Iphone 4s no longer playing ringtones

I have an Iphone 4s, I listen to a lot of audio books with my earbuds on. I used to be able to hear the ringtones over the audiobook. Now I hear no ring tones with or without earbuds. The phone only vibrates. How do I get the phone to ring so I can get my incoming calls?

I just solved this so I thought I'd put up how I did it in case someone else has the same problem. I'll also try to put this on other discussions like this one.
I don't know if it will work for you but what I did was plug my iPhone up to my computer, start iTunes, go into my iPhone on iTunes, go into my music, select all my songs, right click, and select New Playlist From Selection. This created a Playlist 1 and it automatically retrieved the songs from my iTunes to create the playlist songs. I then deleted the playlist and now all my songs play fine. (If any still don't play after the first playlist, create a second one made up of the songs that didn't sync.) Hope this helped.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

IPhone music no longer plays in car

I have an iPhone 3GS with iOS4. For some reason (not sure if is since the most recent software update) music will no longer play via my Alpine car system (has connector cable). It displays a message saying the accessory is not compatible, but it always was before, and also my partner's iPhone 3G still plays in the car OK. It works fine as before with headphones or on my home surround sound system just not in the car. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks for the replies - yes, we are going to try resetting the Alpine unit and if this doesn't do it, wait for the next iPhone software update due in the next few days which I'm really hoping will rectify it. Will post again when there is any result.
It is very strange though, it worked fine even after updating to iOS4 months ago, and has only stopped working and displays "Error 01" in the last couple of weeks. I can still make and receive hands free calls via Bluetooth, just can't play music.

Iphone 6 no longer plays music/photos to my Denon Receiver/Sony TV

On my iPhone 4 (still on IOS 7) I was able to play music directly to my Denon AVR. I could also show pictures on my Sony TV.
Last night I tested this with my iPhone 6, not sure if its the phone or IOS 8, but it was unable to do either of these things. The devices simply never showed up in the list of options, I just saw things like email or facebook etc. where normally the connected device list would be below. I had to go back and use my iPhone 4 to share some pictures and music.
Anyone know if this is functionality that I can get back? I'm not sure why it would regress like this from working to not working, but that's something I used fairly often and am hoping I can still do it.

Did everything you suggested. No change. Still charges the Iphone, but will not play music on either the Sony dock station or my other dock station. The fact that the Iphone quit playing music on both dock stations on the same day, makes me wonder if the issue is with the Iphone. Took it to the local Apple store and they say the problem has to be with Sony. With all of the other folks experiencing similar issues, there seems to be intermittent compatibility issues between Iphones and some devices, but Apple says it is not their problem.

IPhone 4 no longer playing music in dock

Hi,
My iPhone 4 has stopped playing music through any of my Apple docks. My friends iPhone 3 plays music through the same docks ok so the problem doesn't lie with them. My iPhone 4 charges in the dock Ok but just doesn't play music. I suspect this could be related to a recent IOS upgrade - I'm currently on 5.1
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution?

So it looks like you have a couple of issues here, let me address them individually. If you have a backup in either iTunes or iCloud, you will want to apply that backup to your iPhone in order to get your contacts back. The article informing you on restoring from your backup can be found here:

As far as the songs go, you will probably want to try deleting all of the songs off of your phone and resyncing them onto your iPhone.

IPhone 4S no longer plays through USB when connected to Ford Mondeo Bluetooth Hands Free System on iOS 5.1 and 5.1.1

Help! Does anyone know how to fix this and still use the Bluetooth? If i turn off the Bluetooth, USB playwork works fine but I need both to work.

Not quite the same problem but my speaker dock no longer charges iPad1 and iPhone4 since upgrading to iOS5.1 but was playing and charging only the day before, extremely annoying as I have only had the dock about 3 weeks now.
I haven't tried my iPad3 yet, but will assume that it will do the same

Iphone 4s no longer plays music in my car!

Last week I lost all my contacts, they disappeared, everything else is in tact. I decided to do the upgrade that itunes asked for on my 4s, now I cant play any songs in my car when I plug my phone into usb. Worked perfectly fine before. Sometimes a song will play a bit and then just quit. The songs work fine when listening on itunes.I also noticed that when syncing a number of songs doubled on my playlists on my phone....any suggestions?

