Iphone 5 - all deleted emails have reappeared in inbox.  Why?

Travelling around the USA and have been deleting redundant emails from my phone and ipad.  Last night, nearly 400 deleted emails have reappeared in my iphone inbox.   Not in my ipad, just my iPhone 5.
Why and is this likely to keep occurring?
Wonder what I can do to prevent this?
Thanks

my wife just had this same problem develop with her iPad 2 (not with her iPhone  or our iMac, all using the same email client, Comcast/Xfinity's webmail (which I dislike for lots of other reasons as well). My wife and I share the same address and the problem isn't happening on my iPhone5.
Re-booting the iPad hasn't helped and I haven't tried a reset, but that didn't work for you. Have you had any success with fixing the problem? It's very frustrating. I've posted the same question on an Xfinity forum, but have no responses yet.

hi Guys, i mistakenly synced my iphone and all my email contacts appears in my contacts list. its mixed up. can someone please assist me on how to delete the email address ONLY?

Don't understand your problem... Contacts sync with a compatible address book or cloud service. Contact records can contain names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, notes, or any combination of these. If you have records you don't want in your address book that you don't want in your contacts, then segregate them into groups in your address book and only sync the group(s) you want. If you don't want them there at all, then delete them.

Have an 'other' email set up on iPhone 4s; cannot delete or move messages from inbox. Help?

    Try resetting the iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
If the does not work then delete that email account and set it up again,
Settings > Mail > select the account > delete account.
Take a note of the account settings before doing this to help you set it up again.

  • Is there a way to delete all my email messages in my inbox at once?

Is there a way to delete all my email messages in my inbox in one move, rather than selecting one at a time, then deleting?

You CAN delete all your email.  Here's how: >> Open Inbox >> Edit  >> Check/select the top message; it will highlight the move button. >> Press and hold the move button and uncheck the message that you had checked earlier. >> Lift all your fingers off from the ipad screen and leave it alone. Wait until all your messages pile up on the right hand portion of the screen (in ipad); iphone will give you the actual number of emails it has selected for the action. Now they are just waiting for your command to be moved ALL at once. >> Choose trash to delete all of them or any other folder where u want to move them, like one piece. Remember this will replicate your action on the server so you will ACTUALLY move them or delete them on the server and not just the ipad. Once you have moved all messages to the trash you can either leave them there for the scheduled cleaning or empty it right away by doing this: go to trash folder and touch Edit. The Delete All button shows up at the bottom of the screen. Hit it! You’re done! If you do not see the effects of your actions on the server make sure you have enabled your email accounts for such actions.

  • Deleted emails keep reappearing-GoDaddy delay the cause.. How to relocate to gmail?

For 4 months my deleted emails keep reappearing 3-5 times.  After 4 consultations with my web and mail host, GODaddy and 4 with Apple Geniuses and both blaming the other, An Apple trainer opined, and a GoDaddy supervisor Reluctlantly confirmed that there is a long delay in GoDaddy when I delete email in MAIL. Go Daddy sup admitted that they have had this problem for the same period I have been going crazy with it.  He suggested that since they did not know when it would be fixed that I move my email accounts (not my web sites) from GoDaddy to Gmail, but not to do itmyself, or I might lose much!  Apple genius does not wan to do it, nor does GoDaddy!  Any suggestions?

    Thank you, Ernie.
These are all IMAP.  I see trash on the server and on MAIL.  deletine Trash used to work from MAIL, but in last 4 months, if I want something to take effect, I work from the web mail of go daddy and MAIL gets the message.
So you suggest I go to Gmail and set up accounts ( I assume they  will walk me through )  (starting from my current gmail acct that my android uses-- or start from scratch?)  to receive email addressed to my current email addresses?  Then by not transfering out of goDaddy, I won't lose lots of email and mail files, folders in the transition?
There is a discussion on this topic of GoDaddy delays, from 2010 and 2011. So I may not be alone with the problem now.
    Best,
    Gayle

I have downloaded IOS7 on my iPhone and all calendar events have disappeared. The general functions of the calendar have changed and are definitely not 'user friendly'. How can I retrieve my calendar events. Will Apple improve the calendar function or revert to the previous system. Even the typing function on IOS 7 is faulty - very slow to respond to the keyboard. I no longer enjoy using my iPhone. Can anyone assist. Thank you

