Iphone 4S wifi issues 7.0.4

hey guys
IPHONE 4S - Help needed
first post on here as im at the end of my tether with this phone.  So after installing IOS 7.0.3 i had no issues untill about 2 weeks in wifi started dropping out intermitently, at home, and office. i took no notice.
once i actually needed to use the Wifi about a week later is when i noticed Wifi was off and i couldnt connect.
so after forgetting the home network and trying to re-connect i kept getting 'Unable to connect' or the network purely wouldnt show.
so i wiped the phone to backup > issue didnt fix
i secondly wiped the phone  to fresh > issue didnt fix...
IOS 7.0.4 released > Install to backup > issue didnt fix
booked into genuis bar ...
they performed diagnostics > all clear
they wiped phone to IOS 7.0.4 > Hey presto , worked like a treat .... but wait
now 2 days later (sunday , phone got fixed on friday)
Issue returned. Thought maybe the music or pictures or apps i reinstalled off the mac were corrupt and brought the issue back (unlikely)
another fresh install to IOS 7.0.4 (this time, new playlist and no pics for the phone)
Minimal apps reinstalled
(ISSUE NOT FIXED) !!!!
im getting so annoyed. the Home network keeps coming and going....
anyone got any ideas. (i know its not the broadband as i have many other things hooked up to it and all work perfect, i.e. Tv, Mac, Ipad, Apple TV etc)

ChrisJ4203, thanks very much for your input.  I don't mean to turn this post into an endless debate, but frankly I am still having a hard time believing that the WiFi died as a result of a hardware failure.
My logic might be flawed, but here it is:
While the iPhone 4S got very hot when wirelessly downloading and installing iOS 7.0.4 over the WiFi network, the WiFi chip and antenna had to be functional to complete the wireless iOS update.  Apple was very clear that iOS 7.0.4 is too large to download and install via cellular service.  Accordingly it would appear that any hardware failure had to occur in the few minutes between the download/installation of iOS 7.0.4 and its first use.  That window of opportunity is incredibly small in an otherwise flawless hardware performance.  I am not a big believer in long shot coincidences, so a WiFi hardware malfunction seems highly improbable to me, but not impossible.  A firmware/iOS conflict still seems more plausible to me.
I also don't read much into Apple's "out-of-warranty" replacement offer at $199.  AT&T tells me that anyone walking in off the street (with or without a hardware or iOS malfunction) would receive the same offer.
I appreciate that some iPhone 4S users did not experience any WiFi issues when they updated to iOS 7.0.4, but such difference could easily be explained if Apple used more than one WiFi chip and/or firmware in the iPhone 4S series.  Such an explanation would also account for iOS 7.0.4 (and 7.0.6) not recognizing the WiFi chip after the iOS update.
Still perplexed, but thanks again for your kind efforts to help.
Wonder if I can limp along long enough to spend my money on an Apple iPhone 6 ... but then again I don't want to be anyone's beta-tester.
I am tempted to switch to a Samsung Galaxy or some other smartphone as long as I will be buying new accessories, but frankly I don't want to waste my time learning a new OS or core apps.

  • IPhone 5 wifi issue. IOS 6.0.2 vs IOS 6.0.1

    Hi all,
Just want to ask if IOS 6.0.2 is better than IOS 6.0.1?
Recently, i noticed that my iphone 5 will disconnect the wifi connection after a while when not in use (standby / sleep mode_10 mins). When first bought, the phone was perfect.
Sometimes it will auto sycn back to wifi and sometimes not. IOS 6.0.2 software update on my phone states that it will fix the wifi issue but also heard negative issue such as the battery drain its power source very fast.
Will be very appreciate to hear some suggestions. Thanks and cheers to all!

It's because your phone will pick up LTE and then it'll lose it. What you need to do is turn off the LTE (until the service is better, more available) and you won't go in and out of service.
Go to Settings > General > Cellular > Enable LTE - OFF

  • Iphone 4 wifi Issues

I have searched everywhere and i cannot find an answer for my wifi issues.
I have an iphone 4 and am using a belkin n+ router. Sometimes when i wake my iphone from sleep mode the internet doesnt work. It shows i am connected to the wifi on the iphone. Under settings it gives me the ip address, subnet mask, and dns. I even pull safari up and try to access my router (192.168.1.1) and that doesnt respond. The quick and easy fix is to turn off wifi and turn on wifi on the iphone, but thats a pain in the butt if your doing it 20 times a day.
I have seen several posts on this issue and solutions but none have worked for me. This is what I have done so far, please let me know if I am missing something.
-routers firmware is up to date
-went from dual band (2.4,5ghz) to singal band (2.4ghz)
    -set up a static ip
    -used dhcp
-click "reset network settings" on the iphone"
-I have the latest iphone firmware.
    -My SSID is no hidden
    -I am using WPA2
I think thats all i have troubleshooted. Also I have 8 other wifi devices connected to my network and have no issues what so ever with the rest of them, just the iphone.

