Iphone 5 can't make/receive calls/text (possibly 2g issue)

Hi,
Just obtained an iPhone 5 on t-mobile. Everything seems to be working fine including 3g network/wifi. However, I can't make/receive any calls. I get full reception, EE written on the top left but outgoing calls always fail. Incoming calls also fail. I've checked with t-mobile, my SIM is fully activated and have also successfully tested my SIM in another iPhone 5.
I've tried Apple's troubleshooting assistant here http://www.apple.com/uk/support/iphone/assistant/calls/. None of these worked.
I've got an appointment booked in with Apple on the 14th but was hoping there might be a quick fix I can sort myself before then. Is anyone else having this issue?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Yasin

You restore the phone as new to get rid of the passcode.

  • Droid X can't make/receive calls/texts from home

I've been experiencing problems with my phone for about 2 days now. I can't use it to make calls or texts and I don't get any from anyone either. If I literally drive 2 miles down the road, the phone works. I've tried to reset it using *228 and update the roaming settings. I've taken the battery out while the phone is on, and even manually powered it down, but nothing works. The phone shows I have full signal strength until I actually make a call, then the bars disappear and the call never connects. The same thing happens when I try to send a text; it just never sends. I can connect to the internet, so there's no problems there. I appreciate any help.

    Hello chinesesnowplow
Wow! That's very upsetting not being able to call or text from your home. Let's get to the bottom of this immediately.
Are you still experiencing the issue? Are there any other devices having this same problem in your home? Did this start after a particular application was downloaded? Please place the device in airplane mode. Go to Menu> Settings> Wireless & network settings> then check mark airplane mode until the signal changes. Then uncheck airplane mode and retest.
Please let me know if this helps, if not I would be glad to further troubleshoot with you.
    Thank you

  • Multiple Verizon Customers can't make/receive calls

Me, my wife, and 2 other Verizon customers in our neighborhood are having problems. We can connect to 3g, have good signal for the most part, but we can't make or receive calls or text messages. I, my wife, and one friend all have the 4s, for sure, and I have another friend in the neighborhood (model unknown) who is experiencing the same problem. We can connect to 3g, but can't make/receive calls or texts over CDMA (apparently). I've hit the "Extended" network a few times and made calls. My Verizon signal is and has always been 50%-75% usually, with 100% sometimes. My friend says his daugher's iPhone 4 is working without issues.
When we get away from home, our phones work fine. My biggest concern is safety, since we have no landline at home. It's been this way since I've got home 330 p.m. Friday. Going on 48 hours now.
I would have called customer service, but....

This is a customer-to-customer forum, not Customer Service.  Have you tried contacting Customer Service via some else's phone or by going to the local Corporate store?  Maybe there's an outage in your area?

  • Accidentally cleared storage on my phone, now I can't make/receive calls, etc. Please help!

So I was turning my phone on and I accidentally brought up a white screen that gave me several options including Clear Storage, Factory Reset and Fastboot. Entirely by accident, I selected "Clear Storage". As soon as I realized my mistake, I quickly removed the battery. However, upon restarting my phone, I found that I could not make/receive calls or send/receive texts. Before going to my local Verizon store tomorrow, I wanted to know if there was anything I could do to remedy this issue myself. Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind! Dialed *228 and reprogrammed the handset, all's well. Thanks however, Jim!

  • I can't make/receive calls or text messages, why?*

When I try to open my messages it just comes up as a blank screen, doesn't even say 'Messages' at the top and then it freezes. When I try going into my contacts and try to send a message to someone it comes up as a blank screen as well. People tell me they text my phone but I don't get a notification, I only hear the sound and the text message number goes up (sometimes). I can't receive any calls, and I can't make them. I try to dial in a number and press the call button but the screen doesn't even change. What can I do to fix this? I tried restoring my phone and nothing changed. It tends to always freeze whenever I try to go on to settings for messages. Also it freezes when i double click the home button to try and swipe up all the apps. Like why is this happening?! Also, the top left of my screen seems to be popping out, could that have to do with anything?
*My phone company service is perfectly fine.*

You tried restoring the phone. What happened when you did that? Did you restore from backup, or restore as new? If you did not restore as new, try that without putting any content back on the phone and then test for a short period. Did it work? If so, then try putting your backup back onto the device. Does it still work? If not, then something is corrupt in your backup. Restore the device as new again and sync content back manually. If you restore as new and the device does not work, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider and have the hardware checked.

