IPhone 5 from CPW LOCKED : HELP?
I purchased an iPhone 5 from Carphone Warehouse on the second day of its release in the UK, as it was advertised as "SIM-free". I thought this meant that the phone was unlocked, because I paid £529 for the 16GB iPhone 5, which is the same price at which Apple sells its iPhone. Subsequent to this, I purchased an Orange 12-month contract for my iPhone, and everything was fine, until I started encountering problems with my Orange SIM card. I decided to purchase a Three SIM to use, at least until the problems with Orange were sorted out. When I inserted it into the phone, however, I was met with absolute horror - my iPhone did not accept this new SIM, saying something along the lines of it needing to be activated by the "original carrier".
Upon further inspection, I discovered Carphone Warehouse had a hidden caveat - SIM-free simply meant it did not come with a SIM when sold. However, it did not mean the phone was unlocked, as it would lock itself to the first UK SIM placed inside it. Furthermore, the phone would cease to function with a non-UK SIM.
This was absolutely ridiculous, and the aforementioned have caused me many problems of late. How should I go about unlocking my phone, so that I will be able to use it with any carriers, as well as outside the UK?
Kind regards.
Carphonewarehouse can't do anything about it. Orange is the carrier that your phone is locked to and they are the only ones that can unlock your phone for you, so you'll have to wait 3 months and then pay them £20 to unlock it for you.
The only thing that you can do is return the phone to Carephonewarehouse for a full refund if you are within the return period? This would also mean that you would have to cancel your contract with Orange, but if you cancel a contract, you end up having to pay because effectively, if you cancel before your 12 months is up, you are buying yourself out of the contract.
Carphonewarehouse can't really do anything to help you in this instance because they can't unlock the phone for you either, only Orange can do that. They have not mis-sold you a phone either because they will say that you purchased the phone SIM free which is not the same as unlocked.
You have 2 choices here:-
1. Keep the phone and keep your contract with Orange and stay with them for the required 3 month period and then pay them £20 to unlock the phone for you and then you can use it however you want.
2. Go back to Carphonwarehouse and if your phone is still within the return period, return it to them for a full refund and cancel your contract with Orange. Then start again and purchase a new and fully unlocked iPhone 5 from Apple directly and away you go.
Of those 2 options though, number 1. would probably be the most sensible now.

Is there a way to disable switching off the iPhone from the lock screen?
The reason i ask this is , if you are able to switch a phone off from a locked screen , it defeats the purpose of using the I cloud to track your stolen phone. Atleast if switching off is passcode protected, then you have time to track the phone, erase content etc till the battery runs out.
No sorry

Can't delete music off iPhone from new computer - help.
I bought a new computer a while ago. Im trying to update my music through my iTunes on my computer - but it won't let me delete anything thats on my iPhone already. I can delete it straight off my phone - but when I plug it in everything syncs back up :s The computer is authorized already with my iTunes account.
I feel really silly but I just figured it out - for anyone possibly having this problem - in the new iTunes you have to go into your device - music and if you scroll allllllll the way to the bottom it says "Manually added songs" and you can delete from there. I kind of miss when you could just right click on them in your Music file and delete it that way. It seems much simpler.

good day actually i purchase second hand iphone from Swiss and we i try to open it in Egypt the phone showing it's locked as it was working in Swiss, so no one will help me like Apple it self just i want to know what is the way to fix this issue please?
You need to find out who the carrier was in Switzerland and see if they will unlock the device. The carrier with the lock is the only one that can authorize the unlock. You may need to check with the original owner and see if they can get it unlocked by the carrier if you do not qualify.

my iphone 4 doesnt show up in itunes. it is also locked on the 'connect to itunes screen' when unplugged from the computer. help me!
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Hey, I've got an iphone from a friend cause it was locked to O2 and she was moving to Spain for 5 years.... How do I change the Apple ID? Appreciate any help! :))
ThankssThank you for responding to my question so promptly! My Apple ID for my iCloud account on my MacBook is the correct (i.e. my @mac.com) email address. Do I need to sign out and then sign back in after I have changed/updated my details on my iPad?
When I look at the 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' details on my iPad under the heading 'Accounts' it first shows my @me.com account and the items under that account are 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Find My iPad' - when I expand the account details it shows that my iCloud Account is actually my @mac.com email adddress.
The second entry is iCloud which is currently my @gmail.com account. Under this account are 'Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Reminders, PhotoStream, Documents & Data, Backup.
The third account is headed Gmail and is, indeed, my @gmail.com account, too. Under this account it shows 'Mail, Calendars, Notes'.
Am I correct in suspecting that the reason for my having multiple occurrences of both events in Calendars and people in Contacts is because more than one account is syncing Contacts and Calendars?
Thank you for your help
Cheers

Hey, i bought an iphone from online shop as a used phone and its locked by orange france, i contact them to unlock it but they refused, they said that we regret to inform you that we'r not able to unlock second hand phones? I need your help please. Its not fair , apple should figure it out
Regards,
OrangeThis is no different with any carrier locked phone. Getting a carrier locked phone officially unlocked is the responsibility of the carrier, not the cell phone manufacturer. A cell phone manufacture cannot unlock a carrier locked phone without the carrier's authorization.
An iPhone sold as officially unlocked when new can be used by others as a second hand phone, and the same with any carrier locked iPhone that can be unlocked by the carrier, and many carriers offer it. -
I bough an iPhone from Internet and after an update it got locked. Please anyone help.
You can either figure out what carrier it's locked to and contact them to see if they offer unlocking, or you can throw it away or sell it and buy an unlocked iPhone from a legitimate source.

I buy lock iphone from bestbuy last 6 months ago. so i still can't unlock it yet.
i buy lock iphone from bestbuy last 6 months ago.i can't used it right now.because it still can't unlock, it yet. i saw from official apple web sit (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC603LL/A?afid=p219|GOUS&cid=AOS-US-KWG) is now selling unlock iphone4. that is why i asking the request to get my phone to unlock. when i buy from bestbuy i have to pay full amount of money.and is without contract. but I have to pay full amount of money. so at least your apple service must do for unlock to iphone4.
First, you're not talking to Apple here -- we're users just like you who try to help others, Apple employees rarely participate.
If you bought an iPhone from Best Buy 6 months ago it was locked to a particular carrier. You cannot unlock such a phone -- the only way to get an unlocked iPhone is to buy an officially unlocked one, but that's not what you have. -
Hello I bought my iPhone from liverpools apple store, I put a giffgaff cArd inside and it locked my phone into 02 network. I contacted o2 as you suggested and they told me that they didn't lock my iPhone. Please find me some help
I guess you mean unlock the device. To lock it would mean to be possible to se it only with one carrier.
So no, unlocking the device must be done by the original carrier, you should contact them to do that. -
Hello everyone, im using iphone 4, my problem is that i cant update my iphone from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 while using software update in settings on my iphone please help......
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported.
Sounds like your iPhone was hacked/modified/jailbroken to work
with wireless carrier other than the one it was purchased from. The
update has relocked it to the original carrier. Contact the original
carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify - only the
carrier to which the iPhone is locked can unlock it.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Be advised that the previous modifications to change from original carrier
to your local Carrier may have rendered the iPhone unable to be
officially unlocked. -
My iPhone 4s is locked in speaker mode where it tells me every time I touch a new app and it outlines the app I touch and requires me to touch the screen twice in order to advance. Please help me remove this setting
Explore Settings > General > Accessibility. Around page 128 of the User Guide is probably appropriate.
The User Guide is available at http://support.apple.com/manuals/ or downloadable from iTunes as an iBook. -