Very strange! All of my calendar events have reappeared. This has happened one week after downloading iOS 7
The calendar however,  is not easy to use.
The typing function on the phone has  become even slower. Have to wait for each letter to show on screen.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Deleted emails greyed out in Inbox

    Hi,
I have absolutely no idea how it happened but i have suddenly got upwards of 1000 deleted emails showing in my Inbox, greyed-out. I cant move them or do anything else with them, much less remove them.
I tried Cmd-Z when it happened, nothing happened, then I listed them by sender (Facebook) and tried to move them to Trash  with no luck either.
    Anyone got a suggestion?
    Helen.

One more thing to try, but make sure you have your Mail folder backed up. You already did, so no need to do it again. But also make a backup copy of the Mail Downloads folder as well. It's nearby.
Navigate to your Home Folder Library, this time to Preferences, and move the file com.apple.mail.plist to the Trash. Important, don't empty the Trash. If this doesn't work you can use File>Put Back to restore everything the way it was.
Doing this will bring you to the initial Mail setup and you will have to redo all your accounts, rules, mailboxes, whatever. Before doing this, it's probably a good idea to make screenshots of everything you will need again (Cmd-Shift-4) It's a PITA, but it may fix the problem. All your mail messages should be intact, but if there's a problem along the way, you just use Put Back for that .plist file. And, you have the Mail and Mail Downloads folders backed up, which you would move/drag back to their original locations.

  • Deleted emails keep reappearing on iPhone

Ever since updating to iOS 4.2.1, I'm having a problem with deleted emails reappearing on my iPhone 3G.
I have deleted these emails a dozen times. They are also deleted from the server, so they're not being re-downloaded.
I have rebooted and reset the phone. I have deleted and re-created the email account. The emails keep coming back. I have about 25 of them now and they just won't go away, like zombies back from the dead.
My email is a POP account at comcast.net. (IMAP is apparently not available for this account.)
Any ideas on how to permanently expunge these deleted emails?

I too am losing my mind. Tried initial reboot, etc. Then last night restored and reloaded/synced. On my POP account (earthlink) I continue to get it repopulating every time I delete an email. My resetting everything effectively wiped out my accrued emails which was fine since I pick them up on my laptop or via web if need be. But the 4 new emails CANNOT STAY DELETED!
So restoring wasn't an effective option.

  • Upgraded to v6 iphone software, all my contacts have gone, and I can't connect to my email.  Other web pages seem ok.  Help!

    Hi
Can anyone help me?  Since upgrading to v6 of the iphone software the other day, all my contacts have gone, and I can't connect to orange contacts restore to get them back, or access my email. Other web pages seem ok.
When I try to connect to the orange backup app, the connection just times out and says connection error.  When I try to access my email it says verify i have put the correct a/c info into mail settings.
Both things were fine before I updated.
    Help!

    Good luck!

  • Deleted emails always reappear

    deleted emails reappear

It looks like you're storing all of your messages on your computer rather than on the email server. Which means that when you connect, it copies all of the emails to your computer and mirrors them to the server; so when you delete them off of your computer and then reconnect it just downloads them again.
My guess is that you're connecting via POP3 rather than IMAP. POP3 requires the emails to be downloaded to the computer in order to be viewed and cannot directly edit what is on the server itself, wheras connecting via IMAP stores exclusively to the server and mirrors the folder configuration.
If that's the problem you would likely need to manually configure your email accounts again and using IMAP, provided your email host has IMAP capability. If it does you should be able to find the server settings and perhaps even instructions on configuring with IMAP. Check your email in a browser and find the server settings. You may have to hunt around a bit or contact your email client's support.
    Hope this helps! :-)
If this doesn't work, repost and we'll see if we can't find a different solution.

