iPhone 4S is not charging. Upon connecting to macbook air, it gives the power surge alert. Please help.

What do you mean by "power surge alert"? What exactly does it say when you try to connect it? If you're talking about the message about a USB device drawing too much power, that can sometimes be caused by a bad cable or something stuck in the port. Do you have another cable you can try?

when I make a call or recieve a call, the voice of the other person is not heard. but speaker phone works. what could be the trouble. could you please help me in resolving this? iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3.i had purchased my iphone 4  factory unlocked from usa last month.i am from india so will any apple service centre help me for this issue?

They will help you just make sure that you make a appointment before you go into the store. Also if the iPhone needs to be replaced and you are not within your year of hardware coverage, that is when they will ask you to pay a fee.

  • My MacBook Air, once pressed the power button, comes up with a file containing a question mark. I have tried re-starting it but this logo continues to appear and will not go. I cannot log onto my mac. Any suggestions as to what this is please?

You need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My iPhone 5 will not charge. Has new battery. Must be the lightening connection. Any advice. Genius told me to buy a new phone for $250. HELP,

My iPhone 5 will not charge. Even though it will show that it is charging, it will often not accept a charge. Appears to be the lightening connection, because I can sometimes get it to work by playing with the connection point.  Phone is 16 months old. This problem has been on-going for months, and is getting worse.
Anything I can do other than buying another new phone?

  • IPhone 4S will not charge or connect to iTunes

For the last week or so, my iPhone has been dying very quickly, I end up having to charge it 4 to 5 times a day, and when it does charger, it always overheats. Suddenly, my iPhone has stopped charging and it will not connect to iTunes. I have tried resetting it, using other chargers, blowing out the charging port and updating iTunes. Every now and then, I will try to turn my phone on and it will be at 6% and then it will turn off 5 seconds later. Other times, I will try to plug my iPhone into the wall or computer and it will show the charger with lightning bolt screen and it is plugged in. I have no clue what is happening, or how to fix it. PLEASE HELP!

I had a diagnosis done, and they said that it was not because of the battery, but they said it should be replaced.

  • My iphone 4 will not charge or connect to itunes.

I got this from a friend, she had thrown the iphone against a wall and the back glass plate is broken. But it worked fine, really well. A month later it started having battery issues. Now it wont charge. Actually, i have no idea whats really wrong with it. It will take days to charge at a time and will have a full battery when it turns on, but if i unplug it from the usb it wont stay on. Even though it says its charged 100%. Now it wont turn on at all. It just has the red battery chargeing thing. Ive tried pressing the home/sleep buttons. And it wont connect to itunes. Please help me. (This is an iphone 4 16 gb).

It's entirely possible when your friend threw the phone against the wall (breaking the back glass plate) that it damaged the internal battery of the iPhone.
It is likely you will need to take your phone in to be serviced.
Take a look at the troubleshooting steps in the following article:
    TS2802 iPhone: Hardware Troubleshooting
    Specifcally the following:
Will not turn on, or will not turn on unless connected to power
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if the Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) in the headset jack or dock connector is activated or there are signs of corrosion or debris. Learn more about LCIs.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
If something other than the Home screen or Low Battery screen appears on the display, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, try resetting it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter. To reset, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or the battery symbol appears.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Restore the iPhone. Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • IPhone 4 will not charge - it connects, but then disconnects

    iPhone 4 8gb/White. Purchased November 2011, AT&T.
Just started happening Saturday (2 days ago).
Plug in the 30-pin connector, and USB to PC: it will chirp, but then stop.  This same PC/USB connector supports 2 other iPods (4th gen) and a iPhone 4S (granted, not all are plugged in together, but one at a time!), and the White iPhone 4 is the only one with the issue.
Tried on another PC, USB plugged directly in, no hubs, no extensions, again, a cable that is tried and true and works on other iOS devices. SAME problem. Chirp-on, then disconnect after 1 second.  Does this repeatedly 3 or 4 times in a row, then gives up for a while.
Tried with straight USB AC power cube - same result.   Tried a different USB AC power cube - same result.
I have tried to power the phone off and charge it with the power off, but when the port wakes back up, it turns the phone back on.
I managed to keep enough charge in the phone to update it from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. Also did a "reset all settings" - and the problem persists.
I have NOT yet done an erase all settings (is it necessary?) or restore, but mostly because the port won't stay connected long enough to do so.
This phone has NO liquid sensors tripped, does not have a lot of use on it, only has 17 total hours usage on cellular usage.
I have an appointment at the Apple store tomorrow. Is there something I should try in the meantime?
    Recap:
I have ruled out the cable, the PC, power cube, as all other iOS devices work fine with the combination of cables/chargers/etc.

Clean the dock connector using a soft, dry brush.

  • IPhone 4 will not charge when connected to power

I have tried the home/ power trick and at first it went to the apple logo then would power up and then cycle off and then repeat infinitely. Now the phone is so low on power that it only shows either the lightening bolt while connected or the cord + lightening bolt when not connected to power. It is still not charging though. I left plugged in overnight and still no change.Help please

If not a problem with the power adaptor or cable being used, more than likely the iPhone has a hardware problem with the battery or something else. Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • My iPhone 4 will not charge when connected to a Toshiba S-75 computer.

I have an iPhone 4 that charged on a USB connection to a HP computer. I recently purchased a Toshiba S75-A7221 laptop, which has the "sleep and charge" feature. At first, the phone would charge, then it started to beep, so did the laptop. One beep alternates with the other. I contacted Toshiba. They indicate that for $49 they can reset the computer, and that will fix the problem. I am not so sure, as the Toshiba documentation indicates that for some loads, the sleep and charge feature will not work. Should I continue to pursue the Toshiba group or just charge the iphone with the small cube charger and forget about connecting it or updating it through this computer? A fix is desired, but if there is none, just a reminder that maybe Toshiba laptop computers do not have enough output current to charge an iPhone.

What you describe is not an Apple or iPhone issue.
Talk to Toshiba.  If you chose to pursue the issue with them, that is up to you.  No one here can tell you what the correct solution is.
Keep in mind, all iPhones ship will a wall plug to permit the device being charged from a wall outlet.

  • IPod not Charging, or Connecting to iTunes when Plugged into the Computer

I cracked the screen a few weeks ago. When I plug it into the computer, it does not charge, and it is not recognized. BUT, if I use the same USB cable, I can charge it using a wall charger.

    You can try here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
However, if you have acces to aonther computer that is know to connect to iPods I would try the other computer first.  The iPod damage may be causing the problem

  • How do I prevent my iPhone 4 from turning off randomly while charging and connected to MacBook Air?

My iPhone 4 randomly powers down while charging via USB to my MacBook Air.  This has happened twice while I was sleeping and always makes for a great morning.  Here's what happens:
I keep my iPhone 4 ON and connect it to my MacBook Air - battery charge level is typically around  20%
I keep my MacBook Air connected to AC power
    I go to sleep
I wake up without my alarm and find my iPhone is now OFF
I turn it on and find the charge level to be at 100%
It seems to only happen when connected to the MacBook Air.  Has anyone else seen this or have a potential remedy to this issue?

Try the power related troubleshooting suggestions in this Apple article -> iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
If that doesn't work, have a Genius take a look at it.

  • My macbook will not charge and turns off completely when I remove the power cable.  can anyone help?

The battery is sitting at 75% and has not moved even though it is plugged into the mains.  It will not switch on unless connected to the power cable and turns straight off when disconnected.  The wee green light is on the cable is on when plugged in so its not the power cable.  Could it be my battery?  the I only bought this two years ago.
    Please help.
