IPhone 5 Car compatability

I'm starting this thread as an information outlet to all those iPhone 5 users that want to see what works and doesn't work when it comes to the new iPhone 5 and device compatability. What does and doesn't need the adapter.
My question I want to pose is that do you think that an iPhone will work through the USB/lightning with a non factory, in dash JVC KW HDR81BT stereo system in a car?
Feel free to share and ask others about similar inquiries.

I have the iPhone 5 and the JVC KW-AV70BT.
I have no functionality when attempting to use USB related functions with the iPhone 5 that previously were working with the iPhone 4S.
I searched for a software update from JVC but I was unable to locate anything.
I also searched for any statements regarding functionality with iPhone 5 and the only mention from JVC about the iPhone 5 that I could find is the link posted below.  I'm not sure of it's authenticity as I was unable to find the same press release on JVC's own website or anywhere else.
http://www.twice.com/articletype/news/jvc-outlines-iphone-5-compatibility-curren t-head-units/103529
"The head units also continue to control the portable devices’ song selection and display their album art, said marketing GM Chad Vogelsong."
"App Mode continues to work as usual in current head units with that feature, enabling the head units to control select iPhone 5 music-streaming apps, play back their music, and display album art, Vogelsong said."
In my case, the two quotes above are untrue based on my own testing with the iPhone 5 and the JVC KW-AV70BT.  When attempting to use the USB related functions (iPod mode, Pandora mode, App mode) the display on the JVC KW-AV70BT just displays "Reading Now..." and stays that way until I select another mode.
"Current head units with stereo Bluetooth also maintain Bluetooth functionality when used with the iPhone 5, he added."
Thankfully, this statement is true.  The Bluetooth functions are working just as they did with my iPhone 4S.
I hope the USB functionality can be restored through a software update to the JVC unit.
In the event it cannot be fixed, it may be a good excuse to pursue another option I have been entertaining.  The idea I have is to remove the radio entirely and replace it with an LTE iPad mini.  I believe the iPad mini will fit nicely in the radio opening of my Honda Ridgeline.  I will need to fabricate a trim bezel and a way of securely docking the iPad mini so it doesn't move while driving.

  • IPhone 4 32GB compatibility with Volvo USB

    Hello.
I have a problem to use the USB connection with my Volvo C30 -2011. It worked with my iPhone 3GS 32GB. But when i connect the new one it tells me "Unreadable unit". Anyone else with the same problem? How to solve it?

Confirmed with an iPhone 3GS with OS4. This was working in my 2010 Volvo XC60 before OS4. One variation on the reported issue is that it would play for 1 minute before the USB Unreadable error message is displayed. Unplugging and plugging back in would only cause the same issue again. Tried the fix just now and it worked perfectly (turn off iPhone completely, plug in to car, stereo on and in USB mode). The iPhone powered up from off and rebooted. Pressed OK when prompted about the device compatibility. Note you may have to skip the first track for the fix to take effect. Apple (I know you are reading this Steve) please fix in the next release - Very frustrating!

  • Iphone 5 bluetooth compatibility

The iphone 5 isn't compatible with the bluetooth in my 2011 car that uses Uconnect, won't recognize the device, worked fine with the iphone 4.  Called VW and Apple, they told me to call Uconnect, Uconnect says they're waiting for apple to fix this problem.   I can get music thru the mp3 jack but the bluetooth part won't work at all.  Anyone have any insight?

    Hi Sdani93,
Please check with Apple support whether the Sony MEX-BT3900U Audio system comes under the list of compatible devices supported by iOS 6 operating system. Sony has already made their devices available to Apple for checking their compatibility.

  • Problem after iOS5 with pairing iPhone with Car

I have a Lexus is250 which paired beautifully with my iPhone and I was able to play music from phone in my car.  Since the upgrade, I cannot.  I have "repaired" "Blue tooth audio", the radio in car "looks" like it is playing (you can use the controls on the car stereo to forward through playlist and it forwards on phone" but no sound comes out.  This worked perfectly fine before iOS.  Any ideas?  I've deleted and re-paired phone twice....

Same problem here with a 2011 Subaru Outback/Harman Kardon sound system. My iPhone 3GS used to work very well and auto-connect with the Harman Kardon system under iOS 4, but after upgrading to iOS 5 the iPhone looses connectivity each time I power the iPhone off and back on. It will keep connectivity as long as I do not do this. Turning the car off and back on works fine, connectivity re-establishes immediately. I even reset my iPhone and re-installed firmware and everything else - problem persists. SHAME ON APPLE FOR LOOSING CORE FUNCTIONALITY IN FAVOR OF BRINGING IN LOTS OF GIMMICS THAT ARE OF LITTLE OR NO USE IN EVERYDAY LIFE. SHAME ON APPLE ALSO FOR NOT PROPERLY BETA-TESTING THEIR SOFTWARE AND MAINTAINING BACKWARD-COMPATIBILITY IF THAT IS THE PROBLEM. We users should be entilted to monetary compensation from Apple whenever a software "upgrade" negatively affects a core functionality. Tim Cook, please correct some of the flawed corporate policies the belated Steve Jobs implemented. Apple still has a lot of room for improving! First of all, focus on optimizing core functionalities and their robustness before wasting time on changing icons or other cosmetic features.

