IPhone 5 FCP7 Sequence Settings....

When using iPhone 5 footage (.mov) I always compress footage to Pro Res 422 LT but it's taking up A TON of space on all external HD's as well as my startup disk so I was thinking...is it possible to just drop these .mov files into FCP7 so that I don't have to render almost every move I make? Audio is not a huge part of this project. It's a music video with some pausing for audio.
Am I wasting all this time compressing for no reason? If I am, what would be the correct sequence settings for .MOV's shot from an iPhone 5?
Thank you in advance for both your time and response,
Michael

No.

No.
If you want to edit without converting the video first, you need to change editors. iMovie, FCP-X, Adobe Premiere Pro will edit the footage without conversion.

  • What are the best sequence settings for editing a movie made on your iPhone

I have a lot of footage taken on my iPhone 3Gs. I want to make a summer fun movie and compile all the clips together. What are going to be my best sequence settings to make editing of the footage easy and viewable in real time without the need to render. Is this possible?

Open the videos in QT Pro player and export to a codec and frame rate consistent with any easy set up such as NTSC DV and edit that.

  • What are the correct 1080p sequence settings to choose in FCP7?

I'm planning to master a doc-film project in 1080p. The problem is that I don't see a 1080p setting in FCP's sequence settings window. FCP lists HDTV720p and HDTV1080i but no 1080p.
Do I therefore need to select the "Custom" setting? Or should I master in 720p and then upconvert to 1080p?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Message was edited by: Nicholas Natteau1

The sequence setting must match the settings of the footage you shot. If you shot 1080p, then they will be 1080p. But what codec? HDV? AVCHD (that you need to convert to ProRes)? DVCPRO HD?
Look in the EASY SETUPS. That is where you find the settings. Although FCP will adjust them automatically when you add the first clip.

  • FCP7 16:9, Sequence settings, output 4:3?

WHAT am I doing wrong here???
    OS 10.6.8, FCP 7.0.3, iMovie 8.0.6
I have to import the video from my camera into iMovie, (because iMovie sees the video to import, FCP 7 does not), which creates a MPEG 2 video 16:9 (I believe) 720x480 video. If I play it from QT, it is 16:9.
I am banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to get that 16:9 back out of FCP! Every time I export it from FCP, it comes out 640x480 and I have black bars on the top and bottom. I believe everything is set in FCP to 720x480. If I import a 720x480 jpeg in and drop it in the timeline, it is exactly correct. But my video has those black bars on them.
The only thing I can figure is that in QT I can see the info and the video it says is 853x480. This would let me know why I'm getting the black bars, but NOT why I can not export out the 720x480.
I've tried changing the Sequence setting, but to no avail. I'd like to playback in the Sequence window in real time.
    What is the easy fix?
Oh, and since the original video is in "Apple MPEG-2 Camcorder Video" is there a Sequence Compressor setting I would want to use to make it easier to edit?

Make a copy of your sequence by control-clicking on the sequence icon in the browser, and from the drop down menu choose duplicate.
WORKING ON THE COPY YOU JUST MADE:
In your Sequence Settings, you need to check the box for "Anamorphic 16:9".
Then you should be good to go.
You'll notice in your item properties, have a check mark next to Anamorphic, which flags the video to be displayed correctly. By checking the anamorpic box in your sequence settings, you will preserve the correct display of your video through the editing process.
If when you check the anamorphic box the video looks small or distorted, then click anywhere on the timeline, type Command + A to select all you clips on the timeline, then control-click on any one of the selected clips and from the drop down menu choose "Remove Attributes". When the Remove Attributes pane opens, select Basic Motion and Distort (if they are not grayed out) and the click OK.

  • Best sequence settings for editing HD video material from Nikon D3S

    Hello there,
My quesstion is, what are the best settings in FCP for editing material from the Nikon D3S?
At this point I had a sequence (automatically generated from FCP) with settings
    Frame Size: 1440X1080 Aspect Ratio (1440X1080) (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440 X 1080
    Field Dominance Upper (Odd)
    Editing Timebase: 25
    QuickTime Video Settings
    Compressor: HDV 1080i50
Now, when I place a video clip form the D3S into the timeline, in the preview screen it does not fill the frame. I have to grab the corners and pull it to fill the gaps.
I opened the same video clip in QT to check on the inspector and this is what is telling me:
    Apple OpenDML JPEG, 1280 X 720
    FPS: 24
    Normal size: 1280X 720
    Current size: 1280 X 720 (Actual)
What do I need to do, so that the sequence settings are very similar to my AVI files? Or to make the same? I assume that if I pull the corners to fill the frame, I am loosing quality? Is that the case?
Since I need to deliver this today I will continue working on the sequence as with the former settings, but I am wondering that if I have to change the settings, will this affect my already edited material? Do I then need to start a new sequence from scratch?
Sorry, I guess too many questions, but they all lead to the same thing
    Thanks a lot!
    Emil

