IPhone 5 deleting music by itself

So I got my iphone before IOS 7 came out, updated it to the new OS, even got the next update or two and everything was fine. Got home today and decided to switch out some music on my phone, and iTunes was seemingly deciding not to put any new music on my phone. I tried multiple times to get it to work (adding playists, individual songs, albums, etc) and even did a system restore. Still didn't want to work. That's when I noticed that a couple albums were missing. I decided to put my music on shuffle and go through it on a hunch and out of nowhere it started skipping a few songs here and there. It was almost like when you move a song's file location in your system to a different spot and go to iTunes and try to play the song, then it will say "file not found, would you ike to locate it?" Should I maybe uninstall then reinstall iTunes? I've already done a backup restore, hard reboot on my phone, restarted my computer, etc. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey there  Cheongwr,
It sounds like your phone is restarting unexpectedly, when it is not charging. I would reset the phone with these steps first, then test the issue again:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If it persists I would next backup the phone to iTunes on your computer with this article:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
And restore it from your backup with this article and test the issue again:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If the issue still happens after restoring from your backup, try restoring it as a new device to see if there is an issue with the backed up data itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

  • My iPhone is deleting music by itself! Please help! My computer crashed so iTunes is out of the question

A few days ago, my computer crashed, and being the Deadmau5 fan that I am, I can't survive without my concert DVDs. So I deleted all my photography apps (using the iPhone, of course) to make room for a concert movie. I didn't delete any music because by the time I deleted a few apps I had enough room. Before buying the film that was 3.6 gb, i had 5.5gb free. So I bought the film, and the phone automatically and by itself deleted 5 gigs of music that was ripped from CDs that no longer play. Need that music for my job (i know it sounds weird but trust me). Please help me I'm on my knees

If you lost your device a month ago, did you have Find My iPhone active on it before it was lost? If so, then you needed to log into www.icloud.com with your information and try to locate the device. I'm not sure about where you are receiving these emails from, but can you see the device in iCloud? If you are using another device, did you cancel the service on your other device? If so, that could be part of the problem of why you are having difficulty locating yours. To locate the device, it has to be powered on, it has to have Find My iPhone activated before it was lost/stolen, and it has to have an active internet connection. If any of that is interrupted, then it will not work.
Apple does not locate devices, so there really isn't any customer service for Find My iPhone. Not sure what you are asking about that. The Find My iPhone app on the girlfriend's phone is just another avenue for you to get into your iCloud account to try and locate the device. If it does not show up in Find My iPhone, then the device either did not have Find My iPhone active before you lost it, it is powered off, or, in case you did not have a passcode on the device, it has been erased.

  • Music app in iPhone 6 deletes music artwork and songs

I have spent hours trying to fix this, but have had to restore factory settings and replace 10,000+ songs to the phone twice now. I use a MacBook Pro with iTunes 12..0.1.26. I bought the 128GB iPhone 6 for the purpose of playing my large CD collection. What happens is that after adding music to my phone, I can listen to it without problems for a few weeks, and then suddenly one day all of the artwork will disappear, and when I try to play songs in a playlist it will flash up the name of each song one by one and then give a message that there are no songs to play. When I check the music library the songs are no longer on the phone. This happens with all songs except ones purchased from the iTunes Store.
I have set iTunes to manage music manually and unchecked all sync options. I have disabled iTunes Store and iTunes Match on the phone. I have "hidden" iTunes Radio on the phone. "Show All Music" and "Genius" are both disabled in the settings for the music app. I have turned cellular data off for the music app. I have even tried to trick Autofill by creating an empty folder to Autofill from as there is no option to turn Autofill off. I guess my problem is that I have spent a lot of money on CD's and Apple wants me to buy all of my music from iTunes. It would be cheaper to buy a new (non-Apple) phone than to buy my music twice, but I would prefer to stick with my iPhone if I can find a solution.

I have worked it out. All you have to do is sync the music from iTunes. It is not possible to delete music from the computer while keeping it on the iPhone. Then, whenever you want to add a few new songs, delete the entire phone, restore factory settings and start again. It only takes a couple of hours each time. Well done Apple - what an intuitive system.

  • Why does my iPhone 5 delete music when I press shuffle?

I am using ios 7.0.2. and have found a new problem that's been driving me crazy!
When I press the shuffle button, my phone deletes music, between 2 and 10 tracks per time. Any ideas why this is happening and ideas to resolve it?

Yes, that's the way it works. Once it's plugged in, you can turn it off. There's no harm in leaving it on, however.

  • Iphone wont delete music/resyc

  • Iphone crashed lost music and now computer won't recognize it

    Hello everyone!
So I was updating my iphone 5 (iOS 8 for sure, i think 8.1) and was adding some music when i thought i might not have enough space on my iphone. So on my iphone I deleted music and a few movies FROM the iphone, not in iTunes. My music app froze and then crashed. When i went back into the app all my music was gone except my 120 odd songs I actually purchased from iTunes. This has happened to me before and the fix was just to leave the iphone plugged into my computer and all the music would return in 20 odd minutes or so. Well after this crash my computer wouldnt recognize my iphone... some of my music came back but not even close to all (went from 5000 songs to right around 1200). Ive tried all the fixes ive read about. Restarting iphone and computer, re-installing itunes, tried a different cord, and a just about every fix possible using the device manager (i use windows 8.1). Something interesting about after it crashed was that the syncing arrows that spin around in a circle in the top left of the phone while syncing is taking place were spinning for like 12 hours after being unplugged from my computer... weird stuff. The only time I can even get my computer to recognize my iphone is even plugged in and is trying to connect is when I leave it plugged in and do a hard reset (holding down home and screen lock button) and then it recognizes it for like 10 seconds - says error code 43 and then will never reappear until I do another hard reset. I really dont know whats going on and as far as I can tell, im the first to have this type of problem, hopefully not but really appreciate any help you guys can give.

