IPhone 4s is locked activation locked after resetting it.

I recently bought a iPhone 4s for my dad off of someone from a Facebook buy, sell, and trade group. I got it home and reset the phone so it was like brand new. I went to re-activate it and it is requiring the email & password that was used to activate the account when it was first used. I contacted the person i got it from and they wouldn't reply to me about them deleting the phone from their iCloud so that i could activate it with no problem. I don't know what to do exactly because I can't contact apple on the phone because of them needing a serial number for the phone, which i cannot retrieve. I need to know how to bypass this step since they will not cooperate with me. Thanks.

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • If I buy an iPhone and it is activation lock how do I get around this?

If I buy an iPhone and it is activation lock how do I get around this?

If you have a proper Invoice for the device that is locked Apple may give you a replacement for that but they will charge you a Nominal Fee for that. And the best option is as said above to contact the previous owner and ask him to erase and remove the device from his iCloud account.

  • HT201441 I have an iPhone that is in 'activation lock' state no iCloud account details.

    Hi,
I recently restored my iPhone and it's now in 'activation lock' state.
I don't remember my iCloud account details, and I did not succeed in resetting the password (can't remember security answers).
I can prove ownership of the device, is it possible for Apple to "unlink" my iPhone from the iCloud account?

    Sorry DrDevil,
You are going to have to turn off Find My iPhone in order to get past the Activation Lock. Turning off Find My iPhone requires you to know your Apple/iCloud/iTunes password. If you can't remember your password, and you don't know the answers to your security questions, you will have to contact iTunes Support to reset them for you:

    or by email:

  • How do I erase my iPhone 4 data and activation lock remotely?

I sold my iPhone 4 and was completely brain dead - I didn't erase my phone data. The buyer is remote and is being asked for my passcode. I've gone into Find my Phone and erased the data, which will happen once it's connected to the internet - however, he can't connect to the internet without my passcode.
Is there a way to remove the Activation Lock and erase my data remotely without the buyer seeing any of my data? Everything I have seen suggests removing the iPhone 4 from my Find my Phone first, and then erasing the data. How does this work if I have removed this phone from Find My Phone? I'm unsure how I can erase the data remotely if I have turned off Find my Phone.
    Any insights?
    Thanks

Is Find My Phone turned on?
You'll have to login to iCloud.com, from any computer, locate, then erase your phone. Once done, restore from backup, if you have one.
That's the only way for you to fix this.
It's will not work if the phone is not connected to the internet.

  • Iphone 5s stuck at activation screen after restoring to factory setting

I had deleted my Apple ID and created one same Apple ID again. After i restored my iphone to factory setting, it stuck at the activation screen, even if i filled in the correct Apple ID and password, it shows "cannot use this Apple ID to unock this phone'. Seek for help.

You need the AppleID and passcode used to originally activate the iPhone.
This is a new security feature in iOS7 called Activation Lock. There is no
    workaround.
Without the AppleID and passcode used to activate the iPhone, it will be useless
    to you and everyone else.
If it is only the passcode that you forgot, try here:

  • IPhone 3GS stuck on activation screen after updating to iOS 6.13

    Hi!
I have updates my iPhone 3GS to iOS 6.13 and it got stuck in the activation mode.
I went to see Apple Genius and was told that my phone has locked itself to O2 simcard only.
I contacted O2 and my iPhone has just been unlocked.
however, when I try to finish the activation it still keeps failining with the message when I use WiFi:
"could not activate iPhone, your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable."
When I try through iTunes, it says: "we're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time"
Next available appointments at near apple stores are only mid-week..
any advice on what should I do?
I tried restoring it (held lock button until logo came up), but it keeps taking me to activation screen.
any help would be much appreciated...

Is there a SIM in the device?  A SIM is required for activation.
The most common reason for activation issues is due to the device being hacked or jailbroken.  If this is the case, no support can be provided here and Apple will not touch the device.

