IPhone 4s - updated to ios8 - issues..

Unluckily my hard drive on my 2011 13" MBP has been dying a slow death this last week. I a have managed to drag and drop a lot of files onto external but some I'm unable to.
Then I got back from Europe (I live in the UK) and my iMessages and emails were messing up on my iPhone 4s started messing up. Just not getting emails and iMessage would not function at all. I called Three* my network provider and they said to do a reset.
I did a reset and it didn't work, they then suggested backing up and restoring with latest ios8.
I managed to back up on iTunes but now it appears that I do not have enough power in my hard drive to back up restore. It was 'restoring' for the entire afternoon with now progress on the bar.
I pulled it out in disgust and boredom of waiting.
So right now I am unsure what to do.
Currently I can not get past a 'Hello' screen.. It's a white screen with animations of hello in different languages and Siri seems to be reading them out. But I can not even scroll through this screen?
I am guessing this is a full restore that is underway.
I am willing to accept that I may not be able to restore with my older data like photos.. Luckily in iCloud when I log in I can see all my numbers and calendar entries etc so is that possible to still download them to phone?
I am currently without a phone and it ***** big time. I have no idea what to do about it?
Can anyone please suggest anything I could try or options I have at my disposal?

The 4s is perfectly compatible with iOS 8. Any reported issues are more to do with specific glitches during installation, than anything particularly wrong with iOS 8.
As a counter, I have a couple friends that are using iPhone 4s and none report any issues with iOS8.

IPhone 4S updated to iOS8, no internet possible at all

After updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8.0.2 my iPhone seemed to work properly.
Only a few thing where reacting slow.
- Like response during typing, the typed words appeared after a few seconds or didn't appear at all.
- Turning the iPhone from vertical to horizontal (or v.v.), the display, didn't turn with it, or only with several seconds delay.
- Battery-power turns faster on low.
So there are several of these kind of problems.
The main problem on this moment however is that internet suddenly doesn't work at all.
- WiFi doesn't work. It is not possible to turn "on" the WiFi, because the WiFi-button doesn't response on touching
- tips and tricks like restoring network settings or disable location settings doesn't work
- although the 3G-symbol in the topbar is visible, it's not possible to have a 3G-connection with the provider at all
- Trying to restore the iPhone, using iTunes is also not possible. iTunes requires you first to disable "find your iPhone" on your iPhone.
Trying to do so, the iPhone requires the Apple-ID password and tries to check the password online. That of course is not possible,
because there is no internet connection available in the first place.
Maybe unnecessary to mention, that I can't use the iPhone any more where it was used for.
I cannot check email, can't use social websites, no web browsing, not possible to check and use my bankaccount.
As an hockey-arbitter, I can't fill in the match-results of the teams online. (it's only possible online, on paper is not possible any more)
I can't use the remote-control for my iTunes music on my MacBook, I cannot stream music to my Airport or Apple TV.
My Contacts and Agenda doesn't synchronize any more. I'm not able to pay my parking-costs (using Parkmobile) any more, so I have to put a bankcard in the parking machine (which is not error-tollerant)
So Apple please solve these problems directly.
And when it will take to much time, please make it possible that iOS8 users are able to "downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 again.
I can imagine that Apple won't like such a temporarily solution, but it would help many Apple users.
Please make that temporarily downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 possible, until iOS 8 is bug free

You are right.
Apple is losing the faith of "hard core Apple supporters", like myself.
A friend of mine has just already bought an Android 4.4 SmartPhone, Wolfgang AT-AS55HD1.
It has an 5.5 inch screen, 8 Mps Camera and much more.
It's open-source. Has similar specs. as the iPhone 6plus (of course there are some differences) but costs only a fraction.
Just 199 euro, where the iPhone 6plus costs 799 euro. Thats only 25% of the iPhone's price.
I'm considering to buy just the same smartphone. When I should decide to do so, it's buy buy Apple.
That's not the case yet, but, just as you, I almost throw the iPhone on the floor. I'm also furious at Apple.
So Apple, SOLVE THIS PROBLEM DIRECTLY (this weekend) or make it possible to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2.

