Iphone 4s wifi suddenly stopped connecting to home network

My iphone 4s suddenly stopped connecting to my home wifi 2 weeks ago, now it won't even bring it up on the list of available networks. I have tried resetting network settings, have tried manually connecting but it says "unable to locate network". Why would this all of a sudden start doing this when I have had this phone for over a year. My husbands iphone 4 has no problems whatsoever and connects to our home network just fine so I know it is not the router. This is so frustrating

I'm currently suffering from this problem as well. If you or your husband can get your iPhone open, there may be a screw in the upper antenna area of the iPhone that is loose (this screw grounds the antenna to the chip/mainboard).
http://www.iphoneshopusa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/top-shield-iphone4- wifi-problem1.png
It's pointed out in the image above. Many have tightened the screw and said their Wi-Fi optimally again. Having a phone for a year does mean a lot of wear-and-tear: dropping, vibration, heat, all accumulate so that the delicate components inside get knocked around and, in this case, loose. Try this method! (If you can, of course.)
Good luck!

  • HT1976 iPhone 5 has suddenly stopped connecting to the internet away from home

My iPhone 5 has suddenly stopped connecting to the internet when away from home. It was fine last Wednesday, then on Thursday all I got was 'Safari is no longer connected to the internet'. I cannot use the Messaging, Find my Friends etc.
As far as I know I have not done anything to alter any settings, but I did change my password on Wednesday - which works, so I think that's OK.
Has anyone any idea what is happening?

  • IPhone WiFi will not connect to home network.

iPhone will not connect to home network.  WiFi is on and correct password is entered.  iPhone error msg says incorrect password.  Reloaded network software and did not activate password but iPhone still shows network as locked.

Some people who experience issues connecting to or even seeing there Wireless network should follow these steps.
These steps are just a guideline and its not 100% that it will fix your issue.
Mainly, if the issue persists, its possible there is an issue with your iOS settings or a hardware failure within your iPhone or iPad, specifically the Wifi adapter.
You would want to follow these articles to do a reset & restore prior to saying it is a hardware issue.
    #1: Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    #2: Restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
You will need to access your Admin control panel for your router.
If you have an Airport Extreme BaseStation, you just need to open the Airport Admin Utility found in Applications > Utilities Folder.
Enter your credentials and you will have access to the settings from there.
For a PC: Do NOT use the CD that came with your router. That is used for people who do not know how to setup a router properly and these settings will not be available for you in most cases.
If you are using anything other than an Airport BaseStation:
    Open a web browser:
    In the address bar, type:
192.168.1.1 (Mainly used for Asus, Linksys, etc) or 192.168.0.1 (D-link,Belkin)
How to figure out what the IP address is to type in?
    Windows:
Hold down the windows key, then press R. This brings up the run box. In that box type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press enter. In the black box that pops up, type "ipconfig" (without quotes) then hit enter. Your default gateway is the IP address for your router. It will start with 192.168.....
Take that number and put it into the address bar in your browser and hit enter. It will then ask you for a user name and password. For linksys, it's admin for both. If you have another brand, just google "default password for ******" replacing the asterisks with the brand name of the router. Once you have entered the correct user name and password, you're there.
    Mac:
1.From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
2.In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.
3.Select the appropriate port. For example, choose Ethernet for broadbandconnections, AirPort for wireless, or Internal Modem for dial-up.
4.Click Advanced... , and in the sheet that opens, click the TCP/IP tab.
The number next to "Router:" is your default gateway.
Once you get into your admin panel do these setting changes.
1.On the router change the channel for the 2.4mhz band to channel 1, 6, or 11 (recommended), rather than auto.
2.Also set that channel width to 20hz only, rather than 20hz or 40hz (Auto)
3.Make sure Security is set to WPA/WPA2-Personal. Anything else will cause issues. (of course, make sure you know your password for security)
4.Make sure to Apply/Save these settings. Sometimes the wireless connectivity will go out during this change and will come back on within 15-30 seconds.
5.On the iPhone/iPad go to Settings > Wi fi > click the blue arrow beside the network > Select Forget network
6.Go to Settings > general > reset > reset network settings
7.Power the phone off and on. Connect again

  • IPhone 4S suddenly stopped connecting to home WiFi

    Hey all,
So I've had my iPhone for probably about 4 months, and up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago, WiFi was working fine on it. Then, one day, I left home and came back a few hours later, and I couldn't connect to the home network. I can still see the network, and it comes up with the signal strength and everything seems normal, but then I go to connect and a message pops up saying "Unable to join network [Home]".
There're 9 other devices on our router, which are an iPhone 4, an iPhone 3GS, an iPod touch, an Apple TV, a windows laptop, an iMac, a MacBook, an ipad, and a PS3.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I can access other WiFi networks.

