IPhone 5 Data / Media Storage Capacity

I plan to upgrade from an iPhone 4 to 5 but am a bit confused on whether I should get the iPhone 5 16GB, 32GB or 64GB. Based on the new iPhone 5 features, can someone please tell me how many photos, songs and minutes of videos from the iPhone 5 video camera can be stored on a 16GB ? Thanks.

Thanks, guys.
CoasterFanFL - yes, I'm confused coz I have an iPhone 4 and upgrading to an iPhone so there is definitely a 3 megapixels difference in the camera and possibly the quality of the video recording as well. If I get an iPhone 5 16GB and I use 2GB for songs, 2GB for applications and 2GB for photos, I wonder how much GB remaining can I use for video recording in terms of minutes. Also, my understanding is that you don't get the full 16GB of data space / storage space when you get the iPhone 5 16GB out of the box. Is this correct ?

  • Suppress data/Media Storage

I don't know if this is coincidence, but I started having a data hogging issue ever since my failed attempt at the system update.  According to My Data Manager, something called Media Storage has used 69.5 MB in the last 13 days.  In previous cycles, this app never even appeared in My Data Manager's list.  15 MB were in a 10-minute period when I was using 1 app that, as far as I know, doesn't use media. Since I was at the beginning of my billing cycle, I pretty much stopped using the mobile internet connection because I didn't want it to happen again. I also decided to install Onavo since it can block apps from using mobile internet.
Today I had to reboot my phone.  I didn't even unlock the screen until 20 minutes later, but in that time, the same app (according to My Data Manager) used over 50 MB. (I forgot that 3G comes on automatically when rebooting; it was turned off before I shut down.)  Onavo shows the culprit is Market Downloader, and I can't limit it to WiFi only.  I don't keep Background Data syncing turned on.  As far as I know, I've uninstalled every app that I installed recently (other than Onavo, which was installed after the first data hogging session).
Anyone know what this app is--and whether there's a way to stop it?  Or is there a way to prevent my phone from turning on mobile internet when I reboot so I don't have to remember that annoying quirk?  I'm almost ready to do a factory reset because I'd rather lose everything I have than pay for a data overage.
    Thanks!

  • My iPhone still has low storage capacity inspite of getting iTunes Match -

I recently got iTunes match  - hoping to get more storage space in my iPhone . My IPhone still shows 6.3 GB of stored music with still minimal capacity for further storage(550 MB)
Was I wrong in presuming I would get more storage capacity by putting my music on iTunes Match.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Even though you have iTunes Match, you will still need to delete music from the phone to create more space, although iTunes Match will automatically delete your least played music automatically when more space is needed on the phone.

  • Iphone 6 plus (16GB) storage capacity

    Hi guys.
How much storage is taken up by the operating system for ip6 plus?
I recently bought my ip6 plus and as soon as I activated the unit, I checked the capacity (Settings>>General>>About) and it says Capacity: 11.8 GB.
So the iOS is roughly 4++GB? Is it normal?
    Thanks!

The iOS is part of that.  Reporting method, like most all computers, is the rest.

You don't have to do anything with the first iPod that you don't use anymore. If you are planning on keeping it, put in a drawer in your house and forget about it.
You don't need a second account to use with the new iPod. I use one Appl e ID and iTunes library for two iPods, and two iPad. I have different content on all four devices. You can select exactly what you want to sync to each device and it can be different content on all devices.

My wife's new iPhone was automatically backing up to iCloud. Now my 5mb limit is not allowing me to get my email. I turned off the automatic backup, but I do I get the storage capacity back?

Turning off automatic backup doesn't delete anything from your account, it only stops it from continuing to back up to iCloud.  If you want to reduce your iCloud storage, this article provides some suggestions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.

my iphone 4 has no more storage capacity, i have deleted apps but its not freeing up any memory, can anyone advise?

Well if you have 3 gigs of music that is taking up half right there. Pictures and videos also take up a lot of space as well. Another thing is texts are saved on the phone. Try deleting them but texts don't nomally take up a lot of space.

  • Storage capacity of iTunes on an iPhone

Before I buy and iPhone I would like to know what is the storage capacity of iTunes is on the iPhone, average # of songs. I have 2700 songs stored on my iPod; the AT&T store rep said the iphone wouldn't hold that much but he couldn't tell me what it would hold. Also I understand that music playback uses lots of battery, is this true?

