Iphone 4s - iOS 7 update issues

I updated my itunes and did a manual backup before I updated to iOS 7.
Result :
1) Iphone can't sync to itunes (sync fail to start)
2) Alarm app closes to dashboard when trying to change alarm tone.
3) Itunes, Podcasts and all music apps that access my music/videos etc opens but shows up blank before closing back to dashboard. Itunes always opens up a second time after the first closing to only show blank screen and then closing to dashboard.
4) Can't restore from the back up that I did before updating to ios 7 (it says my back up has failed)
5) Spotlight does not work and nothing happens even when i enter an app's full name.
6) Going to Settings > General > About  --- does not finish calculating space taken by songs/videos/photos and just closes back to desktop
Side note : I updated my ipad2 to ios 7 with none of the problems mentioned above.
Very annoyed and would appreciate any advice or suggestions.
I intend to try and restore from recovery mode later tonight.

I restored the phone as new (reset content and settings) and then restored from backup.
All seems to be working fine now, spotlight working, music app not crashing - syncing all the apps back on and fingers crossed that it's fixed.
So far so good.

Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • IPhone 4, iOS 6 update, and wifi - cannot browse WWW via DNS

Apologies for the long post in advance. Hopefully it's exhaustive enough for Apple to take notice.
    tl;dr:
updated iPhone 4 (VZW) to iOS 6 on home wi-fi. now phone will not browse to WWW on home wi-fi, EXCEPT WHEN BYPASSING DNS (ie, browsing by IP address). tried lots. no success
    full events detail:
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 yesterday evening (via iTunes on my Win 7 x64 PC). Upon completion, I ran into some trouble trying to sign in with my AppleID in order to restore from my iCloud backup. Suspecting that Apple's servers were just experiencing trouble (though nothing indicated iCloud was down), I skipped signing in and went about my day. The rest of my settings copied across from my computer. At that point, I slept on it.
The following morning (today), I noticed that I still could not sign in, but was off to work and did not have time to examine it further. At the office, all seemed well, and I used the phone with the updated OS largely without issue, including connecting to two new wifi networks. Returning home, however, I noticed that the behavior was the same as the previous evening, ie I could not connect to things like the App Store in order to install updates, the web to look for information, etc. Now having time to troubleshoot, I pressed forward with the investigation and immediately found a number of support community and web threads detailing wi-fi issues on devices after updating to iOS 6. I followed the steps I found, but I still have the same issue. Below is the list of things I've attempted, to the best of my ability to recollect.
    1. forget network, rejoin - same symptoms
    2. power off phone, power on - same symptoms
    3. set wi-fi network HTTP proxy to Auto - same symptoms
    3. forget network, power off wi-fi, power off cellular data, power on wi-fi, rejoin network (same symptoms), power on cellular data (same symptoms)
    4. power off bluetooth (already done, no change), power on bluetooth - same symptoms
    5. forget network, airplane mode on, power on wi-fi, rejoin network - same symptoms
    6. clear cookies, cache, website data - same symptoms
    7. try another browser (Opera) - same symptoms
    8. try static IP on wi-fi network - same symptoms
    9. forget network, power off router, turn off wi-fi, power off phone, power on phone, reset network settings, power on wi-fi, power on router (after 5+ mins), rejoin - same symptoms
    10. restore phone to factory defaults (same symptoms) and restore from backup (same symptoms)
    11. enable SSID broadcast on router - same symptoms
    12. enable WMM on 802.1n router - already enabled, same symptoms
    13. disable 40MHz channels on 802.1n router - same symptoms
    14. set router to 802.1g operation - same symptoms
    15. remove wireless security from wi-fi network - same symptoms
    16. change SSID - same symptoms
    17. update router firmware - no updates available, also, same router was working prior to update and continues to work without trouble with all other wi-fi devices in the house
    18. try another router - already verified this works, but as a result of the particulars of this case, is not relevant as my home router is not at fault, so much as the update to iOS 6 is on my iPhone 4. as other routers work and as a factory restore did not resolve (prior to backup restoration), I also do not believe my iPhone 4 to be at fault, so much as the software update itself
Having exhausted all of those suggestions, I dug further. The phone was working without issue up until the moment it needed to reboot to apply the downloaded iOS 6 update. I initially encountered the incorrect password scenario during the post-update configuration, but after forgetting and setting up the wireless profile from scratch (from the iOS 6 setup wizard), it joined my wi-fi network. The phone DID pull an IP address from my router, and responded to pings from other devices on my network without issue. In addition, using the Safari browser to web to a local network device, such as my router, was successful, indicating that the wi-fi network was established and routing appropriately. All other devices on the network, wired or otherwise, were working without issue. I then attempted to trace traffic and found that none of my phone's web requests were reaching my router, except for those targeted at the LAN. I then tried browsing to an IP to ensure there was not a DNS issue, and my phone browsed successfully. I then tried another site by domain name and failed, and then its IP and was successful. I verified against my router's logs that the web requests were routing through it to ensure that my cellular data wasn't taking over, and the logs confirmed it. At that point, I tried changing DNS from my standard servers to another set, but the behavior remained the same. I then tried setting my router as the DNS server, but the issue remained.
In conclusion, it appears to be some sort of DNS issue specific to the update. I would also hazard a guess that this is impacting people on the networks where they downloaded the update and/or were connected when the phone actually updated. I've tried setting the profile to use local, ISP, and public DNS servers, but as the requests never reach my router, I am inclined to believe it's being restricted by a setting on the phone itself. Because the problem persists through a factory restore, it would seem to point to all data not being truly erased during that process. Recall that I'm having the same issue prior to a backup being restored to the device, and that this issue prevents iCloud from being accessed during the setup process while on the problematic wi-fi network, so that should rule out the backup playing any part in the trouble.
    Any thoughts?