  • IPhone 4 suddenly stopped connecting with home wireless network

Upon getting a new wifi router, initially my iPhone 4 connected. Last night I lost wifi conneciton on it and cannot get it back. Updated to IOS 7.1 to see if it would help. Nothing. Have reset network setings, gone into airplane mode and attempted hard restart. Have also reset modem. The phone worked on another wireless network and all other devices in our house are working fine. Does anyone have any insights/ had this problem before? House network is Bell Fibe.
The phone can see the wirless network but when we go to connect it infinetly spins.
    Thanks!!

  • WiFi -  unable to connect to home network

I had a problem syncing and iTunes not recognizing my iPod touch, (and my new iPad). Did a restore on the iPod Touch and that solved the syncing problem, now I cannot connect to the WiFi in my home, (cannot connect with my new iPad either). I have a Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router Model WRT160N. I am dying to connect the new iPad and get it up and running, etc. Can anyone help me solve the "Unable to connect to (my home network's name)".

Use G band, not N. I encountered a lot of problems with my new router on wireless N. Here is a reply I wrote for the other posts about iPad connectivity problems:
I have the base iPad 16gb Wi-Fi model and it was connecting to wifi fine. A few days ago I had to get a new modem/router. I bought a netgear dual band model (G and N) and used wireless "N" on my my two MacBooks and my iPad.
Two days ago I started getting the "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." error on the iPad along with the schizophrenic signal strength bars going from three, to one, to two, to disappearing totally, to whatever, and Safari not opening pages and sometimes crashing, and when it would connect running slower than molasses.
My laptops worked fine, seeing both G and N and working equally well regardless of which I chose.
I did all the jumping thru hoops I have read on this and various forums and that Apple suggested back in April with naming each band on the router differently but with same security settings, renewing lease on Safari, reseting iPad, resetting network settings, turning auto connect off, etc., etc., etc, none of it worked.
So I started to wonder . . . does the iPad even work with "N" . . . the Apple site says "yes", but I wondered . . . what happens if I have the iPad ignore "N" and connect only with "G".
Guess what . . . that fixed the problem.
I went into Settings > WiFi > and told it to "Forget this Network" for the "N" band and then selected the "G" band.
    Problems gone.
If you're experiencing the connection problems I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you're trying to use wireless "N". Have it ignore that band and use "G".

  • Wifi refuses to connect to home network

    Hello,
I have upgraded to Mountain Lion. Wifi is working well except at home.
    - The wifi connects to my home network. However fails to make connection to ISP and Internet.
    - Other laptops, iPhones and Macbook (not running on Mountain Lion) connect.
    - I can connect to any other wifi network without a problem.
    - No issues on via LAN connection
    Tried:
    - deleting home network from wifi locations
    - clean install mountain lion (2x)
    - change router settings (channel, MTU, n+g+ b, etc)
    - resetting PRAM / SMC ...
    Open for suggestions.
    Thanks,

  • Wifi can't connect to home network but can to school network and via ethernet

My MBP cannot connect to any of my home networks (we have three, same ISP but not the same security) but it can connect to my unsecured school network and to my home network via ethernet cable. Other devices can connect to the network, including my iPhone, my fathers machines... etc.
I spent an hour on the phone with apple care and tried a large variety of things...
Changing my DNS settings to add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
deleting the .plist settings in my system config folder
    running diagnostics 500 times
    restarting
    reinstalling mt.lion (without wipe)
    restarting the router
    and a lot more.
Basically, it says I have full internet access and diagnostics tells me there is nothing wrong. Green light and everything but not a single program can connect to the internet while I can connect to home based servers.
I cannot ping anything and I cannot access any websites using either their IP or their domain name.
Needless to say, this has been getting quite frusterating and I'm running out of ideas.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results.

  • Airport Extreme won't let devices...iPhone, iPod, Nook and Kindle connect to home network anymore. Why?

Everything was working great until last week. Not sure what happened. My TV went blank, DVR shut off and iMac and Macbook Pro lost internet. I was able to finally get my computer and laptop to work, not so lucky with my other devices. Our family has iPhones, a Droid, iPods, Nook and most recently a Kindle Fire. None of which will now connect into my home network.iPhone connects to work network just fine. Just keep getting the little wheel with no luck at home.
I've reset my Airport Extreme back to factory settings....no luck. Reset my iPhone back to factory settings.....no luck. Looks like it keeps getting stuck and tripped up, but I can't figure out why.
I was told to change the band from N to G, but I'm not sure that's the best option from what I've been reading. Plus I can't even find where I could change it!
Looking for guidance on what to check for and what I should have selected in my network preferences and Airport Utility for optimal use.
My modem is connected to my Airport which is hardwired to my computer via ethernet.
Running myself in circles, help!? Thanks!

