Iphone 5 battery dies too fast, bought in Feb 2013

Hi,
Recently Iphone has invited customers to get their battery replaced who have purchased the iphone 5 between Sept 2012 to Jan 2013. I have purchased my Iphone 5 on Feb 2013, however my battery doesn't hold a day (and quickly goes to 30%->0% in no time). I have checked on the apple page and my Serial number is not suggested to be affected by the fault that the company is admitting. Is it possible that the lot that I have purchased the phone in could also be faulty similar to its predeccars. I am facing the battery issue from almost beginning of this year now. That suggests my phone battery was fine only for an year. I am wondering if this is the average age of Iphone battery or my phone behaved exceptionally bad.
Cheers,
abhi134

that's still a relatively young phone 5 if you bought it in February 2013. but if you are near an apple store, try to see if they will let it in under the free replacement program anyways. they might say yes even if the serial number comes up as not affected. when you go there, they will help diagnose your iphone to see if maybe it's just some settings or apps on your iphone draining your battery. or you can try your own bit of diagnosing it yourself after reading articles about battery drain on iphone. this is one article you definitely what to read by a former apple genius technician person:
http://www.scottyloveless.com/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-batter y-drain
my own experience is that Background App Refresh can really drain the battery (go into settings, general, background app refresh to turn that completely off or only turn off what you don't need). you may also want to go into settings to check on apps that do location gps stuff and leave location turned on for only what you need. for apps, the facebook app could be a big battery suck. also my experience is that apps sponsored by advertising could be a source of battery suck if they check your location or do background refresh even when they are off. LTE could be a possible battery suck (you can switch this off in settings to only get 4G), although many people will disagree on this, but my experience is it could be another battery suck if you find your iphone always alternating between LTE and 4G.
there is one app you might want to try "Normal: Battery Analytics" in the app store.  this can help to tell you which apps may be causing problems.
if you want the battery replaced, you may want to ask your local apple store how much they'll charge you if out of warranty. news was they are doing battery replacements in the store nowadays. but they may also suggest you buy a replacement iphone 5 which of course will cost more. otherwise, if you really want to change the battery, then search on yelp for a good repair shop near you that works on iphones to get a better price. but keep in mind that is outside the apple store, and afterwards you won't be able to get apple to do any future hardware repairs on that particular iphone. but since you're out of warranty anyways, you may end up being like me and either doing it yourself for whatever you are not afraid to do, or, better yet, going to a reputable outside repair shop for iphone repairs that are beyond your skills.

  • Iphone 4s battery draining too fast

I just received my iphone 4s and I have upgraded from my 3s, after holding on for so long I am so disappointed with the battery life. after 2 phone calls the battery drains 15 %, I have turned off all the features to make sure it lasts me at least till I can charge it again. any solutions out there, off course apple says there is no problem, just like we have no problems with the economy.

    Quick fix for you!!!!!!
Go to settings//Location Services//System Services//turn "Setting time Zone" and "Diagnostic & Usage" OFF.
These things will drain you to Zero fast. and tell Apple there is an issue with the Setting Time Zone feature.
Its constantly locating your phone second by second when it's suppose only work when you leave one time zone and go to another.

  • IPhone 4S battery draining too fast...Need to charge 3 times a day

Finally after 4 years I was very excited to get an iPhone that has all the features I wanted…but I am disappointed so far.
I purchased an iPhone 4S 32GB on 10/7 and has not been impressed with the battery life. I have to charge my iPhone at least 3 times a day. I go to work at 8 AM and by 11:30 AM the battery is at 20 %, so I charge it again which takes only about 60 to 120 minutes to charge, and by 5:30 PM I have to start charging again…the third charge has start around 11:30 PM and I have to keep the phone plugged overnight otherwise it will be dead by 6 AM.
I have read other posts on the web and people have suggested turning notifications, location services…etc which I went ahead and did but that did not change the battery issue. What is the purpose of having the iPhone 4S if all the features have to be turned off.
I always try to kill apps that running in background but still no fix to battery issue.
on 10/19/11 I went to Apple store and exchanged the phone with new one. The apple rep activated the phone for me and the charge was at 78 %. I left the store and 10 minutes later I was at my house, but again I was surprised to see the battery has drooped to 65 % within 10 minutes. While I was driving home I did not touch the phone or make/receive calls.
When I got home I plugged the phone and when it was charge at 100 % I unplugged it and 40 minutes later the battery dropped to 70 %.
Today I unplugged my iPhone 4s at 8:20 this morning with 100% and by 10:43 AM I am down to 63%. By 11:13 AM the battery was at 54% and by 11:46 AM the battery was down to 44% with me not touching it. I have turned everything off such notifications, locations services...etc and nothing in the background is working and I only used it for a 10 minute conversation.
It seemed that a lot of users are have similar issue. Not sure if the issue related to iOS 5, iPhone or bad batch of iPhone or iPhone batteries.
Before getting the iPhone 4S i had a 3GS from a family member that i had to charge at least 3 times a day. The only reason I got the new 4S is to not have to deal with frequent charge. I think I am 90 % close to returning the phone back to Apple and wait few months before attempting to purchase another phone.
    Thanks.....B

