IPhone 5 Cases - Style vs Protection

The iPhone 5 is a stylish piece of tech and it's one of the main reasons many people get it.
Do you feel adding a case takes away from the style? (no case)
Do you feel you need extra protection to keep it safe from harm? (bulky otterboxes)
Or do you add your own style to make it unique? (for example, custom iphone 5 cases)

I am new to the iPhone craze, but after a couple of days using the "naked" phone I did not feel safe leaving it that way.  Holding it by the thin sides between two fingers, as I sometime do, was way too slippery feeling and insecure.  I bought a basic soft case, have a couple now, and a glass screen protector since then.  The cases are very form fitting, and rather cheap too.  It gives me much better grip around the edges, and a sense of security too.  I may move on  up to a bulkier one with even more protection but only if I really like the colors and design and decide it doesn't take too much away from my slim, sleak new iphone.

These details came from www.marware.com web site, however you can save $$$ by purchasing them online at www.macmall.com for those interested in this type of leather case. I've used this same style and brand name for the Original, 3G & 3G(s) models I've owned the past 3 years with great success and protection. I'm waiting for the one specifically designed for the phone 4 to arrive any day now. This case has enabled me to re-sell all of my iPhones well above what I paid for them, all in which have been in "mint condition" as I feel is a result of using such a great case and I then get the new models for absolutely free due to the profits made on my retired models. I recently sold my White 16G 3G(s) for for $375 which paid for my new iPhone 4, the AppleCare Protection Plan and this new case, all with money left over. It's obviously treated me very well and just thought I'd share this with those "still on the fence" about what case to buy. I also highly doubt that Apple is going to have this as an available option to choose from for free. iPhone 4 is awesome and mine has been operating flawlessly since removing it from the box. Kudos to Steve and the entire Apple Staff responsible for this beautiful and simply magnificent device.

Yes, don't feel it is as black&white as other posters here, but it is impractical.
What is the value of your time for example?  If you are not self-employed, were you still being paid during these 8 hours.  A court would consider actual economic loss, did you lose money during these 8 hours?   And do you/your employer pay customers in similar situations?  In my experience, you get credit based on the service (e.g. the 1 day credit) rather than being paid for your time.
And on the flip side, if I call up Verizon complaining that my phone doesn't work, and it turns out that I had forgot to charge it, do you want to be billed for the rep's time when it was your mistake?  (Of course, wireline DOES do this, if Verizon dispatches a repair tech and the fault is inside your house etc (without a wiring contract) you do get charged)
Certainly the one day credit is the minimum they should provide.  As others have said, your real recourse is to return the phone.

  • IPhone 4 cases:  How much protection do you think it needs?

Got my iPhone 4. Luckily, it works perfectly so far.
But I do think the phone looks much more fragile and breakable than my old 3G.
Now, I don't mind a thin, attractive case because I'm slightly clutzy and it's gonna drop out of my pocket a few times, this I know.
So I bought a case from a mall vendor that's no name but seems well made -- thin silicone that covers the back and the sides. $15. Do I need to do better?
My question(s) to everyone are... how thick and sturdy do you think we need to go to protect the iphone 4 from a drop? And what is the best case material for withstanding a fall? Is there something you've found that is not too bulky and industrial looking -- or does it need to be thick and padded to be truly protective?
And can I avoid spending $30 on a case (or that Apple bumper thing) and feel like my phone is protected?
I know nothing about this stuff so would love some opinions. Thanks!

  • Style over protection?

    Hi!
I'm thinking about switching iPhone 5 cases. The one I'm thinking about buying is a Pokedex style one and I think most of them are either Capsule and Deflector from Redbubble.
I currently have an Otterbox and I love the protection and I do not mind the big size. I tend to be careless with my electronics which is why I love the Otterbox. However, I also love the Pokedex cases and the Otterbox is kind of boring.
Is it worth it over the Otterbox? And which is better? The Capsule or Deflector case?
    Thank you!!!

If you tend to be careless about your electronics like be then I recoomend that you get a case for protection rather than style. I wouldn't mind having a cute case on my phone but I constantly drop mine so I decided to make sure I had a case that will protect it. If you think the Otterbox is a little big then try the LifeProof cases, it cost more but I have one and its slim and worth every penny to me.

