Iphone 4s voice to text failure

SIRI is working. Voice to text for test messages and email is not. Purple dots spin and spin and then stop. I am AT+T. I see some evidence that others have this issue but no evidence yet that Apple is aware/addressing. Anyone know more?

Two things to consider:
1) Voice recognition occurs through Apple's servers and not in the iphone itself. There have been occasions, albeit rare, where everyone using the 4s experiences this lack of voice recognition problem. We have learned that in those instances where the problem is broad based it is because Apple is having a problem with their servers. The problem is not your phone! In the past, Apple has usually "solved" the server problem within several hours to a day.
2) If the problem is specific to your phone alone, one tip offered by Apple support is:
* bring up the shortcut screen (double click home button twice)
* hold the message icon button till it wiggles
* then tap the home screen again.
This procedure may reset the voice recognition. Support says that sometimes the iphone gets confused and needs a "nudge".

I upgraded an AT&T and Verizon iPhone 4 to the ios 5 firmware, and I am having the same exact issues for both phones. When using the voice command a few times, the audio voice does not come through the "speaker" (referring to the speaker located at the bottom of the phone). Instead, the audio voice goes through the receiver which is on the front face of the phone, on the right of the camera.
For example, say you want to use the voice command to dial a phone number. You would enable voice command by depressing and holding down the "Home" button and give the command "dial...1-800-452-3456", the phone would then repeat the phone number back to you through the "speaker". However, when I did this a few times, the voice instantly goes to the receiver instead. I found no way to fix this problem. I tried the following and none of these solutions worked:
Turned the phone off and back on again
Hard reset (held down the Home and Lock button for 10 seconds)
Restored the phone, and set the phone up as a "new iPhone" instead of restoring from back up
After trying to restore both iPhones and still have the same issue, I made an appointment to visit Apple. I took the Verizon iPhone 4 to Apple, and the employees handed over a refurbished iphone in hopes to solve this issue. However, this refurbished phone still had the same exact issue.

Of course I checked my apps library and found nothing. However I'm looking at the status while sync is processing, I'm 100% sure that app is not synced to my iTunes library
Yep, I can always manually "transfer purchases" to my iTunes library. But this is not the point. On my old iPhone 4 and new iPad (3rd gen), it will sync all newly installed apps from my iOS devices to my iTunes library, no need to click "Transfer Purchases" again.

I convert voice memos on my Mac using the Dictation feature:
Open TextEdit on a new document
Enable Dictation & Speech enabled the System Preferences.
Press the fn-key twice
Play the voice memo on the iPhone and let the Mac listen to it using the internal microphone with TextEdit open on a new document.
Press the fn-key twice, to finish Dictation. You will only see the transcribed text, when Dictation has finished.

I have the same problem since updating to IOS 8.3. Any app to which I want to send a new link via IMessage does not allow me to select a contact to send the IMessage to. Using a pre-existing thread does not have same problem.

The microphone icon is not available- it's there but a pale grey. I could use it now to type this but not when texting. Siri is enabled and working fine.

I use Dragon Dictation, but it is free. The microphone also works for dictating text in the Messages app, notes, email. With that, you just tap on the microphone key by the space bar.

New voice to text feature glitch on iPhone 6?

So when you use the microphone button to send a voice text is it supposed to show up as a seperate text? For example under my messages I have my husband. If he voice texts me than a new message thread pops us under his name and the voice texts are seperated out.

Last week I have actually installed an app called "Dragon Dictation" free app that does voice to text and also work for voice to email. Its pretty accurate for the few times that I had a real need to use it. Check it out and see how you like it.

I had the app Dragon (a voice to text app), on my iPhone and downloaded it to my iPad Air, but it's not working. Reading the "help" area it says something about ATT iPads don't support it. I have ATT.
But, I can open the app and it reads "Tap and dictate" as though all is fine and dandy and then after practically yelling into almost every part of the iPad (to no avail), it just says " Sorry message not recognized. Please try again."
Can anyone help me on this? Also is there a better/best dictation app for iPad?

You can use text-to-speech in any app. I'm a big fan of the app Drafts as it allows two touch tranfer to any number of other applications, not unlike how I recall Dragon worked. If you don't want to spring for Drafts (though I can't recommend it highly enough!), you can always use the built in Notes app then copy and paste when you're done.
No, you can't see the words as you speak. However, you can always stop after a couple of sentences and review.

Voice to text not working since iOS7

Is anyone else having issues since the update? My voice to text option isn't working at all. All I get after I speak is that blue spinning circle. I'm so frustrated. I use this all the time. Can't figure out how to fix it. Any advice? Thanks!

I got this information from an Apple Support tech and it fixed the problem.
1) Tap Settings > General > Restrictions to make sure no restrictions have been enabled.
2) Tap Settings > General > Siri and disable Siri. Then, press and hold both the top and front buttons for 15 seconds or until you see the Apple logo. The iPhone should restart
3) Go back to Settings > General > Siri and re-enable it before testing.
4) Try voice to text and see if it's working. If it is, you're good to go. If not, go to Step 5.
5) Confirm that Siri is set to the language you speak most comfortably by tapping Settings > General > Siri > Language. If not, set it to the appropriate language and try voice to text again. If it works, great! If not, go to Step 6.
6) Tap Settings > General > Keyboards and make sure the keyboard you see listed there matches what we’ve got for Siri. Test again; if voice to text doesn't work, go to Step 7.
7) Reset your iPhone’s “General” Settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings. This won’t remove any content, but will reload all Settings to default, including stuff like your wallpaper. Your iPhone should restart. Make sure Siri is enabled before testing again.

Siri and Voice to Text function not working

I have done every suggestion that has been listed on every website and from the Siri troubleshooting document. Nothing has worked so far. When I look at what has access to my microphone it doesn't list Siri and I cannot find where I can give it access. Siri and the Voice to Text function worked fine before the iOS7 update. I've made sure that Siri function is turned on, I've made sure there weren't any restrictions, I've turned the phone completely off, then I did the reset (on/off button and home button), I even went as far as doing a restore to the factory setting and then did the backup and it still does not work. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!! As much as we pay for these phones we shouldn't be having this many problems after doing the updates that Apple makes to FIX functionality. Updates are supposed to enhance our phones, not mess them up.

I fixed mine! Go in and reset settings in general settings at bottom. It's the top reset. After complete go turn on Siri, location, and find my iPhone. Let me know if it works for you
