IPhone 4S short battery life after iOS 5.1

The battery of my iPhone 4S started to discharge more quickly after I downloaded iOS 5.1, but before it was OK. My location services, notifications, push and wi-fi are all off, but even if I don't use my phone, the battery life is shorter than it was before. Please help me with this issue! What can I do?

I am very sorry, but what do you mean by switching off the data connection completely? You mean switch off the wi-fi function? Sorrry, I just didn't get..

Hot battery and short battery life after download of Mountain Lion.  Any suggestions?

    As in, shortly after install?
Note after you install Mountain Lion it's likely that the Spotlight index will be rebuilt.  This will take some time and the machine will run hot.  After this completes, which could take 1-2 hours, things should return more to normal.
If they don't, I suggest running Activity Monitor and seeing if you can trace what is eating up CPU cycles.

  • No wifi and horrible battery life after iOS 7 install on iPhone 4S!

After the iOS 7 install on my iPhone 4S, my battery life is markedly worse and my phone will not connect to my home wifi. Every other device, including my wife's iPhone 5 and two iPad 2's, still connect perfectly. Please help. I wish I could go back to 6.1.3.

I've had issues since the upgrade too-messages wouldn't load, phone locked up and would turn off at random times. Then I noticed my data usage going up a ton in one day and checked and it wasn't connecting to my home wifi. Called tech support and they went through all the troubleshooting they could find and nothing helped. Had to go upgrade. You might try to reset your network settings, but that didn't help with mine

  • Is anyone else having problems with their battery life after IOS 7.1 software update?

After the software update IOS 7.1, my iPhone 5 battery life has been terrible. I've turned off all push notifications and location services (basically everything that would affect the battery life). I've done an optimization test and have restored my iPhone and lowered my brightness. My phone has been standby for 5 hours and it's at 54%. Before IOS 7.1, it lasted the entire day before it even hit 50%. I just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same issue. I really don't know if it's the software or the battery itself.

Mines fine, I did a hard reset after the update and with both bluetooth and wifi and celluar data on I am geting slightly better battery life on my iPhone 5s. right now Im at 83% with 1 hour and 24 mins useage and 1 day 14 hours standbye. Siome apps leach battery life so check whats using background app refresh and notifications, apps like facebook and also GPS useage suck your phone dry quickly.

  • HOT iPhone and poor battery life after 1.14 to 2.1 firmware upgrade

I recently upgraded my Original iPhone's firmware from 1.1.4 to 2.1. I did a restore rather than a simple upgrade (backup, restore to version 2.1, restore backup).
After the restore I noticed that my battery life was terrible and that the phone would get very hot (near the top of the phone) sometimes, as if the battery was discharging very quickly. I read a few posts that suggested Push might be the culprit, so I turned Push off (I'm not using MobileMe), and this seemed to solve the problem. However...
I now notice that whenever I play Apple's Texas Holdem from the App Store or play YouTube clips the same phenomena occurs, and that nothing short of a hard reset will stop it.
Oddly, if I refrain from playing YouTube clips or playing Texas Holdem battery life is much better than before the firmware upgrade.
In short, it looks as though there is something wrong with the 2.1 firmware. I see sporadic accounts of similar behavior on the various discussion boards, so I know I'm not alone.
Is there a fix for this behavior?
    Thanks in advance...
    James

Sounds more like an app stuck processing that shouldn't be....does happen from time to time. Behing hot means it is constantly processing.
    To fix:
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

  • Battery life after iOS 6.1 update

After Updating to iOS 6.1, my phone decided to black out with 24% battery an the only way I fixed it was to have someone call me while it was plugged in.  That was the only time the screen worked. I have also noticed on that day my battery didn't last all day like normal but instead was dead by hour 4-5 of usage.  Yesterday, my battery life also continued to be a problem and now this morning even when plugged in the battery says 100% only sometimes, the rest of the time it stops at 98%.  So I unplugged it and tried it again and it kept happening. Would say 100% then if replugged in would say 98%.  So my iPhone started the day with only taking three hours to die from full battery and after recharge and unplugging it is at 98%, not 100%.  Thoughts?

The problem is more than likely being cause by corruption that occured during the iOS install or in the backup that was used to restore the phone after the update.
    Standard troubleshooting is:
    Re-boot the phone
Restore the phone from your backup
Restore the phone as a new device.
One of the 3 should fix the problem.