I just wish this would be fixed. Anyone have any solutions?

  • Another iPhone 5 wifi issue I guess.

I've seen the issue many are having not being able to connect to wifi, or connect and still getting no usage out if it. My issue is a little different. I can connect, but the range of my wifi is noticeably shorter for some reason. I'm getting less bars in the same locations of my house, and just dropping wifi in these locations where I never had any issue before. Also my iPhone 5 is significantly slower on on my wifi, versus my iPhone 4 on the same wifi. I'll include a video I put on YouTube to show how much. Downloading the same app, in the same place, on the same wifi... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfmoHrzjCWU .... This is just 1 test. I did about 10 in total,  6 YouTube video races, and 4 app download races. My iPhone 4 won them all, most by a lanslide like in the video.
I've commented on the other wifi issue post. But I didn't really see anybody else reporting this kind of issue. I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or maybe you have a 4s or 4 and you can check yourself and let me know. Thanks :)

I think this is interesting because even if all the people who are having connection issues, do finally get connected to wifi. Are they then gonna have this issue? Maybe not even notice it, atleast for a little bit. Then it becomes super annoying!!

    Hi
As your probably aware this is a large problem with most 4 users at the moment you could try some of these quick tips may help?
Try switching Airplane mode on for 30 seconds or so, then turn it off and try connecting to Wi-Fi again.
Try holding down the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button until your device restarts.
Turn your router off for 30 seconds and then switch it on again.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then set up your Wi-Fi network again from scratch.(Note this will reset all your bluetooth setting too such as paired devices)
Try changing the channel on your router and check the rest of the settings.
Make sure that your router firmware is up to date.

  • Iphone 6 Wifi issues

Me and my wife got iphone 6 two days back. Having really bad wifi speeds. comes back to normal after resets. All other devices on ios8 works fine.
Called apple care. They seem to be surprised with the issue even though I see a lot of people having the same issue. Tried the following things
    router reset
    reset network settings
    reset and setup as new
reset and and restore from backup
disconnected all other devices from internet except the two iphones
    tried google dns fix
    turned off wifi networking
    UPgraded to 8.0.2
    what am i missing?
thinking of returning both phones because I think it is a hardware issue
    thoughts?

I changed my router authentication from WEP to WPA2 and so far the wifi issues seems to have gone...
Will keep you posted. If this is the actual culprit, I am still debating to keep the phone or not. Not all public Wifi's are going to be having WPA2.
The other thing that bothers me is that neither my iPad Air or iPhone 5s had these issues even with WEP and updating to iOS 8.

  • IPhone 5s WiFi Issue even with iOS 8.1.1

I had Problem before with WiFi. Check my Previous topic: iPhone WiFi Speed Issue iOS 8.1
At certain times of the day my iPhone 5s still have this problem Now Running iOS 8.1.1
Apple Please don't do this with us! i tried all the ways But there is no result (Changing Router, Reset etc.)
    Should i wait for iOS 8.2 !!!?????

the issue to the use of Apple’s Wireless Direct Link (AWDL) that is used for AirDrop, AirPlay, and Gaming connections. I’ll go out on a limb and say the WiFi issues are because of Apple’s choice of using Bonjour over AWDL and that, given the constraints of the WiFi hardware, this will be difficult to get right in the first few updates ie 8.1 and 8.1.1 but given time it should be sorted out

  • Iphone 4s wifi issues ios 6.1.2.!!!

Anybody with a solution to ios 6.1.2 wifi issues ? or should wait for ios 6.1.3..!
When is 6.1.3 coming ? any idea?
My wifi is not working at all... not able to connect any network. Apple is just ignoring this .....

