IPhone 4s / iOS 7.1 upgrade / Trust loop / No iTunes

iPhone 4 I just upgraded to iOS7.1. Has been working for years with a Windows XP computer without iTunes installed ever.  I copy my pictures from my phone to my computer weekly.
Since this upgrade: If I plug the iPhone into the USB port as I have always done, I am stuck in a Trust this computer loop.  It seems every 30 seconds or so the Trust/DontTrust this computer question pops up.  If I hit trust, it pops back up in another 30 seconds or so.
Not sure what to do but would appreciate any help with this.

I've got the same problem on my 4S.   Tried uninstalling all Apple software on PC, tried different Ports, cables, and different PC running XP.   Same error.  Trust this Computer message comes up over and over but yet you never can open the directories to view them.

This is good. Now you can use iTunes to Update or Restore your iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1. iTunes has to download it at some point, so now it is there which is good. If you want, you can always delete it, but this is not necessary.

  • IPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.1) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.5 on Mac OSX Mavericks. Frustration Station.

iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.1) not recognized by iTunes 11.1.5 on Mac OSX Mavericks. Have tried all of the recommendations on the apple support site, I am running all current up to date versions of iTunes(11.1.5), Mac OSX(Mavericks), AND iOS 7.1.1 on my iPhone 4 and nothing has worked. Also tried doing some recommendation of deleting some ".plist" files in the preferences as I had seen on this support forum and my iPhone is still not recognized in iTunes at all. I plug my iPhone into my MacBook Pro and it makes the sound like it's connected and charging, but when I go "devices" in iTunes, it is all greyed out. I have had this iPhone since May 2011 and have synced it to this computer numerous times since then, with the last time being before I updated to Mavericks which was sometime in April. Not sure where to go from here, I've tried to delete iTunes and re-install, but when I try to drag the iTunes icon from "applcations", the system tells me I cannot do so as it is required by OSX. So, what gives?

durrrrr. nevermind. re-installed itunes and it looks good for now.

  • Synching iPad, iPhone after iOS 6.0 upgrade

I've been having problems synching my iPhone and iPad via wifi with my Macbook since I upgraded to iOS 6. If I go to "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" under Settings-->General on either the iPhone or the iPad, it can't find my Macbook, even though the Macbook is on the network and iTunes is open. If I look in iTunes for the iPad or iPhone, they don't show up on the left as they have before. How can I do a Wi-Fi sync? Or is this a known issue with the new iTunes or iOS upgrade? Thanks.

I posted a solution to this in another thread.  The issue is likely one of two things.  Either one of the mp3's you have specified for an album or slide show has an "&" in the path to it (this was my issue), or one of your keywords in a photo or album has a null character at the end of it.  The issue is most likely an "&".  Apple is aware of the issue.  In my case, a slideshow I created in 2008 had a song with an "&" in the title.  No prior updates have had an issue with this, but this one did.  I removed that song from the playlist of the slideshow and the problem was resolved.
If it is too difficult for you to go through the slideshows and albums to look for a song like this, you can get the free trial of "iPhoto Library Manager."  That tool will try and load your library and like iTunes it will have an issue.  The difference is that this utility will tell you what line of the "albums.xml" file has a problem.  There are thousands of lines, so this is a big help.  You can then right-click on your iPhoto Library file and select "show package contents."  Open up the "albums.xml" file in a text editor, preferably one that shows line numbers (I used Text Wrangler) and on the specified line number you'll find a reference to the problem file.  If you look above this, you'll see what album or slideshow is being referenced.  Deleting this information from the "albums.xml" file will NOT fix the problem. You must go into iPhoto and remove the "bad" mp3 from the album or slideshow.  Once you do this, exit iPhoto and run "iPhoto Library Manager" again.  If all is well, it will show your albums and thereafter, iTunes and other apps will too.  If not, the utility may show you yet ANOTHER line in "albums.xml" that has an issue.  Repeat this procedure until no more errors are found by this utility and you'll find iTunes shows everything like it did before.
    Hope this helps!

  • TS5407 How can I get my Win 8.1 PC to detect my iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.2) and connect to iTunes (12.0.1.26)?