  • IPhone 3GS shows "no service" or shows "ATT 3" but can't make -receive calls

iPhone 3GS shows "no service" or shows "ATT 3" but can't make-can't receive calls.  Can somebody help me? This is a used one and it is my first one.  Thanks!

    HI,
Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
That will revert to factory settings but may help.

  • Can't make/receive calls without 3G toggled on after ios7.1 update

Updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.1.2 yesterday and checked out all basic functions immediately after the update. All worked well, including being able to make and receive phone calls.
Fast-forward to today and I couldn't make or receive calls at all. Goofed around with the phone for a while with mixed results, so I ended up calling the carrier's support line for more guidance. The lady on the other end immediately had me check Cellular Data and toggle on 3G when she heard that I'd had it turned off. Lo and behold, the phone started to work again. Never needed 3G turned on before; didn't need it yesterday after the update, so what gives today? I thought 3G was only applicable for cellular data, and I don't use my phone for that. Heck, I'm not even on a data plan...just voice and text. I would welcome edification.

First try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. An iPhone reset does not affect and data or settings.
If an iPhone reset does not resolve this, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes. Sync your iPhone immediately beforehand to update your iPhone's backup if needed.
When restoring your iPhone with iTunes, your iPhone will be erased and the current firmware version will be re-installed. After 2.2.1 is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup (which is the default selection), with the other selection as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
Try from your iPhone's backup first. If this doesn't resolve it, the next step is restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring from your iPhone's backup will also restore the problem.
Either way, syncing your iPhone will be required afterwards.
If no change after any of these steps, time to give AppleCare a call at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Can't make / receive calls - Mid 2010 MBP

So I have a Mid 2010 MBP 13 inch model. I just downloaded OSX Yosemite and I've got text message forwarding working between my phone and my Macbook Pro but I can not get the calling feature to work. I have "iPhone Cellular Calls" enabled under the iPhone settings but when I go to the FaceTime settings on my Macbook Pro there is no box to enable iPhone Cellular Calls in the preferences pane (like many of the guides I've seen have showed, my preference pane simply doesn't have the option). My phone and my laptop are both signed into the same iCloud accounts and both are associated with emails (3 different emails to be exact... a school email, elon.edu, a gmail, and the icloud email). Any help please?
I know that handoff and some continuity features aren't supported for pre 2012 MacBook Pros but I've got texts working and I thought calling was supposed to work as well.
Does bluetooth have to be on and connected between both devices?
    Thanks in advance
    -Cam

OH and the cause of the problem of not being able to respond was that whenever I tried to enter text (via the iPad listed above) nothing would enter the text box even though I clearly had it selected and the iPad seemed to be allowing me to at least type a message (although the nohpthing was showing up on the screen. Very strange indeed. Anyways, help still needed on the original issue

Could anyone please help and would give me any idea why is this happening? Aprreciate your kind assistance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
From your description, it sounds as if your device itself has somehow failed. My opinion is that your formal support channel is what you need to use -- via your carrier.
    Good luck!

  • Sony HBH-DS970 BlueTooth Can't Make/Receive Call

After upgrading to 3.0, my Sony HBH-DS970 stereo bluetooth works fine with musics and video. However, I could not make or receive call using the bluetooth headset. Any clue?

Thanks NecklaceVillain. I follow your suggestion by changing the switch, delete (forget) the existing device and reconnect again. Now my device is working on both call and music. You are Great!! and I'm really enjoy my bluetooth headset.

  • I have an iPhone 4S and I can't make outgoing calls, texts or receive any texts or calls.