For the backup problem, take a look at this doc -> iOS: Troubleshooting backup issues in iTunes
for the Wi-Fi problem, try Resetting Network Settings from Settings > General > Reset. And, see this for other ideas -> iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • IPhone 5 Wifi issues persist after 6.0.1

I have been having these issues. I am finding certain apps are always slow downloading whereas others download quickly all the time. It is most notable with podcasts where some podcasts take forever to download (always the same ones) whereas others always download quickly. I have my iPhone 4S right next to my iPhone 5 on the same network and, for example, an 80mb Vergecast podcast will take 90 minutes to download on the iPhone 5 but only 2 minutes on the 4S. Both are running iOS6. The Engadget podcast of similar size will download on both in 2 minutes. I have this same thing happening with many podcasts. Ironically when I go on the network in the Apple Store the problem doesn't exist. I do have a WPA2 network at home but even when I turn off the WPA2 the problem persists. I have had the iPhone 5 replaced already five times and it hasn't resolved the issue. Not sure if it is hardware or software - as it's possible the replacements were part of the same bad batch. I don't notice the problem during basic web browsing or emailing which is probably why many users aren't noticing the problem. My wife, for example, is not a power user and hadn't noticed the issue but when I tested her iPhone 5 it has the same issues. I have now tested 4 friends iPhone 5s as well as my own on a total of 5 different wifi networks and the problem persists across all of them. Updating to 6.0.1 has not fixed the issue. It sounds like maybe some kind of DNS issue possibly?

I have the same issue. I think that the iphone 5 doesn't like specific routers, but I just can't pin point what the difference is between the routers. So far, I have tried 5 different routers with WPA2 and 3 of them works just fine while the other 2 have problems. Very weird ....

  • IPhone 6 Wifi Issue

    Hi all,
Just looking at gaining some information and to find out if anyone has any solutions.
Since getting my new iPhone 6 i have been having troubles with my wifi connection. To connect to my home wifi i need to place the phone right next to the router, once connected it does stay connected from a distance but the speeds are very slow.. again once i loose connection i then need to re-place the phone enxt to the router.
I thought it was maybe a software issue so i waiting for the 8.1 IOS update to see if it was going to fix the issue.  My girlfriend and I bought our new iPhones on the same day and hers works perfectly.
Has anyone else got the same issue? if so have you been able to resolve it?
I'm starting to think this could be a hardware issue.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

  • Iphone 4s wifi issues

My iPhone 4s will not stay connected to the wifi.  I have tried everything but it still will not stay connected.  I have the newest version iOS 6.1.1 but doesn't seem to help with anything.  I am worried that ATT will slow my internet down because I am on 4G instead of wifi.  Has anyone been able to figure out how to fix this problem?  I desparately need help with this.

My 4s is also having issues, AT&T is charging me and extra 10 bucks for going over my data plan. Thanks Apple for that!
Well, i tried everything, my first measure was to take the device to Apple Store, Genius guy said it is a hardware issue, there's no update or such a thing that will fix the problem. Im not sure if he really knew what he was talking about thou. He restet the phone, reset network settings, wipe out everything, nothing happened. WiFi is still grey out.
Sometimes it comes back, it recognises my router then it drops again after 2 min.
The real pain in the neck is: How Am I supposed to restore or back up from Icloud if I dont have wifi anymore?
Apple doesnt seem to care if I just upgraded my icloud account for more space. (useless now)... thanks again!
My opions were according to Genius guy: Pay $199 for a "new" 4s with 90 days warranty on it, or wait until may 26th comes so I can upgrade with AT&T and get the Iphone5. He scheduled me for a support call... I took the call today, lady didnt seem to care either, also tried to bill me 19.95 for doing the same steps that genius guy did...
So here I am with an "awesome" iphone4s thats good for only texts and calls. I can forget calling my daughter on FaceTime in Brazil, or using Skype, Youtube and try to explain my 3 year old that she cant watch Netflix on my phone anymore.
Bottom line is Im stuck with a contract with AT&T and cant do nothing about it
Ps: when i got the 4s from best buy I signed up for a 2 year insurance plan, 2 weeks after the phone started overheating and I took it to apple to find out why. The replaced the phone, then just about two months ago I found out my warranty only follows the original phone. Yay another 100 bucks in the thrash.

  • HT5569 Iphone 5 WIFI issue

I used to be able to connect to my home wifi with my iphone but recently I am unable to connect, as it says "unable to connect to network...". The other iphone in the house is also unable to connect but our ipods are able to. Any suggestions??
-I've already reset my iphone, forgot the network, and made sure the password was being entered right.

Try turning the router off at the wall for a few minutes and turn it back on and try again to connect

  • Another iphone 4s wifi issue question

other devices, including itouch, works with no issues but the iphone will not...tried resetting router and forgetting the network but nothing seems to be working...also tried renewing lease and hard resetting my phone...could this be an issue from updating to 5.1?...worked fine until i did the update 3 days ago
any help would be much appreciated

There is just a reset, which is similar to computer restart and is neither hard or soft - just a reset.