I recently upgraded my Win 8 PC to Win 8.1 and my iTunes to the new 12.0.1.26 and now my iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.2) does not connect to iTunes. I can see all my backups, apps and music etc from previous use of iTunes. Each time i plug my iPhone into my PC I get a prompt to "Trust this Computer" which I do each time accept but still no connection.
How can I get it to connect to my new iTunes version?

    Hi there JSJF,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below if your device isn't recognized in iTunes.

  • IPhone 3GS/IOS 6.1.6/Yosemite 10.10/iTunes 12.0.1.26 will not update or install apps

I have an iPhone 3GS/IOS 6.1.6/iMac Yosemite 10.10/iTunes 12.0.1.26. I have always synced it with my 27 inch iMac with no problems.
I recently attempted to install the apps "The Economist Expresso" and "Disconnect."
I do NOT have (and have never had installed) the Wall Street Journal app.
I do have a 4 digit passcode set.
I do have Apples 2-factor authentication enabled.
When downloaded by iTunes they show up in an iPhone window and are labeled "will install".
    I then click sync.
The sync process begins and they "immediately" disappear from the iPhone windows and revert back to "install" in the list of apps.
They have not installed and no error or any other message of any kind has been displayed.
I suspect that this all began happening when I enabled the two factor authentication -- the iPhone is the primary location to receive the authorization code, and it has worked. It may also have begun happening when I upgraded to  Yosemite. I simply noticed that when syncing my iPhone, which I tend to do weekly by USB cable, not WiFi or iCloud; that the amount of free space simply kept growing.
Today, I finally gave in and reset the iPhone, and then restored from a backup.
Now I find that apps which I had been using daily, such as AP Mobile, were not restored, but also play this -- will install, then vanish -- game.
This is clearly something which Apple has done to attempt to force me to purchase a new iPhone 6, but until now I have had no problem with my 3GS for what I use it for. This total lack of error messages will cause me to replace my 3GS with a non-Apple product as there is clearly no reason to stick with Apple.
And yes, for me COST is a very big deal.

  • IPhone 4 iOS 4.1 upgrade causing app crashes

So I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 a couple days ago. Since the upgrade I have noticed several apps suddenly close for no reason. I'll be browsing in an app, click a button and all of a sudden I'm at my phone's home screen with no explanation of why the app closed. Apps that are programed for multitasking remember where I was when I relaunch, so that helps.
Apps that I've taken note of as being "infected" are:
    · The Default Mail Client
    · Safari Web Browser
    · Cars.com
    · Engadget
    · Joystick
    · The Weather Channel
    · Cnet
    · Facebook
There may have been others, but I don't remember. It's getting frustrating because the phone just goes to the home screen.
I've reset settings, I've reset the phone. I'm not sure what else I can do and it seems like it's something in the iOS not the apps.
Anybody else experiencing this particular problem?

    kolobear wrote:
I don't want to do a restore. It's a pain to have to reorganize my folders and install all of my apps. It could take a couple hours to get everything back to the way I want it.
Is that time worth solving the issue of apps crashing? If it were happening to me, I would think so.
I will debate doing a restore from backup, but if I don't see an immediate need to restore, then I will deal with the issues until update 4.2 is released for iPhone.
It doesn't hurt to try doing a restore from backup. Takes no more than 30 minutes in most cases and everything will be just as it was, and perhaps without the crashing problem. You won't know if you don't try it, and this option has a very low risk of creating any further problems. Waiting around another 2 months for another update that may or may not fix your problem seems silly.
I don't want to mark this as "answered" yet. There is something wrong here with the release or in how itunes and my iphone handled the upgrade.
There's nothing "wrong" with the release, just how your phone handled the update. Problems sometimes do occur during software updates, and wiping the phone and doing a fresh restore will almost always cure a majority of problems. Had you called Apple or gone to a Genius Bar with this problem, I'll guarantee you that a restore would be #2 on their list of suggestions.
It is possible that some of the apps were experiencing problems. I received updates for about 5 apps this week. Since I'm new to iphone, I'm not sure the frequency that devs push out updates. The crashes are random and I don't always think to make a mental note of what was happening when the crash happened.
That depends on the Dev. Some of my apps are updated regularly. Others have been neglected for a year or more.
In the mean time, should you choose not to do a restore, all I can suggest is to reboot your phone often, keep an eye on the multitasking and keep the number of background apps to a minimum and to try deleting the offending apps from the phone and re-downloading them.
    Good luck.

