IPhone 5 - Default Video Format MP4 & MOV

When browsing through my iPhone 5 folders using my Windows PC, I noticed that my videos were "mp4" files. Yet, when I looked at another person's iPhone 5 folder, her videos were "mov" files. Out of curiosity, what is the difference? Should one choose one format over the other? And how does one change the default video format on an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2?

gripmash,
I am sorry, but it is not possible to change the video format that the ELPH 300 HS records.

  • IPhone 5 Video Formats / Resolutions

    Hi,
Apple Tech Specs for the iPhone 5 says the following:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280x720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
    http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/specs.html
That gives the maximum MP4 playable resolution as 640x480. I have the option to encode some of my videos as 640x360 MP4s or as 1280x720 MP4s. My questions are as follows:
Am I right that 1280x720 MP4s just won't play on the iPhone 5?
Is it easy for me to convert 1280x720 MP4s into H.264, which would support that resolution? If so, how? (I have access to both OSX and Windows, but would prefer to do the conversion on Windows)
Will I be able to notice any major difference on the iPhone 5 screen between 640x360 MP4s and a 1280x720 H.264?
    Thanks very much in advance!

    1. If the codec is H.264, iPhone 5 will play it;
    2. To convert videos or DVDs to 720p or 1080p videos for iPhone 5, usually, an iPhone 5 video converter has built-in output video profile for iPhone 5, you won’t any worries about the resolution, codec and format.
    3. The 720p one is clearer than the 660x360 one, however, the file size is much larger. In addition, the quality of the output video also depends on the resolution of the input video.

  • IPhone 4S video format - can I change it now?

    Hi Community ,
I shot some really funny vision of my dog on my iPhone 4S. I dragged it into the timeline of a video editing program which informed me that it's NTSC (30fps) format, not PAL. I really need it at 25fps. Is there a way to convert it to 25fps or am I stuck with it now at the wrong format?
I'd like to submit the vision to funniest home video (Australia) but they won't accept NTSC format.
Thanks so much for your help,
    Debbie

Hi Debbie, I read up a bit on these video formats and from what I gather there are no freeware converters that are reliable. Mac OS X doesn't seem to have a native utility that could address this either. You may even have to look for some shareware softwares unfortunately. Please exercise caution whenever you download software of this nature from a 3rd party.

  • IPhone/iPod Video Format

    Dear Mac Friends,
I apologize if this has been asked before but I am uncertain as to what to Search for in the threads.
I would like to convert/compress my video files so that they are playable (and Sync-able) on both my iPhone and my AppleTV (I am using "Visual Hub"). I have found that some of my converted MP4's will not sync to my iPod/iPhone while other have no issues. I cannot figure out what the diffrence is or what setting to use.
Can Anyone tell me what settings (Visual Hub) to use to convert/compress my Videos so that they'll will sync to both my AppleTV and my iPhone and retain the a quality image. I simply want to avoid have 2 copies of every video, one for my iPhone and one for my AppleTV.
Thank you in advance for you help.
    -ROD

I don't think you can convert a video file into one single format optimized for both ipod AND appleTV. Every video conversion utility that I have used has independent output options for ipod and AppleTV. In other words if you want to convert the video for use on iPod you select "covert to iPod". If you want to convert for AppleTV you select "convert for Apple TV". But there is not one single export option that encompasses both. With that said I have not used every video conversion utility that's out there...but the several that I have used that seems to be the case. Hope that helps!

  • Video formats compatible with iPhone

Looks like mp4 will and WMV will not. What formats will iPhone accept, and how can I change the wmv's to be compatible. Thanks.

If the video file plays in iTunes, select the video and at the menu bar go to Advanced and select Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone. This will duplicate the selection. Try selecting the converted file to be transferred to your iPhone via your iPhone sync preferences.

  • Error message of "video format not supported" for ATV1 for files from iTunes

I have an ATV first generation, I had to redo my windows profile and now ATV is not syncing all my movies from iTunes. It says that ATV does not support the video format from movies I downloaded from Itunes.

I've had this happen with a whole bunch of files over time. Usually it's a disk timeout - it just took too long for iTunes to start streaming the file to the Apple TV. Sometimes it's that the file has been moved/deleted/'lost' as Alley_Cat describes. Sometimes I think that the file has too high a bit rate to play on the old Apple TV or the audio isn't suitable for it.

  • I finished making an animated .gif image in FireWorks. My question is, how do I convert it into video so that when I edit video, that every video editing program recognizes it? Long story short, How do I convert animated .gif files into video formats?

I worked in Adobe FireWorks to make the animated .gif. What program do I use to convert the file from .gif to any video format: .mp4, .m4v, .avi, .wmv, etc. I want to convert it into video format, so that QuickTime Player plays the video, I can insert it into iMovie '11 and edit, and also insert it into Final Cut Pro X and edit video.

Thanks for getting back with me so promptly.  It has taken me this time to connect with the proper people to find out the information you requested.
The camera used to film the class was a Panasonic AG-HMC40P, owned by a local cable TV station; they use Kodak video encoding software, and a SD card was used to store the video.   The file extension is .mts, and the mime file is MPEG 2 transport.  He said I probably need an AVCHD converter, and the Mac app store lists 8 of those options, 4 free and 4 for up to $9.99.  He said I'll also need a converter for later plans of posting on YouTube or on the website, and while some of those in the app store might work for the later needs, he knows one app called "Compressor" that would work for the uploading later.  He also suggested I could try renaming the .mts file to .MP2T, but he wasn't sure that would work.
They don't work with Macs at the studio, but I had thought I could have some lessons there in editing, and apply what I learned to my iMac and iMovie.
First, though, I have to be able to see it and review it!
    Thanks again!

