IPhone 4s no longer streams via USB in 2010 Honda

Previously with my iphone 4, I could connect to the USB port in my 2010 Honda Civic and also to the Auxiliary jack via a retractable auxiliary cable.  The phone was positioned at dash height and I could stream music over the 6 car speaksers from Pandora, AOL radio, Public Radio apps, and others while at the same time running the GPS program.  The music would dim whent the GSP would make an announcement or when I received an incoming call and life was good.
Yesterday I noticed with my new iphone 4S, that when I plugged into the USB jack and auxiliary jacks, these audio apps would NOT stream.  The music would play for a second or so and then stop.  iTunes radio worked fine, but with the other apps - nothing.  I stopped the GSP app, I rebooted the phone, I checked the connections - all without success.  Then, only when I got home, and I unplugged the 4s from the USB jack, did the music stream again.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the USB wiring in the Honda (where hitting the aux. button switches between playing and displaying the ipod music and the auxiliary jack)?  I'm considering buying a USB charger via the cigarette lighter to charge the telephone instead of using the built in charger.  At home all the apps stream fine when connected to the computer's USB or the USB charger. Are there any other solutions or suggestions to be able to stream music via the built in USB charger?  I don't know what is at fault - the 4S, iOS 5.01 or the Honda USB cable connection?  Thank you.

maybe try cleaning out the port at the bottom of your iphone by blowing it out with compressed air or maybe by using a soft brush. or maybe gently with a toothpick. but nothing metal. perhaps there's dirt or dust in there that's preventing a connection. similarly make sure the connectors on your docks and cables are clean.

When trying to update ITunes on my pc using Iphone 4 verizon personal hotspot via usb connection the download fails.

I called this problem into Apple and they solved it for me.  The problem is in the downloader associated with iTunes.  Skip that step and go to Apple.com and download the new iTunes softwere update (Version 11.1) directly.  I did this and installed it successfully.  After restarting the computer iTunes recognized my phone and all was well.  Then I updated and installed the ios7 update without any problems.  No charge.  Full cudo's to Apple!

  • Can't access iPhone 4 under My Computer via usb connection outside of iTunes

I have an 8 GB iPhone 4, which replaced a 16GB one that fell from the docking station last Christmas and won't come back on. I have avoided syncing the new one with iTunes since getting it because I don't want to lose all of the pictures I had on the old one, but now I can no longer access my pictures through "My Computer" when I hook my phone up via USB. When I turned on iTunes (for the first time since August of last year apparently), it says "Would you like to set up this iPhone as a new phone or restore all of your information from a previous backup?" I don't want to do EITHER. I want to access my pictures WITHOUT using an extremely time consuming third party app or getting rid of any of the previous or new existing pictures and other media. I have over 1,500 pictures on my 8GB phone and it isn't functioning very well. I need to get these off and onto my computer, and I'm quickly losing my patience. Please help.

Log your iPhone and your computer into the iCloud.
All your pictures will be sent automaticly into your photo stream.
Then you can just pluck them out on your computer.

  • IPhone 5 contacts local sync via usb doesn't work - updated

    Syncing an iPhone 5, AT&T 64GB, with Macbook Air 11" mid-2011, 1.8GHz / 4GB.
    OS X 10.10.2; iTunes 12.1.0.50; iOS 8.1.3.
I am trying to sync my contacts from my OS X Contacts App to my iPhone 5 via USB. The contacts do not sync. The contacts are local, "on my mac". I am using a usb cable through iTunes.
The iPhone 5 was just restored by Apple Configurator, set up as new iPhone, and is supervised by the MacBook Air.
I am also synchronizing my local Calendars from the OS X Calendar app; these transfer just fine. This makes me think it is probably not to do with the entire setup of the iPhone, i.e. that it is managed by apple configurator, since some of the sync works correctly.
Under "info" in the iTunes sync dialog, I have selected the "sync contacts" and "all contacts" and "sync calendars" and "all calendars" options.
Interestingly, while the Calendars sync options displays options of "selected calendars" and a list of my calendars available to sync, the Contacts section "selected groups" is grayed out. I have one group in Contacts, and it does not show up by name for "selected groups". Instead, the area where groups should be listed for selection is empty. Perhaps iTunes does not have access to my local contacts? It is not listed under apps with access to my contacts under security and privacy, and it has not requested access to my contacts.
I created a fake contact on the phone and synced it with iTunes. I then turned off contact syncing in iTunes and told it to remove previously synced contacts. The fake contact disappeared. When I turned contact syncing on again, the contact was again pushed to the phone. However, the fake contact did not appear at any point in the OS X Contacts App, and none of my OS X Contacts appeared on my phone -- only the fake contact I had created on my phone and then synced with iTunes.
I also created a (different) fake contact in OS X Contacts. iTunes sync did not transfer this contact (or any others) from OS X Contacts to iPhone.
    SUMMARY:
    - syncing iPhone 5 via USB with iTunes
    - Calendar sync works
    - Contacts sync doesn't work
    - iTunes appears to have no communication with the OS X Contacts app; in system prefs > security and privacy > privacy > contacts, Pages and Word have access to Contacts, but iTunes is not listed. iTunes Contacts sync "selected groups" does not display my OS X Contacts group names.
    - Contacts created on iPhone sync back to iTunes and are restored back to the iPhone if deleted and resynced.
    - Contacts created on iPhone do not sync back to OS X Contacts; Contacts in OS X Contacts do not sync to iPhone.
(apologies for premature posting to "Using iPhone"; I accidentally submitted and now can't delete or edit).