I have a D3s. I'm using FCP7, it's been awhile since I used version 5 so all I can do is let you know my workflow with ver.7 If you convert to ProRes 422 1080x720 24fps, it works very well, change the audio from 44 to 48kHz and set the frame rate to 24 instead of 23.98
    Here's what I do.
    1. Copy the CF card to the HD of the computer
    2. Open Compressor, in these next steps we'll make a custom Droplet.
    a. In the Settings tab, select Formats > Quick Time > Apple ProRes 422
    b. Drag this to "Drag Settings & Destinations Here" and click it
    c. In the Inspector, select Encoder
    d. Select Video Enabled, then hit Settings. Frame rate 24 > OK
    e. Select Audio Enabled, then hit Settings. Choose 48 kHz
    f. Save As. Name it. It will be in > Settings tab > Custom
    g. Click your new Cutom setting
    h. File > Create Droplet
    i. select your new custom setting
    j. save it to the desktop, leave destination as source.
    3. open the Droplet,
    4. drag all you D3s clips in, change destination to a new folder
Now you have all your original .DVI and the converted ProRes clips
    5. Open FCP, select Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings
    6. in the Sequence Setting tab select Apple ProRes 422 1280x720 48kHz
    7. Clip Duplicate and give it a new name
    8. change the Editing Timebase to 24 > OK
    9. select the summary tab click Create Easy Setup
    10. name it, give it a description > Create
    11. the next time your open FCP use this Easy Setup
    12. your D3s clip should not need rendered now.
    13. When your done editing use Send to Compressor
    14. Vimeo will accept a wide varity of formats
    15. I use Quicktime H.264 with settings set to best
    16. For Blu-ray I use Export to QT Movie and use Sony DVD Architect to author the BD at 35 mbps, but that's another story.

  • FCP sequence settings problem.. plz help?

Hi i'm trying to set up my sequence so i can submit a tv show pilot..
I'm trying to go by the technical requirements butI'm having trouble..
    the Footage is 1920 x 1090
    25 f/s
    compressor: H.264
as for the seqience settings... i entered them as i have to for the show requirements.
but for some reason it looks like this...
how come there are bars on both sides?
    please help

    Banky007 wrote:
how come there are bars on both sides?
Because you have anamorphic checked on your sequence settings. If you have described you source material correctly, you need to un-check anamorphic in your sequence settings. Once you do that, then contol-click on any clips you have on the timeline, and from the drop down menu choose Revmove Attributes. When the Remove Attributes pane opens, check Basic Motion and Distort ( if they are not grayed out) and click OK.
And as Mr. Ross has said, you do not want to be working in H,264 in FCP7. If you need to deliver in H,264, then edit In ProRes and when done, export a Quicktime and convert it in Compressor to H.264.

  • Basic FCP Sequence Settings question for 1080 footage w/ 7D

OK. So maybe it's the fact I've been working for 18 hours straight and my mind is partially play-dough, but I'm thoroughly confused right now by what I think may be the dumbest question ever.
Anyway... here's my problem and my workflow.
    PROBLEM:
Stupid black box above and below my 1080 footage after I export to QT out of FCP (this box never existed in my 720 footage)
    WORKFLOW:
    - I have 1080/30p footage from a Canon 7D and Rebel T2i
    - Converted to Prores 422 in MPEG Streamclip (I can never keep the file system intact to use the FCP EOS plugin. I need to work on that)
    - Imported into FCP7
    1080 SEQUENCE SETTINGS:
    Frame size: 1920x1080 HDTV 1080 (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Compressor: HDV1080p30 (Also tried ProRes)
    Quality: 100 percent
After I export to Quicktime with current settings, the video plays back with a small black bar above and below the footage. Weird. This seems kind of normal to me, except these bars never existed when I edited in 720. Not that it looks bad, I'm just confused why the bars are there when they weren't there in 720.
    720 SEQUENCE SETTINGS:
    Frame size: 1280x720 HDTV 720p (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Field Dominance: None
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Compressor: HDV 720p30
    Quality: 100 percent
When I export this, no black bars above and below.
So why -- If my settings are basically the same except for the 1080/720 substitution -- do I get the above/below black boxes for 1080 and I don't get them for 720?
I don't think I want the box. Don't like the box. The box is bad. I think.
    Thanks.

I'll send my thanks over here, too, Shane. Posting on multiple sites because project is due today.
Hopefully this will be a lesson learned and my sequence settings are point-on from here on out.
If anyone else is reading this and has a similar problem, though, Shane came up with the solution:
"Highlight all the footage you pasted...then right-click and choose REMOVE ATTRIBUTES. Then check BASIC MOTION." After checking basic motion, you also have to check distort.
And if the quicktime inspector doesn't read out 1920x1080, don't worry about it and just trust FCP.
    Thanks for the input, all.

