IPhone 4S no longer will send or receive texts or calls even though it shows I'm connected to my Sprint Server.

Hello everyone, I'm in need of some major help with my IPhone 4S. I'm very confused and frusterated! My friend had originally purchased two IPhone 4S phones about two years ago. I know this because he decided to give me his second IPhone 4S that was no longer being used by the person who had it before, since I didn't have a phone and he had it on a two year contract. That two year contract ended months ago and he renewed it for another two years. Everything had been working pretty well except crappy reception at my house every now and then, since I live in the middle of nowhere. But where my problem comes in is, for the past few days I haven't been able to send or recieve texts or calls at all. It just keeps saying failed to send when I try to send a text, and it won't receive any texts. When I try to make a call, it goes to a couple different weird recording things trying to ask what type of call I'm making, or saying the connection can't be made. I can't recieve calls at all. I have no idea why this happened, it was really random, and I'm very frusterated. It always shows my phone having two or three bars and service, more than enough to do these things, but for some reason it's ike it's become disconnected. This type of thing happened a few weeks ago, but only for a few hours and then I started getting all my texts and whatnot and it went back to normal. But now it's lasted almost a week. I have Sprint and even when it shows me having 3G service and all bars, it won't send or recieve calls or texts. I tried resetting network settings, and that didn't change or fix anything. I've also tried shutting it off and turning it back on multiple times and the whole airplane mode on and off thing and NOTHING is working. If any of you could help, or offer suggestions, that'd be awesome. Much appreciated!

I'll have to use somebody else's phone for the call, but I was thinking maybe that's my last option. :/ Thanks!

Have you tried the SIM in a different phone?
Also have you tried a network reset?
Note: Resetting the network settings will clear all WiFi passwords and refresh device network connections.
From the home screen, tap Settings.
Scroll down to, then tap General.
Scroll down to, then tap Reset.
Tap Reset Network Settings.
Tap Reset Network Settings to confirm.
Note: If a security code is enabled, this will need to be entered between steps 4 and 5.

My new iphone 5c will not use my home wifi even though it shows I am connected in my settings. I was able to use my home wifi from my old phone with older software. How do I use my wifi from home. The home screen does not indicate I am connected to wifi. Thanks

Restart your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds.
Use Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone 5c.
Attempt to connect.
If you are still having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPhone. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPhone on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPhone does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPhone is bad.

Thanks but I don't think Sprint is the problem. We have house guests and they all have iPhones, 3 on Sprint, one is a 5 and none of them are having issues. And when I Googled the problem I saw folks from Verizon, Sprint and AT&T all talking about the smae issue...

Just switched from android to iPhone. I'm having trouble sending and receiving texts. I'm getting msg failed icon. I use a sprint AIRRAVE to maintain a strong signal in my home.Is anyone out there having the same sprint network issues? Thanks

Yes ! I was having the same problem. just trun off the AIRRAVE, then use text..it will work fine.

My iPhone 4 has all the latest software in it. It will not send or receive texts. When trying to send a text it says not delivered .It was working and then just stopped. I did a reset on the phone but it didn't seem to help me.

My iphone 4 will not send and receive text messages at random times. My brother has the same phone, lives in the same home and doesn't have this problem. I can't receive messages without my iphone displaying a message asking for my phone number at random times. It happens intermittently. Does anyone know why this happens? I am referring to regula text messages not imessages. I have turned it off and also updated to the most recent software. thanks

I've been an AT&T customer since they were under different names in the 90s and have never heard/seen that. I would check with them. I'd really like to see that error. To get a screenshot on the phone, press the home button and sleep/wake button together quickly and release. You will see the screen flash slightly and hear the camera shutter noise.

Unable to send or receive text from another iphone after updating ver 7.02

Before updating ver 7.02 I was able to send and receive text to any cell phone. After updating to ver 7.02 can no longer send nor receive any text from any iphone 4 or iphone 5. Can send and receive to/from an old iphone 3 and to any non-iphone but not iphone 4 or 5. Tried updating iTunes then restore phone from backup, no change. Deleted apps that were no longer being used and transferred all my pictures on phone to a folder on computer then deleted then out of iTunes. Tried restoring again, once again no change.
Not having any idea what else to try, went to AT&T store for help. Pretty much got a shrug of the shoulders with the response of yep, a lot of texting problems after 7.02 update. No help at all.
Anybody else have or had this issue? If yes, what did you find causing the problem?

Thanks for the response. I tried so many things forgot to list that I did try turning off iMessage, reset network and turned network back on- no change. Also forgot to mention it's my wife's phone, I'm more old school. If I need to talk to somebody, I just call since I already have a phone in my hand. That's my solution to the problem but she doesn't think so. LOL. Also tried hard restarting several times, didn't make any difference. I am still fiddling around with it, if I come up with anything I will post it.

As the title indicates: After upgrading to iOS7, I can no longer send or receive texts that aren't iMessages.
The text conversations are still there; you can see that I used to be able to text anyone. But now I cannot.
I have followed several different fixes suggested in these forums, I have Restored my phone, I have Reset Network Settings, I have Reset All Settings, I have checked settings on several friend's phones. But I still cannot send or receive texts that are not iMessage texts.
This seems like a pretty big deal. People text more than they call. And I now have a phone that cannot text very many people.
It is so frustrating. I have spent so much time trying to get it to work.

I don't know if this is a corrupted preference file or not, but it sure can't hurt to try this.
If Mail is open, Quit Mail.
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Drag that .plist file to the Desktop. Launch Mail and see if you can send or receive e-mail. If you can, that .plist file is corrupted. Drag it to the trash, empty the trash and reboot. Your Mac will create a new preference file for you the next time you launch Mail.
Also... run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, click Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

What's Wrong With My iPhone 4? Sometimes I Can't Make or Receive Calls and I Also Can't Send or Receive Texts!

Recently, I've been having issues with my iPhone 4.
A few weeks ago, out of the blue, I could not send or receive texts, and I couldn't make or receive calls. If I tried to send a text, the little bar will go almost all the way to the end and just hang there for something absured like over half an hour. Then it tells me that it failed to send. When I try to call someone when I suffer from this problem, there's no dial tone, no noise. When I try to hang up, it just says "Hanging up..." and if I go out of the Phone, it says up the top "touch ti resume call" when I'm trying to hang up. If I touch to resume call, it's like I didn't hang up.
Then, out of no-where, it suddenly fixed itself. I thought, "Great! Something like that surely couldn't happen again!"
And it did again, just a few minutes ago. And subsequently fixed itself, albiet faster than last time.
How can I avoid this problem in the future? Do I need have my iPhone 4 repaired? Do I need to tell you guys more information?

I believe the root cause is IOS5.01. same problem on my iphone4s with IOS5.01. Now I have a expensive I-touch! wake up steve.............. I suggest you change your sim cark from 64k to 128k. or just waiting next generation IOS.

Under Settings - Messages, do it state Sens SMS ON? Should be (this applies to imessage but just in case).
Same area, MMS Messaging is on? Should be.
If all else fails, go into Settings General Reset - Reset Network Settings (this will lose WiFi info but fixes a lot of messaging errors).

it's a software issue... a lot of customers are having all kinds of issues with their new iPhone 4. But, don't be dismayed, there may be a way to fix it.
some ideas is trying going to settings -> general -> rest -> then tap on "Rest Network Settings". This will then rest all the of network settings, and hopefully fix transmitting and recieving issues that you may have with your iPhone.

Verizon iPhone 5 not sending or receiving texts. iMessage worked for a day then stopped or messages were severely delayed.

New iPhone 5 on Verizon will not send or receive texts. In the beginning iMessage worked for about a day and then messages started to be delayed by hours. Eventually even these messages were not being sent. Reset network settings followed by a soft re-boot land still no change. Any ideas?

For iMessage problems, try this:
- Sign out of iMessage
- Reset your network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- Sign back in to iMessage
