Iphone 5 can't open a spreadsheet

After updating iOS to 7.1 I was unable to open an Excel spreadsheet.  Any ideas?

HS,
If you recently purchased a new computer, call AppleCare and describe your problem. Others who have done this have received an iWork '09 disk in the mail with which to do the conversion.

  • When I export my number file in Excel, I can not open the spreadsheet : Invalid Reference, what's wrong ?

When I export my number file in Excel, I can not open the spreadsheet : Invalid Reference, what's wrong ?

"Invalid reference" usually means there is a cell reference in a formula to a cell that does not exist in the document.
In this case, it could mean that your Numbers document uses a feature that is not supported by MS Excel, and because of that, the document cannot be translated into an Excel file.
A more specific answer would require a more detailed description of your Numbers document.

  • Can't open Numbers spreadsheet on iMac Yosemite

    iMac 3.2; 8gb
    Yosemite 10.10.2
    Numbers 3.5.2 (2118)
When I click on File: Open, I get a complete list of all my spreadsheets but several are greyed out and have the iCloud download symbol next to them. I can't open these spreadsheets and don't know how to start (restart?) the downloading process.
Could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

If I then again select the iCould Drive  I assume the documents will be automatically downloaded?
Yes they will, and it has never failed to do so for me. I don't blame you for being concerned though, and I strongly recommend you store backup copies on your local machine before turning off iCloud Drive. To do that you need to be able to access them first though. If you are unable to do that, you have nothing to lose.
Network conditions are unpredictable and it may take some time for the documents to download. Even under ideal conditions it takes a few moments, minimum. If Apple's services become available for whatever reason, as they did a couple of weeks ago, your documents will be irretrievable until they fix that - unless of course they are already stored on your local machine.
There have been several occasions in which iCloud Drive and related document syncing has not performed as well as I would like it to, but the overall trend has been positive. It has yet to instill complete confidence, for the reasons you described.
The Genius Desk supervisor said that there was a problem with the Store's servers and iCloud and that this would probably work when I got the machine back home and connected to my network.
Sounds like wishful thinking on their part. Did it work as they described?

  • Can't Open Old Spreadsheets

I have new version of Numbers (3.01) and can't open my old spreadsheets. Says I need to save them in Numbers '09 format. How do I accomplish this?

It sounds like your spreadsheets are Numbers v1 from iWork '08. Unfortunately, the new versions of the iWork apps cannot open any iWork '08 or earlier files. I suggest that you buy a retail copy of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon or eBay & then update to the new iWork apps in the Mac App Store. You might check this link for the iWork '09 trial. I have no idea if it is still available.
If you’ve already purchased the new iWork apps in Mavericks, you can use this trick to get Numbers 2.3. If you still have access to a Mac running Mountain Lion. It must be Mountain Lion or Lion. Snow Leopard won't work. If the iWork '09 apps are installed, compress them & delete the originals. Launch the Mac App Store & click on the 'install' buttons under the iWork apps. You will get a message that you can't install the new version on this Mac but it will offer to download the previous version for you. Voilá, you have the self-contained apps that you can copy to another Mac.

  • Can't open one spreadsheet.

I am running Numbers '09 2.3 on an OS X 10.9.2 Mac Book Pro.  I can open other spreadsheets but not one that I use fairly often. It says I need a newer version of Numbers to open this spreadsheet.  But why should I when it was created and has always been opened with this version of Numbers.

    Hi Nelle,
If you have allowed automatic updates from App Store, (or if you allowed Update All when you installed OS X 10.9.2) it is likely that you now have Numbers 3.1. Numbers '09 has been moved to a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. The icon on your Dock continues to point to Numbers '09.
If that document was opened and saved in Numbers 3, it can't now be opened in Numbers '09.
Look in your Applications folder (not the subfolder iWork '09) for Numbers. Drag that icon to your Dock. Both versions can be run at the same time.
Numbers '09 on the left (three column chart).
Numbers 3.1 on the right (four column chart).
If that document opens with Numbers 3.1, you can File > Export > Numbers '09
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • I have numbers on my ipad and after the latest update I can't open a spreadsheet in it, a very important spreadsheet. I have rebooted a number of times but this does not seem to have fixed it can someone advise what I can do??

I have an ipad and have just downloaded the lastest update, now I have a very very important spreadsheet that will not open!!!! other spreadsheets open fine but for some just this one will not open. I have rebooted the ipad and tried re-syncing but to no avail, can anyone HELP?????

  • Can't Open Numbers spreadsheets in iCloud

I'm hoping someone can help me ... I have some numbers spreadsheets saved in iCloud.  When I go to open them, it says that the file can't be opened, whether I try to access it from my Mac or from the Icloud website.  I was able to get a preview of some of the documents so at least i can start over, but one document is password protected and I can't get it to open.  I've tried saving it to my desktop, changing the extension, looking at the permissions, and no luck.  This is so frustrating!  I do have a time machine back up but since this is stored on the cloud I'm not sure if it would have saved a file on the machine.
Any advice appreciated, I saved things on iCloud to ensure that if my computer crashed I'd still have access and it seems that was not the right thing to do!
    Thanks much.

Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers normally wouldn't show up in a Spotlight search. But you should be able to find it in Finder by holding down the option key and choosing Library from the Go menu.
If it's not there then that suggests you haven't been successful in activating iCloud sync on your Mac. You might check setttings in two places in System Preferences > iCloud.
Documents and Data must be checked:
AND, after clicking 'Option...', this Numbers.app must be checked:
If these two boxes are both checked and you're still having trouble then try signing out of iCloud and back in.

  • Can not open new apps downloaded on my iphone, can not open new apps downloaded on my iphone

i have downloaded new apps fr apple store. after syncing it with my iphone, all new apps downloaded can not be open.. help

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Create a user profile that accurately reflects the type of hardware you're using and your version of OS X, or include that information in your first message.
Give details of the problem. A remark such as "X doesn't work" conveys no useful information. If X did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I expected B; but I got C." Include the complete, verbatim text of any error messages you saw, and specify where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever.
Also describe the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, give details.

  • New iphone can't open in itunes

Apple recently replaced my old iphone 4S with an identical newer one, but when I plugged it in to itunes and tried to open the "iphone" page, it said that my request could not be processed:
I have restarted my phone, itunes, and my computer, but it's still not working. Any ideas?  Thanks!

What were you trying to do in iTunes?  Are you trying to activate your new device?
If you are receiving this error, you most likely need to put your phone into recovery mode and then restore it in iTunes.
To place device in recovery mode:
    Open iTunes
Make sure phone IS NOT connected to iTunes
Press Home Button & Sleep/Wake button at the same time until you see the Apple appear on your screen
Once you see the Apple let go of ONLY the sleep wake button
Continue holding the home button and plug your phone into iTunes
You should see a message that a device has been detected in recovery mode
You can acknowledge this request and then restore the iphone to factory settings.  This usually fixes the issue.

  • Can't open my spreadsheets

I have several spreadsheets in my documents but all of a sudden I am unable to open any of them. Like 'Numbers' is not responding??

Force Quit Numbers, then relaunch it while holding down the Shift key. This will suppress reopening the document that won't load.