Hi my Iphone 4S today wasn't able to make calls or send texts. When trying to dial it wouldn't give back a ring tone despite me having full bars. I turned the phone off and back on hoping to resolve the call service. It didn't work. At that point I called AT&T and they said I should have service. I checked with others with Iphones and they all were working so I know for a fact it isn't AT&T. I then decided to reset the entire phone to its original state. After that I hooked it up to Itunes and put my backup file back on. At this point the phone began to work again but then two hours later it did the same exact thing and I'm unable to text or call. I don't want to keep reseting it and reinstalling my backup as it is time consuming and a chore for such a short amount of time. I read some other posts and they blame 5.0.1 for the problem. I don't know if there is any facts to those posts. Does anyone know if Apple has come out and said that the new update has bugs? Or could it be that my phone is defective? I appreciate all of your help.

You use Restore to get the latest firmware build, not the Update button. You can only use the Update button, if there is an iOS update, say iOS 5.1.
this link talks about updating to 9A406 to fix the "No Service" issue with iPhone 4S:

  • I can't make/receive calls on days old iPhone 4.  Just says Call Failed.

Same thing is happening with my girlfriend's 3Gs. The person being called hears half a ring then phone cuts out. I have all bars but when call fails bars all drop for a moment, then return. I've reset network settings and everything else. What the **** ****!?
Not sure if it's an AT&T issue, or iPhone or both. I drove out of town and was able to make calls again. Once i returned the problem resumed. I called AT&T and they have no knowledge of network outages in my area. My girl's co-worker (also an iphone owner-3Gs) is having the same issue.
I put up with AT&T's horrid service with crappy coverage and failed calls all the time but this is far worse. I CAN'T USE MY PHONE!
Somebody please help me before I murder this thing and buy a Droid X.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it does not make a difference. It still shows "iPhone not available. iPhone and Mac have to be in the same network"
Are there any settings which are fundamental on the iPhone, I have activated:
    - iCloud Drive
    - FaceTime (FaceTime and iPhone Mobile Calls activated)
The only strange thing - on Yosemite I can activate mobile phone number AND email in FaceTime whereas I can activate just my email in the FaceTime app on my iPhone...

  • Can't make receive calls or texts

My blackberry and other blackberry phones who are used inside my house do not work but are fine outisde the building! Who should i ask about this problem to get it sorted?

Well, regardless, if the device works outside the building, but not inside, that's still a network problem EVEN if others are able to access the network.

  • Network lost - Can't make phone calls, texts etc

    Please help
I have an iphone 4, and over the last week I have had a problem pop up that says "network lost" and how I need to choose another carrier. I have done all suggestions to solve it (reset the network, turn on 3G etc etc) but nothing has helped.
I'm with orange EE and not only was the signal bad before but now I have basically no phone.
To solve the issue I borrowed another iphone 4 off of a friend, and after 4 days or so of having it, on the train back from London today it began to get "No Service" and "Searching..." and now I get the same pop up?
Please can someone help me solve this, before I change my network and switch to Samsung!!!!!!!!

You can try a hard reset by holding down the home button and the lock button at the same time until the apple appears. If that doesn't work I think you should definitely go into an apple store.

  • Straight Talk iPhone 5 can't receive calls/texts

iPhone 5 can't call/text or receive calls/texts. Straight talk is my carrier. I have had the phone since Christmas. It has worked perfectly all of this time. On June 27, I came home and the problems started. Can't call/text receive calls/texts. Can't get on the internet unless I connect to my router. Called straight talk and they rudely told me to just go outside when I wanted to make a call or text. Problems began to escalate. Phone wouldn't work outside my house or on my porch. It only works when I go very far from my house and even then it is testy. Now it won't connect to my router unless I'm right next to it. Called apple today and the support person had me update Network Settings. It worked! So excited, was able to make calls and text. Told the lady thank you and was thrilled that all seemed to be fixed. Set my phone down and came back to it in about five minutes. Guess what. It was having the same old problems again. Don't know what else to do. If I don't get any answers here. I suppose I'll call apple again. Hoping someone here is having the same problems and knows what is going on. Also, does anyone know what tower iPhone 5 uses with Straight Talk? I've heard it's Verizon, but I've also heard it's AT&T. Any help would be soooo much appreciated!

There might be another carrier fix.
    You can go to Settings>General>About
Wait a few seconds and if there is a new carrier push, a prompt will show asking to update carrier settings
Also you might want to check these out as well.