  • I Was Told About an iPhone 4s Case that Really...

In an Apple Forum I posted about a protective but not limiting case since I have trouble with dropping, hitting, etc. expensive things like large phones. Someone told me about a case, said he was thinking about getting one, did not sound too excieted about it, but I saw it at Best Buy and after looking for a year for a practical, case I could tell that this one was going to do what I needed in a case.  In this group of cases one really stood out but if it helps there was one that was like a holster.  I have got a major problem when I am carrying something like an expensive phone, laptop, etc. I drop them (my first MBP, it had to go back to Apple because I cracked the display costing me an additional $1000 just from jitting it by accident against the wall)  I wish I could remember the name of this case.  I came here hoping someone would say it because I was so excieted when I saw it, like I said after looking for a year, I could tell that this one was going to help me out a lot save the phone from being ruined after the first week. Yea Otter is OK but it seems like it would collect more dirt than anything else, this one just really felt to me that it would allow me to not have the iphone destroyed in a month.
It was not fancy, but so practical.  Anyway, I will see if someone says the name of it.
I am looking to get a new iPhone 4S (guess why?) and my contract at Verizon was up a year ago. I see that ATT advertises that only AT&T's Network let's your iPhone 4S download 3 times faster?  Is this true?
A friend of mine sent me some emails from his iPhone 4S and his email adress was his phone number.  Is this an app or does the iPhone 4S allow you to send emails and get your emails without an additional app?
Still not sure what carrier is the best.  I know I sound like I am all set but then I hear from someone and they make a good point.
Any idea if the next iPhone will be 4G?
thanks, I am just looking for some assist. in the areas I just have no idea on like what plan.  How does one decide what plan. Is the mobile hot spot one can make the iPhone 4S due allow one to surf on their MBP while on a car trip or do you need another type of MIFI by Novetel for that?

Which lifeproof case did you get?  Does it look pro along with being super durable? I need one that I can take into meetings and leave it out on the desk along with it being super durable like the ones on Ballistic Case Co.com.
Do you have invisibleshield or can't you use that with your case?  some of the durable cases have their own cover so they do not allow the invisible shield to be used.
Do you have a clip for your pants or to clip the case somewhere else?
I think why they don't get better ratings is not because they are super durable and take care of the iPhone  but because they are not the best looking case out there including ones like some on the Ballistic Case Co.com website.  I have heard people say that they look cheap, like a cheap plastic.  I actualy started this post awhile back and I forgot the name but one night it came to me.  I am still looking  for a case that has the durability like LifeProof but a tad better looking and more professional.  Hard to explain if you don't see that but that is why I have not purchased one yet is because I need a case like LifeProof but more professional looking lie the ones at BallisticCaseCo.com.  Speck makes a good looking, classy durable iPhone 5 case too.  I think it is Speck.

  • I think I've found the best iPhone 3G case, What do you think?

Just wanted to post some feedback on my experience with the ivyskin Glass Touch-Thru Ultrathin iPhone 3G Case.
Yes I signed up just to write this review after being a perverse voyeur on these forums for awhile now, but I am no way affiliated with ivyskin. I recommend this case hands down, it has all that I was looking for in one. It's hard shell case with real glass touch screen built into the case. All ports are covered with a soft silicon so is the home button. The best part is that they'll be introducing a QuattroPac battery extension that fits into this case later next month.
Putting it on is simple but you need to be careful about the volume switch, you need to insert the iPhone into the case from that side as instructed on the manual because I didn't want to break anything or scratch my phone, anyway it is quite simple.
You should check this case out before you look at anything else, or after you look at all the cases to compare.

Is a few scratches on the back of the phone going to break it? Technology is there to be used not to pamper, do you guys have a silk pillow to let your phone rest upon at night...
No, but having slippery hands and accidentally dropping the iPhone will. A case will give you a much better grip and a lot better protection (if not 100%) should you ever drop the iPhone. I've seen people have iPhones without cases and dropping them accidentally only to have cracked their screens that they have to fork out more money to fix or replace them.
    Are you really that obtuse?

