IPhone 4S iCloud restore hangs/will not finish

I am replacing an iPhone 4S with another 4S by restoring from an iCloud backup. I believe the restore was interrupted when I left home and the phone was no longer connected to Wi-Fi, but the restore should have resumed when I returned home and connected the phone to Wi-Fi and power. The restore appears complete (i.e.; all apps & photos are there, all accounts like email are working fine), but in the phone's iCloud settings it says it cannot back up because a restore is in progress.
Is there a way to tell what is left to restore?
Is there any harm in just stopping the restore process?

Update: I was able to locate the data that still needed to be restored. There were several music tracks associated with another AppleID, and I did not have the password when prompted at the beginning of the restore. I found the tracks via the iTunes Store app on the phone, under "downloads." I was able to resume downloads by providing the missing password, and after that the restore was complete.

I tried to put the phone in restore mode, but it is not responding to any of the buttons, and doesn't show anything on the screen. It had 70% battery when I started the restore so i know it still has charge. What can i do?

Did you try DFU Mode?

-Plug your phone into the computer and open iTunes
-Hold down Power for 3 sec.
-Continue holding Power and press/hold down Home for 10 sec.
-Release Power and continue holding Home for another 8-10 sec.
ITunes will detect your phone is in DFU Mode and ask you to restore.
***FYI, In DFU Mode, your screen will be black. It is not the same as the Restore Image (iTunes w/ plug).

ITunes will not finish the restoring process for my iPhone 4s

So I have been trying to restore my iPhone 4s but iTunes will not finish the process. I have the latest versions in both my phone, iTunes and windows updates... I have restarted the iPhone, the comoputer and iTunes... I'm at a lost on what to do. The phone screen has the plug going toward the iTunes icon but when I do connect it to iTunes it does not restore. iTunes goes through the motions until it gets to "preparing iPHone to restore" after that it just kind of stays there for about half an hour and then it shoot out an error 2003 saying the iTunes couldnt' finish the process... I have all of my firewalls off too... Any suggestions?

I'd possibly say to check USB connections. Maybe another cable.
All else fails, you might try to restore on another computer.

I get as far as what appears to be restoring my phone then when the software has downloaded, iTunes insists on my phone accepting it's access. I had carried out this action two weeks ago when I had the same issue on my phone and managed to restore it successfully, but it isn't happening now. I have updated iTunes to the latest version since the last time, and also my iPhone to the latest version. I have had endless trouble with this phone so having gone through all the steps suggested in various forums it is clear that it is an issue with the phone, not helped by the recent iOS and iTunes updates with stricter security.

I updated to iOS 8 on iPhone 5s and now iMessage will not verify my email. It has said "Verifyng" since yesterday, but has not sent a verification email. I checked my iCloud settings for that email address and it shows "pending".

In my iCloud settings under Contact Information for that email address and it shows "pending". When I select "Resend Verification Email" I get "Cannot Connect to iCloud".

Try closing the Camera app completely and see if then works when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Camera 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

It was telling you that you needed Mac OS 10.6.8 or later, not itunes 10.6.8
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:

Put the device in DFU mode and restore.
When he gets back to the computer that he normally syncs with, he can restore from his backup. Everything since that last backup will be lost.
Start apologizing now... keep it up for a few months to several years.
Then hopefully you will learn to leave other peoples stuff alone.

Nevermind, tried a different cable and it started working. There is no visible signed of damage on the cable and very odd timing on when it failed.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

If it's stuck on the progress bar then you could try a soft-reset and see if that gets it to complete : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should reappear and it will hopefully reboot fully.
If not then try recovery mode and restore to your backup : If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Ipad will not finish sync itunes 11.1.3

I have iOs 7.0.4 and Itunes 11.1,3,8 and the sync will not finish - it gets hung up on the " waiting for items to copy" function and will not seem to finish. Any suggestions are welcome. Apple really needs to get a handle on this problem, it seems to be chronic with this version of iTunes.

And yet many are having no problem at all.
If you are syncing wireless, try synching connected with cable, or visa versa.
If iCloud is set up properly it does not create conflict unless given conflicting instructions. The content in iCloud depends on your Apple ID.   You must use one as iCloud can only sync to one account at a time.   If you have books purchased on more than one ID, you must authorize them on your iTunes accounts get them to sync.
Check the settings in iTunes on the computer.   Turn off auto sync in preferences.   Highlight the device and bring up summary page.   Go through each page and make sure boxes are checked for any content you want added.
Apply
Sync.
IBooks have been a pain.   Only solution I found was to delete all books, then select and sync books back on to the device.
If you find significant bugs in operation.
First try.....reset all settings
If that fails to help....Backup to computer (not the cloud)   Restore to factory.   Restore from backup

Try restoring it using Recovery Mode.

the iCloud Control Panel will not install on my WIN 7 32-bit PC. I receive the error message,
"There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program run as part of the install did not finish as expected. Contact your local support personnel or package vendor."
When the panel finished being "backed off" my PC, I also received the following message,
"iCloud for Windows Installer Error.
The installer encountered errors before iCloud for Windows could be configured.
Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.
Click FINISH to exit the installer."
Each time I tried to download and install the Control Panel, these messages would appear.
The Genius Bar was unable to help me and referred me to the ICloud Support Line. They were unable to help me.
I refuse to believe that Apple is unable to solve this issue with their own software, but if there is anyone in this august community that can help me, I would be forever grateful,
