IPhone 4s run warm, losing charge in hours.

Last night, I went to bed with the iPhone 4s on 90% charge. This morning, it was 1%
I have 3G service but wifi disabled, bluetooth enabled.
iCloud (other than locate my phone) disabled.
All emails to 'fetch on demand'.
My settings had not really changed over the last couple of months, where I can manage 2 days between charge.
Today, I noticed my phone was running warm, and that I was losing about 20% charge per hour.
I tried powering off and on.
I tried shutting down all the apps.
I tried resetting the network settings.
Nothing made a difference.
I purchased 'System Status', which allowed me to examine the phone system log.
I had 4600+ consecutive folder syncronisation errors.
I attribute this to the fact that I had created a calendar on Outlook, on my work PC.
I had also created the account on the iPhone, before I realised it would sync up.
I then had 2 Calendars, I deleted one, the other had a '1' suffix, which I renamed on Outlook and on the iPhone.
The end result, I believe, I had the sync between the iPhone and Outlook royally confused.
I backed up the calendar on Outlook, deleted the calendar - the calendar on the phone disappeared.
I then re-loaded the calendar on Outlook, the calendar on the iPhone appears again.
Now, I don't see repeated folder sync errors, and I hope that I have fixed my battery issue.
In summary, 'System Status' or similar was a big help.
Ideally, what Apple should do is have a 'iPhone Repair' app which digs around and diagnoses problems. Or, preferably, if my phone reports back a problem that Apple send me an SMS to a URL of a solution to the problem, after all, I have gone to the trouble of reporting in problems, why not report back?
Hopefully, this helps someone.

Come to think of it, it is simply easier to delete the Outlook Email account and re-add it.
This appears to be the general others have taken.

  • IPhone 5 battery quickly losing charge after updating to ios 7.0.4

Just upgraded my iPhone 5 to the iOS 7 v and immediately started seeing the battery losing power. Has to be the upgrade. I old go evn 2 days before without recharging but now I have to recharge at least twice a day. What's up with this?

Yes. I seem to have fixed it, but not really. I erased all music from phone, and then manually managed a resynced eveything I wanted back on there. Interstingly, it didn't work the first two time and said (waiting to make changes) so I was freaking out. But the third time was the ticket and now we are good. Unfortunately, there is a bug, and until there is a real fix, my music that I have in itunes on my computer is not easy to get to the phone. It seems that many people have had the exact same issue since the updates. Hopefully it will fix itself in the next update. Thanks for help though.

  • Iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge, iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge

Since returning from far east my iphone 5 is now getting very hot and losing charge within half a day at maximum

It is normal for the phone to be warm when the device is being used, or charged.  If it is uncomfortably so, you should probably visit an Apple Retail store and have them take a look, or call AppleCare if you are still under warranty.  They can run a diagnostic to see if there is a problem (But the apple retail store can likely do more as they can visually inspect the device in addition to the diagnostic test).

  • HT4060 Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone to help the battery last longer?

Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone or iPod Nano to help the battery last longer?  I took a class at Verizon and they said let it drain completely and it would last longer.  Thanks

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My iPhone 5 losing  charge

My iPhone 5 keeps rapidly losing its charge and getting very hot. Just for the last 3 days. Was fine previously. Any ideas?

Check for background running apps. Double press the home button ( the circle button ) and then hold your finger on the apps that appear at the bottom menu bar.
Incorrect.  Only audio streaming, navigation, and a small handful of apps appearing on the "recently opened" bar actually are "background running" and use any iPhone resources.  The other 99% are in a frozen state for rapid app switching.
    To fix the battery drain:
    1. Reset phone (no data loss): Press both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Remove and reinstall Exchange and push IMAP email accounts
    3. Restore in iTunes using a backup.
    4. Restore as new

  • IPhone 5 getting hot and losing charge quickly

My iPhone loses charge within 5 hours, even on standby or when it's completely turned off. I took to to the apple store and they ran a test and said it was my battery, so I bought a new one. This didn't help. I also tried resetting to factory settings and this didn't work either. And yes I've tried the obvious things like closing apps, turning off Bluetooth, etc. help!

I have had my iphone 4s since April and after the initial required charge I have always chargd it daily every morning for about 90 mins or until it shows 100% charged. But, since middle of last week it is losing charge very quicky coming down from 100% to zero and switching itself off after about 6 hours ?? To give it the best possible chance I have switched off Bluetooth and made sure all apps are off.
I booked an appointment at the Apple Genius bar and after telling me that I need to charge the phone for 6 hours daily regardless of the battery level indicator showing 100% they replaced the battery with a new one and sent me packing. Last night I charged it as advised for at least 6 hours and guess what from 100% to switching itself off due loss of charge took about 6 hours !!!
I will return to the "Genius" Bar on Thursday to try again.

  • My iphone 4 has a black screen and gets warm when charging.

My iphone 4 has a black screen and gets warm when charging. also, the battery runs out unusually fast.  I can still receive calls etc and can see a 'backlight' come on behind the black screen when buttons are pressed, but I can not see anything on the screen. I have tried restoring the phone from recovery mode in iTunes but this does not fix the problem. If it were the screen that needs replacing then would the phone get warm?
    thanks for your help

Look in the dock and see if you can see any scaly blue-ish stuff. Look in the headphone jack under bright light - can you see anything pink?
Take it to an Apple store. They can help you with a repair. If you take it anywhere else, Apple will not repair your phone if anything goes wrong.

    Hi Lauren,
When troubleshooting power issues, we want to make sure we have followed all steps outlined in the following article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

  • Why is my iphone 4 not turning on, even after hours of charge?

Why is my iphone 4 not turning on even after hours of charge?

Try holding both the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. If it doesn't appear after 15 seconds, this probably won't work.

  • My new iphone 6+ very very slow charging. 6% increasing in 1 hour charging.

My new iphone 6+ very very slow charging. 6% increasing in 1 hour charging.

How are you charging it? Are you using the included cable and charger? Are you plugging it into the wall? Or are you charging it from the USB port on a computer? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
The phone will charge best using the included cable and charger plugged into a wall outlet. If that's what you're doing and you're still having problems, you should try a couple of things. Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the apple appears? Try a different cable. Try a different charger. Try a different outlet.
If everything fails, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.

  • Iphone 5 cant startup after charge for few hours

iphone 5 cant startup after charge for few hours, what can i do?

    Hi there Liewminchuan,
If your phone is still not powering on, I would next try and reset the device with these steps from the article about that sort of issue:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on
First, try to force your device to restart.
Forcing your device to restart won't erase the content currently on your device.
You can force your device to restart even if your screen is black or your buttons aren't responding.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
If it still doesn't turn on, I would next use these steps to see if there could be an issue with the cable, or power adapter:
If you can’t charge your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the battery doesn’t charge, unplug your device and try these steps:
Look at the connector at the bottom of your device and make sure it’s free of debris.
If you're using a USB power adapter, make sure it's plugged in all the way and the power outlet is working. If you're connecting to a computer, make sure it's on and can charge your device. To charge an iPad, you might need to use a USB power adapter and plug into a power outlet.
Try a different USB cable, USB power adapter, or USB port.
If everything seems to be working, reconnect your device and wait for 30 minutes.
If the issue persists, I would next reach out to Apple support directly:
If your device still doesn't charge or you still see an alert after trying the steps above, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling
