Iphone 5 goes direct to voicemail

Why does my Iphone 5 goes direct to voicemail?

By sliding your finger from the bottom of the screen up you can change settings. A display panel appears and various options are available (airplane mode, blue tooth, volume, etc)  I occasionally do this inadvertently and quickly slide it down. If you happen to touch the crescent moon symbol in the process you will activate the Do Not Disturb feature. I also did this.  By simply touching it again you can deactivate it. The background behind the crescent moon is white when activated and grey when deactivated.

  • I call my wife's I phone it goes directly to voicemail. I call right back it goes through

I call my wife's cell phone (verizon - Iphone) from my Iphone 5s (AT&T) it goes directly to voicemail. I literally call right back and it rings through. This does not happen to anyone else I call or to anyone else who calls my wife.

This support document should help explain Do Not Disturb. Depending on her settings, yes, the second call within a specified time period will go through.  Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • Incoming calls are going directly to Voicemail, Iphone 5S

I switched phones from an Iphone 4 to this Iphone 5S and my incoming calls are going directly to voice-mail and not ringing the phone. The only app I downloaded that is different from my Iphone 4 is the GroupMe app, but I don't know if that is necessarily the cause. Anyone have a suggestion? thanks

Hi,   I don't know if this info will help many, but for a few it may.  I had this problem over the weekend.  Called Tech Support 2x, they tried everything, resetting,, *73,  *228, *900 , there were no "do not disturb" settings, etc.   They prepared a work ticket for the next level of help.
Meanwhile, I couldn't figure out what changed all of a sudden.  I knew I had no calls coming in after accessing my voicemail.  I looked at my recent calls and noticed i had dialed a *83 prior to the voicemail *86.  Fat thumbs.  I remember years ago, having the features of *83 for do not disturb and *84 to stop the feature.   Just for giggles, i dialed *84, tried from another phone calling my number and WHOOLA, it came thru.
If anyone has these issues, try the *73 first.  But just for the heck of it, do *84 as well.  Takes half a second.   If those dont' work, then call Tech Support.  I wanted to share to help at least some of you as I understand the frustration of not having incoming calls.  I even called Tech Support and shared the info.  As this was not an option given to me from Tech Support,  but then again, i don't believe *83 or *84 is offered anymore.  I just dated myself, but hope it helps others !

  • 4 iphones later and still goes direct to voicemail

    Hi
My iPhone 3G has problem where calls, not all, but suddenly go direct to voicemail. Full signal, and in different locations. I can then not call out - just long silence then beep beep beep. I am on 02. If I restart the phone it often does clear the issue but I only know I am missing calls when someone calls me on my spare phone!
I have now been through 4 iPhones, two sim cards and even closed down the account and started again with new number and it still does it. I have to carry two phones so people can call me - it is ridiculous and 02 can not find any faults.
    Help!!!!

I'd love this lady's name at O2, thanks. I was offered 2 weeks free service by one guy, but I nearly spat in his face...
I'm at a loss of what to do - I love the iPhone and everything else which isn't O2 related (voice calls, SMS, voicemail) seems to work perfectly. It's interesting that you're East London too - can we narrow it down further? I live in Limehouse and work in Shoreditch. It's worst in Shoreditch, but also happens in Limehouse (as it is at the moment).
I do also have the long wait to phone out problem sometimes. I also get dropped calls more than I should. And text messages sometimes take an age to send. But the most annoying thing is the 9 times out of 10 that someone tries to call me that it just goes through to voicemail. This is compounded by the length of time it takes voicemail and SMSs to get delivered to me.
Btw, this is the other, similar thread:

And to answer all the obvious questions people ask:
    • yes, have tried soft reset
    • yes, have tried hard reset
    • yes, have tried reboot (helps initially straight after, but 5 mins later issues return)
    • yes, have tried resetting to factory settings
    • yes, have tried setting it up as a completely new iPhone (using iTunes)
    • yes, have disabled call forwarding (did again seem to work better for a while, but issues return)
    • yes, have replaced iPhone
    • yes, have replaced SIM card
I haven't tried the 3G switch off - but as Stanley says, that renders all the good reasons for having an iPhone almost redundant.
    Very, very annoying.

  • After my last update, my iphone 5 doesn't ring when a call comes in, it goes directly to voicemail

I just installed the latest update to my iPhone 5 and now all my calls go directly to voicemail.  Help needed.

    Hello LoisJane,
It sounds like your phone is sending calls directly to voicemail and will not ring. It seems to me that Do Not Disturb may be enabled. Take a look at this info about how to set that up:
    iOS: Using Do Not Disturb
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5463
You can use the Do Not Disturb setting to silence calls, alerts, and notifications.
To enable, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb. When Do Not Disturb is on, a "moon" icon will appear in the status bar.
To make changes to your Do Not Disturb settings, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • My Apple iphone 4 does not ring it goes directly in voicemail.  How can I change this?