Here's the resolution: I went to my local Apple store and spoke to the guy. After some discussion it turned out that one of the staff had had a similar problem. He suggested this course and I can report that it seems to work. So, (1) open your system preferences and then the print & fax setting and delete the printer in question (2) disconnect the USB between the printer and the TimeCapsule (3) shut everything down and turn off power to your modem, your TimeCapsule and your whole system (4) power on each item in its normal sequence (5) wait for your iMac to complete its boot-up, (6) re-connect the USB between the printer and the TimeCapsule (7) open system preferences and search for and install the relevant printer (8) try printing.
This is hardly elegant, but it worked. I am told (by the same Apple store) that hitting the "reset" button in the TimeCapsule might also work. If this is intuitive or obvious to anyone else then my compliments to them ...
    Cheers

  • TS2756 I can no longer connect via USB/service missing

..& my iPhone does not show up on the list anymore.  I can still use Wi-Fi, though.  I would like to be able to use the USB connection again.  Resetting the network settings doesn't help.  BTW, I'm using it with my MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 and my iPhone has the latest iOS update as well.
When I first got the phone, I always used my internet connection via USB, but then it started giving me trouble.  I tried all kinds of suggestions that I found here and it was a real crap shoot -- sometimes it worked, and sometimes not.  Now it just won't work at all.  I recently deleted my iPhone from the list of services thinking that the next time I plugged it in, it would recreated the service.  It did not.  So, I'm still using it as before: just connecting over Wi-Fi (the network is still available, it just doesn't show up in my list of services on the left-hand column under "network").
Anyone have any suggestions that they know will fix this?

Hi DaveX83 and welcome to the discussions.
    A few things to try.
Press the reset button once on the back of your Extreme and let it restart. Check for proper operation.
If no help there, keep the ethernet cable connected, and open Airport Utility. Click on Manual Setup near the bottom of the pane. On the next screen click the Airport icon at the upper left of the pane, then click Wireless in the line just below that reads Summary - Time Capsule - Wireless - Access.
Check to see that your wireless is set up, security set up, passwords, etc. You may need to reconfigure your wireless settings again and update the Extreme to store them and restart.
    Hope this helps.

  • Imac no longer charging via usb

    27" iMac Intel Core i5 OS X (10.6.7)
So plugged in the ipod (via usb to the back of the imac) and left it to charge overnight. The next morning I notice it is not showing up in Itunes, and lo and behold has not charged a lick! So I thought it was the ipod, and that since the charge was so low, it would not show up in iTunes. But after plugging it in to charge at the outlet, it charged without a problem!
Now, set up the iphone to charge overnight (same usb port, I never remove the cable since it is such a pain to reach those usb ports! :/
and sure enough, after taking a look at itunes this morning I see it is not there, and looking at the device, it isnt even showing it has charged, nor does it show the icon that it is charging.
I am waiting for Pacific time to hi 6 AM before I call it in (under warranty) but I thought I would give a shout out there and see if anyone else has similar problems, although I have already looked it up and see a couple people have had the same problem, and had no luck getting it resolved....
I will post my solution, but I think there has to be something wrong with the port.
Had no problems since buying the the system approx. 4 months ago.....

Just tried another port at the back, and it immediately started charging and the device shows in iTunes....
So it has to be a bad port. Maybe because I left it plugged in??