I have a feeling you may be stuck in bridge mode there...
Factory reset the Extreme (so we don't second guess later), and re-set up the extreme using iOS5 on your iPhone.
Set up your Wi-Fi network with your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac.

  • Wifi suddenly stopped connecting

Last night I noticed that my Ipod wasn't connected to my wifi. Strange, it always is and I never did anything to change it. It showed I had bars, but was unable to connect online. I tried unplugging my Airport Base Station for 30 seconds but that didn't solve the problem either. When I woke up I noticed that sometime during the night it must have worked, as I got a few pushed notifications from my email, games and Facebook, but the bar was now gone and NOW, when I try to connect (by going to settings / Wi-Fi and selecting my wifi network) I get this message: "Unable to join the network" and my only option is to dismiss.
Is this an issue with Apple or me cuz I don't understand why I'm suddenly having this issue.
I have my router and computer connected to the Base station - (router includes my 2 computers and 2 TiVos) they are all working fine. I'm just having issues with the wifi and my iPod Touch.
    Rebecca

Ok, very strange - as I read your reply I looked down at my base and noticed that the two lights on either side of the center light were now flashing. Hmmm. Then looked at my iPod and I was connected again. I did nothing as I was awaiting a reply from someone. Must have been an Apple issue. Cuz there is nothing else that explains this.
Thanks Lunieri! Appreciate the fast reply.
In anwer to your question - I guess not - I originally had my (old) computer connected wirelessly with the base, but with my current one I just have it connected with the ethernet into the base. No need for wireless as I'm not going to be moving it around at anytime. Plus, I need 4 ethernet cnnection for a router and my base only has 2.
    Thanks again.

  • IPhone 4s suddenly stopped connecting to 3G network

I have been using my phone all day, on imessage with a few people.
My 3G network was working perfectly fine earlier today until about 2 hours ago when I noticed the messages I was sending were no longer being sent to the people I was talking to.
The 3G network symbol no longer appears in the left corner of my screen. I have full bars and I am connected to wi-fi but none of my messages will send to anyone. Also, Facebook, Twitter, and some other apps say I have no connection too.
I have no idea what's wrong. I've rebooted my phone a couple times, turned the 3G network on and off, reset my network settings.. still nothing seems to be working.
If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know.
    Thank you.

    Hi ejd:
Thanks for posting your troubleshooting steps. The auto-configure option generally works fine, but occasionally, it will not configure Wi-Fi networks automatically.  You can follow the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398 There's a segment that shows how to manually configure the Wi-Fi connection called "If you're unable to locate or join a nearby Wi-Fi network.
Give those steps a try, and let us know your results.  You may need to call your Internet provider for help on locating your Wi-Fi settings on your computer.

  • My IPhone and iPad stopped connecting to home wifi. Other devices still connect.

My Iphone and IPad just stopped connecting to home Wifi; other divices still work including my IMac

Try resetting your wireless router and modem.
Disconnect the wireless router from the power source followed by disconnecting the modem from the power source. Wait 5 minutes followed by reconnecting the modem to the power source and allow the modem to completely reset before reconnecting the wireless router to the power source.

  • Hello my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi

Hello to all, with my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi. This only happens if I apply protection to the network. Unprotected my Iphone connects fine. Obviously the password to write error-free. I can not figure out what depends on this factor, however, another iphone connects fine. Help me please.

I have a similar, but slightly different problem. My iphone 4 recgonizes my home wifi and shows it under Settings, but will not access it, no signal shown, just 3G.  It will access other wifi signals.  My wife's iphone works fine, as does an ipad and macbook.  This is new for my iphone, about 2-3 days.
Help!  I reset network settings and rebooted the router (Apple), no avail

  • Macbook Pro suddenly stops connecting to wifi

So yesterday, my macbook pro suddenly stopped connecting to any wifi sources at all. Instead after trying to connect, it just gives me the icon with the ! mark, saying that there is no connection made. I've tried multiple routers/sources, and they all don't work. The only reason I'm even connected to the internet right now is through tethering via usb (when I try to make my phone a hotspot, my computer doesn't read it, of course).
Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?
My software is up to date, completely. Macbook Pro, 2010 model, OS X Lion 10.7.3
