IPhone 4S only powers on when plugged into a wall charger, stuck in bootloop

Today I went to get my phone's screen fixed. At first, the problem was that the phone was rebooting every 3-4 minutes. Then, after it died, it doesn't power on anymore, except when it is plugged into a wall charger. However, it is stuck in a bootloop, where it shows the apple logo for about 7 seconds, then the screen goes black for about 5 seconds, then repeats. I can't unplug it or else the phone goes dead, and plugging it into my computer results in the same deadness. I've tried DFU Mode, Recovery and everything else when plugged into my computer, but it remains dead and black screened. The phone is not picked up at all, it doesn't power on or anything. It only powers on when it is wall charged, but it will bootloop. I can't get past this, and there is no way I can restore it. Help?

Your battery is dead. You will have to replace it see article:

Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

If you mean you didn't backup or sync your phone, everything on it will be lost when you get a replacement unless the techs are able to do this.  Apps can be re-downloaded.

  • My iphone wont fully turn off unless plugged into the wall charger! help! it is causing battery drains

Restore as new, does the problem continue?  If so, take it to Apple for evaluation.

  • How do I restore my iPod Touch that only turns on when plugged into the wall?

I found my old iPod Touch 4th generation in my backpack, and my backpack went through the wash, (It shouldn't of been too bad since it was in the side pocket) but it goes dead instantly as soon as I take it out of the wall charger, and it does not turn on when I plug it into my computer. It also has a pass, (That I forget) so I need to restore it. Is it possible to restore it without connecting it to a computer?

No. You have to connect the iPod to a computer with iTunes to restore the iPod.
Did you throughly dry the iPod before you started try to use it?

MY iPhone 5C suddenly stopped working. It wont connect to my Mac and repeatedly reboots from the apple Logo when plugged into the wall.
There is no water damage or anything. I got that checked at the Apple store. I also have Apple Care + but didnt let them give me a new one yet because I have photos on this that I have no yet backed up that are very important. They are the last photos I have with my grandfather. Can anyone help me. Please!

If the phone shows the "connect to iTunes" screen, the data on the phone is most likely lost.
Connecting in recovery mode is your only chance to use the phone again, besides getting it serviced by Apple.

  • My iPod only works when plugged into a wall socket!

Anyone know why my iPOD only works when plugged into a wall outlet? I tried it on the Bose docking station and also my MacBook and it won't work!
    Any ideas??

Sounds like a dead battery.  You can have Apple swap out the battery for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party service center to have them do the same for job a little less.

  • My iPhone won't stop vibrating when plugged into my Macbook.  All software is up to date.  iTunes just gives me an error.  No problems when plugged into a PC.  Why the nonstop vibrating!?

My iPhone won't stop vibrating when plugged into my Macbook.  All software is up to date.  iTunes just gives me an error.  No problems when plugged into a PC.  Why the nonstop vibrating!?

When I connect it to my iMac (with up-to-date OS X Yosemite 10.9.5) - it doesn't work.
Specifically - iTunes automatically launches, but then quickly shows a dialog window that says, "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone. This device is no longer connected."
Meanwhile - on my iPhone - in the upper right-hand corner (where the battery life is displayed) - you can see the "plugged in" icon (lightening bolt) rapidly blinking on and off.
In other words - it seems like, when it's plugged in - it's rapidly connecting and disconnecting (several times per second).
If I click "OK" on that dialog window on iTunes - it instantly pops back up, and continues to do so as long as I keep the iPhone plugged in.
I have tried all and stile did not resolve my problem. I tried to restart both devices, try different cable (I have original cable). Both devices are new and software's are update it on latest versions.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • My iPad 4 wifi 3G keeps charging slowly takes half a hour to get to 15% when plug into the wall with the plug and the lead what come with the iPad just wondering as I think some thing is wrong with the iPad

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod/iPhone charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know.  If the above test does, in fact, indicate a problem, read this.
    Also, according to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IPhone only turns on when plugged into wall

Hello, I have an iPhone 4 CDMA and it only works when in is plugged into the wall.  It does not work properly anyother time.  When I plug it into the computer it goes through the Boot Loop.  When I put it into DFU mode and recovery mode and try to restore it in iTunes it doesn't restore and just gives me a bunch of different error codes.  The most common error codes are 2001, 2006, or 1604.  It use to give me Error 21 but I fixed that by editing the hosts files.  I have tried six different computers and seven different iPhone cables on the computers and I still get the same error codes every time.  It does not work if it is not plugged in.  I have replaced the dock connector/charging port and the battery.  I bought it used and think it may have been jailbroken at on time.  It has not been jailbroken in the time I have had it.  I have also tried Tinyumbrella and that did not work.  What could be wrong with it?

Hello! When it turns off, do you notice if it drains quickly or does it just shut off even with full battery? Because this can also be caused by battery problems. Your iPhone may not be turning on even when plugged into a computer because a wall outlet charger gives off more power than a computer does.
I suggest you bring your phone to an Apple store right away. They could at least help you determine the problem, and by then, you can decide what to do with your iPhone - you can have it repaired (if they say it's still fixable), you can have it replaced with a refurbished iPhone, or you can buy a new phone completely.

  • Tethering drains battery to empty even when plugged into the wall socket

Twice yesterday when tethering for a few hours my phone shut down with a flat battery even though it was plugged into a wall socket and the charging indicator was on. Can tethering use more power than the charger can supply? After shutting down the laptop, the phone charged normally.

Yes, tethering (especially via Bluetooth) can use more power than the charger can provide. That's also true of GPS navigation when connected to a car charger. In both cases, having the iPhone plugged in certainly helps, but those activities will use more power than the 5 Watts provided by the power adapter (2.5 Watts if connected to the computer's USB port), and thus drain the battery despite being connected to a power source.

  • My iPhone 4 will only work when it's plugged into the wall charger. What can I do ?

    Please help.

I would be concerned too if my iPhone would not power on unless plugged in.  I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this.  I recommend following the steps below:

  • IPhone 4 won't turn on when plugged into computer nor charger

My refurbished iPhone 4 has the latest iOS 5.1.1 update and my mom's computer has iTunes version 10.6.3.25. However, recently it has been having issues holding a charge and now as of yesterday it won't turn on period. When it does it's only for a split few seconds and then it turns off again.
When it's connected to a wall charger it immediately turns on
and then lock screen apprears with the message "activation required". *Note it says it has at least 75% battery*
Upon entering my lock code my home page is only a page that says to "connect to iTunes".
When I attempt to take the phone off the charger, it dies
and is completely unresponsive as I connect it to a computer.
The computer doesn't recognize it and the screen remains black.
If I leave the phone alone on the charger it will continously go through a process of shutting itself off and turning back on. The time always restarts at around 7p or so and the date is Wednesday, December 31st. Also as it's plugged in, I manage to turn the phone off and on and reset it but the phone just keeps displaying the "activation required" screen. Can this be fixed at a Genius bar or should I have it replaced?

Sounds like a damaged device, take it to Apple for evaluation.
If it's under warranty, they will replace it.
If it's not under warranty, an Out of Warranty replacement is $149US.
