IPhone 4S . Short battery life daily.

My Iphone 4S was purchased about 1.5 years ago. Until recently the battery life wasn't bad, but over the past couple of months, the battery drains markedly over the course of a day. I do not have apps refreshing in the background, and I close apps when not using them. I keep GPS off when not using apps that need it, and keep the backlight pretty low. I'm doing all I can to keep the battery from draining, but it's getting pretty bad.

It could be a hardware (battery) problem or software related (e.g. a rogue app) like i had with my 2 year old iPhone 4S.
Read the blog post to determine if it is a hardware or software issue (usage time is equal to stand-by time).
In my case a rogue app which i had on my iPhone 4S already since iOS7.04 caused the drain after an update to IOS7.0.6. and still with iOS7.1 I removed the app and now my iPhone is fine again with iOS7.1 and now iOS7.1.1. ever since.
Question 1) Did you read the blog post i mentioned?
Question 2) Does your iPhone have the exact same Usage time as Stand-by time or not (see Settings > General > Use > ..)?
If this usage time is not exactly the same as the stand-by time then  it could be that it simply is a hardware issue (battery itself) and not software (iOS) related.
Question 3) What kind of settings do you have on your iPhone e.g. the below things could cause a huge battery drain ever since the recent iOS release can still run in the background (if you have 'refresh in background' or GPS turned on for some apps).
We have two iPhone 4S phones and we have an average battery time of 1-1,5 day (when using it for e.g. a few calls, texts, mail, news apps and a short video for e.g. total of 3-4 hours) or even 2 days (if i don't use my phone much almost 90% stand-by time) and with WIFI connecting for about 90-95% of the day and ofcourse phone network but no 3G.
Aside from that we have the following settings which could save a lot of battery:
- bluetooth off
- screen brightness set to approximately 30%
- fetch e-mail accounts once an hour (Settings > E-mail, calendar .. > deselect 'Push' and set it to either Fetch e.g. once an hour)
- do not refresh any apps in the background (Settings > Refresh apps on background)
- apps that use GPS are limited (Settings > Privacy > Location tracking)
- only have a few apps (5-10) that are allowed to send push notifications
- only have a limited amount of apps to send messages to 'Notification center' or e.g badgets/strips/sounds/apps symbol or on your 'Access screen' (See Settings > Message center > check settings per app)
I think that 3G uses more battery then WIFI so if you have WIFI access then use that instead of 3G.

  • IPhone 4S short battery life after iOS 5.1

The battery of my iPhone 4S started to discharge more quickly after I downloaded iOS 5.1, but before it was OK. My location services, notifications, push and wi-fi are all off, but even if I don't use my phone, the battery life is shorter than it was before. Please help me with this issue! What can I do?

I am very sorry, but what do you mean by switching off the data connection completely? You mean switch off the wi-fi function? Sorrry, I just didn't get..

  • IPhone 4S shorter battery life

I belive this is a know issue currently to apple, but i just want to see if anyone is expeirencing a shorten battery life with their 4S iphone.
it seems like even when i'm not even using it, the battery % goes down fairly quickly. i uploaded a pic of my phone at the end of its charge life, and as you can see, its nearly dead at 5hr and 45min of actual use and over 6hr of standby. i was using siri, internet, imessaging, a few calls, camera, and a few apps. mostly just setting up the phone and whatnot. this is not typical in iphone battery life. in my previous iphone 4, i remember several times when i used it down to the same battery level, and it had 8-10 hours of usuage and over 12 hours of stand by.
apple better come out with an update to fix this soon. i feel like i always have to have this phone plugged in or else risk dying on me on the go.
let me know if you have simialr issues please.

Ok so after trying out this setting adjustment yesterday, i left my phone off the charger until it just about died. it lasted from from yesterday afternoon til late this morning. i was actually quite impressed. and i didnt have any signifigant disturance from the settings difference. it all preformed just as normal. minus the weather widget that i didnt really mind not seeing in the notification center. oh well. i'd rather have a long battery life than constant knowlege of the temp.
as you can see i had just over 17 hours of stand by time and 7 hours of usage. alot of that i was just sleeping so ya...i still have to check it out from morning to night to see actual daily usage. but it is istill a big improvement.
i played around with the diagnostics and traffic setting. they dont affect anything from the looks of it. and who cares about iAds seriously. i hate ads as it is. and i believe the weather app had a big part in the battery issue as well as the reported time zone setting.
hope this helps out some people out there.

Find your country and they will show a price for your battery.
If you can't afford, I recommend using Airplane Mode for when ever you don't use your iPhone. I had the same problem with my iPod Touch 2.....

  • IPhone 5 short battery life?

I was lucky and got my new phone yesterday, but the battery barely lasts. After checking my email for about 30 seconds i lose 2%. I made sure nothing was running in the background, but the drain is worse than my 3GS I just upgraded from. Any suggestions?

Hi from Vancouver. Just thought I'd add my voice to the mix. Yes same exact thing happening with mine as well. It was in standby for about 3 or 4 hrs and dropped from 100% to 77%. It was almost completely dead after 6 hours of using it lightly yesterday as well. Tried a hard restart a few times too with no luck. Hopefully we'll figure it out! There must be something going on.

  • Has anyone encountered drastic shorter battery life both on iphone 5 and ipad since updating to iOS 6.1.2? How can this problem be solved?