What capacity iPhone are you considering?
My 32GB iPhone 3GS currently has 2552 songs on it and is nowhere near full. It also has 2 TV series and 5 movies, plus 71 applications and 209 photos with 7.7GB free.
It all depends on what quality and length these songs you have are, and the capacity of iPhone you get.
    On a 32GB iPhone you'll easily fit 2700 songs.
Music playback does not use lots of battery. Out of all the things the iPhone can do, music playback is possibly one of the least power hungry.

  • I have recently upgraded to an iphone 5. When trying to sync/ back up with my current i tunes settings. I get the message the it 1.6GB over the storage capacity. Although when syncing my i phone 4 (same size 16GB) i do not have any problems?

iOS uses more memory on the iPhone 5 than the iPhone 4 because there are quite a few more to iPhone 5. Therefore there will be less memory available on the 5. Reluctantly iOS 7, coming this fall, uses a bit less memory than iOS 6 so if you can do without a few apps until then you should be gravy!

  • Ipod Touch showing incorrect storage capacity

I have an Ipod Touch 64 GB 5th Gen running iOS 8.2. I'm not certain when this issue occurred initially from the devices perspective - only when I first noticed it. The device was running 8.1.1.3 at the time. I was working with it in Itunes and clicked on the iPods summary screen to check for the iOS 8.2 update. I noticed the capacity of the device was showing as 56.62 GB. Available space was 43.19. The little memory symbol for the Ipod shows 64 GB. I was troubled by the capacity message. No help there. I ran the Update to iOS 8.2. Succesful. Still same capacity. Checked the iPod's Gerneral/About screen - Capacity listed 56.6 GB.
Have I lost access to 8 GB of capacity here? Should I reset the thing?
    Message was edited by: meteoricide
Total of Audio, Video and App Data is 14.12 GB.  Available shows 43.19 GB. That adds up to 57.31.GB. So there is a 700 K discrepancy. Total Photo Data happens to be 700 K. Just saying.

You only have 56.6 GB available to you. The difference between that and the 64 GB advertised capacity is taken up by:
The operating system since you can't use that for storage
and how GB is advertised and used/reported by the operating system. See:
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity - Apple Support
The update did not change anything except likely reducing the capacity by 10 or so MB since update typically add things and thus takes more storage for the operating system

  • IPhone 6 Plus 16b storage available 0 bytes

    Hello everybody,
i'm writing because it's 3 months now that i'm trying to find out (restoring, reseting my phone),
WHY even if my phone is empty/clean of apps, videos, photos, on the iTunes says that:
    a) my photos are using 188,9MB of space;
    b) my Documents and Data are using 48,9MB of space;
    c) my """""OTHERS"""""!!!!!!!!!! are using 9,16GB of space?????????
    d) free space 826,1MB,
and on the Usage of my phone says that the Used space is 11,6BG and the Available space 0 bytes?
Does someone knows what is that OTHER and how can i clean my phone?

The storage is occupied with iOS and system files. To free up some space you may try to reset and restore your device.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
Press and hold on the Home button
Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.
Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings
If this does not help, try these steps. Note that this may erase the data from your computer.
You need to restore your device to factory settings.
Take a look this Apple Support article: Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.
If this does not help, try the recovery mode. Turn your device off, then plug it to your computer with the home button pressed. You will need to have iTunes installed on this computer. Keep the Home button pressed until you see the iTunes logo on the screen of your iPhone. After that on your computer you should see the iTunes window saying your iPhone needs to be restored to factory settings. Click on the restore button.

  • IPhone 6 Plus 16gb storage doubts?

Why is it sold as 16gb of storage if the actual, real storage is then displayed (on both iTunes and the iPhone itself) as only 11.7gb?
Where is the rest of the supposed storage? Is there a way to understand why it's this way?
I'm not talking about how much I use, I'm talking about the total hardware storage.
I bought a 16gb 'cause I've always only used about 12-13gb on my old 4S (64gb), so 64 was a waste of money in the end but now 32 isn't available anymore.
I thought 16 will be more than enough, even if the real storage is then only about 15 or so.
Leaving a couple gb out for iOS updates and stuff, should be no problem.
BUT 11.7! Now I'll have to delete some things and I don't think it's fair to pay for 16 and get 11...
Anyone have an idea? Is it only my phone in particular?