  • Car compatibility with 2015 Mazda 6

I have recently purchased a 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring and am very pleased with the vehicle. However, it was not until I attempted to set up the messaging feature that I realized my iPhone 5 is not compatible. It will play bluetooth music and will make and receive phone calls via bluetooth, but the car was advertised to me as having a feature that read text messages/email to me and would allow me to respond verbally (a big selling point for safety and practicality). I then checked the phone compatibility guide and iPhone 5 on iOS7 is not compatible. Does anyone know if iOS8 or iPhone 6 will be? I hate to leave the iPhone/Apple community that I've been a part of for so long, simply because it is not compatible with my car, but the car is the larger, more permanent purchase and I'd like it to function with all features. My phone contract is up shortly and I need to make a phone decision. For the record, all of the Android phones I have researched are fully compatible with the car.
I've visited a variety of Mazda forums, which all have outdated responses and no new information regarding the 2015 car models nor the IPhone 6 or iOS8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPhone 4 Car Connection (USA Spec Intergration) And Docking

    Hi,
I'm likely going to be getting the new iPhone 4 when it rolls out on Verizon. First off, please don't tell me how big of a mistake I'm making and alike. AT&T is terrible in my area, and most of the people I talk to (work or friends) have Verizon. If I hear anything about a future iPhone for LTE, then I may rethink, but as it sits, I'll be getting one in February. Data use during a call isn’t a major issue for me, nor is FaceTime… but I do have Wi-Fi connections at home and at work, if need be.
Currently, I have a first generation iPod Touch (16GB, with the current OS that I really cannot remember off the top of my head) which I use in my 2002 Impala with a USA-Spec interface. It is a 3G version, which I've had ever since it came out. Anyways, I saw that they have an iPhone 4 version, so I will likely have to swap the box out when I move to it... which is easy due to where I mount it. All the wires are ran, so it is just unplug and swap.
My question is if anyone has that setup with their iPhone 4, and if so, how does it work in your car? My main thing is music, since I mainly use my iPod strictly as a music library for my car. With the iPhone, I’m hoping to eliminate carrying a phone, as well. From how I read it on USA-Spec’s website, the music will mute and you will hear a ring through the speakers… when you answer, the speakers cut and you use it just like a regular phone. I’m sure that this is a small group of people, but if someone does have this setup, would a Bluetooth headset work? I’m actually emailing USA-Spec about this, but wanted input if there are actual users.
I also have a HMDX dock that I use sometimes to listen to my iPod when doing reports or whatever else for work. I kind of remember it being compatible for the iPhone, but not completely sure on that. Anyways, it just charges and plays music over a speaker… so it should work with the iPhone 4 with the correct adaptor, correct? If I can get away with it, I’d like to use it for charging when I’m at work… then get another one for home.
    Thanks,
    -John

    @SH.
I am sorry you are having this problem. Sure it's convenience, but it is very helpful. I, too, had this problem at first in my car...worked perfectly with 3G, but same problems with 4. Then, when I did get a connection, the audio was terrible. Before, people could hardly tell I was using the car bluetooth..now they ask me to go back to the handset.
Every car system is different and I understand that but what I had to do and what worked was that I got my old 3G phone back in and then with it in the car, I disconnected the device within the iPhone 3G, then in the car system, I had it 'remove paired phone'.
Then, I synched my 4phone from back up and then paired the phone by making the 4 discoverable and having the car system find it...
And all has been well since then.
I hope that works. I would also try calling your car manufacturer and see if there needs to be an update..I had to update my system when I got the 3G...
Otherwise, you may indeed have a defective phone.
    Good luck.

  • Bluetooth iPhone 4s car stereo very quiet

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me with an audio problem. Sometimes when I connect by iPhone 4s to my car stereo via Bluetooth, the audio is very quiet. Even with my volume turned all the way up on my phone and car stereo. Then other times ill connect them and it'll play normal and very loud. And way to fix this so it's loud all the time?-(when's it's quiet I turn it all the way up and it's still like background noise...)
    TIA

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5S in my Subaru.  Until someone can offer a fix, I am resorting to using FM, only.

  • My dream- an iphone 3g car adapter and charger WHICH

Lets me decide on whether or not to charge while playing music or not to charge... Why I want this? because if I charge my iphone for 30 min every day it wil kill the already weak battery. So I rather have a car adapter that could be used as a charger but just when I want it to charge...
if you have seen something like that- please share with me!
    Thanks.

    Thank you for your answers..
I will explain again to better understand- I usually work the night shift, which means I leave my house around 2 pm and get back around 1 am. I charge the iphone when I get back until I get up which fully charges it. The drive to work takes me around 30 min which means that The iphone will get charged for 30 min when I'll make my way there, at that time the iphone will be most likly at around 90-85% because it's been on the go for about 3-4 hours.
Then I will charge it again for 30 min- on my way back when it will most likely have around 10-20% left. I will then charge it completely when I'll get home till morning... Will this be good or bad for the battery?