    Dear all,
I am new to this community even though I have been a Apple user for years, so please forgive me if this question is not in the right section.
Has anyone encountered drastic shorter battery life both on iphone 5 and ipad since updating to iOS 6.1.2? I've always been happy with these two products until the update - now the battery life is considerably shorter which is extremely frustrating.
How can this problem be solved? Is there any way to go back to the previous version?
    Thanks for your help.

If you update using iTunes the phone is first wiped clean, then the new OS is installed, and finally the backup is restored. After this finishes if you sync your music should be restored. Music is not in the backup, because it is already on your computer and duplicating it would use up a lot of hard disk space.
An OTA update just patches what has changed; it does not disturb content.

  • Iphone 5 VERY short battery life since 6.0.2 update.. Is there anything to change that? :/

Very short battery life on my iPhone 5 since 6.0.2 update. I got up this morning and it was only half an hour in use and it already lost 10% of battery life! Please fix that apple!

Apple is still signing for 6.0.1 so you can RESTORE BACK to 6.0.1. Just download the 6.0.1 IPSW for your device and then press the shift key while pressing restore (on windows) which will open a window. Select the downloaded IPSW and you'll be back on 6.0.1. And since Apple is still signing 6.0.1 THIS IS NOT A HACK
OR AN UNAUTHORIZED downgrade. So it DOES NOT void your warranty because Apple is allowing you to downgrade because they've allowed the 6.0.1 window to remain open. I did it for a friend's iPhone and it all worked out fine.

  • Possible work-around for v3.0 short battery life

First: be aware there's a difference between "Push" (which is for some email account types & some MobileMe features) and "Push Notifications" (which is for apps). They are controlled in separate Settings screens.
    Short story:
If you've upgraded to v3.0, usually have Wifi ON, and experiencing short battery life, and if you can live without Push Notifications (at least until Apple finds a better solution), TRY TURNING "Push Notifications" OFF.
Alternatively, if you can live without Wifi but need Push Notifications, try turning Wifi off & let the data travel via 3G.
    Long story:
First I ran alternate days with Wifi ON, then Wifi OFF, and noticed with Wifi OFF my battery life was nowhere near as short (I could get through a day), but with Wifi ON, I can barely get through half a day. This is very different to v2.21, and in my setup the only significant difference was Push Notifications being ON.
Then today I've been running continuous pings from my Mac to my iPhone, with various combinations of Push on/off, Push Notifications on/off, email accounts on push / fetch / manual, and discovered there's a huge difference in how often Wifi gets turned on when Push Notifications is enabled.
With Push Notifications ON, while your iPhone 3G (and probably 3GS) is asleep, Wifi will be turned on for 15-20seconds every 1 to 2 minutes!
This is in stark contrast to Push Notifications OFF, but Push (for email, MobileMe, etc) ON, where Wifi is on only as often as your email account settings dictate.
This explains a lot, I think. With Wifi OFF, data goes through the 2G/3G radio, which is inherently ON all the time (for phone functionality), so the incremental 'cost' (to battery life) of Push Notifications is comparatively small.
But with Wifi enabled, data is instead sent via Wifi. The incremental cost (to battery life) is dramatically higher having to turn on the Wifi radio, find the WLAN, get an IP from DHCP, then exchange data with various Internet servers, when it happens every couple of minutes!
Though I'm not really sure what Apple can do about this situation. They appear to be turning Wifi on frequently to give the illusion of true (ie timely) push notifications. I think this situation runs parallel to those who found, with v2.x, that enabling Push on email accounts & Wifi enabled had similar major negative impact on battery life. Except now heaps more people want the Push Notification feature. Interesting conundrum...

The main thing that helped me with the short battery life was lowering the brightness. My 3G was so bright I could'nt sleep at night.

  • Short Battery Life and Very Slow Data on 4S

Short Battery Life and Very Slow Data on 4S,
anyone else noticing the slow speed of data on this phone?

Yes, I measure my slow data on Sprint in kpbs, not Mpbs. Like standard is download maybe 250kpbs, upload 100kpbs (that's 0.25 Mbps and 0.1 Mbps). On the same tower my buddy who has an AT&T iPhone 4 shows 2.5Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload (that's 2500kbps and 1500kpbs), a LOT faster. Sprint has not been much help.

  • When I got a new iPhone5, I experienced short battery life, and system sofware issues were not the cause. The camera also takes a blury picture regardless of lighting and I have the black one. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

What makes you so sure it isn't software?
The camera can be focused by take the point of focus on the touch screen.
If it is new as you said, it should be under warranty. Make a Genius Bar appointment or contact Apple with a repair request.

  • My MacBook Pro is really hot and the fan is on constantly. It didn't use to do this, does anyone know why this is happening? I have a very short battery life, so I have to keep it plugged in probably more than I should.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

  • Updated new iphone 4s and battery life is poor

Since I upgraded my new iphone 4s the battery life has become really poor. As soon as its unplugged its lost life!
Is this going to be fixed?

Depending on the settings for your social media apps, your usage can very. If, for example, Facebook is checking the status to often, your battery is more likely to be drained. Same for mail and other push/fetch services.
Sometimes it helps to delete the account and set it up again, there have been cases in which those apps got stuck trying to connect to their servers.
If you restored the phone from the latest backup you made, did you reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for at least 10sec, until the Apple logo came back again?

After I got my iPhone 4S the battery life has been really bad compared to my iPod Touch. It does anyone have any suggestions? Yes i have tried restoring the software and setting it up as a new phone.

You can't compare the iPhone's battery life to an iPod Touch - apples and oranges.
