IPhone 4s not recognised by Macbook Pro 13' retina

I have owned the iPhone 4s for over 2 years, and used to sync with my Dell computer without any trouble.
Last week I purchased the new Macbook retina.
Whenevver I connect the iPhone to the mac, it gets recoginzed and de-recognized within a second, this goes on non-stop till I unplug the phone, hence it keeps on vibrating, and iTunes keeps saying that 'device can no longer be located'. I am not able to connect and sync my phone to my new computer.
I read through pages and pages of discussions on various forums, tried re-installing iTunes, also followed all the other standard recommendations of deleting some system files etc.
Nothing seems to help, please throw some light on this.

Try using a different USB port on the Mac first, if not then I'd suggest bringing both into the Apple store and have them look at it.

    Hey mikedignam,
To start off troubleshooting your devices not appearing on your Mac, begin with the steps in the appropriate troubleshooting assistant below:
    iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
    iPad Troubleshooting Assistant
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/itunes/
If the issue persists after following along with the troubleshooting assistants, continue with the steps below:
Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. iTunes 10 and later requires Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later.
Update to the latest version of iTunes and Install software updates on your Mac.
Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you are not sure if your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications. Disconnect other USB devices, and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.
Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier only: Reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service.
    Additional Information
In rare circumstances, your device may be recognized after reinstalling iTunes, but after you restart your Mac, the device may not be recognized again. If this happens, and you are using Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard), please follow the steps in this article.

  • Iphone 4s not recognised by macbook pro

Hi - when i plug in my iphone 4s to my macbook pro a box pops up saying "no camera found" and doesn't show up in finder.  The only way i can "open" my phone is through itunes but through this i cant look at photos or download them.  When i plug in my iphone to my work laptop it pops up in windows explorer.  Do i need to change a setting so i can see the iphone through finder?

It's not supposed to show in the Finder. If you have photos in your Camera Roll you can set iPhoto or Image Capture to launch. iTunes should launch so you can synch the phone. That's what supposed to happen. If you need help with your iPhone post in the iPhone forum.

  • IPhone 4S not recognized by MacBook Pro

    Mac OS X Lion - Version 10.7.4
    iPhone 4S
Tried troubleshooting all over the internet on this one and have finally given up after countless attempts. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
So my iPhone 4S works fine with one exception, it will not take a charge or sync on my MacBook Pro anymore. Not sure what I did (or what update did it) but I'd like to fix the issue if possible.
I have an iPod shuffle, iTouch and iPad 2, all of which sync fine on the MacBook Pro.
The iPhone 4S charges in my car, through all wall outlets and is set up on iCloud and syncs fine with iPhoto, iCal, and any purchases made on iTunes. The big reason I need to get this fixed is to move the videos I have on my iPhone onto my MacBook.
I've tried different cords, restarting both the MacBook Pro and iPhone, resetting the iPhone etc. etc.
I'm at a loss other than taking the iPhone and MacBook into an Apple store. I feel like I've read countless threads on this same issue but no real fixes.
    Does anyone have a solution?

Thought I would add a quick update.
I tried plugging my iPhone 4S into a different MacBook Pro and no response there either.
Safe to assume it's the phone at this point???
Think I may just take it to the Apple Store if nobody has any ideas.

  • IPhone 4s not recognized by MacBook Pro nor iTunes

I am currently running iOS 6.0.1 on my iPhone 4s and OS X 10.9.4 on my MacBook Pro Retina Late 2012. I recently reformatted my computer by means of a bootable OSX installer and I did a completely clean install. For some reason, my iPhone is able to charge, but not recognized by my computer nor iTunes at all. Nothing comes up.
I have followed the directions in the following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US
    and
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24169239#24169239#24169239
Neither solution seems to be working. I have done the following:
    reinstalled my iTunes multiple times
reset my networking on my iPhone a few times
    restarted my computer
    updated all my software
checked to make sure USB cables work
    tried multiple iPhone charging cables
I'd greatly appreciate some guidance in regards to this. Thanks!