  • Why does iTunes keep deleting music from off my iPhone

Ok so my music from iphone keeps deleting itself. I keep having to restore this dumb phone only to lose my information days and sometimes hours later. This is the final straw for me. I've restored this phone 20 times in a week! Im tired of dealing with all of these technical issues so when my contract is up I'm done with this thing. Is there ANYTHING I can do in the meantime to keep from losing my music.

I'll continue the discussion. I find the item in question. There was an app that I had deleted from my iTunes but was still on my iPhone dspite numerous syncs. I deleted the separately from my iPhone and no longer received the warning message described above.
Now however, when I delate an app in iTunes not only does the app stay on the iPhone but I do not even get the warning message.
My next step is to perform a restore. Perhaps this will clear up both this problem and a series of other issues like the wi-fi on/off randomly greying out on the iPhone and having all of my music on the iPhone disappearing after a sync.

  • Deleting music from my iPhone/iPod Touch

How can I delete music from my iPhone/iPod Touch on iTunes? My original computer broke and I connect my devices to my laptop but I cannot delete to make room even when I activate my account to the laptop. It tells me non of my music is connected to the laptop and basically if I want room, I gotta restore my device but I don't want to lose all the stuff I have on it. Is there another way to delete music from the devices itself? I can delete podcast but not music...that's kind of dumb.

you can't.  The iPhone will only synch with ONE iTunes library at a time.

  • How can I delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7) when I manually manage the music in iTunes, but it has no affect on my phone's music library?

I'm attempting to delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7). When I connect it to iTunes, and the music shows up, I delete the music from the phone. When I disconnect the phone, the music is still there. The same thing happens if I try to sync the phone before disconnecting. I have "manually manage music" checked. Additionally, when I reconnect my iPhone, the music I "deleted" from it when it was previously connected to iTunes no longer appears, preventing me from trying to delete it again.
I know I can swipe left on each song to delete it on my phone, and I have been, but that takes a long time when you're trying to delete everything on your iPhone.
    Suggestions?

    Hello Salmomma,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to connect your iPhone to your Mac.  I recommend following the steps in the tutorial below for an issue like this:
    iPhone not appearing in iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
Additionally, you can delete music directly from the iPhone by swiping the song:
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.

  • How do I stop itunes from also deleting music from my iphone or ipad when I delete it on itunes on my macbook pro?

I noticed that when I delete music or a movie from my macbook pro's itunes, the minute I connect the iphone or ipad, it automaticly removes the song from the devices. I am new to Mac so I am not sure how to prevent this from occuring. I know that when I was using my Windows PC to sync my devices, on the PC's itunes I could set it up to where I would be able to add or delete music to the devised manually without this worry. If anyone can offer me some help, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

  • When I moved all my music stored in my Windows 7 user account under the My Music folder  to my PC's 'Public Music' folder, I could no longer add/delete music or movies to my iPhone using iTunes. How do I fix this?

I have been synching my iPhone with iTunes without problems for a long time.  I also used iTunes to add/change/delete Music & Videos on my iPhone with tuch contents from my iTunes Library.
One day, I decided to move all my Music stored on my laptop's Windows 7 User Account under "My Music" to the Windows 7 User "Public"  under "Public Music".  When I opened iTunes, all my music was gone so I just added the folder "Public Music" to my iTunes Library, iTunes did some work and all my music was then back, listed in my iTunes.
However, when I would synch my iPhone now, when I view the music or movie contents in my iPhone using iTunes, I can no longer ADD Music or Movies to my iPhone and I cannot delete music or movies in my iPhone using iTunes anymore.
How do I fix this?  Please help.

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • If I delete music from my iPhone will it still be saved in iCloud and can I access it again at a later date?

If I delete music from my iPhone will it still be saved in iCloud and can I access it again at a later date?

Yes. You can re-download purchased iTunes content for free, except for purchased ringtones, which are a one time download.

  • I cannot delete music from my iPhone through iTunes software on my Windows 7 computer. Why is that so?

Can you please help me out? When I bring up all my songs on my iPhone onto iTunes software, the songs are all greyed out. It does not give me the option to delete them. What do I do?

    Hello kelleywinn_1,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities. Are there additional issues with deleting your music beyond what you have described here? According to this article it is a fairly simple and straight forward process to deleting music with iTunes 11.

  • I can no longer delete music from my iPhone or IPod

I have an early iPod, my wife has an iPhone and an iPad.  I have tried to delete music (transferred from my owned CDs to the computer) and podcasts from these instruments, but when I go to my computer and attach the device like I used to, the music is greyed out and I cannot delete it.  What do I do?

Sounds like you want to manually remove content from each device.  In order to be able to do that, you need to have the Manually manage music and videos option enabled under each device's Summary tab in iTunes.
If you want to continue automatically syncing each device with iTunes, you'll need to configure each device to no longer sync the content you want removed from each device via the Music configuration tab.