  • Can't get anything on to my iPhone 5 because I cannot upgrade to the new iTunes because I don't have a Mac 10.5.8. Is there anything I can do or am I out of luck?

I just recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5. I went to plug it in to iTunes to get everything back on to my new phone and it says it cannot do anything until I update to the latest version of iTunes. But, when I go to upgrade my iTunes it says I can't because my mac is a 10.5.8 version and the new iTunes is only avalible for a mac 11.0.3 version. Is there anything I can do or am I simply out of luck?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have to upgrade Mac OS X. First, open  > About this Mac, and tell me what processor you have. If it's a Intel Core Solo, Duo or 2 Duo, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
First, buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install 10.6.8. Finally, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent iTunes.
If you want to install iTunes 10.7, download it from this page > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

  • Updated iPhone to iOS 7, now can't sync to itunes

I removed most of the music from my iPhone 4s to free up space for the iOS 7 update. Now my old PC, which doesn't have an Internet connection but contains my entire iTunes library, won't recognize my iPhone. It says I must have newer version of iTunes, but without Internet access, I CAN'T update iTunes. Any ideas how I can get my music from my old version of iTunes to my updated iPhone?

  • IPhone 4 ios update times out when downloading in iTunes and won't update

I bought a new iPhone recently and sync'd it with my iTunes. Everything worked like a dream but for some reason, my iTunes has never successfully downloaded the latest ios updates and therefore haven't been able to update my iPhone4. I keep getting to the end of the download where I think it's going to process the update onto the device and instead I get an error message saying that my iTunes network connection has timed out?! Its definitely connected to the internet. Error 3259.
Does anyone else have the same problem and know the fix to this?

This question is asked and answered over and over and over and over and over.......
Use the search box at the top of the page and type in "connection timed out".  You'll find the answer to your question.

  • Not all of my iPhone 3GS iOS 6.0 apps will sync to iTunes

    Hi There,
I apologise if this is a repeat, I tried searching on google and in here before posting.
In expansion to the subject, I recently had to wipe my PC and have been rebuilding my iTunes playlists, etc. I have also tried to sync my phone. This would download my movies and apps, etc to the PC. Unfortunately, one of my favourite apps is not syncing from my phone to iTunes even when I right-click -> Transfer purchases. I tried dragging and dropping, copying and pasting and no go.
It seems like a simple problem but the funny thing is, it copied most if not all of my other apps perfectly fine when I first plugged it in. Now it wants me to apply new settings to my phone and then tells me this app will be deleted, Continue? Heck NO!
I would be ever so grateful if any of you have a good idea besides jailbreaking my phone.
    Thanks
    Mike

Hi, I disabled the antivirus and the firewall. Same result
I even deleted the backup folder inside C:\Users\...\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to eliminate any corruption in the old backup files.
Nothing changed: Session either times out or i get the same error message: itunes could not back up iphone because iphone disconnected. It always happens during step 3 out of 4 which is "transfering purchased apps from iphone to PC" and comes after step 2 which is backup.
My iphone 5 is not jailbroken, and is a factory unlocked phone.
    Any other suggestion?
    Pls help

  • [iPhone 4 - iOS 7.0.3] Two-Step Verification: iTunes Purchase Problem (Identity Verification)

I have set up two-step verification successfully, and due to not having made purchases on my phone since the iOS 7 update, it asked to verify my identity when I tried to purchase an app, as it usually does for the first time.
I've heard that T-S V users go to a 'Verify Screen' or something of the sort at this point, choose way of getting the code, get it, and type it in.
When I click on the warning to verify my account, it takes me to the Manage my Apple ID page on Safari, and logging in/entering cod there does nothing to purchase the app.
I've tried signing in and out to no avail, as well as different Wi-Fi signals.
I can download paid apps on the computer, but it is clumsy and takes excess time.
    Any help?

Generally, when going out of the country and using a foreign SIM, carrier files can be changed. Go to Settings>General>About>and look at Carrier? What does it say? You may have to perform a restore. You can try a restore from a backup, that would reinstall the iOS, and would provide the latest AT&T carrier file as well. See if this will fix the problem.