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

  • Help! Firmware lock activated itself after Deja Vu backup

My friend just called in a panic. He and another Mac friend have been trying to revive his blue screened Powerbook. His friend says that the firmware lock has been enabled, and they don't have any idea what the code could be, especially as it seemed to have set itself. Has anyone heard of this? If so, what could be the fix? Thanks for any and all help!

you can take it to Apple service provider in your area, they should be able to reset it.

I bought my iphone 3gs about an hour ago and to have my privacy i reset first the network and next i reset all my data then it restart and now its still at the loading screen about 1hr. Thank u for the help!

    Hello KylaAquino,
It sounds like you are unable to boot your iPhone successfully after performing a Reset All content and Settings. I recommend first attempting to reset the device in this manner:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
From: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If that does not get you booted to the setup screen, I would next try putting the phone into recovery mode, and attempting a restore with iTunes. This article will help you with that:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone 4 will not sync music after resetting and upgrading to 6.1.3

When I upgraded my iPhone to 6,1,3, an error message came up telling me to reset my iPhone. With the backup it went fine until I yesterday decided to listen to some of my 4400 songs. All the music is gone. I have had iPhone, iPad and iPod since they came on the market, and I have used Apple for some 25 years. I have neveer experienced this problem. I have checked all the settings both on my MBP (with all the latest software) and on my iPhone. Everything looks normal. There is about 25Gb available space on the iPhone. It goes through the stages of syncing, but skps the music. I could try resetting it again, but just incase the problem is a setting I have overlooked, I am asking all of you out there who have experienced this problem earlier and found a solution.

This is almost embarassing. For some totally unexplainable reason all the songs in iTunes were unchecked. I was considering syncing the whole iTunes library to my iPnone, tut even with the 32 Gb version it would not hold it all. I restarted my MBP, and the message about the unchecked songs came up. It obviously is not enough to have songs checked for the iPhone. Thanks anyway.

  • HT201365 What if you buy a activation locked device and previous owner is unavailable?

I purchased a iPhone 5s with an activation lock from craigslist. Selling party is unavailable. What options do I have of reconciling any funds, if any?
Or have I just purchased a $500 clock?

You are now the proud owner $500 paper weight.
You can try reporting it to Craig's List as a fraudulent sale. They might be able to help you.

  • Can't pair my iPhone 4 after reset

A genius reset my iPhone 4 due to prox sensor, after reset it said my car instead of jaguar under the Bluetooth menu. It used to say jaguar and got replaced with my car tried to delete it and repair. Help

Probably because it was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it.

  • Out of curiosity: Will Activation Lock still work after an iPhone auto-erases on the 10th failed passcode attempt?

Believe me, I'm no chicken when it comes to security. Using a combination of a strong alphanumeric passcode laced with non-Latin homoglyphs, Activation Lock (which Find My iPhone automatically enables), a disabled Siri when the phone is locked, a disabled Control Center when the phone is locked (both of those are security risks due to Airplane Mode), and Data Protection (erase phone after 10 failed passcode attempts), there's no doubt someone other than me is going to have a real hard time trying to use my device...
... Or so it seems. I've been digging through the Apple support articles to find out what exactly Activation Lock does, and I noticed that if someone goes into Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings and erases the device in a seemingly authorized manner, Activation Lock gets disabled with it. However, if someone else tries to erase it, or if it's erased remotely, then it will still display the Activation Lock message and require login with the username and passcode used to log in initially. Here's the real issue, though: Not one of those articles mentions what happens when you have Data Protection enabled and Data Protection happens to get set off by a thief attempting to brute force one's passcode, and how nicely Activation Lock plays with it. Does anyone else have that information, just in case?

While I have yet to confirm this with Apple, my understanding is that the auto-erase wil leave the Activation Lock intact. AL wouldn't be of much use if a thief could get around it by just entering in the wrong passcode multiple times. You'll forgive me though, I trust, if I don't try to test this with my own device.
    Regards.