  • IPhone 4S shorter battery life

I belive this is a know issue currently to apple, but i just want to see if anyone is expeirencing a shorten battery life with their 4S iphone.
it seems like even when i'm not even using it, the battery % goes down fairly quickly. i uploaded a pic of my phone at the end of its charge life, and as you can see, its nearly dead at 5hr and 45min of actual use and over 6hr of standby. i was using siri, internet, imessaging, a few calls, camera, and a few apps. mostly just setting up the phone and whatnot. this is not typical in iphone battery life. in my previous iphone 4, i remember several times when i used it down to the same battery level, and it had 8-10 hours of usuage and over 12 hours of stand by.
apple better come out with an update to fix this soon. i feel like i always have to have this phone plugged in or else risk dying on me on the go.
let me know if you have simialr issues please.

Ok so after trying out this setting adjustment yesterday, i left my phone off the charger until it just about died. it lasted from from yesterday afternoon til late this morning. i was actually quite impressed. and i didnt have any signifigant disturance from the settings difference. it all preformed just as normal. minus the weather widget that i didnt really mind not seeing in the notification center. oh well. i'd rather have a long battery life than constant knowlege of the temp.
as you can see i had just over 17 hours of stand by time and 7 hours of usage. alot of that i was just sleeping so ya...i still have to check it out from morning to night to see actual daily usage. but it is istill a big improvement.
i played around with the diagnostics and traffic setting. they dont affect anything from the looks of it. and who cares about iAds seriously. i hate ads as it is. and i believe the weather app had a big part in the battery issue as well as the reported time zone setting.
hope this helps out some people out there.

  • Very bad battery life after ios 7.0.3 update

I am not getting any battery back-up at all after the ios 7.0.3 update. I charge the phone to 100% before I go to sleep and turn off all the extra things like wifi or cellular data or anything which consumes battery and the next day morning when I wake up 20% or 30% drop of battery would be there. Before this update it was just 1% or 2% drop in battery. Why is this bad? Please help and please let me know when they are gona relase an ios with battery fixes?

Brightness set at third level (lined it up with third volume level by equalizing it on control center--lined them up)
    Sound at halfway
One email address (iCloud; Push), other is Gmail (manual)
    Photo Stream (shared) on
    Find My iPod off
    Music Late Night Equalizer on
    Automatic Updates off
    Background Refresh off
    Lcoation Services completely off
My iPod lasts from 8 in the morning to 7-8 at night.

  • Email crashes and shorter battery life after 3.1

I have iphone 3G, did the upgrade, no problems, but have noticed I have to charge iphone more often even with minimal use. Email will receive emails but crashes when I try to do anything with them. Any help is much appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum.
One of the useful things new members should discover is the "Search Discussions" feature located in the upper right of the Apple Discussions window.
Your specific issue may not have popped up but, there are a number of threads related to slow operation, battery drain and other non-desirable operation of the phone after the 3.1 upgrade in which the advice is to:
    a) restore your phone.
    and if that doesn't work
    b) reset and bring it back online as a new phone.
One (longish) thread can be found here:

fwiw - My phone became very sluggish and the battery drained much more rapidly after the 3.1 OS update. Erasing the phone and bringing back up as a new phone solved all the issues and it is much faster now. Be sure to back up before erasing.

  • Iphone 4s short battery life, software issue?

Curious if others have experienced and found a resolution to this issue?

Find your country and they will show a price for your battery.
If you can't afford, I recommend using Airplane Mode for when ever you don't use your iPhone. I had the same problem with my iPod Touch 2.....

  • IPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

Hi from Vancouver. Just thought I'd add my voice to the mix. Yes same exact thing happening with mine as well. It was in standby for about 3 or 4 hrs and dropped from 100% to 77%. It was almost completely dead after 6 hours of using it lightly yesterday as well. Tried a hard restart a few times too with no luck. Hopefully we'll figure it out! There must be something going on.

  • Iphone 4s battery melts after ios 7.1

Last Friday I've upgraded to IOS 7.1. especially after learning that the upgrade is especially helpful for iphone 4s,
Yes it fastens the device but the battery "melts"
I've searched the issue from the web and applied all the suggestions to improve battery life after ios 7.1.
If I don't use internet facilities (even wi-fi) its OK, no problem,
But from the moment I begin to use wi-fi or cellular its like a count down 95-94-93-92...., feel really bad about it,
Now I just use it as a "phone" not a smart phone,
If a want to use it as a "smart phone" it is no longer a mobile- I shoul use it with battery charger,
Hope a fix will come as soon as possible,

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
If this doesn't help, back up and restore via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a new device and test. If the problem is solved, there is some kind of corruption in your backup file or maybe it's one of your apps causing problems. If it continues, take it to an Apple Store for evaluation of a possible hardware problem.
