Iphone 4s is extremely slow after 5.1.1 update

Since updating to the latest (5.1.1) my phone is barely usable for anything mroe than 'just' a phone and basic texting.
Web browsing is terribly slow - regardless of if using data network or wireless connection at home.  Apps are slow to respond and often the touch screen doesn't even register being touched or registers the touch incorrectly (wrong position for ex.)

I am aware what reverting to default means - unless you're a developer yourself, probably more aware than you are.
The problem is the update, not apps installed (and fyi yes I have reverted to default - as have many others that I've seen posting even here, and having issues still) but rather the update.  This isn't a request for assistance.  This is a report of an issue - and of a disgruntled user
back-to back-to back updates released and causing people issues and then innane attempts at 'fixing' the issue by telling people to jump through hoops until they get sick of trying and then just deal with the issues in hopes of an update that actually works (ie: resolves issues without causing more and worse issues) leads to customers taking business elsewhere.
which is what I'll be doing.  My wife will be getting a new phone in july and as of right now it certainly wont be an apple product.

My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd. Earlier I thought this behavior is due to spotlight indexing but it finished after 3 days. I deleted all caches from library. But no luck, still running extremely slow. I checked activity monitor for cpu usage, it shows above 90% is idle. The memory usage always shows PM - 4 GB, Memory Used 3.96 GB, VM - 4 GB, Swaped used 0 bytes, App Memory 1.82 GB, File Cache 1.44 GB, Wired Memory 480 MB.
    Thanks in adavnce for help.

Was it the combo updater that was installed or the OS X 10.9.3 update. There is a difference.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

  • IPhone 3G is extremely slow after 4.0 update.

Both my sister and I have experienced our phones to be extremely slow after updating them. The messages take a few seconds to open, same with the apps. Also while typing, nothing will show up then all of a sudden everything you had typed will show up. It just seems like everything on the phone is slow. I've done some research on it, and everyone said to restore it. The people at Apple said not to do that unless it's the last resort. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Why post the same question twice ?

  • My iPhone 3G is Extremely slow after OS4 Update. How do I go back?

Is there a way to go back to the orginal version before I updated to OS4. I want my old iphone back, this is nonsense. Why release an update that slows the phone down to the point it's unusable?
Does anyone have the same issue? If so, what did you do about it? Did anyone try and go to the apple store? What was their result? I was thinkign of going there today, but I will probably just be turned around without an appointment at the 'genius bar'.

Found this article, http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2010/07/tipspeed_up_your_older_iphone_3g_running_ios_41.html, which linked to this Lifehacker item, http://lifehacker.com/5599406/ which calls for disabling Spotlight. I did, and my phone is much snappier. Happy once again.

  • Disk access extremely slow after 10.5.2 Update

I did the update to 10.5.2 today.
    1. I tried to update via Software Update. The update started but then stopped with an Error message (Contact Support) and the system freezed. There was just the spinning wheel on blue background for more than one hour. No more harddisk activity. I finally rebooted (hard way). After a reboot I had a somehow upgraded system. But many things did not work anymore (most applications crashed, mail could not access keychain items anymore, etcpp)
    2. Then I downloaded the complete Update package to do a manual update (happily firefox still worked). After a manual install it worked. It installed fine and rebooted. Now everything works as it should with the only problem that everything is extremly slow. Starting an application lasts about double the time as normal, loading files takes 3 to 4 times more time than with 10.5.1
To fix these issues I tried several things:
    - Fixed permissions
    - Cleared all cache files and forced system to rebuild them
    - Severall reboots
    - Waited until backup completed and Spotlight index was rebuilt
Bootup time is now fine (more or less). Just a little slower than 10.5.1. Application start is still slow but better. But the file access is still extremly slow. This can be observed very well in Parallels which still works fine, but needs 3 to 4 times longer to start (so do all applications within parallels). I checked CPU (Activity Monitor) but could not see anything special.
Any ideas what could be the reason for this behaviour and (more important) how to possibly fix this? I'm thinking about going back to 10.5.1 with time-machine and then try it again with the package install.
    Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

  • HT1688 Why is My iPhone 4 is extremely slow after updated to ios7

My Iphone 4 is basically impossible to use after updating it to ios7.  When I type a text message I have timed it taking up to 45 seconds before any letters show up.  It also is very slow if I am typing in safari for a website.

I did too.  I went to Settings > iCloud > Documents and Data, then turned off  documents and data, and now it is back to normal.  Apparently you cannot take advantage of both on the iphone 4 and 4s.

  • Time Machine to AFP volume is extremely slow after 10.5.2 update

I remember the time, after I have just installed the very first version of Leopard, when Time Machine was working with close to physical speed of my wireless network. Incremental backups would take less than a minute.
Comes 10.5.1. Time Machine became slower, but still tolerable: it might take up to 10 minutes to do an hourly backup.
Comes 10.5.2. Now Time Machine might take a couple of hours to do its "hourly" backup! 99% of the time it spends backing stuff up - when it shows the progress of the backup. So right now it says it's backing up 34.1 megabytes, and then it stopped at 1.4 megabytes, spent there about 15 minutes. Then it continued to about 9.5 megabytes, spend another 20 minutes there, without any progress, no CPU usage, very little network usage. Then it progressed to about 10.5 megabytes, and stuck again. Now it's at 15.2 megabytes, and been there for about 10 minutes already.
I use Airport Extreme base station with 802.11n at 5GHz, and the backup volume is on my Mac Mini, connected to AEBS via an ethernet cable, and during the phases when Time Machine gets stuck, I tested how the network works from my MacBook Pro, which I'm trying to backup to Mac Mini - constantly getting about 8-9 megabytes per second transfer rate, so clearly it's not that my wireless network is experiencing issues. Besides, the same problem persists even if I plug Ethernet cable directly into my MacBook Pro.
I've cleaned all caches, repaired permissions, repaired all volumes, rebuilt Spotlight indices on both my MacBook Pro and in the backup sparse bundle. The only thing it solved is insanely long "Preparing for backup" issue, but it DIDN'T solve the slow backup I have just described.
For comparison: rsync takes about a minute to do a full sync of my entire hard drive to the same AFP volume. Apple Backup 3.1.2 takes about as much. Time Machine - hours. I fail to even begin to imagine what in a world might they be doing there, spending this much time copying 34.1 megabytes of data over the network.
P.S. As I finish writing this, the backup progress is still at 15.2 magebytes. About 15 minutes now. A little over an hour now and not even half of the 34 megabytes is completed.

  • Running extremely slow after most recent software update. Would love some help troubleshooting and fixing, thank you!

Hi folks. Since my last software update, my computer has slowed to a near halt. Help!
    I have a late 2009 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.8.2. 2.26 Ghz / 8 gb memory.
I went into the Disk Utility and ran "verify disk," and got an "ok." Verified and repaired disk permissions. No idea if they're relevant.
At this moment the activity monitor is showing 3.79 gb of free memory -- 10 minutes ago, when I was doing nothing particularly differently, it showed all 7.99 gb in use (active and inactive -- I have. No idea what this means.)
It's all beach balls around here, all the time. Any ideas?

Your problem is excessive swapping of data between physical memory and virtual memory.
That can happen for two reasons:
You have a long-running process with a memory leak (i.e., a bug), or
You don't have enough memory installed for your usage pattern.
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination. In Activity Monitor, select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Click the heading of the  Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more memory over time without ever releasing it.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details:

  • IPhone 3G running extremely slow with iOS4

Anyone else having issues with their iPhone 3G running extremely slow since the iOS4 update? I am mainly noticing it in my messages, when typing a text message, it takes about 20 seconds to respond after touching the letters and when receiving a text message when in the middle of replying the previous messages disappear up, and you must swipe your finger down the screen to get them back.
Any suggestions to help resolve it?

All of us 3G users are waiting.
I just got off the phone with Apple Tech Support (I have the Apple Protection Plan for the 3G iPhone) and he had we do a reset as a new user.
After reading these recent posts, it is obvious that Apple owes us a real fix to their software upgrade.
It's very frustrating to use this phone now especially when it ran so well with the previous OS, 3.1.3.
The fact that Apple does not allow or support downgrading (or, in this case, an "upgrade") to the previous version or a fix now, is not favorable to the company's customers or image, in my opinion.
I specifically asked the tech when a fix will be coming out and he said in a couple of weeks, but that is mainly for the antenna issue. When pressed for an answer to our problems, he said he wasn't sure if that update to version 4 will address the 3G issues.
He suggested I post "product suggestions" @ apple.com/feedack and said that Apple does read these comments as well as the Discussion Boards....
Hey, Apple, if you're reading this......Help us out already with this software mess or face losing customers!!

  • Apple TV extremely slow after sleeping

Hi all, My apple tv early 2012 is extremely slow after its slept.. (by slow i mean the wifi connection, both to internet and airplay)... Its so slow you can't hear a song or anything, it keeps cutting in and out.. I don't know why this is and its starting to annoy me..
It has only been happening recently (last two weeks)  so  far I have tried :
multiple restars = works until the next time it goes into sleep mode or left for a long time
restore = same as above (latest software)
disconnect and reconnect does the same thing.. works until I leave it overnight..
Anyone with any ideas what this could be?
I thought maybe it was my router but none of my other products are doing this : iphone 4  and 5 and two laptops..
There has been no physical damage to the 6 months old apple TV
    Thanks all!

I have a macbook. but after the restore home share hasn't been activated.. its with streaming content from the internet with apple tv itself and also airplay runs extremely choppy

my final cut is running extremely slow after having for 6 months.  I use external hard drives and save nothing on my computer.  it takes a long time to render now. do you think something is wrong with computer. took it to mac store but they fail to help me.  I have a 13 inch mac book pro 10.6.8 8gb 2.3 gfz intel core i5

What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go.  And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too.  FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't.

  • IPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maveric

Has anyone noticed that iPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maverick

    I've noticed that it isn't.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
