IPhone 5 battery discharges VERY quickly; adjusts own brightness; won't connect to wi-fi.

For the past 7 months my phone has been dying faster and faster. I cannot take it anymore. My phone was 100% when I got out of my car, 34% when I got out of my 75-minute class and 11% by time I got to my car (3-minute walk). WHILE IN MY BACKPACK; NOT BEING TOUCHED. I plugged the car charger into my phone and the phone jumps to 54%. After 15 minutes of charging, the phone is 77% charged. By time my 1 hour and 15 minute class is over my phone is at 22%. I unlocked my phone to get to the home screen and I instantly receive the "10% battery remaining" pop-up, I hit OK, and then the 10% drops to 1% right before my eyes. This has been the norm for the past 7 months, so I have to keep an external battery charger on me. This is my second iPhone, my first iPhone was doing the SAME things that this one is doing. It also adjusts its own brightness. I slide it close to being all the way down to save battery. I can lock the phone and unlock it and the brightness is turned all the way up or intermittently moving upwards (to the right) on its own. My phone is constantly on 3G rather than LTE in the same places where I have always had LTE. Wi-fi will be on, but it won't connect to my home network or won't be able to find it although my iPod connects just fine. Sometimes it won't show ANY networks at ALL. I reduced my bill from 10GB to 6GB because I am tired of paying a $200 phone bill and I rarely ever go over 4GB because I always use wi-fi - at home and at school (& I work from home). I have since had to go back to 10 GB to avoid overages because my phone won't connect to wi-fi. My phone does not have any damage to it, just like my last iPhone didn't.
Hard resets and soft resets do not do anything. I prefer not to have to keep getting iPhone 5s.
Any help on solving all of these issues would be great. Thank you.

This is possibly caused by the updates, but some phones had bad batteries.
have you been dealing with Apple directly?  You should.   Only apple covers your phone..
Last thing you can try.
back up your phone, a full backup to computer is preferred
restore to factory.  It is preferred you connect to a computer and use iTunes to restore to factory.
set up as new with iTunes.
Restore your phone from the backup on your computer.
If the problem is not resolved, please make an appointment with Apple.

  • IPhone 5 battery drains very quickly

I've had an iPhone 5 for about a year and a half and it all of a sudden started draining really quickly.  Without using it outside of a few texts, it is at 50% by noon.  With use, it easily completely drained by then.  Also, I have noticed a few odd things regarding charging my phone: I receive  a "this accessory is not meant for this device and may not charge" error and when plugged into my car charger, it alternates between charging and not charging rapidly, just making the battery drain even faster.  I replaced the car charger, and no longer have this problem, but recently had the same problem when trying a new external portable charging source.  I've stopped using the particular cord that gave me the error, and think this has solved the problem.  Just mentioning both these issues as I've never had problems with them before.
Here are the things I've tried to fix the problem:
Tested battery at Apple.  First time was deemed okay, the next week they said it was borderline failing (80%).
Replaced the battery by buying a battery online ($25, and relatively well rated).  Continued to see problems.
Updated settings (remove location services, switch off bluetooth and wifi, turn off push for all email accounts, you name it I've tried it).  Although I tried these things, I did have a phone with all these settings turned on for a year and a half and still had a battery that would last me through the day, so I don't think settings alone are the problem.
Restored phone to factory settings (not to previous iphone back up).  This was to address any software bugs that could be causing the problem.
Replaced battery with a second battery bought online (bought the highest rated battery I could find).
Took phone into iPhone repair store.  They looked at the inside of the phone and said it looked good.  Replaced battery again.
After all of this, my battery still drains super quickly.  I do not think it the battery since I've replaced it three times and don't think it is the software since I did a restore to factory settings.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be?  I've tried everything I could think of and need to squeeze another 5 months out of this phone until I'm eligible for the upgrade.  Right now I have an external battery pack, but this is a bit of a pain to charge and carry around.
A friend of a friend has had some similar issues and they said they had the lightning connector replaced, and it solved the problem.  Anyone have any experience with this?
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I have been round and round with Apple "geniuses" trying to resolve battery drainage issues. I have turned off all kinds of background programs, reset the phone and even did a full restore. Nothing worked. The end result was an Apple senior technician just giving up and telling me that the battery life I'm getting is "good." I don't see how that's the case since I used to go to work, use my phone and come home with battery power still in the 70s or 60s if I was really active. Now with most everything turned off, I come home with battery power in the 30s and sometimes even the 20s, just barely hanging on to operational status. I now have to carry my charger around with me and charge this hunk of junk every opportunity I get. The diagnostic on the battery shows it to be fine which is not surprising considering I take very good care of my phone. I had no issues until installing that battery sucking virus known as iOS 8.1. I am so utterly disappointed with Apple that I will never buy any of their junk products again. I am especially angry at being told that the life I'm getting is somehow "good." I imagine that no one actually tested iOS 8.1 before rolling it out. They finished the last line of code and immediately issued it to the public. My interactions with Apple Support confirm that they only care about people who have purchased their latest product. Have an iPhone 5? Too bad! You need to get the iPhone 6 to continue enjoying your Apple experience. Screw their overpriced crap.

  • NB520 battery discharges very quickly

    Hi
My NB520 has recently developed a problem.
It was working fine and i charged it up to 99% then when i removed the charger, a message appears saying ''0:05 of battery remaining (99%)'' and then ''computer will suspend very soon unless it is plugged in''.
So even though it is registering the 99% charge it thinks there is only 5 minutes of operation time left.
Is this a battery problem or a motherboard problem?
    Thanks

    Hi
For me it looks like a battery malfunctionmaybe you could try to calibrate the battery several times in order to increase the performance but not quite sure if this would help in this case
To calibrate the battery you should discharge the battery until it would be fully empty. Then charge it again until the battery indicator would switch to blue or green (this depends on model you have).
If this would not help, I would recommend testing new battery.

  • My new iphone 5S battery drains very quickly

I just purchased an iphone 5S in January 2014, but the airdrop was not working and the phone was not recognizable to anyone else. Other than that it was great. I took it to the Apple store and they determined that it was some sort of bug and unfixable so they gave me a "new" iphone 5S.  airdrop worked immediately and I was on my way.  This "new" phone seems to start draining the battery as soon as I take it off the charger.  I use it for 5 minutes , check email, write a quick email, and 5% is gone immediately.  It drains much faster than my first phone.  Is there anything I can do or reset to fix this issue.  Rarely does my phone's battery last the entire day and I am not a heavy iphone user.

  • T430-2342-CTO: 9-cell battery discharges very quickly

Hi, my T430-2342-CTO just arrived two days ago. I love everything about it, and I am really happy with my purchase. However, there is a bit of a problem with the battery. One of the reasons that I got Type 2342 was that it had a 9-cell battery, advertised to function for over 15 hours, an attribute that has been confirmed by multiple reviews. However, my battery struggles to last for 4 hours. I'm really not doing anything: I'm running Chrome (a browser) and Gvim (a text editor) at the same time, and that's it.
And yet, it doesn't last over 4 hours. My battery utility tells me that it can hold 93.6 Wh, or 5616 Ws, which is an extremely tiny capacity (if my computer ran at 100 W, then the computer would run out of battery in one minute). Why is the capacity of my battery impaired like this? Can I get a replacement? I have a 4-year warranty plan for the battery, but I am under the impression that I would have to buy a new plan for the replacement battery if I used that warranty on this battery. Is there some out-of-the-box plan that I can invoke? Or, better yet, can I fix my problems from here.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

At 93.6Wh, if your computer ran at 100W, it would run out in one hour, and not one minute.
You want to check what your rate of consumptions is. One of the key points is making sure the discrete graphics card isn't active all the time. That'll cut you rbattery life in half pretty quickly.
Also make sure you're not running too many resident programs because they all end up using some amount of battery life, and having a ton of those really adds up.

  • Dropped my iPhone 5 battery draining very quickly

    Hi All,
I dropped my iPhone 5 from about 2 feet yesterday evening (had a cover on) everything seemed to be working fine.
I was going to bed at around 12.30 the battery had 52% charge. Today morning I woke up at 6 am and the battery was completely drained out.
This is the second or third time I've dropped it. Could the falling down be a reason for the battery to drain out ?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    - Paul

Thank you I will try this. I am giving this phone to my husband so no info on it is fine. However I am getting a 4s on a new contract - can I put my backup onto new iPhone or is there a problem with that. Sorry if silly question I am a novice!!