The OP is correct, I have done many tests.  With IOS6 there appears to be a dns issue in some cases with IOS for both ipad(2) at lease (my wife won't let me upgrade here v1) and the iPhone4s in my case.  Pretty easy to diagonse, I wish Apple would fix it.
1.) I use a Juniper 5GT wireless firewall and all of my other devices (many apple, ipad, MBP, iMAC,3 ipods etc) are fine: Not ipad2 or iphone4s running IOS6
2.) after upgrade nothing worked.  narrowed it down by messing with dns (I have my own dns server)
3.) Strange thing; dns works over MiFI (Verizon) and Carrier
4.) confirmed that it is a dns and not network issue.
-down load free tool called ping-scope-lite.   (obviously you need to turn off wifi to do this)
      http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ping-scope-lite/id431500107?mt=8
    turn on wifi
    - ping Level3 dns server 4.2.2.2 or Googlesdns servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 these worked.
-now ping by name google.com or ipchicken.com
       - try others; same result.
Apple did say that they would give me another iphone 4s: I just wasn't sure that would fix my issue.  I tried downgrading to 5.1.1 but I got an error saying my device wasn't able to do so (tried even blocking itunes from contacting Apple)  I whis this could be fixed.  I did even have it working using my own dns server but now I can see that my phone over wifi isn't even trying to make a dns request now.
    Stuck

  • Iphone 3 ios 6 update questions

I am connecting my iphone 3 to itunes and nothing is happening it says it needs the ios 6 update but it wont do anything what do i do?

Right now you only have 2 options.  Keep using the iOS version that is installed on the iPhone, or hit the restore button and upgrade to teh latest version of iOS that is availabel for your device (which as of right now appears to be iOS 7.0.2).
-> Ok Noted. Not much choices huh? hehe..
I'm not sure what research you have done that shows iOS 7.0.2 significantly decreases the perfomrance of the iPhone 4.
-> Various Youtube videos showing iPhone 4 runing iOS 7
I currently have an iPhone 4 (32GB, unlocked AT&T model) that is working just fine with iOS 7.0.2.  I do not have any lags on my keyboard (I can type and the letters appear on the screen as fast as I type them).  My battery life is not noticiably different than with iOS 6.1.3.  I use my iPhone 4 mostly for playing podcasts and a few games, and I can make it through an entire day (playing 3-5 hours of podcasts and maybe an hour or two of games) and still have more than 50% battery remaining at the end of the day.  I havent turned off all the new features, I haven't done anything drastic, and it still seems to work the same as it did under iOS 6.1.3 for me.  I do know that I keep my iPhone updated through iTunes rather than using the OTA updates.  I have seen that OTA updates seem to leave teh networking stack in a corrupted state which can cause the battery to drain at a rate of about 3-5% in 10 minutes.  When I see an iPhone that has this issue, I perform a Network Settings reset, then perform a manual restart of the device, followed by charging the iPhone up, and the problem seems to be resolved until the user does another OTA update
-> Good info, thanks a lot bro!
It is a tough call to make because once you make the choice to upgrade, you can't go back, and you cna only go to the newest iOS version that is available for your device.
-> I will update to the latest iOS version then =)