  • Spotlight on Iphone 4 showing deleted emails

When I use spotlight for various searches, it shows email messages which I have already deleted. Although when you select them it takes you to the folder the message was originally stored in, but the message is not there.
The messages are not in any trash folder or deleted messages folder either on the iphone itself or on the server. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a POP account or IMAP account.
There are also a number of messages which can be read - these seem to be ones that I have written or started to write, but not actually sent (could have been saved as a draft - but again nothing in the draft folders). You get taken to and can read the full email from being selected in spotlight, but is not stored anywhere in my mail folders.
I'm running the latest version of iOS 5.1.
Is there anyway to either reset the spotlight cache, or delete the cache to remove all these "deleted" emails from spotlight. I have searched many forums, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Andy

I was able to contact a company that has a similar app as ierase.  Now I understand the issue.  These programs do overwrite "free space."  But, WITHIN various apps, including email, there are files that basically point you to the data by saving a line or two (in the case of emails) in the application itself.  This is called a "cache." These files live in the apps, not the free space.   It's important because that's how computers know how to "remember" stuff for you so you can search, etc.    BIG BUT:  iPhone does not allow you to remove the cache or specific items from it.  Android phones seem to have this setting.  Your computer has this capability.  But your iphone does not.  The only way to remove information from the cache is to do a complete restore and not back up with iTunes.  Puleese tell me if I'm wrong.
Think of it as a file cabinet.  The top drawer has the operating system files that don't get touched unless there is an update of the operating system, e.g. to 5.1.1.  The second drawer contains all your applications, with subfolders for each one.  The subfolders contain a whole lotta flags (often called placeholders).  These flags say: go to file drawer 3 and look up such and such.  File drawer 3 i is your free space where all the stuff you do is stored.  If you go to file drawer 2 and remove the flags, the system doesn't where to look for stuff in file drawer 3. You can add and remove files from drawer 3, or zero out the data, but the flags are still hanging around in drawer 2.  You get my drift. I'm so right brained...
This is my basic understanding of why this problem is so widespread.  It would be nice if Apple could allow cache editing.

  • Iphone 5 is deleting emails from server since upgrade to 7.02

since upgrading to ios 7.02 (iphone 5) my emails are being deleted from the server even though it is mark never.
Have lost a huge amount of emails especially as I went through the fiasco when the first upgrade decided to downlood all my emails from the server including the older ones. (Now these are not available on the server since the 7.02 upgrade).
Emails have also been deleted from my mac which is synced some how.
I used to keep my inbox on iphone 5 lean and my inbox on imac complete but it not seems that I can not do this.
    This is crazy.
I use this for my business and losing important emails is not funny.
ps No more upgrades for me. (Phone or Software - will be looking elsewhere when changing phone)
How can I stop this happening and how can I get my mail back?
    Thank you
    Kirk

    Hi ChrisJ4203,
    Thank you for your response.
It seems that others have been hit with this issue.
I note the issue of the old emails being downloaded because the server after the upgrade thought that it was a new device.
I resolved this by deleting the old emails from the phone. (ios7.1) which did not delete from server even though as you stated imap configuration is designed to do this.
The reason that it did not delete from the server is that I set my email account on the iphone 5 to never delete from server.
Which is what I want as I wanted to keep the old emails on my server for reference ( I even pay extra to my hosting company for the extra storage of emails ) and not have thousands of emails on my iphone.
However when I upgraded to ios7.2 even though no changes to email acounts were made by me it deleted the emails from my imac and also from my server.
It seems that somehow the phone was being signed into the server as new device orginally when it was upgraded to ios 7.1 and even though I deleted the the thousands of emails from the phone it did not delete from the server as I had set the account on the phone as never delete from server.
When I upgraded to ios7.2 it seems that the phone remembered the old emails that were deleted and ignored the setting I had chosen to never delete from the server which resulted in the old emails being deleted from server which of course I did not want.
Some of the emails I needed went back as far as 2007.
The setting chosen to not delete emails on server after upgrade to ios7.2 is still ticked but seems to ignore it.
This is unacceptable that a phone upgrade can create this havoc. ( These are my business emails which I no longer have)
I have invested some £10,000 on apple products and this is how they repay me.
Will not be buying an iphone again.
    Apologies for the rant Chris.
But many thanks for your effort in trying to come up with a solution.
I will just have to keep all my emails on my iphone until I change my phone.
