My I tunes is stuck displaying " iTunes is preparing to update the software on this phone" from last 1 hour. I am using iPhone 4S and updating from ios 6.1.2

Reset your phone. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. My iPhone 4 (GSM; AT&T) just had the first major problem that I have ever encountered with my iPhone. While updating my phone to iOS 4.3.2 from an iMac (early 2006; Snow Leopard 10.6.7/iTunes 10.2.1), it hung on the update screen for 30 minutes, locked up, and could not reset or shut down. When I tried to plug the frozen iPhone back into my Mac, it wouldn't connect to iTunes at all - the iPhone was completely frozen.
I also own an iPad, and it updated to iOS 4.3.2 without any issues whatsoever.
Has anyone else experienced this problem when updating their iPhones to iOS 4.3.2?

Yes this happened to me as well.
I went to download the new software today and my iphone4 froze.
I have the white apple on my screen ( when you turn on your phone) it has not gone away. its been almost an hour now.
I pressed the top button and the home button at the same time like apple support said to do. the white apple disappeared and reappeared a few seconds later.
i dont know what to do !!

IPhone 3GS -- Repeatedly freezes while updating to iOS 6

Perfectly working iPhone 3GS initially, then I tried upgrading to iOS 6. It froze at about 55% to 60% (based on the progress bar) and then after awhile it went black. No way to get it back easily. Repeatedly, I hit the two buttons together to reset, sometimes it works and I get the Apple symbol, but it hangs there permanently if I am not connected to the computer and, if I am, with iTunes running, it shows the phone there but won't let me click to "see it". The iPhone then tries again to update, but freezes again at 55% to 60%. There seems to be no way to break this cycle.
Anyone have ideas or suggestions? It appears that the iOS 6 update has killed my iPhone.

As pdroth said, you should have gotten a backup made when you started the update of iOS. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.

I'm having the same problems. Can't even find out if Apple is working on it. Tried to downgrade but is not supported by apple so error 3194 comes up which is verifying with the apple web site. Which then stops everything. I understand you can modify the "hosts" file to by pass the issue, but hate doing that as it gets involved. May try it if I can't get any satisfaction from apple.

I bought the iPhone new and set up by myself. I still remember apple id details. The problem is that while the update was on, I needed to enter my apple id on the phone to complete the update my screen lock has been activated. Now the phone only displays the iTunes logo and the USB cable being inserted. But I can still access my the phone contents through my laptop. I need to force the phone to restart. How can I do that? mind you I have pressed the home and power buttons together for a couple of minutes. It will only display the apple logo for a few seconds and then return to the iTunes and USB cable display. Maybe the phone is hanging. So please help me.

Hi Risdian, thanks for the comments and suggestions, however none seemed to lead to any success. When setting the carrier off automatic, after a few seconds of searching the device returns the message, "Unable to load network list", and I have placed my sim into another unlocked iPhone 5 and it worked perfectly, picking up service almost immediately. I can also iMessage and connect to wifi fine, so i don't fully understand the issue.
I guess my iPhone is in need of repair, so if there are no other conceivable 'at home' fixes, i'll have to bring the phone to the apple store for a diagnosis. Any other suggestions or comments would be happily welcomed