You can't play movies in iPhoto.  But, you can in quicktime, which is installed along with the OS.  Just double click on the .mov file and quicktme should start.

  • Convert avi to iPod mp4, mov to iPod video, mp3/mp4 to aac for iPod & iPhon

I think this is too simple, but can't find a better one.
    1. Download iPod Video Converter for Mac at http://www.download.com/iPod-Video-Converter-for-Mac/3000-22004-10717657.html?tag=pdpprod and run it on your Apple computer
    2. Load files you'd like to convert
Add the video or audio files you'd like to convert by clicking "Add" button in the main interface.
    3. Set output format
In "Profile" drop-down menu, you may select output format. The software allows setting different output formats according to different files.
Tips: by selecting iPod format (*.mp4) in "Profile" drop-down menu, the software will output mp4 file playable on your iPod.
    4. Set General conversion mode (Optional)
After selecting certain output format, you can choose ‘General’ tab on the right top which will show its general standard. By clicking certain settings such as 'Video Quality', ' Audio Quality', 'Output filename', you may set it.
Tips: If you like, select the output folder by clicking the ‘Browse...’ button.
    5. Preview and Trim function
After selecting a video file, you can have a preview of the file on the right bottom preview window. And you can set Start/End of the output files as you like by clicking ‘Trim’ button and edit in the Trim pop-up window.
    6. Set Advance conversion mode (Optional)
After selecting certain output format, you can choose ‘Advance’ tab on the right column which will show its advance standard. By clicking certain settings such as 'Start Time', 'Video Size', 'Bit rate' and so on, you may set it.
    7. Start converting
Finally, click "Convert" in the File menu to start converting. And after a successful conversion, the info "Completed" will show.

I bought Quicktime pro so I could convert my AVI files to watch them on my iPod video.Purchasing QT Pro does not add any more AVI support to QT than you have with the basic player. By this I mean, if you can watch it, you cant convert it. In addition, since some AVI components are not available for the Mac at all and others are m=not available for OS X, you are automatically doomed to not being able to convert "all possible" AVI format combinations.
The program converts (exports) about half the movie and then pops up a window that says it needs "more components" to finish the job.Since you indicate you can convert half the file, it sounds as if you may have installed a proprietary codec which does work but have failed to pay the registration fee to completely "unlock" the export codec. Suggest you find out which codec you are using (e.g. Flip4Mac, DivX, etc.), find out how much they want, and decide if you want to pay up.
This person would be grateful to any kind soul who can take her by the hand and walk her through the process of getting AVI movies onto my iPod video!
My best advice would be to simply not use these files and allow them the dignity of a long overdue death. However, if you must use them, then learn how to distinguish the different audio and video codecs that can be used in combination in this file container. (Us things like the Finder "Get Info," QT "Show Movie Info." QT "Show Movie Properties," or similar media player windows to for this purpose.) Next, google the codec to see if Mac components are available. Lastly, install the available codecs most needed. The problem here is if you install too few, then some files will likely not play. Install to many codecs and usually create conflicts which also prevent files from playing. (I.e., you may need to determine which components are "essential" to you and which you can live without).

  • Looking for help with converting a ppsx file to a video format such as .mov or mp4

Hi All,  I am looking for conversion software that will allow me to convert a ppsx file to a video file on OS10.5.8.

Hi Klaus1, Thanks for your response.  I can open and view the file without difficulty.  My issue is getting into a video format that I can upload to a Website for client viewing.  All the conersion products I can find are for a newer OS then 10.5.8.  I am working on a deadline of midnight tonight-and cannot upgrade that quickly.  So What I need is a conversion program that will still run on my OS

  • Video format on iPhone, wont sync my converted videos..

    Hi ,
Could someone please tell me what format/screen ratio/fps etc is accepted on the iphone? I recently aquired a software "Magic Video Converter", I am using the default "ipod" setting which is in the software. Moved everything to itunes and followed the normal method of synching, however I get the message " this video type cannot be played on this iphone".
I am just trying to figure out where I went wrong and what setting I should change.
As it stands, it is converting it using H264 codec, audio is aac, dimension is 368x208 and aspect ratio is set to auto. Frame rate is also set to auto.
The output is in mp4 format.
any advice would be appreciated. & what screen size is best for iphone?
    thanks.

Does this software also include a default iPhone selection?

  • ITunes won't sync mp4/mov on pictures folder to iPhone/iPad

This has only started happening since updating to IOS 5, on both iPad 1 and iPhone 4. The actual message is: "Some of the videos in your iTunes library were not copied to the iPhone/iPad because they cannot be pladed on this iPhone/iPad"
Problem is, these videos (some taken with the iPhone 4!) have previously sync´d before, so I know that they are the correct format (mp4´s and mov´s). I have tried deleting all pictures, and syncing again to no avail.
    I´m on a Windows 7 x64 machine.
    Can anyone help, please?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