What made the trick for me was to drain the phone completely - until it dies. (It took quite a while to go from 3% to 0...). Then, charge it overnight.
Previous days I would start charging it with the battery at 10-15%, on red. Also for the last week I've been trying disabling functions, with the hope of finding what was the "offending" piece but without much success. Still was loosing about 10% per hour, just by using it to check emails, maps, and sometimes a call.
Today is almost two hours since I left home, with everything turned on again, used mail, maps with traffic during the ride to work, some browsing - using it "normally" - and the battery is still at 95%.
That looks more like normal to me.!!
Might try to drain it to 0% again as many other suggested, but if it is a battery charger "calibration", it shouldn't be necesary to do it more than once.

  • For all of us whose iPhone battery dies ridiculously fast

It's long, but please take your time to read it. Appreciate it.
Firstly, I believe it happens to a lot of us. It not only happens to me, but also a lot of my friends and my family.
Using iPhone certainly will consume its battery, and the way that consumers use iPhones and measure its battery is not the "stand by hours" but how long the battery lasts after charging it till full during our sleep or office hours. We simply only care about how many photos we can take, how long we can search things or browse things on the browser, how long we can call, how long we can use certain apps on the phone and so on so on. Of course, the most important thing is that we don't need to exchange some other essentials such as 4G LTE, brightness, background refresh, background location services, or even WiFi for those very basic functions. We, as users, totally understand certain functions may consumes more battery such as 4G LTE and background operations, but it cannot be the most prior excuse for the phone dies too fast.
Last month, I gradually cannot tolerate to see my iPhone's battery dies too soon, therefore I reserved a time slot in Genius Bar.
The response I got, was just as ridiculous as it could be. Firstly, the "Genius" told me to switch off the location services, the background refresh services, and to reduce the motion. He said, after these, your phone will be fine. It seems to be the end of the story, but it is just not. I have these already done long time before!!! Then, the "Genius" of course, did a comprehensive test for the battery and the phone. After a couple minutes, he showed me a list of app crash history, including some major apps that everyone uses and some foundation services of the system. He, of course, without seeing the apps, told me that many apps may be out of dated and developers may not update their apps on time so these apps may cause issues after time, and suggested me to delete those apps. After seeing the list, including Facebook, Weibo, WhatsApp. It is so obvious that these apps are not out of dated but so up to dated!! Ok, then he suggested me to restore the phone, of course I have tried it so many times. Then, he suggested me to use third party tools to back up some certain data and restore the phone as new. He said the bugs are in the backup. THATS IT!!!
I would not do it, the reason I keep using iPhone is because I value and appareciate the consistency and reliability of the system. I don't need to worry any lose of data when I switch to a new iPhone or upgrade the OS. And of course I don't need to trust and use other non-apple utility services to back up my data. Apple saves my time and brings me convenience, and I always purchase the largest possible capacity to store a lot of files in the phone.
I updated to iOS 8 this morning, and it took one hour to consume a quarter of battery. Now I am restoring it.
It happens to just so many of iPhone users. Hope Apple would value this issue and solve it as what Apple always does.
Thanks for reading. Hope some of you would pass it to insiders.

There is a new feature in iOS 8 that helps users track down battery hogging apps.  Settings, General, Usage, Battery Usage.  Perhaps that might help you figure out where your electrons are disappearing to.

  • WHAT COULD I DO IF MY IPHONE 4 IS REDUCING TOO FAST THE BATTERY PERCENTAGE?

    Hi,
WHAT COULD I DO IF MY IPHONE 4 IS REDUCING TOO FAST THE BATTERY PERCENTAGE?
The problem is not from where I connect it in. I compared it with another iphone that the battery was at 50% and mine was at 85%: two hours later the other phone's battery was 49% and mine was 55% without using the phone.
    Thanks in advance,

  • HT4623 Iphone 5 battery discharging too quicklu

Iphone 5 battery discharging too quickly, even with wifi, bluetooth and location services off. The battery is only lasting about 6 hours.  How can i check what is causing this.  It was lasting about 24 hours before.