  • Iphone 4 won't play via USB in car after ios7 upgrade

Music will not play via USB or Bluetooth. I own 2013 Toyota Corolla. When I plug via USB my car audio display lets me select folders and music through browse but when I select a song I get an error on the car audio display that says "read manual or contact dealership for information on how to connect". This did not happen prior to ios 7 update on my iPhone 4. Anyone else experiencing this and is there a solution or setting that I am missing?

Hi I have a 2012 Volvo V50 with premium audio. USB audio via 4S worked fine until the IOS 7 upgrade. Now i keep getting the "this accessory is not supported message"
I have read through this forum and the only thing apple suggests is "update your car oudio system"
This is total BS!  Ever heard of backward compatibility? Get this fixed or Android is next for me! Apples resoponse so far shows absolute arrogance.
I am not the only one and a simple search shows thousands of people having the same issues. Asked my car dealer already and they have loads of people with the same issues. Only devices with issues are Iphones and Ipods since the IOS 7 upgrade. Reset as suggested does not work.

  • IPhone 5 not connecting hotspot via USB to Macbook after upgrade to IOS 7.

My Macbook can only get internet hotspot net through wifi or bluetooth but unable to connect via USB and this happen after upgrade to IOS 7.0.2

You do not want to try to sync photos back from a computer that you do not sync with. That will erase everything from the phone. The pictures you downloaded to the computer do not go back to the camera roll. They are part of the iTunes sync process now. Take and put them on a CD or flash drive, put them on the computer at home and then sync them back via the photo tab in iTunes.

  • Streaming via USB or Firewire

This is more of a poll than a real question.
I'm looking into buying a new external HD. I'm wandering which one streams better, USB or Firewire. I've tried both USB and Firewire. I've noticed that Firewire seems to do a little better than USB.
    What do you think?
    Thanks

As you seem to have noticed firewire is the fastest interface whether it be FW 400 or FW 800, USB is technically 480 mbps but you are unlikely to achieve anywhere near this and I would generally expect USB to be around 15% slower than FW 400.
However that being said I've noticed (not sure if this is generally the case) that firewire drives seem to run considerably hotter than USB and therefore suspect they may have a shorter life span, firewire drives are of course less common and seem slightly more expensive.
Personally I prefer the multi interface drives and on occasions when I've had firewire issues they have proved to be worth their weight in gold when I've been able to continue using them by switching them to a USB port.

  • Why can i no longer sync via USB after I restore my iPhone?

I was having so many problems syncing my iPhone with my new IMac that I bought this year, I decided to restore my iPhone.  Then iCloud did not restore my phone despite paying money for that. Then iTunes does not give me a summary. Instead it gives me a white screen with a silver apple, a locked lock, and a long oval.  Is this apple's way of forcing me to get the new Mountain Lion operating system?  I've been on the phone with apple for almost a half hour and no one can tell me what is wrong.

This happened ever since google dropped support for exchange. There is a work around.
    go to settings
    then mail contacts and calendars.
    Add account
    select other
    select under calendars.......add caldav account
    then goes as follows
    server: m.google.com
    username: full email
    password: your pass duh!
    description: whatever you want!!!
    cheers dude!

  • Iphone 5 does not charge via USB laptop in sleep

I hook my iPhone 5 up to my Lenovo G570 laptop. When the laptop is not sleeping, the iPhone charges just fine.
When the laptop sleeps, the iPhone no longer charges.
BUT.... The USB port on the laptop powers and charges other USB devices just fine, even when asleep.
ONLY the iPhone 5 stops charging when the laptop sleeps.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
(When I travel, its nice to be able to charge my iPhone *without* having to actually wake up the laptop)

wjosten wrote: Well, the fact is your computer must be turned on & not in sleep mode to charge your phone. Read here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
    Thanks
Connect the device directly to a USB port on your computer (not an external keyboard) using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode; otherwise, the battery may drain instead of charge. If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to power and that the display (or lid) is open. If the display is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and the device may not charge.
*** Unless you have a Chinese iPhone. They DO charge when laptops are asleep, apparently. Go figure.

  • Updated my iTunes, iPhone will no longer connect. USB Cord is new, and laptop is new too. iTunes on my Work PC is not updated and connects fine to iPhone. What's Wrong?

I need advice on this. I have looked at most communities and almost none answer my questions, I have restarted my computer a billion times and I have a brand new USB Cord, the only thing I have done is updated iTunes. (FYI:I have an iPhone 4, works fine, only thing is it won't connect to my computer anymore) And like I said, my work PC has a un-updated version of iTunes on it and my iPhone connects fine, maybe iTunes software is problem?

    The following may help:
