IPhone 4S "No Service" for hours...

I just got my iPhone 4S today and I put my iPhone 4 SIM card in it so that I could jump right in to using my new phone. To my bewilderment the phone would not pick up any service whatsoever for over an hour. So I began researching things on the internet to fix it. I have made sure all firmware is up to date, I have the latest version of iTunes, and I have rebooted the phone, reset the phone, set it up as a new phone, reset network settings, and everything else I can think of and everything I have seen on the web that has worked for others. The only thing I have not done is replaced the SIM card with a new one. Are there any other tips or fixes that I can try before I make a trip to the AT&T or Apple stores as they are highly inconvenient trips to make for me?

  • Iphone 3gs will Sync for hours without finishing

    I wanted to install the 4.0 OS on my 3Gs and itunes prompted me to upgrade to the newest version. I did and then went to upgrade the iphone. It wants to perform a back up first. The phones LCD will stay on saying it is Sync'ing and Itunes says the same. Last night after over 3.5 hours it was still sync'ing. Neither Itunes nor the phone were frozen and I get no error messages except when I finally unplugged the phone; the error message popped right up saying that I unplugged it.
    Anyone have an idea of what is wrong?

    I had an iPhone 3GS with long sync time. My observation was; once it can complete a long sync, it could complete next sync in short time. The next sync must also take place same day or next day. Your applications should not have too many changes.
    My iPhone 3GS died yesterday during iOS 4.0.1. upgrade. It synced for 3 hours for the last time, then gave an error message. That was about it.

    For the old "Phone in rice trick" to work, it should sit for many days not hours. By applying electrical current to a wet electronic system, you have fried some of the components. It is not repairable, You will need a replacement iphone. Sorry

    I was just wondering if anybody had any information about Apple's Push Service for developers. They originally said it would be available in September but I have heard nothing of it. Maybe after the MobileMe troubles, which I experienced none of, they want to wait until it is perfect.
    This service, in my opinion, will complete the iPhone and the App Store.

  • Been without any phone service for over 8 hours

    There is no way to report the outage online as the diagnostic does not show anything.  All of Chihuahua Valley in Warner Springs, California has not had phone service for over 8 hours and Verizon will not admit a problem despite numerous phone calls from friends who are outside the community and have phone service.  One of the neighbours was told there are no reports of an outage and was told that she could make an appointment for a tech to come out on the 15th!!!!!  Well if anyone at Verizon is reading this then get off your **bleep** and get this fixed.   951 767

    if u unplug then that could put ur device into recovery mode. i would wait

  • Why is my iPad not able to download mail for hours at a time while the iPhone next to it has no problem?

    Why is my iPad not able to download mail when the iPhone next to it can and the iPad may be able to do it 24 hours later with no change in settings?  This happens with multiple email accounts at the same time in several locations on many occasions.  The setting is to check emails every 15 minutes.   It says it is checking but nothing comes up while it does on my Mac or iPhone

    I have exactly the same problem here.
    Can see new email appearing straight away on the iPhone and Windows pc, but very erratic on the iPad.  Sometimes the emails appear immediately on the iPad, other times they don't appear for hours. 
    One thing I have noticed if I go and change the "delete messages - remove" setting to something other than what it was set (for instance from "never" to "one month") it seems to jiggle something and the outstanding emails all suddenly appear.

    Other than what Shotist007's remarks (which solves nothing) your experience is not common. First I would speak to the store manager to get things rectified for you. If that doesn't work out then I would contact AppleCare and speak to a customer service representative and complain via that venue.

    Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time of holding both buttons. Click the Update or Restore button that iTunes offers.

    I have an iphone5 which its proximity sensor does not work. In Australia I went to Melbourne Apple Center and after inspection they want to replace it with a new one, but after seeing its part number (including LL/A), they refuse to replace it because it is not an Australian iphone. It should be noted that I also have an applecare service for my iphone. Now I am really confused what I shall do for this case. I cannot go to USA at the moment and I need my iphone which now it's really useless for calling when I do not want to use handsfree. My current apple support case number is 426298085 and I have D87469214, 426306629 and D87468601 apple service request numbers which have been canceled due to the mentioned reason.
    More easy and better customer services are really expected from apple. I am one of your loyal customer who is sad of your bad services in this case. Please guide me how could I replace my phone at the earliest possible time.

    Haha. Known issue maybe means there are several numbers of replacement for this reason. A quick internet search shows such a thing...