Songs on ipod in my iphone will no longer play in my car since 1.1.3 upgrad

THE RADIO IN MY TRUCK IS IPOD COMPATABLE, IT HAS AN AUDIO VIDEO CABLE THAT COMES OUT OF IT THAT I PLUG INTO MY IPHONE TO PLAY ALL OF THE MUSIC OFF OF MY IPHONE ON MY CAR STEREO. ALTHOUGH THE RADIO IS DESIGNED TO WORK WITH IPOD AND NOT IPHONE, IT HAS ALWAYS WORKED EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE PHONE. NOW THAT I UPGRADED TO THE NEWEST VERSION FOR IPHONE (1.1.3), THE MUSIC WILL NOT PLAY ON MY RADIO ANYMORE. THE PLAY LIST STILL SHOWS UP ON MY RADIO, HOWEVER THERE IS NO SOUND. MY PHONE NOW DISPLAYS A MESSAGE SAYING THAT IT IS ATTACHED TO A DEVICE THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH IPHONE. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE THIS CURRENT SOFTWARE VERSION PLAY MUSIC ON MY CAR RADIO? OR WILL THERE BE A SOFTWARE UPGRADE IN THE NEAR FUTURE THAT WILL REMEDY THIS PROBLEM? I DONT THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO HAVE AN IPOD AND AND IPHONE IF THERE IS ALREADY AN IPOD IN MY IPHONE. i had the same problem after i updated my iphone yesterday. today the phone did not wanna play any songs that i downloaded from i-tunes. the song i copied from my cds worked fine. i connected my laptop to the internet and played some songs from itunes and synchronized my phone after that.
that seemed to have solved the problem. i can play all my song again

My iPhone 4 no longer plays some songs since iOS5 update, how can i get these songs playing again

So ever since I installed iOS5 onto my iPhone 4, some of my music wont play (not all, but some), what will happen is, while on shuffle, my music will play a song normally, then get to a song that it for some reason cannot play and either
a) plays another song, without changing the information about the song, then when the second song is finished playing under the first song's name, it gets to the second song's actual information and stops playing and moves to option b
b) does not play the song, does not skip the song, but has the play icon in the corner next to the battery, but it doesn't show any time going by on the progress bar of the song, but drains my battery
when i shake my iPhone after this (i.e. activates the automatic shuffle) if it happens to land on a song it can play, it skips to the next song.
It is incredibly inconvienient, and i understand that a new operating systems do have bugs, but I would like to be able to fix it as soon as possible

I found a solution recently, (and well, this is the only apple product I own, so i didn't think to post it) basically what you do is follows
when your iphone is plugged in and you have itunes open, go to the phone page, then to the music page, select sync with library, but then select certain playlists. After that select none of the playlists (removing the music from your phone) and sync, then sync again with the playlists you want selected, and voila! Takes an hour or 2, but you can do it in the background of whatever else you are doing.

My iPhone 4s no longer plays any sound

My 4s only plays sounds when I have the headphones plugged in, for the alarm, or when I am recieving a call. I have tried all the tricks thinking it might have been stuck in headphone mode. Inserting and removing headphones, cleaning headphone jack with a q-tip, compressed air.... and finally a factory reset on my phone. NOTHING IS WORKING. Any advice? or do I just need to bring it back into the place of purchase. HEEEELP PLEASE!

Start up a video in the YouTube app. Once the video is playing, tap the screen once. You should see a volume slider appear near the bottom of the screen. Slide it with your finger all the way to the right.

Can no longer play music through headphones

My iPhone will no longer play music (spotify, iTunes, radio, podcast) when using headphones. I recently upgraded to iOS 6.0.1

I would first treat it like a hardware issue, take a cotton swab and remove some of the cotton and stick it in the headphone jack to clear out any pocket lint that might be interfering with the connectivity of the headphones. If you are still having a problem I would contact Apple.

The ringtone I made and have used for years on iPhone 5 no longer works in 8.3

I've been using a ringtone I made years ago on my iPhone 5 and with the latest update in iOS the ringtone no longer plays when a message comes in. I checked it in the options and it plays there but when a message comes in, silence. If this is something Apple no longer supports I would ask why? Are they trying to take all the fun out of our lives. People used to love hearing my ringtone when a message arrived.

Yes it is. It's 3 seconds and in the .m4r format. I used it since I first bought my phone.
One thing I've noticed, not that this has anything to do with it but... I named my phone xxx since I've had it, now when I hook it up to iTunes it shows up as xxx (2). Any idea what this is about?

IPhone not playing ringtone through stereo via bluetooth

With my previous iPhones, including my iPhone 4, when connected to my stereo via bluetooth, my ringtones would play through my car stereo's audio system. Now, when my 4s/IOS 5 is connected, the ringtones no longer play through my system.
Does anyone have any idea if this is a bluetooth 4.0 issue, an IOS 5 issues, or simply a phone setting that I haven't realized?

I have similar issue with added ringtones. With my iPhone 4 (with IOS 5) they played in stereo through the earbuds but now that I changed to the 4s the ringtones play in mono with poor sound. I don't think it has anything to do with bluetooth since my problem is with the earbuds.
I think it's a difference between the 4 and the 4s. I'm not pleased and hope they fix this.

Ringtones, text ringtones, sound effects no longer play.

My 16gb Iphone 3GS will no longer play a ringtone if someone is calling, will no longer play the text-message sound effect and also no-longer make the sound effect if I lock the screen.
The volume is as high as it will go and the ringtone is selected under settings. Vibrate is on. What could be the problem?

It'll actually play the ringtone in with the headphones in, but otherwise, you can not hear it. The phone isn't in headphone mode without the headphones in, the Ipod and ringtone previews sound fine and clear out of the speaker.
It just doesn't play the text or call ringtone any more.