Just shared. Turn your brightness To as you can see The page. Turn of icloud if not use it If you just buy this phone. Let the battery totally drain couple of time and fully charge again. It will became great after that.my phone take 2 days to totally drain.awsome. If your location to far away from network transmitter it will became little bit hot at the battery.if you very near to wifi you will feel  your iphone5 it surf like a ferrari + no heat at all.     P/n; dont look at pecentage of your battery. Just take note how many hour until its totally drain.

my iphone 3gs battery drains very fast it won't last for whole day
i just uses mail application and  facebook for some time
can u tell why the problem is or need to change battery

I'm having the same problem with my 3Gs.  In my case it is not the apps int he background or the brightness, or wifi or email push.  The folks at the apple stroe tell me that there is some software glitch that shows up every few months.
I can only get rid of it by restoring my phone as a new device.  In which case I lose all of my contacts, settings and all data.  VERY frustrating. I had recived two new phones (before applecare ran out) and have done the resotre several times.  No one can tell me what is in that creates this probelm.  I've tried differenet chargers one by one in case they are the probelm.  one int he car, one in a kitchen outlet, one at my home computer (sync) and on at my office computer (non-sync).
Problem just showed up again randomly two days ago,  no new apps or hardware.  battery drains from full to 0 in two hours.
    Apple, please fix.

  • Front camera doesn't work! Battery dies super fast!

Hello! I received my ipod touch 5th generation as a bday gift in November 2012 and I'm having a couple of issues with it. First the battery dies really fast. I have wifi on all the time and I dunno if this is the issue, but using music playback for about 4-5 hrs/day and reading/instagram/fb/WWF for like 1-2 hrs, it lasts about 15 - 20 hrs. I think there has to be a problem because my touch 3rd gen lasted longer basically doing the same thing. And if I play a video for <1hr, the battery lasts less than 12 hrs. That's one thing. Also, a couple of times both the front and back camera have frozen up, and for about a week now, the front camera doesn't work. When I switch to it, it closes up as if it's taking a picture, but it never opens up again, it just stays there. This is for video and camera. The front one just doesnt work. PLEASE HELP! I'm obssesed with this thing and I'm really disappointed by these features. I dunno what to do. And the worst is that after I try to switch to the front camera, I can't switch back. I have to restart the ipod to be able to use the back camera, because it just doesn't do anything.

    For the camera problem
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

The battery life you are getting is normal and expected. If you have a concern after doing the above make an appointment at the Genius Bar.

the battery lost too fast ,the battery lost fast  even though i have did nothing

Be sure to turn off push notifications for apps you don't need. This will always run even when your phone is locked and you quit all apps. Also, I noticed that turning on the orientation lock when apps support landscape and you don't need it also helps to save some battery.

  • IPod Touch battery draining too fast?

Recently, the battery life on my iPod touch has been draining too fast. Before I synced my iPod into my new laptop with a new iTunes, my battery life was very long, as I could go on for weeks before it was below 20%. Now, I can go from 100% down to 10% in under a minute.
Even if I charge overnight or have 100%, any time my iPod is unlocked, the battery drains fast. I've done several methods to try and solve the problem, such as deleting apps, lowering brightness, turn off background apps, and even bought the battery life app (which I've had before but it seems to do nothing now). Whether I use the camera, play a game, or surf the internet, the battery bar will go down really fast. Sometimes I'll have half of battery life left and all of a sudden, my iPod turns off because it instantly went frm 50% to 0%. Even harmless actions such as the clock or just staying on the home screen will drain more battery than it usually does. The music app seems to be the only one that can last longer than an hour, but even then, just leaving it in the background will deplete the battery faster than usual, as opposed to it being in the background for hours and not taking away any percentage.
My iPod still recharges normally (and quickly), and for some reason if I lock my iPod while it has a low percentage, when I unlock it again, a lot of battery is regained... and then lost almost immediately.
I'm not sure if this has to do anything with me syncing to a new iTunes. I'm still under the same username and whatnot, and all I did was use home sharing to import all of my music from the old computer to the new one, so I wouldn't have to constantly go to my old computer to sync with my iPod.
I currently use a 4th generation iPod touch with 8GB.
I'm just wondering, what can I do to solve this issue, to return it to how it was before? As of now, I can't afford to replace the iPod, and I'm willing to send my iPod for repair as a last resort.
    Thanks.

  • IPHONE 5s Battery Draining Really Fast

Hi, I have a Iphone 5s. The phone charges really slow, and dies really fast. I am barely on it now since this happen. I tried restoring at home, and also resetting. I took a trip to Apple two days ago, and they ran the diagnostic. He said the battery is healthy but something is wrong with the firmware or software. After he restored it but it still is doing the SAME thing. Could I fix this issue?

Take it back to the Apple store and tell them that didn't fix the issue. You might have a hardware issue. Before you take it back though do a backup on your computer.
