Iphone 4s preowned speaker broken - 90 day guarantee no one responds

Hi,
I bought a pre owned phone from verizon.  It has a speaker problem. I want to exchange it. But whenever I call customer care. I am going in rounds wasting my time. what is the process to exchange if there is manufacturer defect.
This is more like a previous user defect. My provisos experience with verizon was bad. E.g I bought a prepaid phone from verizon. They ask me to return my device within 14 days + give $35 if I don't like it. On top of that, I have to forgo the  pending balance on my prepaid card. Should have learnt the lesson first time itself.
This is more frustration with Verizon.

The speaker has a dent on it. I lost hope with Verizon and refunded it. So much for certified pre paid.
Didn't know I am running into another monster. Just to ask the status of my refund, I am hopping from department to department for more than 40 mins. Every hop takes at least 5 mins of holding. See screenshot below. I can see the agents asking me order number, location number, yet still not able to locate my order. I  pity them, they don't have a reliable IT application to rely upon.
Why is there so many departments? Refund dept doesn't know about the account status, account team do not know about the refund status. They are not willing to wait and even hear what I am saying, they are just happy in sending me to another dept. Classical support team reaction to a problem they don't have tools to handle.
Finally reached refund dept who don't see my return yet. I gave my tracking number <<removed>>. Yet after 10 business days, I haven't still received a refund and nobody knows what happened.  I have to call after a few days to check my status. One more hour is going to be wasted in my day for a phone that I didn't use. Reference number  <<removed>>.
I did learn a lesson. Never to do business with companies like verizon. Hoping to get my refund at least. Anyway my first month prepaid amount is useless now.  I am sticking with my current company where it is a breeze in customer care.

    Lately my phone has been acting strange.
    Initially, it stopped being able to take & receive calls- I couldn't hear the person on the other end, only through speaker phone or headphones. I let it die then left it off for a good 48 hours, when I turned it back on it was working again.
    A few weeks passed and the situation happened again, so I did the same thing, turned it off etc, but the speaker won't work no matter what I try, it's been like this for about a month, and I havent had the opportunity to send the phone in (thinking it is a mechanical problem).
    Now, it won't charge through my computer, sync into iTunes, and my computer won't even acknowledge it. I tried several cords, in different inputs, restarted the phone etc and nothing will work, however it will charge/sync to my boyfriend's Mac.
    Does anyone know what is the matter with the speaker- do I have to send my phone to Apple?

    does anyone know why it wont hook up to my computer?

    I had this issue with my wife's iPhone 4 shortly after it was purchased. After some research, I learned that most ppl with the same issue found that it was a hardware problem. I took the phone into the point of purchase (No Apple store in my location - Eastern Canada) and they ran it through the normal tests and then ordered me a new replacement iPhone 4 which I received 2 days later at no charge to me. We both have the same phones and there have been no problems since.

    If you are using the wall charger it is because your phone or charger is broken. If it is using a computer it is likely that the computer shuts off its USB ports when idle.

    Stevo I did a complete restore, not sure if you've tried it yet but just make sure your stuff if backed up before you do it .  Then I started fresh like I just pulled the phone out of the box and with Verizon you dial *228 and select option 1 to update .  Then it all of a sudden started working agian .  Give it a shot .

    Were the photos taken by your new iPhone?  If so, did you not import them off your phone to your computer (as you would any other digital camera) before the restore?  If not, restoring wiped the data off the phone and your pictures are gone.
    Sounds like a good time to (re)read the User Guide.

    Hey, There are afew things you can try.
    - Simply turn your phone off and back on again
    - Hold down your home button and your lock button and let goes as soon as the screen goes black (Phone will power down) - Then turn on your phone and hey presto!
    - Back up your iPhone to your PC, then restore it..
    this ones last cause I think you may have tried it already..
    - Close all open applications

    You need to do as provided. If no change after restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

    Apple doesn't replace the screen, they replace the entire phone.  If you've tried the basics (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) and your screen is still broken, bring it to Apple for replacement.  If you're not in the warranty period, you will pay $199 for the replacement.

    If the answer to the above question is "yes", FIRST, set up a backup of your new computer before you do anything else so the next time your computer breaks you will not be in the same situation.