When you say a bootable OS X installer where did you get the installer?  Is it one you created yourself?
You might want to try restarting the MacBook Air holding the Command and R keys.  From Utilities on the menu bar, choose Install Mac OS X.  That will reinstall using an installer from Apple.  Install and see if that changes the behavior.
I did the following from this website:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html
    Option 1: Use createinstallmedia
Hidden inside the Mavericks installer is a Unix program calledcreateinstallmedia, provided by Apple for creating a bootable Mavericks installer. If you’re comfortable using Terminal, it’s a relatively simple tool to use. The program assumes your account has administrator privileges.
Note: This method does not work in Snow Leopard. It works only in Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks. (The resulting installer drive will let you install Mavericks over Snow Leopard, but you can’t create the installer drive while booted into Snow Leopard.) If you need to create a Mavericks install drive while booted into Snow Leopard, you should use the Disk Utility instructions, below.
Download the Mavericks installer from the Mac App Store and make sure it’s in your main Applications folder. (This means that if you followed my advice to move the installer out of your Applications folder, you’ll have to move it back, at least temporarily. The Terminal command I’m using here assumes the installer is in its default location.)
Connect to your Mac a properly formatted 8GB (or larger) drive. Rename the drive to Untitled. (The Terminal command used here assumes the drive is named Untitled.)
    Select the text of this Terminal command and copy it:sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
    Launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities).
Paste the copied command into Terminal and press Return. Warning: This step will erase the destination drive or partition, so make sure it doesn’t contain any valuable data.
Enter your admin-level account password when prompted.
The Terminal window displays the progress of the process, in a very Terminal sort of way, by displaying a textual representation of a progress bar: Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%...20%... and so on. The program then tells you it’s copying the installer files, making the disk bootable, and copying boot files. Wait until you see the text Copy Complete. Done. (see the screenshot below), which could take as long as 20 or 30 minutes, depending on how fast your Mac can copy data to your destination drive.
You now have a bootable Mavericks-install drive.

  • Hard Drive not recognised inside MacBook Pro, however works in enclosure...

    And my question is... WHY?!
Basically, my Macbook Pro took a bit of a knock on the hard drive side. Coincidentally, as it was on at the time, (Whoops!), it stopped responding and the colour wheel of death was apparent. I restarted with option held pressed down, so that I can see if the Hard Disk is still being read/recognised. After doing this a couple of times, I noticed that the Hard Disk was becoming intermittent in its ability to being read. I have also used Disk Utility and Disk Warrior and have been getting the same symptoms. I diagnosed, (more of an assumption than anything), that the Hard Disk is broken and I need another one. No biggy! I have a Time Machine drive, which had just that moment finished backing-up! =) Nice!
Anyway, I got a new hard drive (Toshiba 250 GB MK2552GSX Model no.), put it in my Macbook Pro and it, again, is intermittent, therefore fully disproving my theory that it was the Hard Disk itself. (Seeing as it can be read easily in the enclosure.)
Possibly the connector/the logic board it connects to?? I don't know, there's something broken inside my laptop, but just in case somebody out there has a solution, I'd be VERY grateful as it's my laptop I use for my university studies.
    Thanks!

Does your old drive work in your external enclosure?
The reason I ask is because I've had this problem, but it happened after I replaced the Hard Drive in my Early 08 MBP (MacBook Pro 4,1). Turns out, the i/o cable, where it attaches to the logic board, gets worn/brittle from heat and very easy to damage. The repair at the genius bar ran about $20 for the cable, but I had a generous genius who waived the standard labor fee after I gave him my sad story, so your milage may vary.
I should also note that the Hard Drive on that generation of MacBook Pro is not considered user upgradable, and your swap will negate your Apple Care, if you have it, until all the damaged components are replaced.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhone 4 not synching with MacBook Pro contacts or calendar

    Hi there,
My issue is that my iPhone 4 is not synching with my MacBook Pro which is running Snow Leopard (I haven't upgraded to Mountain Lion yet as judging by the reviews there's a split in how successful it is).
The latest information is on my iPhone, both contacts and calendar, however under iTunes (the latest update v11) it does not give me the option box to 'check' and sync these menu's. Any ideas anyone - this is issue is not only baffling but annoying as ****.
Any ideas of feedback would be greatl

    Doh! Got it working....
Helps to use the "search" function better. I read another thread where someone was having the same problem and a suggestion was to ensure that he was using the same cable that came with his iPhone...sure enough! That was my problem. My wife has an iPod and somehow we mixed up our wires.
I swapped cables with her and boom! The synch function is back at work.

  • IPhone 5 not charging in MacBook Pro

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1 and a MacBook Pro of latest 2013 running OS X Yosemite. The problem is that today I plugged my iphone to my Mac and nothing happened. It wasnt detected nor it started charging. I though the problem was the cable and I plugged it in the wall and it charged perfectly, then tried again in the Mac and nothing happened. Then I tried with my girlfriends iPhone 4S in my Mac and it detected it perfectly and started charging...is freaking weird
So now I dont know if the problem is my Mac or my iPhone 5....I tried restarting both but nothing happened...I restarted the iphone holding both home and power buttons and still doesnt work...Before going to Apple I would like to get some help here please
    Thanks in advance

Nop my problem is definitely weird!!!. My iPhone 5 charges anywhere with the cable I always use (the original one), in the wall and in a pc. When I plug it to my Mac book Pro it does not even detect it, and I tried again my gf's iPhone 4S and my Mac detects and charges it perfectly...so basically the problem is only between my iPhone 5 and my Mac...I believe there might be an option that is enabled somewhere to not detect this iPhone???...it was ok a few days ago!! :@

  • CD's not recognised on Macbook Pro

When I put a CD in my Macbook Pro (it is about 1.5 yrs old) the Mac does not recognise it is there, so will not let me eject it. The only way to get it out is to restart, then it is OK - which is a real pain. Any suggestions?