  • Iphone 4 case scratch...

Hey guys I have been hearing stories from people that iphone 4 cases leave scratches on the exterior of the phone. I am thinking of buying a case because this would protect my phone in case I drop it. However, I am faced with this dilemma of whether I should because I dont wana scratch the phone either. What do you guys think about this? Do you guys have any suggestions on which case to get (like the rubber ones or the hard plastic ones) in order to prevent scratching?

I ordered ghost armor ( www.ghost-armor.com ). They have it available for Verizon iPhones. I ordered the full body case one. So the phone'll be protected even under the case. It's stronger and more resistant than InvisiShield.
    Also, here's a 10% discount promo code: GA4LAUP
    ;D
Other than that, I'm getting the Waddler Case (it looks like a penguin!) from www.case-mate.com . They're the only site I found (beyond Verizon and Apple) that actually have Verizon iPhone cases available. And they've got quite a variety too! Yay! =D

  • What's a durable iphone 5s case that still reveals the gold?

I really want to find a good, strong case that will protect my phone from cracking. However, I want the gold to still be visible even with the case on. Does anyone know of any cases that meet this criteria?

I got this one http://www.bodyglovemobile.com/cell-phone-cases/apple/iphone-5s/mysuit/.  I like it a lot - my only complaint is that you can't use the lightning adapter with the case on.

  • Where can I get a really low-priced iPhone 3G case?

Where can I buy a high quality, good, preferably new, iPhone 3G case that is very low in price? I'm talking below $5.
Thanks. Remember, I want a *high quality* case that will last a while and will actually *protect my phone*.
And try to give me something that YOU would buy if you didn't have a lot of money to spend on a case

    Hi Zahid K,
I don't know of an iPhone case that costs less than $5, but you can find list of iPhone cases with ratings and reviews on the Apple online store.

  • IPhone 4 Cases...  Can anyone recommend one?

I have the iPhone 4 "Bumpers" which are great but they don't offer me the amount of protection I would like to have for it. I'm referring to mainly the touch screen getting scratched or otherwise trying to carry it around w/me.
Can anyone recommend a good iPhone 4 case or a good place to purchase one?
    Thanks!

You don't need to be in an industrial environment to get dust, lint and moisture in the ports/switches of the phone. Look at all the posts in this forum about "stuck in headphone mode" and "no sound" due to crap getting in the headset jack. How about "unsupported accessory" messages due to dirt in the dock port and all the post about moisture sensors triggering without immersion due to inadvertent sprays.
The Defender covers ALL ports, buttons and switches, keeping what you don't want out. It even covers the ring/silent switch avoiding unintended "silent mode"... Definitely ugly though.

  • IPhone 5 Cases/ Bumpers

ok so im sure those of us sporting our fresh iPhone 5s have seen the articles showing how easily sratchable the new back is.
    http://modmyi.com/content/8852-black-iphone-5-anodized-aluminum-reportedly-prone -scratches.html
    terrifying, i know!
after seeing this i immediately jumped onto the apple store to get a bumper, only to find that apple dont actually sell any cases for their freshest product...
anyone else find this a bit strange? i mean they know that their customers are more than willing to splash out £15 on a case, so why not sell them?
anyway if any of you guys know good third party cases id be more than happy, amazon only offer some cheapy things and in my experience these always tend to have a loose fit..
    thanks!

