally shut down holding the Power button down. I waited a few minutes and tried to reboot.
    It was REALLY slow starting back up. (about 15 to 20 minutes). I held the Power key down to turn it off and left it overnight hoping it would figure itself out by morning.
    This am the same start up problem happened. I finally got it opened and manuvered to Disk Utility.
    IT GAVE ME THIS MESSAGE
    This drive has reported a Fatal Hardware Error to Disk utility.
    If the drive has not failed completely, Back up as much as you can and
    then replace it with a working drive.
    HERE IS WHAT I DID EARLIER IN THE EVENING THAT I THINK MADE IT WACKY.
    I hadn't installed SUITCASE X1 yet and was using the program Font Book that comes with the computer. It wasn't satifactory so I went ahead and installed Suitcase X1.
    FONT BOOK kept showing a ton of open faces.
    I carefully (or so I thought) went through Font Books "All fonts" window and got rid of fonts that I didn't see in the system fonts folder. (I think this is where I really may have screwed up)
    FYI I am a graphic designer and use many fonts.
    I store all the design fonts in a folder in USERS > SHARED> FONTS
    I directed SUITCASE to "Manage system fonts"
    Every thing was working fine for a few hours.
    I was working in QUARK 6 easily and listening to a Podcast. No problems.
    When I went to open PHOTOSHOP, it (Photoshop) started running very slow.
    and all the things I mentioned above started to happen.
    I have the OS10.4 install disk with me so I tried to boot from it.
    (I thought maybe it had a utility on it to help fix things or maybe I could copy any important fonts that I accidently trased
    (btw do you hold down OPTION C to boot from a CD or APPLE C?
    I tried them all)
    I couldn't get it to boot from the CD
    Have I really wrecked my computer?
    Do we think it's a font problem.
    Can I fix it. I'm at the beach in NC and there's no techys around!!!!
    I am currently typing this email on the laptop so it's not completely dead.
    Just super slow and threatening to die.
    What should I do??!!!

    It's either OPTION or C. Unfortunately, the Install CD doesn't give you much access to file operations (no Finder) as Mac OS 9 and earlier did.
    If you could start it in Target Disk Mode and mount the drive on another Mac, or boot it from an external drive with a Mac OS X installation on it you could try to recover files that aren't already backed up.

    If you're trying to make calls from a mac, then you should make sure to enable FaceTime calls from your AppleID (email address) on both the mac and the iPhone.  Don't uncheck your phone number, either.  FaceTIme should be enabled on both devices with both your phone number and your AppleID.
    For some reason, this is what had to be done for me to be able to make phone calls from my mac without receiving this message on my iPhone.  I know it isn't ideal because we shouldn't have to enable FaceTime calls via AppleID, especially if we won't be using it with our AppleID, but this is what worked for me.  Once you enable FaceTime calling from your AppleID on both the iPhone and your mac (while also keeping the calling enabled via your phone number), then try to turn on iPhone cellular calling on your iPhone.  It should work, and then you can try to make a cellular call on your mac.
    Some people may think that this isn't a fix because they might think I am talking about FaceTime audio calls.  But I'm not.  Try this and report back if you can.

    I would like to burn a new project to a DVD. Encore is giving me the following message over and over: "Encore was unable to complete the operation because of a hardware error (Sense Code 23A00). Contact the hardware manufacturer.
    Please advise me what the best next step is I can take...
    My version of Encore (CS3) sits on a Windows XP SP2 machine that is newly installed (last week) and still squeaky clean. I don't know who the manufacturer of the DVD-drive is. It worked fine before, and it works fine with other DVD0-burning software now (I know that doesn't mean a lot).
    I use Imation DVD+RW discs. Before my clean install I had CS2 and it worked fine with these DVD's.
    I have read the "Things and Software to avoid when authoring for DVD-V" document. None of the points there really seemed to matter to me (I don't have any of the identified problems, and use Nero software, which it does not reference). One point that does raise some questions is #14: "Disable the Windows XP packet writing utility": when I click on properties for the DVD-drive there is no Recording tab. Is that an indication of something that might be wrong? I have also searched these forums and read all the postings I could find on similar sounding messages.
    It now seems I have three options. Which would you advise?
    1. I can buy DVD's of another brandname, or not +RW. Interestingly enough, when I burn a DVD it goes through the process of acquiring all the data and checking transcoding settings, and then quits as soon as it really needs to start writing.
    2. I can buy and install another DVD-burner. What brand would you advise?
    3. I can tell Encore to create a DVD image ad then use Imgburn to burn said image to a DVD. Not a fan of this approach, I don't want to buy another program.
    I can go any of these three roads. Perhaps there is a 4th option I have not thought of? I am kind of hoping someone will see my message and know exactly what the problem is... #1 is of course the easiest and cheapest option. Problem is none of the solutions guarantee success...

    5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, then reboot to remove it.
    If your installation of Nero didn't include its packet writing part then this doesn't apply obviously.

    Could possibly be an indication that the drive isn't properly recognized by Windows. While you are in the Properties screen, what does it display as name for the drive?

    It's likely that your backup is corrupt. Try deleting the backup, then right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "back up". To delete go to iTunes Preferences, Devices tab. Highlight and delete the most recent backup. Note that sometimes deleting this way leaves some garbage around that can still interfere with a new backup, so you should verify that the backup folder is empty.