IPhone 4s Update Failed - Backup Issue

Hi there,
I decided to update my iPhone 4s today to the 6.1.3 update, but I got an error saying that there was some kind of issure and my iPhone was in DFU mode. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it seem to of sorted it out but it was syncing whilst I was trying to set it up through the phone, which created 2 new backups. The phone has set itself up now with my old apps but nothing else is on the phone AND I can't seem to update from my previous backups I did before I did the iOS update. They have been overridden as I have checked the MobileSync folder. I did my intital backups before the iOS update at around 12PM and the only 3 updates in the folder are; 1:20PM (1.3GB), 1:27PM (7.07MB) and 1:42PM (7.07MB).
It's not allowing me to pick the 1:20PM backup which I'm guessing has most of my data in so how can I get around this issue?

Update to this.
I've tried to use a backup extractor and the backup is corrupt. Luckily I've still got all my photos and videos as I back them up regularly but I've lost all my contacts, texts, user data etc.
This wouldn't be the first time this has happened to me or other people and I know that's no ones fault here but I hope Apple has a team that scouts these forums regularly to take note of issues. The update process needs to be more fail-safe and people need to be aware on backup overwriting and so on. These phones and devices aren't cheap and I know they make a good amount of profit off them so they could inject a bit of that in to changing this daunting and unavoidable process.

Iphone 5S updated to IOS8.0.2, very unhappy

Wii fii loses connection, txt message come through at times from 30min. after they have been sent to me and up to 3 days after and sometimes come through double. Now I have no sound to notify me of txt messages even though my phone shows a tone on to alert me its there. Tried removing and reseting. Still not working.
FB is often 12 hours or more behind now (even been several days behind). Sometimes it won't load, slow.
Affecting my calendar app, won't show the date in the icon, tried removing this and reseting it & it still disappears permenately.
I've tried removing certain settings and rebooting many times. The problems have not corrected.

I have all the same problems except the home button issue. All since upgrading to 8.0.2. I'm on my 2nd restore to try and get all my data/apps/music on my iPhone 4s.

IPhone 4S: Update and restore issues double whammy

While trying to update to iOS 5.1 on an older Mac running Leopard and iTunes 10.5 away from home, the update was downloaded, but couldn't be installed. The error message said it was due to older operating system. The phone is frozen at the "USB to iTunes" screen, and hard reset isn't working. It occasionally goes to the apple-on-black start up screen, then back to iTunes screen.
Back at home with a Mac running Lion 10.7.3, iTunes 10.6, iOS 5.01. Now the phone isn't recognized in iTunes. I've restarted iTunes and Mac. I have the phone charging.
Forget the update, I'd just like to restore at this point! Thanks!

Also: I have read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808, but since iTunes doesn't recognize the phone, it's not recovering.

It worked fine in iOS7, it still works fine on an older iPhone 4 running 7 and an iPad Air also running 7. Also my Macs, an old MacPro 10.7.5 and a MacBook Air 10.9.5 work great, autofilling every time.

All the password info is still there under Saved Passwords.
I have tried turning Names and passwords off and on but no luck

I can get autofill to work but it will only remember my last username and password used for the site rather then letting me start typing a username and then suggesting one and its password being automatically filled in if I hit space while the suggested username was showing or when i finished typing the username (how it worked in iOS 7). I'm having zero issues using iCloud keychain on my MacBook pro running Yosemite so I'm not sure if apple accidentally removed this functionality or if there is something I can do to get it back? I have keychain turned on as well as autofill passwords and when I go into the settings I can see all the accounts and passwords for this particular site so I know they're saved..very odd behavior. If no fix I'll just start adding them all to one password but this seems cumbersome considering safari has this feature built in.

I'm almost certain my phone is the problem. I have gone through resetting the network settings a dozen times on my phone, even did it on my dad's. Now my texts are beginning to do the same when I text my fiance.
Resetting the network settings DOES work -- the problem is it will work for a day or two or for only a few hours - then I'll have to do it all over again.

She would have to ask her carrier if they unlock iPhones and if she qualifies for this service.

MacBook Pro issues after updating to iOS8

After updating to iOS8 I ran into some strange issues (listed below) for the first time ever. Some of them I noticed the next day, others a couple of days later...
- all my contacts disappeared in "contacts"
- all my contacts disappeared in "Skype"
- my background picture disappeared
- all my folders in the launchpad were unpacked and all the summarized apps were scattered all over the launchpad.
All those things happened while the computer was in sleep mode, not turned off and didn't return to normal after restarts.
I got everything restored/reorganized but keep wondering if somebody else experienced something similar.

Well, if your Contacts have disappeared, then under System Preferences, click on iCloud and make sure you are signed into iCloud. If you are not, sign in. If you are, sign out and then back in to see if that restores your contacts.
I take it you have already restarted your Mac? If not, do that as well.
