Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
After you have Recovered your Device... Re-Sync your Content

Iphone software update deleted my playlists on the phone and itunes

When i installed the latest update to the iphone 3gs all of my playlists were wiped out. is there way to recover them? when i synched my phone with itunes it deleted the playlists there as well. i do have an ipod with the playlists still in tact.

I had a very similar issue. Bought the 3G and tried to sync it with my Outlook (2002) and it deleted about 3 dozen calendar events. It seemed to be specifically recurring events, and I think they all had reminders. Not sure though - recreated them all, so let's see what happens.

IPhone 4s update was interrupted and message said phone had to be reset to factory settings. Lost all photos from phone in process of transferring to pc. Copy of my backup overroad that phone and all the old data and photos are gone.

My boyfriend and I share an iTunes account. I just tried to update his phone and during the update an error message occurred saying that his phone had to be reset to factory settings. It said it was an un setup phone and needed plugged in to iTunes. With no other choice, we had to select reset to factory settings. Now, my phone backup through iCloud downloaded onto his and all of his contacts and photos were overridden by mine. His photos were in process of transferring from the phone to the pc while this occurred and over 900 of them were complete when this happened. They don't show up on the pc now either since the sycn wasn't finished. Is there a way to get them back? When we plug his phone in now it shows my name instead of his so I'm not sure how to get to an old version of his backups even.

Hello! I have a factory unlocked iphone 4 with a T-mobile sim. Every time I connect it to iTunes, it says that there is a carrier update. My question is: is it safe to download this update or it can lock my phone to T-mobile? If I know right, its impossible to lock a factory unlocked phone, but I just want to be sure of this. Providing it is a factory unlocked phone then it will not relock to any network.

Sounds like you had the phone hacked to work on a network other than what the phone was originally locked to. When you updated the software on the phone it reverted back to the lock which makes your sim unusable.

All US sold iPhones are carrier locked to AT&T.
Neither AT&T or Apple will unlock them under any conditions.
If the device is unlocked, it has been un-officially unlocked.
Updated the device will almost certainly relock it to AT&T.
Save yourself some hassle, either return it to the seller or re-sell it online. Then purchase an iPhone intended for use in your country.

You must be referring to a different phone as well, since the last iOS for the iPhone 3 is 4.2.1. I'll assume you are referring to a 3GS, and as The Huntress stated, swipe the camera up, you can take your pictures and then swipe back down and lock the phone.

Connect the device to the computer with which you normally sync and open iTunes.
Note: If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you have synced with. Otherwise, go to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer" section below.
If the device is still disabled, or if iTunes does not automatically sync your device, sync the device with iTunes.
If you have chosen to encrypt your backup, it will contain the passcode. Disable backup encryption before restoring from backup. Learn more about iOS backups in iTunes.
When the backup and sync is complete, select Restore from Backup and choose the most recent backup of your device.