  • Battery discharges very quickly when not in use

After fully charging my Nano and leaving it for a day I find that it discharges leaving 2-3 hours of playing time.
In fact, even when fully charged I would be lucky to get 8 hours playing time.
I appreciate that the battery slowly discharges when not in use but my Mini certainly retains its charge far longer than my Nano.
I have tried "conditioning" the battery occassionally but no use.
Anyone else have this problem or is my batter faulty?

nevermind - just read an article on the apple site saying the battery is in use even when it's turned off, i suppose to save the date and time.
Wish there were an option to completely turn it off - i dont really care about the date and time.

  • IPod buttons not working/battery discharges very quickly

I have a 2GB iPod Nano. It was working fine until yesterday when suddenly the buttons and the click wheel stopped working. Only the hold switch works now. I was using the stopwatch at that time. Not only this but the battery doesn't even last over 10 minutes anymore, even though the ipod is in sleep mode and I'm not using it (because the buttons won't do anything!), whereas the battery would easily last a whole day at least before this weird button problem. It also connects to the computer with a lot of difficulty. Every time I plug it in, the Apple logo comes up and then the screen just gets stuck. I have to unplug it and then plug it back in several times before the computer will finally detect it.
I've restored it but to no avail.
Can anyone please help me out here?

The Ion Hub charger has been successful in a couple of cases - but no guarantee. For a lower cost approach:
= Reset by pressing Play and Menu at the same time - the standard first step.
= Apple has a tech support listing that may be relevant
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61676
= This rarely read article offers some information that's definitely relevant:

  • Battery BL5C charges and discharges very quickly

    Hi,
I am using Nokia 1650, Battery BL5C. This battery fully charges in less than 1 hour(the messgae saying battery fully charged pops-up). And this, so-called fully charged battery discharges very quickly, in a days time and mobile gets switched off. Mobile is used only for making and receiving calls which are very few and also i usually do not use it for playing games on it. (Point is, its not so heavily used to discharge the battery so quickly.)
Is this battery problem or phone's hardware/software problem? I heard its happening to quite a many cell phones.
The mobile phone I used earlier also had this problem.
    Thanks.

    Try to calibrate it.
    1. Run the battery empty.
    2. Charge it without turning the phone on.
    3. Once battery full, turn it on, and try to charge again until you get the full warning.
    4. Let the battery run till dry again
5.Charge without turning the phone on
    6. Boot then charge to full
Battery should be calibrated by then,.

  • HT4623 Iphone 5 battery discharging too quicklu

Iphone 5 battery discharging too quickly, even with wifi, bluetooth and location services off. The battery is only lasting about 6 hours.  How can i check what is causing this.  It was lasting about 24 hours before.

Just shared. Turn your brightness To as you can see The page. Turn of icloud if not use it If you just buy this phone. Let the battery totally drain couple of time and fully charge again. It will became great after that.my phone take 2 days to totally drain.awsome. If your location to far away from network transmitter it will became little bit hot at the battery.if you very near to wifi you will feel  your iphone5 it surf like a ferrari + no heat at all.     P/n; dont look at pecentage of your battery. Just take note how many hour until its totally drain.

  • Since iOS 7update my IPAD battery Is discharging very quickly what should i do

Since iOS 7update my IPAD battery Is discharging very quickly what should i do.  This problem only occured since last iOS 7.0.2 update

Poke around the settings. There's a lot of notifications turned on that you may not need. There's also the backgroun app refresh that will be using battery and the background updating of apps.
So turn stuff off, if it doesn't help another thing that you can try is to go into the settings and reset all settings. Which is a bit of a pain because you'll need to retweak everything, but sometimes starting fresh can clear glitches

  • Iphone 4S losing battery life VERY quickly

Just recently my Iphone 4S has been losing battery life VERY quickly.  I have heard that it may have something to do with a IOS update.  I also have heard from several people that they have suddenly been experiencing the same thing.  Does anyone have a fix to problem?  If so, how?

Many people are having similar issues, especially since the release of iOS6. I went to the Apple store and the first and only thing the fellow did was disable location serivces for the apps that did not really need it, and that doubled my battery life.