I've been experiencing the same thing recently. It's not a hardware issue because it does recognize some cd's and dvd's. I"m told by Apple Care that it is the quality or format of the cd but this is a brand new problem. I've used other burned cd's in the past with no problem. In addition, the cd's in question are read on my friends newer MacBook. Again, I was told it's not a software issue. So why would it work on Leopard? I'm not satisfied with this answer. I recently purchased blank cd-rs and my macbook pro spits them out. Is it possible that all cd's made now are no longer compatible with MacBook Pro?

  • IPhone Camera not recognized by MacBook Pro

My camera is neither being recognized by Image Capture, nor by iPhoto.
This was working fine (iPhoto auto-launching to download the camera roll) before my vacation, and now I have 1000+ pictures on my iPhone that I want to download.
During my vacation I changed timezones, used airplane mode, etc.
Is there any way to get all of these photos off my iPhone without wiping the entire thing?
The whole phone still works properly, it still takes photos (I'm up to 1094 now).
Thus far I've tried rebooting everything, turning the iPhone off for a while, letting it be plugged into my laptop over night... Nothing works so far.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

When I plug in the iPhone, I get the following in the console.log:
    Jul 23 10:59:19 Crainte kernel[0]: USBF: 3331.256 AppleUSBEHCI[0x3839000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 253, timing out!

Perhaps the camera device is timing out somehow...
I'm going to drive out to an Apple store to see if they can download the photos for me... and then maybe try a restore...

  • FaceTime works on iPhone, but not on my Macbook Pro.

    Lauretta, hi

"Today, I had to turn off my iPhone in order to do a facetime session between the Facetime app on my MacBook Pro and the Facetime app on my son's iPad mini using his email address because when the phone was on and sitting next to the laptop it kept killing the Facetime connection.  TURN IT OFF!  Can you believe?  Can anyone else out there duplicate this condition?"

  • Brand new WD My Passport not recognised by MacBook pro

I just bought a new My Passport 1T external harddrive, but when i tried to connect it to my Macbook Pro my Mac couldn't recognize it. It had not been connected to any other PC or Mac before.
I then tried to connect My Passport to my friends Macbook Air and that worked perfectly. There is nothing wrong with my USBports,  i tried connecting several flash drives to my Mac and that worked perfectly.
It doesn't show in disk utility  either.
I really don't understand why my Mac can't recognize the Passport, especially when my friend's Mac had no difficulty finding it.
    Can someone please help me?

    Hello there,
What format is your WD My Passport Drive? If you go into Disk Utility it should tell you, I believe MacBooks can only Read and Write to HFS+, NTFS, Fat32, exFAT and ext2. I'm sure you can view NTFS but cannot write to it. I know I had the same sort of external drive, I plugged it into my mac and because I was only using it for a Macbook backup it formatted the drive to a Mac format. I'd suggest checking the format of the drive to make sure it's not formatted to a setting that isn't compatible with Mac's.

  • External cd/dvd drive not mounting on Macbook Pro with retina display, help?

Hi, I've recently purchased an amazon cd/dvd drive, this one to be exact http://www.amazon.co.uk/External-DVD-LIGHTSCRIBE-Burner-Netbook/dp/B00ABGW9J8, and it's not showing up on my desktop, sidebar or even the disc utility. When I plug it in the drive turns on and I can insert/eject discs, but it isn't mounting on my 10.9 macbook pro, any idea's how this can be fixed?

There have been numerous reports of problems with the USB 3.0 ports on the 2012 models - both Retina and non-Retina. There was a 'fix' that was issued before ML was released that seemed to have solved some problems but not all. ML was supposed to be the real 'fix' and I've not seen too many post about USB 3.0 problems lately. It just seems as if some drives work and some don't. Apple did issue a tech note about using USB 3.0 ports - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5172#12 - but I'm not sure that it will help you or not.
I've not read of any problems with TB storage devices, so you'll likely be OK there. It's just those USB 3.0 devices that seemed to be causing some kinks.

Its possible to replace it yes.   Its not easy, as you have to dissasemble the MacBook to get to it.
The drive you want is not compatible.  The drive in current 2014 MacBoock Pro´s is not even a Sata type drive.  Its a PCie Blade type drive.