  • IPhone 6/iOS 8 email issues with wifi connection

    Hi
I have just upgraded from an iPhone 4 (iOS 7) to an iPhone 6 (iOS 8) and am having an issue with my pop email account. I used my iPhone 4 backup to set up new iPhone, so all the settings were as they were in my old phone. I have two email accounts, one is an IMAP account and the other is a POP account (which is my main email), I have no problems connecting to the server and downloading emails when connected via 4G (its super fast), but when I am connected via wifi, the POP account takes ages to connect to the server and check for emails (stuck on checking for email). I can speed up the process by closing mail app completely and reopening, then it checks and downloads really quickly (IMAP account has no problems), but this is frankly a pain.
I have spent ages on the phone with Apple support, who have got me to delete my POP email account twice, reset network settings, reset the phone using on/off button and home button, all to no avail. They are intent on telling me it's my email service providers fault, but as I pointed out there is no issue on 4G and my old iPhone (using iOS 7) on wifi has no issues, so can't be email provider. I have also tried using Apple's wifi in store to rule out router issue and the problem happened there too.
Have now run out of suggestions and options. I'm not sure if it's the phone itself, either a hardware or software issue (Apple support think not). Someone told me that it could be the wifi on my phone blocking the connection to the server. I have an appointment booked at the genius brand they have suggested wiping the phone and setting up as a new phone to see if the problem occurs, but this seems a bit drastic and I would lose all messages etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I have solved the issue! I tried my pop account on other devices with iOS 8 and the same thing happened, so I deduced that the issue is a glitch in iOS 8 with wifi and pop accounts. I managed to get hold of the IMAP settings for my email provider and all seems to be well. Happy days!

  • Greyed out songs on iphone after iOS 5 update

So I updated my iPhone 4 for the iOS 5 update. Before doing mine I did my husbands iPhone 4. My update seems to have been successful but all my songs are greyed out, however they're fine on his phone. It did prompt me to change our applie ID when we set up his phone so we did that. We're both signed into the same apple ID (just like we were before the update), and I just can't figure out whats going on. HELP!!

I had a similar problem with songs greyed out and not syncing and apps not syncing either. I also tried multiple restarts and redownloading iOS5 etc. The one thing which seems to have sorted it out for me is buying a (free) app from the app store on my iphone and then syncing with itunes. Oddly enough this seems to have woken itunes up to the fact that stuff wasn't synced and started the process of a full sync.
A bit random and i read this on another thread, but it worked for me.

  • WiFi issues with iPhone 4S & ios 6 update

    Okay here is my issue...
I've been reading alot of issues that people have with connecting to WiFi with their new iPhone 5, iPhone 4S or other devices but I have no trouble connecting to WiFi at all. My problem is that WiFi wont 'work'. The WiFi I'm hooked up to at home doesn't let me do basically anything that requires internet.
I can get on the Facebook app fine and my newsfeed loads but I can't see Facebook notifications, upload photos or videos, read inboxes, look at photos, its very slow etc.
I can't get into the App Store or iTunes at all. It says it 'Cannot Connect to iTunes Store' when I try.
I can't upload photos onto Instagram
Currently I'm into the Simpsons Tapped Out game and I can't go onto it at all.
And there are a few other minor issues I am having.
All these things I can do with my Telstra 3G network however and it ***** because I want to use and do all these things but I have to use my 3G and I've just recently gone over my data monthly usage and been charged extra which I'm not happy about.
So is anyone else having these issues or is it just me and I'm stuffed? I'd REALLY love some help.
I've been lost with what to do because as some are having WiFi issues as well, mine isnt the same and it's hard to find answers or just other discussions.
    Please Help!
    Thankyou.

I am having the same issue since updating to iOS 6.  It has been noticeable on my iPhone 4S and a little less noticeable on my iPad 3 but I think it is happening on the iPad too.  Very annoying problem.  One way to get it to work better is to re-boot your phone.  It will work for awhile then and then eventually not be working anymore and you will need to re-boot again.
Just to be clear with everyone - the iPhone looks like it is connected to the wireless, it gets an IP address but can't transmit any data.  Device:  iPhone 4S, OS:  iOS6

  • IPhone 4s Post iOS 6 Update Issues

After updating to iOS6 I noticed several issues with my Sprint iPhone 4s.
One, which many have written about already is faster rate of battery drain that is happening whether the phone is in use or not.
But one other thing that I haven't seen any discussion about is during a regular call, my iPhone 4s becomes rather warm, almost too hot to handle.
Is anyone else having this issue? And what can be done about it until Apple graces us with a fix to their update?