I have a Apple i phone 4, lately when someone calls me the call goes directly into voice mail.  I don't hear the phone ring. How can I change my settings to hear a call, before it goes into  voice mail?  Thank You  Beverly Schroeder

You have not told us which version of iOS you are running.
If your iPhone is reasonably current with its iOS, you can do Settings > Do Not Disturb = "Off"

  • Iphone rings goes straight to voicemail

iphone 5 to iphone 5 - rings goes straight to voicemail. This problem does not appear in our local service area. This issue has happened in AK and now in FL. I don't know if this is a Verizon issue or iphone issue. Also when texting my outgoing message shows in blue box, the receiver receives text in white box and the reverse occurs when responding to text message.

The call problem is a carrier issue.  Contact Verizon.
There is no apparant problem with your iMessages as you describe.  What do you think is wrong?

  • Incoming calls from one contact goes directly to voicemail

We recently updated my mother-in-law's phone and had the contact list transferred at a Verizon store. We later learned that one of her contacts was being sent directly to her voicemail even though her phone was on she wasn't talking to anyone else. We noticed when that contact called, her phone would briefly display her name and then would display the Verizon logo like it had reset. Tech support couldn't help me and tried to forward my support call to someone else, but all the support lines were busy and I got tired of waiting on hold.
The solution we came up with was to delete that contact info and then re-enter it. That solved the problem. Evidently there was some glitch in the data when the contact list was transferred.

Thanks for sharing your solution - it may help someone else! And it looks like it was simple to do, and effective. Have a great week!

  • My iPhone 5 on EE 4G goes straight to voicemail when people call me and I'm connected to LTE?  Is there a solution to this other than turning off 4G?

When I am connected to LTE (EE network) my iphone 5 goes straight to voicemail and I can't receive calls?!  Anyone know a solution to this problem?

    Hi
I have just spoken to EE about this very issue.
Apparently the sim is timing out the call before you even get it and passes it to voicemail.
I was given the following 2 codes by their support to "call" with the phone.
    ##002**89#
    ##002**11#
    Then re-boot the phone.
This effectively turns off the automatic re-route to voicemail but standard voicemail when not reachable still works.
I still need to play with the voicemail settings a bit but it seems to work.
    Second.
I was also getting an issue where I was simply loosing service at random times even though I was not moving.
THIS issue apple is woking on.  The problem is cause when moving between 3G and 4G signals, sometimes the phone just looses the service.
A fix for that (Till apple comes up with one) is to simply go into settings and turn off LTE unless you really need it.

  • Goes directly to voice message

I am using Iphone 4 on AT&T running 4.2.1 firmware (This version was fine until a month ago and I don't want to upgrade for now). 3G is iffy where I live, so I am using edge all the time.
Lately I have been receiving complaints from friends that calls to my phone are going directly to voicemail. I tested and confirmed that one in 4 calls are going to voicemail, no ringing and bars are at 3 or more.
Are any of you guys using  AT&T also seeing this as well and if anyone has found a fix for this. Generally no matter how much flak AT&T draws for their 3G network, their Edge network has been pretty reliable, just want to confirm if its not network before I call apple care. TIA

Updating to the latest vesion of iOS has no bearing on your ability to connect to EDGE or 3G service.
Have you tried the basics of reset, restart, or restore?
Have you tried resetting network settings?  Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Have you tried reseating the SIM card?
If you have another GSM phone, try moving your SIM card to it and see if the problem follows.
Is the issue specifc to one area where you normally are?
You didn't mention where you actually are, network issues are spotty and confined (most of the time) to a specific geographic area.  You might get a better idea of possible network issues by checking out AT&T's forums, specifically the network coverage forum.
Nothing you've mentioned so far indicates a hardware problem or a reason for Apple to do anything beyond the troubleshooting I mentioned above.
You really have to prove that the issue is hardware and not network, which Apple would be happy to help you with.

  • I can call out but all incoming calls are going directly to VM with no signal that I missed a call or have VM. I can send/receive text messages from other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users, I am assuming this is really "iMessage." Is it apple software?

I have spent hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T. I went thought reset, on/off, etc, etc with both companies to no avail. Each company pointed fingers at the other....as being the source of the problem.
Problems: Suddenly ALL  incoming calls were going directly to VM with no signal I missed calls and/or had VM. I was also unable to receive all Text Messages...Oddly, I could send text messages to anyone (even non-apple users but I could not receive their responses)........then I when I got home I started receiving text messages from other apples users ONLY. I assume now - iMessage kicked in and I could text (send/receive)  other iPhone/iPad/iTouch users ONLY. ....yes, I could still (send) text messages to my husband's blackberry (he received my messages fine) but my phone would NOT receive his text respones.
Finally, I googled the problem and found this community where other people have had the exact same problems! One person said he "turned off 3 G" which was the solution for him....so I did the same and VIOLA! My problem  solved! Nevermind the fact that I pay for 3G and cannot use it....so here's my question, if 3G is the problem on my phone is this an APPLE issue or a NETWORK problem? Do I purchase a new phone and slip in my same SIM card and hope the same does not occur or do I get a whole new SIM card and phone? What is the long term resolution to this problem?
I am happy however to find that my problem is NOT an isolated incident and wish Apple or AT&T had told me this is not so uncommon because I thought (based on the baffled response from Apple) that this has never occurred before.  Where is Steve Jobs when we need him?

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.
