Iphone 4s wifi option disabled.

Hi there,
My iphone 4s recently decided to disabled its wifi option. How do I enable it back?

You may have to  do a Reset All Settings.

Next step would be setting it up a new device without using the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt data causing your problem.

  • TS1398 After the 6.0.1. update on my iPhone 4s the option for wifi has greyed out and cannot be selected. What can I do to restore wifi?

I have held off updated my iPhone 4s with the 6.0.1 but having problems connecting to wifi I thought maybe being out of date was the problem.
Having done the update the wifi option is now greyed out and cannot be selected at all.  I have rebooted, forgotten networks and turned on and off so many times.  There is nothing wrong with the wifi at home as other devices connect no problem.  What can I do?

I'll repeat the Apple support pages linked in the previous post:

  • Is there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly?

    Greetings everybody,
I have run into a peculiar problem with the Safari browser on mobile platforms (IPad, IPod, IPhone) which I hope I can find a solution for in this community.
I just launched a new website where I sell products with certain variations, for example please view this link: http://www.finerribbon.com/aegean-single-face-satin-ribbon.html
On this particular product, the product variants are supposed to work in such a way where:
If you select the value "1/8" from the "Choose Ribbon Width" field
    THEN
The only options active and available to choose from in the "Choose Roll Size" field should be: 500 Yds, 20 Yds & Sample Swatch
Now, if we browse to the above link in Safari using a desktop or a laptop, there are no problems at all, but if we browse to the above link using an IPhone or an Ipad, then we have a problem where all the options are available regardless of the values chosen, basically the above functonality does not work.
I was told that there an issue with Safari in Iphones and Ipads where it does not recognize option disabled="disabled" tag properly, is this true? Can anyone advise me if there is a solution to this problem? I would sincerely apperciate it.
Thank you very much for your time and help!

  • Is there a location aware wifi option (or app) that enables wifi at a specific location (home) and automatically disables it when you are away from the specified location?

I manually turn off my wifi when leaving home for several reasons:
    1. I don't want my wifi to be on and constantly scanning wifi networks while I am away from home due to privacy reasons.  Many retail stores and airports are now tracking users based on their smartphone's wifi pings.  They can then store your phone's MAC address (the unique identifier of your phone) to determine how often you visit the store and where you go within the store.  It's just a matter of time before they match up your phone's MAC address with your credit card/payment info and then to your identity.  The only way to subvert this is to turn off your phone's wifi.
    2. For security reasons: Wifi access points can track devices that broadcast their wifi signal, even if they don't ever actually connect to the access point's network.  These access points can then store your device's details including your phone's MAC address.  Once your phone's MAC address is discovered, it can be targeted by a hacker.  In addition, there are multiple well known hacker tools that can be used to scan for smartphone wifi signals in order to detect and then hack your iphone.  Bottom line: if your wifi is discoverable, then your device is hackable.
    3. I believe it would save battery life if the iphone's wifi is not on and constantly scanning for networks all the time.
There are other reasons as well, but the above are my 3 main reasons for asking about this.
The reminders app is location aware - you can set reminders to alert you when you are at a specific location.  So, why not provide the option (or an app) to only enable wifi when you are at home - or any other location where you have an authorized or trusted wifi?
As it is right now, the iphone's wifi is broadcasting 24/7 everywhere you go.  Not great for privacy & security.  When I turn off my wifi, the phone uses my 4G plan for data and GPS for location services... so wifi is not needed at all for data or location services while I am away from home (and no, wifi does not improve location accuracy, that is a fallacy... there is nothing within the wifi protocol that could ever improve location accuracy).  But the point is, wifi should have a location aware option.  Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before there is a headline story about how not having this feature is a huge security/privacy problem.

Understood.  However, the point that I'm trying to make is that it's not the WiFi access point's security that's in question, it's having your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode that's in question.  It's simple: if your phone's WiFi is on, then it is both discoverable and hackable... even when it's not connected to a WiFi network or access point.  Here's an article about a drone in London that was created to hack smartphone WiFi signals (and hackers have been doing what this drone does for years):
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/20/technology/security/drone-phone/
The point is that it's not  secure to have your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode.  It would be better for privacy and security if Apple made WiFi location aware so that it is only enabled when you are at a trusted location (e.g. your home or office).  Or, at least give us the option of location aware WiFi so that each user can determine the best mode for their phone:
    (1) Always-On (current default - not secure and many privacy issues).
    (2) Trusted mode (only on at trusted locations).
    (3) Off.

  • IPhone has no wifi option, only WLAN

Under Setting in my iphone 4 (in China), I have no wifi option, only WLAN.  And the WLAN is not picking up any of the wifi networks that my husbands wifi picks up fine.  His phone has an option for wifi instead of WLAN.  Software update says I'm up to date, have tried restarting it a number of times.  What should I do?

Did you setup the iPhone or a store/carrier, etc?
Do you have very much material or content added to the iPhone?
If you have not added much if anything, and are comfortable resetting up the iPhone, an option is to go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings so the iPhone is back to factory, pristine condition and then set it all up again.  Unless there is something strange with this iPhone or the iOS on it, that should revert to the Apple iOS build.
But first, have you tried going to that sequence and selecting Reset Network Settings instead of the full erase?

Have you tried pressing the round button and the on/off switch at the top at the same time and holding them till an Apple icon appears?  If that doesn';t work, take it back, you are still under warranty.

  • Iphone 4s over heats, then wifi options greyed out

    Hi
this is my 2nd Iphone 4s in less that a year (luckily it was under guarantee). It keeps over heating and gets very hot at the back and top. After a while the wifi option fades and I can't connect to wifi. Have people had this happening twice? I have only had this 2nd phone for less than a month and it's just happened again! so I'm very worried as my guarantee runs out end of January.
My husband says is because I forget to close the apps properly and my son watches lots of videos on my phone. I think the phone should be able to take as much use as you want. Sounds like a fault in the phone to me. Something goes loose when it overheats and the wifi stops working somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

took it to apple and they gave me another new phone. Just don't know how to avoid this happening again as I don;t know what causes it. Anyone has any ideas?

  • Wifi option is become unavailable on my iphone?

My iphone suddenly stopped wifi and when I went into the seetings its shadowed greay so I cannot access the wifi options screen even? I have restored factory settings and reset network settings and still nothing? any suggestions?

I had that happen to an old 3G it was out of warranty and Apple store said there was nothing they could do. Its a faulty connection. If you've got warranty still you can get the phone replaced.

down very quickly my battery iphone 5 hard as I tell you. nothing lasts me over a day with disabled wifi locator disabled why?

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    maybe this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