I am having some crazy issues over the last couple days and I live in SF Bay area too. On AT&T not Verizon. Updated to ios6 almost a month ago and didnt start having issue until Thursday
First I'm stuck in a call, can't end or go to screen that shows the keypad or put on speaker; nothing.
2.Then on Fri no badge on SMS app and all new and old texts gone.
    3. Can't even start new sms from icon in top right nor from send message button in each contact
Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Iphone 4s camera and iOS 7 update issue

After updating to iOS 7, the camera on my wife's iPhone 4S doesn't appear on the home screen anymore. Anybody know how to get the camera back?

having the same problem here!! Update went fine. Phone shut down and when i charged it and reopened my password would not work

  • Iphone 5 / iOS 6 IMAP issues

This is a strange one, however I see many people are reporting similar issues.
I just received my iPhone 5 last night and I'm unable to access my primary email accounts on the device via IMAP. After entering and deleting my email account multiple, tried with SSL (how I normally do it) and without SSL, etc... it continues to tell me that I'm entering the wrong username and password. (which I'm possitive is correct as I'm able to log in via webmail with no issues.)
My email accounts are run through a cpanel server, I've alternated between courier and dovecot on the server, no change. Mail logs on the server are showing that I'm getting to the server, my AT&T IP, etc... and that the password is being rejected. I'm wondering if it's doing something which the characters of the password when it trys to pass it to the server.
One addtional note, my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 both updated to iOS 6 on Sept 19th with no problems, IMAP is working normally on those devices. The issue is on my iPhone 5 only.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Joe

I had the same problem today with my iPhone5 and the upgrade to IOS 6.1 over my wireless network.  The phone clearly saw the network, just wouldn't accept my password (which I verified in my keychain on my laptop).  I reset the network on the phone per other posts, turned Airplane mode on and off, restored my phone.  Still no luck.  Then I went into my home office and held the phone right next to my airport extreme, and it finally took my password.  Now its connected, with same strong signal it always had throughout my house.  No idea why that worked but not arguing!  Hope that helps.

  • Iphone 3G, iOS 4 update - no more bluetooth with Kenwood KDC X993 carstereo

i updated my 3G with iOS 4 the other night (took over 4 hours). in addition to losing all my contacts, photos, notes, settings, some apps, and calendar entries my 3G phone will no longer pair with my car stereo after the update.
i did what the Genius at the Briargate (Colorado Springs, CO) Apple store told me to do...restore, start as new phone, and the phone still will not pair with the stereo. the phone was working fine before the update, after the update it no longer pairs with the stereo. after being totally frustrated with two associates (one told me if the resetting did not correct it i would get a new phone...he agreed to it, Alex was his name, i asked to speak to the manager. i was then told by the smug young manager that apple is not responsible for incompatibility issues after a software update with third party devices...and basically good luck to you and try contacting the stereo manufacturer. for what i asked? apple seems to have made 'better' software that renders its once working device useless with a stereo that i purchased that was compatible with the 3G just a couple days ago. i still have a 3G but with 'better' software that no longer works with the products i purchased that were once compatible. it seems to me that if a company like apple does not factor in the thousands of third party products, bluetooth in this case, to use with their products when an update is made they are leaving their customers out to dry and their staff dont seem to care. it is now my problem. what if it was a new car with a factory stereo that had this same problem? is the car's system now obsolete? i would hope that apple with think about making new products compatible backwards to keep customers happy.
apple...i want my old operating system back so my phone and car stereo are not useless when next to each other. i paid a lot of money for that stereo for that specific feature and your retail store staff did nothing to help me. they were arrogant and made me, the customer, unsatisfied and left with no solution to a problem created by your software. simply...it worked fine the old operating system, which i cannot get back apparently, and your new software broke it. please help. offer the old operating system again...i cant be the only one who is going through this.

    Hey,
My father has that iPhone version and was slow after updating to iOS 4, ( I have iPhone 4) Do regualr poweroffs to clear the ram on the phone also
Try Doing a Hard Reset by holding the lock and home button until the apple logo come on screen. ( No data will be lost)
Also Clear Safari's Cache/History in the settings.
    Hope these will slightly help

  • IPhone 4 iOS 7 Update Crashes 75% Through Loading Bar

    Hello,
This issue is very, very frustrating .For the past several hours I have been trying to update this device. First off, when trying to update it gave me the 3014 error. I know what that means. It means I've tried to hack into the phone, which I have not. Eventually I progressed passed that part after taking the phone of the USB chord about a million times, it got to the verifying update bar in iTunes and gave me the 3014 error. After that, the phone became useless. It now just displays the 'Connect to iTunes' graphic. I do that and half the time it just tells me it can't connect to the update server. Finally, I managed to get it passed the verifying part and into the install part. It gets to about 75% and just hangs and gives me the 3014 error again. I had no choice but unplug the phone. It's really a guessing game to see whether I will get passed certain parts to update the phone. Really not happy with this service. Disappointed to say the least. And please, do not direct me to restore pages and other Apple made support pages. I've done all that reading and it hasn't helped a bit.

    Hello there,
