IPhone 4s won't charge or turn on

II've had my iPhone 4s for a year and 3 months so it is out of warranty. It was working fine yesterday, it died yesterday evening and when I put it on charge it was coming up with the empty battery like normal as if it was charging but not getting any more charge. I left it over night and still didn't turn on. Today I've tried loads of different chargers USB wires, everything. It's not registering when I plug it into a computer but still coming up with the empty battery! I've tried everything I can think of has anyone got any suggestions?
i am desperate for it to work as it is the only way I have of contacting my partner who is serving in the Falklands at the moment! I don't care if my phone gets wiped or anything I just need to be able to use face time and get my emails on my phone!! I definitely can not afford to buy another iPhone atm!
any help would be much appreciated!!
thanks!!

tthanks, I've tried this but still just the empty battery sign

My iphone 5 won't charge at all while turned on. I have to turn off my phone in order to charge it. I can't really use my phone now because of the iPhone 5 battery life. I need help!

You are going to have t take that to the apple store . Make a Genius Bar appointment and they will help you. Most likely they will give you a new phone. Hope this helps

  • IPhone 4 won't charge, connect, turn on...

The other night I had my phone plugged in to charge and I kept hearing it turn on and off. I woke up and took it off the charger and all it displayed was the flashing red battery with the charging lightening bolt.
Now it will not connect, hold a charge or turn on. iTunes doesn't recognize it, I've left it plugged in for hours and nothing changes. I can't reset it by holding the home and lock buttons down. I've tried leaving it plugged in and restarting my computer but nothing will power it on. I've tried my wall charger, car charger and MacBook Pro but nothing will get it to turn on. Any help would be fantastic!

A solution I found else where is to:
Connect the iPhone to your computer, Itunes wont acknowlege the phone at this stage.
Now put the phone in to DFU mode(see this link for an explanation of how to do it, few button clicks but it will answer any questions you might have: http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/24/iphone-dfu-mode-explained-and-how-to-enter-dfu-mo de-on-your-iphone/).
iTunes will now recognise the iPhone in DFU mode, giving you the option to factory reset the device with the latest iOS update
This happened to me yesterday while using an iPhone 4 I purchased a year ago that was running iOS 4.1. At the time of writing the latest iOS is 5.0.1 which my phone is running fine with no further issues. Of course if you dont have your data backed up you stand to lose some stuff, but the phone will run fine and iCloud which comes with iOS 5 will prevent future data loss. Hope this saves someone some time searching the internet or a trip to their local apple shop.

  • IPhone 5c won't charge whilst turned on.

    Hi guys,
First time on the forum. I seem to think i know what i'm doing with iPhones but i don't haha.
Right problem is my iPhone 5c will die, then i will plug it in when its dead and it will charge till the 5% then will turn on. Once turned on it will not charge and no matter how I manipulate the charger it will not charge until it dies again then will charge till 5% and then not charge. And over and over.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello m_francis96,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Please follow the troubleshooting in the steps below to resolve this issue of your phone not turning on unless it is connected to power.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • IPhone 5 won't charge

iPhone 5 won't charge.  Turned on and off, any other ideas?

Try different charger, try different cable, try different USB port on the computer. Do a reset on the device, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. Once the device restarts, try again.
If none of that works, then contact Apple Care, the local Apple Store, or your Authorized Apple Service Center, depending on your location to get the hardware checked.

  • Iphone 5C won't charge, turn on OR go into recovery or DFU mode. What's happened?

My work phone (iPhone 5C) was working perfectly (never had a problem charging it or any other problem) last week until I let it run out of charge. When I charged it yesterday (left it on charge all night) it won't charge or turn on. It also won't reset (power button & home button) and it won't enter recovery mode or DFU mode. I know my charger is working as it chargers my partner's iPhone no problem.
It was working perfectly so I'm not sure what has happened that means it won't turn on. I have a complete black screen that doesn't change at all - no apple logo, no symbol to tell me it needs to be charged, nothing - just a black screen.
Can anyone help or explain what might have happened? Please! Thank you
Update - Also, obviously my computer does not recognise that anything is plugged in.

It would seem like a hardware failure
I would take it into an Apple store or authorized reseller for further trouble shooting

Try cleaning out the phone's connector.  Else take it in to Apple, you have a 1 year warranty.

Apple Does Not recommend that. Please Read.

    From that article
    "Portables with built-in batteries"
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple recommend calibrating the battery when you buy a new Macbook and then every few months, or monthly if it used on mains all the time. This, as Apple says is to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency. When the battery discharges and shuts the macbook down, it still has reserve power for a good number of hours. There is also a logic board battery to hold various settings.
I rather think I will take Apples advice on using their equipment not yours, but I would be intrigued to discover what is it you know that Apple doesnt about its batteries?

  • My iphone 5 won't charge anymore

my iphone 5 won't charge anymore

    Hello Angelpz11,
I recommend this from our iPhone: Hardware Troubleshooting article found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802:
Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter
Important: Only original iPhone can be charged from a FireWire-based power source. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
Also refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery.

  • IPhone 5 won't charge when plugged into lightning connector one way but if it flips then it works

My iPhone 5 won't charge when it's plugged into the lightning connector one way but if I flip it then it works. It's not my charger because it's the same way with other chargers. What's wrong with my phone?

  • Iphone 5 won't charge, just blinks charge screen

iphone 5 won't charge, just blinks charge screen?

    Hey there 100ire,
It sounds like your iPhone is not turning on at all and just blinks an orange screen at you rather than booting. I would use these steps from the following article specifically, named:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),  reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Iphone 5 won't charge after being dead for three days.

Iphone 5 won't charge after being dead for three days due to power cable breaking. I got a new cable and it still will not charge. Is my phone broken in any way? What can I do to fix this?

    Hey TalkBack12,
These are the recommended troubleshooting steps I found for when your battery does not charge:
    Battery does not charge
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
via: iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
Since you got a new cable, I would concentrate on trying a cable other than the new one.

  • Ipad won't charge unless turned off

My iPad 2 won't charge unless turned off and in some cases not at all.  It does this off and on.  Typically, it'll stop charging when turned on and I can turn it off and charge it to over 40% (or so. . . .it varies) and then it will charge the rest of the way while turned on. And then, I can go through long periods --maybe a month-- where it will charge as usual (while on) but then suddenly it will stop charging while on and will only do so when off.  This back and forth has gone on for several months. Today it stopped charging even when off.  Given history, it might kick in and start charging suddenly but I fear that the battery could run out this time and I'll not be able to charge and restart it. I'm at 20%.  I am using the iPad 10W charger and I have a new one so the cord is good and it works to charge my iPhone as well.  I have also tried rebooting the system, holding down the home and start button.  Anyone have experience with this and a solution?

you can also try the universal troubleshooting step of resetting your iPad. No data is lost so don't worry.
You can reset your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

My Iphone still won't charge even after I had tried plugging it in and waiting then restarting it, it still showed up on the screen that it has to be charged, even when it was in the USB port. I tried plugging it into the wall, a computer, I even switched out the USB cables but it still wouldn't charge. Help me please

    Hello Isabellap,
It sounds like your iPhone 4S is not charging when plugged in.  I found an article with some steps that might help with this.  I recommend reviewing the steps in the sections titled "Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter" and "Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off" in the following article:
