IPhone 5 battery life is very short since iOS 7

I don't know what to do. My iPhone 5 is 1 year old and I don't think that my battery is dying. I think it's iOS 7 which drains my battery in about 3 hours! What can i do to fix it?

My iPhone 4s battery life is very short. I have done the most recent upgrade with no improvement. Any solutions on the way?

I had not tried that article, however I already went throught the troubleshooting assistant, which covers everything that article has.
I am about to try to delete and re-install iTunes though, which was mentioned in your artile link.
    Thanks for the help.
    I'll post my findings/results.

  • HT4623 I have updated my iphone 4 to 6.0 and now can not make calls or receive them...battery life is very short as well.

Not able to send or receive calls since upgrading my iPhone 4.  Every time i make a call it fails.  I have also noticed that my the battery life is very short as well.
What is Apple and other carriers doing about this?  When will this be fixed?

Look to the right in the "More Like This" box for assistance.  Your issue has been explored ad nauseum.

  • HT1476 ever since I upgraded to ios 7, the battery life is very short and I do not use my ipad all that much.l have been on the phone to apple 3 times, turning off all kinds of things I so not use and have powered off more than before but it is still poor

ever since I upgraded to ios 7, my battery life is very short. I do not use the ipad all that much and have to charge it twice as much as before. I have been on the phone to Apple 3 times and turned off a number of things that I am not using and now power it off more regularly but still not happy with battery life. It is less than a year old and as I said, I don' t use it all that much

My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

  • Is it possible i am using duplicate charger for charging battery but battery life is very short 6 hours what's the problem

Is it possible i am using duplicate charger for charging battery but battery life is very short 6 hours what's the problem

First, the battery. The recalled battery replacements have not held up well, and, unfortunately, feedback on the Apple site isn't what I would call complementary about their batteries. When I replaced mine, I got a Newer Technology battery from OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAP17AL60RS/ . Mine has 104 cycles on it and 4113 mAh capacity.
Now, charging. There are only 4 components in the charging circuit: Power adapter, DC-in card, battery and logic board. It sounds like your power adapter, being newer, is probably fine. Where the power adapter plugs into the computer, is that jack loose? If you put a pen or pencil on it and push it a little, gently, does it wiggle side-to-side? If so, your DC-in card may be bad. Assuming the battery stats are good and the battery is good, it should charge. Sooo, last but not least, is the logic board. Probably the best thing you can do is find a friend with a Powerbook or visit an Apple store or Apple authorized service provider to use another power supply that they know works (just to be sure) and a substitute battery (again, to be sure). If indeed yours are good, and I went through this a few months ago with one of our Powerbooks, you can replace the DC-in card, and if that doesn't work, then the logic board.
If you want Apple to do that, have them send it to the Apple depot, where they'll do whatever is required to put the Powerbook in close to new condition. Put an old, bad, Apple battery in it, so they'll replace it. Cost runs around $350 if the case isn't banged up, and if it is, the price can go up. When ours went in, they replaced the logic board and put a new battery in. Of course ensure your data is backed up, and if anything is really confidential, move it onto an encrypted disk on your hard drive or back it up and delete it.
If you have the store replace the logic board, it will run you more than double what they charge to send it to the depot.

  • Anyone having problems with there iphone 5 battery life been very poor

Yes a lot of people are having this issue it's from the ios 6 update. Some users are reporting battery drains a lot after updating their device
There have always been a lot of battery problems posted about in these forums following each and every iOS update.  Personally, I believe that the battery really isn't discharging any faster, it is just that the charging circuit is confused and needs to be reset. I always perform a setup as a new phone for major updates, for example iOS3 to iOS4, 4 to 5, 5 to 6, which should be a 'reset' for the charging system, but I do a simple update for point releases--6.0 to 6.0.1, etc.  I have never had a problem with battery performance when performing the full update as new, only when I did a 'normal' update for a point release.  If I perform an update with a restore from the old backup after a major update the battery problem did appear.
After every iOS point update I always do a full reset--home and on/off buttons held down until the Apple appears--three or four times over the course of a couple of days.  I allow the phone to fully charge overnight every night.
This has always resulted in 'normal' battery life after one or a few reset cycles.  By 'normal' I mean that a fully charged iPhone, with email and other notifications enabled and set to push, and no particular attention paid to battery conserving techniques, will discharge to about 89% over a 10 hour day.  If I make a few phone calls and surf the web a bit then the level has fell to 70% or so, but unless I heavily use my iPhone 5 it doesn't drop below that point.
Prior to performing the resets the charge level would sometimes drop into the 50's or 60's or even lower in a few hours without using the iPhone.  This problem 'scenario' has happened with every iPhone I have ever owned and I've owned all but the original iPhone.
As always, YMMV.  I make no claims as to its usability for anyone else.

  • I got my iphone 5 3 weeks ago and the battery life is very short. It drains out very fast. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the iOS or with my phone? Because I'm a bit concerned

I recieved my iPhone 5 3 weeks ago and the battery life completely *****! After doing a few things and maybe using it for about 30 minutes the phone start overheating like crazy then the battery starts dropping very fast. Does anyone know if it's a problem with the iOS or with my phone? And is anyone else expierenceing these problems?

It sounds like you have an app that is incorrectly continuously using data and power... from normal use the phone should NOT be getting that warm... only constant video playing via data like Netflix for example would result in that...
I'd say that you should remove all apps in the recent app tray... tunr phone off... then once you power back on...
Hold BOTH home and sleep wake buttons together until you see a white apple symbol... then release both buttons...
This will ensure you have no apps running...
I've experienced a hang up with mail while out and about that has resulted in this on my iPhone as well... Once I performed these steps it was fixed... it seemed like it got stuck and that's what caused the warm phone and battery drain...
I notived that when it gets stuck (mail app that is) I will see the text connecting at the bottom and it never changes to "updated" like it should... this is my trigger that it's gotten stuck.
Have not really figured out what causes mail app to get stuck yet...

  • Battery life is very short on ipod touch ?

    Hi,
First post on here so be gentle.
I have had my 4th gen Ipod touch for about 2 years now. I notice that even if I don't use it to play apps or listen to music the battery goes from fully charged to 20% left within 45 minutes.
    Is this normal ?.
The battery just doesn't seem to have any life in it and I am just wondering if anyone knows if this is normal life expectancy or a fault ?.
    Cheers

Could be that the battery is reaching the end of it usefull life. Try:
    - The suggestions here for mazimizing battery life
    Apple - Batteries - iPod
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    If a bad battery:
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $79. They do not fix yours.

  • Brand new iPhone 6 battery life dropping very fast and charging even faster

my brand new iPhone 6 that I have just recently started using the day before has a surprisingly bad battery life. whrn first turning on the phone to use the battery life only last 1-2 hours with average use. when the battery died this morning I pluhe'd the phone into charge and the battery is charging very fast already at 25% and only being charging for about 15-20 mins. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and if it is normal or if I have just recieved a faulty iPhone 6?

    Can you check:
    1. What apps show on settings - general - usage - battery usage?
    2. How many apps have permission to use cellular data?

  • Battery Life is Very Short Recently

Hi, my MacBook Pro battery life has been really dying quickly in the past couple weeks. My MacBook Pro is new as of December, and has only gone through 107 cycles. I am only running Chrome and Microsoft Word and a couple of other applications (Mail and iCal) as occasionally needed. I have been using my computer for all of 20 minutes now, running just Chrome, and I have burned the battery down to 82% and it only has 2:13 left. I don't really know what is going on, and I like to think that I keep very good care of my computer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I am currently running 10.8.3 with 4GB of RAM.

While it's normal for your battery to discharge faster when running certain applications.  Having your screen set at the highest brightness settings also plays a role.
Try this - set your screen brigthness down to 50% - turn bluetooth off if you're not using it.
Google Chrome does use up your battery resources - try using firefox instead.
With all those apps you have running in the background - it is normal for your battery to discharge faster.
Open up activity monitor (have a look at my screenshot below) - under " All Processes " not my " My Processes " see what using 10% and above in your % CPU section - highlight it and hit quit process.
See if that improves your battery life.
107 Cycles is quite high for 4 month old Macbook Pro.
You can keep it plugged in when you're close to a power outlet - it will not damage/overcharge your battery if you keep it plugged in.

  • New 15" 2.2 GHz is heating up very hot and battery life is very short

I just bought a new 15 in MBP and the thing heats up so hot I can't hold it on my lap and all I am doing is sufing the web and downloading apps for my iPad.  I am using a 3G USB modem and with a full charge am only getting  an hour and a half of battery life max!  Is this normal?  Or should I send this thing back to the store?  Thanks for any info you can give me.

this happened to me a while back, even after replacing my battery. what might be happening is that there is a print job waiting in the que which could be hogging up a lot of CPU (why this happens is beyond me)
anyway, the way i fixed my issue was going into the activity monitor and sorting the processes by CPU load. if you see something taking up 95% of it, try and quit the process. my battery life jumped back up to 3 hours after that

  • IPhone 6 battery life draining since 8.1 update

Is anyone else having problems with their iPhone 6 battery life diminishing since the latest 8.1 update? I notice I'm getting much less usage time per hour. For example, before 8.1, it would take about 3 hours of usage time to get to 70%. Now it only takes 2 and it gets worse after that. Here is a screenshot I took of the battery usage before the 8.1 update:
This is pretty normal usage timings for me (it was taken Monday, October 20th). Now, here is a screenshot from today, after starting out with 100% this morning:
As you can see, it's quite a huge difference. The weird thing is that messaging seems to take up more battery life than it used to. Yes, I do text quite a bit during the day but the frequency of this has not changed between now and October 20th. It shouldn't be using THAT much battery life. I took it to the Genius Bar yesterday to ask them about this problem and the girl told me that she saw some crashing from the Messages app in Diagnostics Information and she felt that maybe since the update, there was something causing that app to use more battery. So she suggested erasing the phone and restoring from an iCloud backup. I did this yesterday when I got home but, as you can see, the problem is no better (though there are no more crashes listed in the diagnostics information).
I have no idea what else I can do to fix this and I'm getting really tired of having to charge this twice a day now (I used to have to do this with my iPhone 5, as well). If anyone has had a similar problem, I would appreciate suggestions. And before you ask, I'm doing all of the normal battery saving tricks, like turning off background app refresh, not having it check for mail all the time (it's manual), brightness is down, I turn wifi off when not using it, I don't leave apps open, etc etc etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
    Pooja

I turn off background refresh, mail push/fetch, and I turn off wifi and bluetooth if I'm not using them. I also minimize which apps use location services. Even when doing all of that though, the battery life became terrible on 8.1. Since updating to 8.1.1 all issues seem to have been fixed so I'm very grateful for that. I recommend anyone on 8.1 who is having issues to upgrade to 8.1.1 immediately.

  • HT4528 I updated my iphone 5S to IOS 7.0 6 and the battery life is extremely short.  Anyway to go back to the previous software.  This is ridiculous

My battery life for my 5S is very short since updated to the 7.06.  This is common and can I go back to the previous software?

Nope, it's not common at all.  Why do you believe it to be 'common'?
And no, you cannot downgrade your iOS.

  • Short Battery Life and Very Slow Data on 4S

Short Battery Life and Very Slow Data on 4S,
anyone else noticing the slow speed of data on this phone?

Yes, I measure my slow data on Sprint in kpbs, not Mpbs. Like standard is download maybe 250kpbs, upload 100kpbs (that's 0.25 Mbps and 0.1 Mbps). On the same tower my buddy who has an AT&T iPhone 4 shows 2.5Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload (that's 2500kbps and 1500kpbs), a LOT faster. Sprint has not been much help.
