  • Apple Mobile Device Ethernet fails to install

    Hi,
I have tried to install on my laptop running Windows 7 the "Apple Mobile Device Ethernet" driver several times, but each time, I get an error message saying that there's not enough system resources to complete the requested service. All other iPhone features run just fine (synchronising, copy, ...).
I already desinstalled and re-installed iTunes and all others apple software. I also deactivated my antivirus (Avast) during the installation, but nothing works.
Can somebody tell me how to proceed?
Thank you in advance for your help,
    François Chalumeau

Most people these days dont have an "additional" landline.
Perhaps it's a result of having T-Mobile for so long, or I'm just paranoid, but I'm used to my cell not being terribly reliable (where I live is also a factor) so I guess I hang on to the landline just in case I should need to make an emergency phone call, and just don't have the time to power cycle a mobile.
Also casper, please dont use the word likely if you are confident .....they just dont go together well.
My confidence is a result of my never having an issue with Apple hardware/software that wasn't eventually resolved in some capacity. I'm not an Apple engineer, so I can't really come out and say "Apple will have a new copy of the installer file in 72 hours," now, can I?
This issue is not a Vista problem. I can easily open and run 32bit itunes8. My windows installer is fine and everyone else that gets this pop up is fine too. My concern is why is this working on so many other 64 bit vista machines. Can anyone explain a possible reason for this?
I think the obvious suggestion is that perhaps there is an issue, if not life threatening or immediately evident, with the machines it won't work on. If the installer file is broken, I would think it wouldn't install on any computer, anywhere, ever. I don't think the issue is "You have Vista, you're screwed." I wouldn't really suggest that, because I don't think someone would shell out money for a machine with an OS that doesn't meet their wants and needs. And while Vista does have issues, so does XP and so does OS X.

  • Itunes will not install. I get the error message "Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\com.apple.IE.client_main.dll     Verify that you have access to that directory."

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Iphone apple mobile device service error

    Hello,
I recently restored my computer back to factory settings, however since I have done this I cannot get itunes to work with my iphone 3g (which in turn is currently not able to send text messages), i assume it needs some sort of update. Though i'm not sure yet cause i need to get past the problem of linking my iphone to my computer first.
When I plug the iphone in i get the message "this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started".
so far having read advice on the internet i have tried
    - going into control panel-->administrative tools--->services and tried to start from there which brings up the message
"the apple mobile device service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance logs and alert services"
    - i have tried this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275
    - i have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling itunes several times (probably about 6 times now).
    - note, i have uninstalled/disabled all firewalls, virus checkers etc.
i am also now getting an error message that Bonjour won't install properly on the last few reinstallations, which i'm not really bothered about it at the moment, as i'm not sure it will cause me any problems.
last thing to note - first time i installed itunes after restoring my computer, it came to a screen and asked if i want to download 3 things. One was quicktime, another was safari and the 3rd i can't remember. I opted to download safari and quicktime but not the 3rd. However I have the feeling it was something to do with apple mobile device service, and by choosing not to download it is the source of all my problems with itunes.
Everytime i reinstall itunes i cannot get back to this screen, thus i have no safari. So if anyone knows how to get to that screen then please advise.
Sorry for long post but this is doing my head in, i have spent so much time on it. Seriously don't know what to do other than restore my computer back to factory settings.

  • Plugged my new iPad in and message reads "the apple mobile device service is not started" how do I fix that?

    No clue what to do..

If you're using windows XP which I see below the post, then you need to start the AMDS manually, heres a link on how to:
    http://www.crainbandy.com/software/fix-the-iphone-apple-mobile-device-has-not-be en-started-error
If you're not on XP then just look on Google: "start apple mobile device service manually"

  • Apple Mobile Device service is not started...boring I know but tried everyt

I have the lastest version of iTunes - 10.1.1.4 - I have thie above problem again and again, my new iPhone will not connect to itunes and neither will my iPod Touch. "Apple Mobile device service is not started"...uninstalled itunes a AMDS 3 times now, changed to "automatic" startup yet I am still have the same problem??
However, when I plug it into my work laptop running iTunes 10.1.0.56 it connects perfectly.....it also downloaded iPhone software 4.2.1 which is now installed but still i have this issue with my other PC???
    Please, please help......

If you have tried to set the service to automatic:
    http://www.crainbandy.com/software/fix-the-iphone-apple-mobile-device-has-not-be en-started-error
    http://www.ehow.com/how6006577start-apple-mobile-device-service.html
Then how about adding it to your startup process? Add the Apple Mobile Device in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and see if it solves the problem.
Also, you might want to set your usb hub to not enter power savings mode, so power is always provided to the device(s):
right click my computer, click properties, click hardware, click device manager, click universal serial bus controllers, right click usb root hub, click properties, click power management, uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

  • ITunes 10.2 Upgrade fix temporary. Fix to iTunes 10.2.2 by uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and install AMDS from 10.0. Worked only to fail in 5 days. iTunes back to very slow to open and will not see device (iPhone) connected. Sorry

I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

    Hi Erik,
Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
    1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
    2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
    3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
    4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
    5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
    6. REBOOT your PC.
    7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
    8. Plug in your iPhone.
If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.
    Goodluck all!
    Cheers.

Did "everything" include this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275, which says:
Error 23, 28, 29, 40, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device.  Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device.  If the MAC address is missing or the IMEI is the default value (00 499901 064000 0), this can also confirm a hardware issue.