  • Image Sequence Settings in QT Pro - what is the Frame Rate range available?

I am considering purchasing QT Pro for Windows. I wish to make a time lapse movie out of a series of pictures. I would like to know what the range of options is for the "Image Sequence Settings" in File->Open image Sequence... menu. Does is it go well beyond 1 second?
    Thanks!
    Chris

Frames rates are from 10 seconds per frame up to 60 frames per second.
I make many image sequence movies and just start with one frame per second.
I then "add scaled" to a properly timed audio only file. This way you can get nearly any frame rate you could ever need.

  • My 2008 Mac Pro running Lion will not play HDV1080i60 footage in FCP 7. When I open the sequence settings, all HDV codecs are hdv1, hdv2, hdv3, and so forth. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

My 2006 - 2008 Mac Pro running Lion will not play HDV 1080i60 footage in FCP 7. When I open the sequence settings, all HDV codecs are hdv1, hdv2, hdv3, and so forth. However, when I open the project on my other Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and FCP 6, the footage works fine as it does on my newer Imac running Mavericks and FCP 7. I have tried a Quicktime update on the Mac Pro that the footage doesn't work on but it says that I already have the newest version of Quicktime installed. I have also tried reinstalling the Final Cut Pro Studio twice, still no fix. I'm completely out of solutions and need to be able to edit HDV footage on this machine. Any help would be great. Thanks.

there was a recent software update that seemed to screw HDV up.  Do some searching here over the last month or 2 and you'll find a bunch of posts and some possible solutions.
Worst case scenario, do as Shane suggests.  But might I suggest you take a look at the user tips section of the forum.  there are some great tips on how to prevent these sorts of problems by cloning your startup drive, etc.

It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.

  • How do I match a clip to sequence settings and sequence presets?

I'm getting the warning: Attention - This clip does not match this sequence's settings or any or our sequence presets.
I'm trying to figure out how to set things up in Compressor so that my clips do match my sequence settings and presets. The issue seems to be with the audio not matching.

I shot all the footage with a Canon 5D Mark II. I'm using Compressor to convert all my original clips. The only thing I don't seem to be able to match is the Audio. I can't find any way in Compressor to encode clips that have "two outputs" in the Audio column.
The dialogue box for "Sound Settings" in Compressor doesn't offer any sort of options, that I can find anyway, to generate clips with "two outputs."

  • When creating a new project, the step "new sequence settings" doe not appear automatically, what to do?

    Hi there,
I have a question I am doing product videos for a comany they would like me to do this in a format that is 16:9 and in HD. Since they don't know on which channels they want to publish it but it is certain they will publish it on youtube I wanted to do it in the settings HDV and then DVCPROHD 720p24 or even 1080p24. I have bought the license of Premiere online and for some reason I do not have the option in the beginning when I create a new project to change the sequence settings. They do not appear and afterwards I cannot change them. Do you guys have an idea what can be done in order to access this setting before the project ultimately opens?
I'd highly appreciate any kind of help on the matter!

  • How Do I Change My Sequence Settings to Match My Clip

    Hello -
I shot some footage in SD with a frame size of 16:9. When I dragged a clip into my first sequence, FCP asked 'if I wanted the Sequence to assume the properties of the clip?' I hit 'yes' which changed the sequence to match my clip. However, when I created a new sequence(in the same project) and dragged a clip into it, FCP did not prompt me with the option to change the sequence settings. Now, I have a 4:3 sequence with a letterbox 16:9 clip. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks for your help!

  • What Should my sequence settings for H264, 1280x720/30fps be.  Pro Res422?

I have a job coming up and an fully aware of the nightmare of editing H.264.  The footage I've got was shot on a flip camera.  H.264, 1280x720 at 30fps.  The deliverable is DVD.  Am I right in choosing ProRes 422 for the sequence settings?  I notice when comparing the clip in the browser window to the same clip in the viewer window, the clip in the viewer window looks a tad wider.  Is this a pixel aspect thing.
    My sequence settings are as follows;
    Under the General Tab;
    Frame Size: 1280x720
    Aspect ratio: HDTV 720p (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio:  Square  (Anamorphic 16:9 is unchecked0
    Field Dominance: Lower (even)
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    QuickTime Video Settings:
    Compressor: Apple ProRes 422
    Quality: 100
    Audio: 44.1

Shane, thank you for your reply.   I want to be sure I understand you correctly.  Convert the footage before bringing it in to FCP (compressor), or can I just render in the time line as I build the sequence?  I plan on exporting a same as file for use in DVD studio Pro for a deliverable.