    Minimal Max,
I too am in the same boat as you are mate. I pre-ordered my phone and my otterbox defender. The otterbox has not arrived but the phone has. Except the phone will NOT cme out of the box until the Otterbox is delivered! Hopefully tomorrow....with that said, there are two options I considered. The Otterbox Defender Series and the Life Proof iPhone 5 case. I went with the OB because of 1) I am a loyal OB Customer already. ( My iPhone 3GS has been a) run over my by ambulance. Phone was perfet. OB replaced the case for free. b) same iphone in OB case was left on top of my car. As I drove off I watched the frightful flight of my phone flying, then landing on the side of the road. Except I didn't know it was my phone. 8 hours later, I saw my phone on the side of the road. Intact! not a scratch and again OB replaced the case. So that is why c) I ordered the Defender Series again because of past perfrmance of the prodcut and customer service but most of all becaue it is AVAILABLE.
The downside to the OB Defender case was the 30 pin connector didn't fit non apple equipment and some 1/8 stereo jacks dont fit in it either, unless you take the case off.
I will take a very hard look at the Life Proof Case when it comes out. Truth be told if it was available at the same time the otter box was I would have spent the extra money and ordered the Life Proof Case. I like the fact it is waterproof, not resistant, waterproof case, a rugged waterproof case that can take a beatng. I have seen it first hand with friends and partners who have the Life Proof Case. I was skeptical about the "waterproof" claim...Well it is a great feature of the case. I have seen from these friends, underwater iPhone video. Yes they have taken snorkeling videos with their iPhone 4 and 4S with only the Life Proof Case in 15-20 feet of water.
Either way you are getting exactly what you are spending, $50 or $80 for IMHO, the best rugged protection on the market today for your iPhone 5. they are not the lightest or slimmest cases. They are, again IMHO, the best rugged protection out there today (or soon to be out there) iPhone 5 cases. Life Proof isn't delivering yet but you can sign up on their website for notification. Otter Box is out and selling. Good luck! You can't go wrong with either one!

  • What iPhone 4 cases do you guys like?

    Hey everyone,
I'm looking for the slimmest, clearest iPhone 4 case out there!
Griffin cases are one of my favorites.  Anyone have any other suggestions?

Little late to the game here as I just upgraded to a 4S (hand me down). I picked up a Speck Candyshell (http://www.speckproducts.com/iphone-case/iphone-4-case/candyshell-for-iphone-4s. html), a Caudabe Concentric (http://www.caudabe.com/collections/iphone-accessories/products/iphone44s-concent ric-pearlwhite) and a Caudabe Satin Series Shell (http://www.caudabe.com/collections/iphone-accessories/products/iphone44s-shell-r ubyred)
The Speck is great. Fits well, full protection. Only thing is that the rubber sides (or whatever material that is) has started to fray a little bit. But other than that, I love the case. It is probably a tad bit bulkier than I'd like, but I guess there's nothing they can do about that for such comprehensive protection.
The Caudabe cases look a lot better than the Speck in my opinion. The Concentric is quite stylish, with a fabric back that feels great to the touch. I also like how the sides of the case are transparent, which allows the iPhone's form factor to shine through. Lately, I've been using the Satin Series Shell which is apparently only 0.6 millimeters thin (or so they claim on their website). It is definitely very thin and the coating gives a sort of metallic sheen that changes shades depending on the light. Really gorgeous.
Also looking at the Spigen SGP bumpers, but they seem a little pricy for what you get.

    Dusty,
I purchased an iphone 4 case, but the quality of the screening to the case isn't that great. The image if off center to the left & fuzzy. I'm not sure if the fuzziness is caused by the textured fabric on the back of the case or the image being over scaled. Either way, i'm returning it. I'm hoping the next one will be better.
I'm not sure if you have a choice of the cases back fabric/texture and/or choosing the sizing of the image on the case. I suggest you look into it. I'll take a photo so you can see what I mean.

  • Most durable case style for flip phone (LG Revere)?

    Hi,
I'd like to know what case style provides the best protection for flip phones like the LG Revere (particularly when dropped)? I'm looking for a case that does not need to be removed to use the phone. I'm choosing between the fitted case style like the leather Verizon Wireless fitted case (or Body Glove Soft Fitted Case ) and a rubberized plastic snap-on shield like this one. or if you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears.
I'd appreciate any advice you may have. thanks

I'm not sure which would be more durable or more protection - one comment I do have is that the fitted case will fit differently when the phone is open.  When I used a case similar on flip phone I had the leather would buckle when the phone was opened (on a call).  The hard case will not have that happen.  The hard case, on the other hand, does not have the belt clip - doesn't look like that's even an option, and if you like to carry it that way, the hard case won't work.
I guess it depends on YOU.  Do you carry it on your belt or in a pocket?  Do you mind if the leather buckles a bit when on a call?
