IPhone 5 Hold Button Not Working Right Side

Hey guys, my iPhone 5's hold button is non responsive on the middle and right side when I push it in. When I push it in on the left edge of the button it works but otherwise it doesn't. My question is, if I take this into the Apple store, can I get it replaced under warranty, or is it not a serious enough issue?

Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • IPhone Home Button not working after upgrade to ios 5.1.1

    Hey everyone,
    I'm pretty sure this is a software failure due to the symtoms the iPhone is showing;
0 - the home button does not work at all when the phone is turned on and running ios 5.1.1, well it used to work okay when i had ios 5.0.1, I upgraded to 5.1.0 and started working randomly, upgraded to 5.1.1 to see if it was fixed with no luck at all.
1 - When locked the screen does sometime light up, like when you press the home button and don't slide the unlock button. but it does not exit apps anytime, I mean it doesn't act like it's pressing the home button randomly but only when the phone is locked.
2- The button does work perfectly when iOS is not running: I can get in and get out of recovery and dfu mode at will, that wouldn't be possible if the button were broke.
3- what else? Oh yea, not really a symtom: Tried the 'home button calibration' several times.
4 - It's not filthy, since I really cleaned it thoroughly with a powerful tiny nozed air blower I got and gave a rubbing alcohol treatment too.
5 - when I shut the phone down it instantly turns back on, I can interrupt the turning on for turning the phone into dfu mode (i'm sure It's in DFU mode because the tinyumbrella log monitor tells me)
I'm now using the 'soft' home button that goes in the accesibility options, but hey, I didn't pay a ton of money for a phone that the same Apple is gonna break down.
It's out of warranty and I don't have apple stores where I live.
I'd downgrade to 5.0.1 in a snap if I could but I'm not into jailbreaking, so the shsh blob thingie is not a possibility.
Any apple dev around that can give me a workaround?
    thanks a lot in advance
    Added more info ~

I had the same problem with Home button not responding after upgrading from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.1.1 on an iPhone4.   I solved it but not sure exactly what fixed it.   Here is what I did.
    1.  Took it local Apple store Genius appointment.   They used a special tool and took some lint out of the connector opening.   The Home button started working.   They said even though the phone was out of warranty, I could buy a new replacement one without a contract for $150.
    2.   The Home button stopped working when I got home.   I got some compressed air in a can and blew the air through the connector to try and clean out more dust.   I now keep the phone with the connector opening facing down in my pocket.   I also struck the phone downward on my hand or other soft surface to force as much dust out as possible.
    3.  The Home button still was intermittent.  I then tried to do a hard reset by holding the power on key and the Home button simultaneously for about 10 seconds.  This doesn't work if the Home button doesn't respond.
    4.  I connected the iphone to Itunes via the USB to sync the phone.  While connected, I did a Hard Reset by Holding the Power button and Home button simultaneously.  I noticed the Home button responded better when connected to ITUNES via the USB.
    5.  I did a backup of the iphone4 by highlighting the iphone 4 while connected to ITunes and right mouse click and selecting BACKUP.    I was prepared to reset my phone4 in iTUNES and restore it from the backup.
The phone worked consistently before I had to do this.
    6.  As a last resort which I didn't need to do, I was going to copy all my settings for the iphone by selecting the phone in iTUNES and looking at all the sync settings.   I would then have restored the iphone to original factory settings and then sync the phone using the copied settings.  This would have made sure that the backup didn't include the bug.
Fortunately, I didn't have to do step 5 and 6.   Things started working after Step 4.  So I don't really know if it was the iOS 5.1.1 upgrade or pure coincidence that the Home button stopped working immediately after the upgrade.

  • IPhone 5 buttons not working after update

After updating to 7.0.2 yesterday, the home and power button of my iPhone 5 stopped working and they are no more responsive, anyone has an idea? No mean to restore it back to the default settings because iTunes asks me to deactivate the Find my iPhone which I can't access as the buttons are not working.

Me too. All of the sudden I realized the right hand side of the power button stop responding, only the left side works. I may have to restore back to 7.0

  • Iphone menu button  not working takes several clicks to change menu

I can push on off button, and keep pushing menu button  and will finally change, but doesn't just click to change anymore. Just started this today, I just got the phone when verizon came out with it in Feb. so is still new. What can I do?

Just happened or ?  I found this in iphone manual :
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPhone, force quitting an app, or resetting iPhone.
    Restart iPhone:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • I have got a problem!!!!! Hold button not working

My ipod is the ipod phota and my problem is that my hold button seems to have stopped working. It will move side to side but it remains locked no matter which side it is on. It is like it is frozen with it on lock mode so I cant restart it. If any one can help that would be great.

I don't know for sure but it's my impression the Apple iPod's "iHold" switch is not a very robust design and is subject to failure. Apparently shortly after the warranty is over. If yours is still under warranty take it back to iStore, they will probably replace it. My daughters iPods' warranty just ran out... hold switch broke.... oh well, tough luck. The genius at the istore's genius bar (their terms, not mine) said I could probably find someone on line that could fix it.

  • Hold Button Not Working

The hold button on my iPod video recently stopped working for no reason I can see (I've never dropped my iPod or gotten it wet or anything). Essencially, when I switch the hold button on, nothing happens (it certainly does not lock the buttons and the little lock symbol doesn't show up).
Is this something I can have repaired under the warranty? I would like to have the hold button since it helps keep songs fron accidentally playing. I wasn't sure if I sent the iPod in if it's something they could fix or replace or whatever and I couldn't find anything on the site about this so I thought I would try posting here for help.
    Thanks in advance!

It might be, though as you have already tried it is less likely.
The hold switch is largely a mechanical switch and I hoping that maybe he electronic end of the switch might just need restting which could happen during a firmware upgrade (or in your case re-grade).
Nowt to lose...give it a while...else its the repair shop (get an estimate first, a new one maybe cheaper)

  • Ipod hold button not working

I sent my ipod to apple to get the battery replaced.
On receiving the ipod back i realised the hold button did not work and that the ipod was continuosly crashing when on the move and downloading songs from i tunes.
I contacted the support team thinking i could send it back under the 90 day gurantee (because it was apple who sent me the new ipod back), but because i purchased it 2004 they said I had to purchase some apple protection at £39.99, is this true?
Even though it was apple who sent me a brand new ipod back!!

Have you tried resetting or restoring the iPod?

  • Hold button not working (ping: anyone who is familar with the inside)

This is a ping to anyone who knows anything about the interior of an ipod. My hold switch is staying on, and when I flip it off, its still locked. So what has to be connected inside of my ipod in order for this to work?

What switch needs to be connected?
    The hold switch.
You asked about the inner workings of the iPod (for some unknown reason).
“So what has to be connected inside of my ipod in order for this to work?“
What is the hold switch connected to on the inside? Since my hold switch will not go on and off I assume I moved something when I took it apart.
I'll try a reset and restore, but that won't make the hold switch work.
    Because???
Well first of all it won't let me reset it because it won't turn on unless its plugged into the computer. Second I don't think a reset will make the hold button work but I might be wrong.
I never said my ipod was brand new.
So you have the “old” U2 Special Edition, not the new one.
    Correct, the old 20 GB.

  • IPhone 4s buttons not working

    Hi,
My phone is freaking out and neither the home button, nor the power/sleep button is responding!  The phone is 'on' all the time so I've plugged it in to save the battery from draining too fast.
I have looked over various forums and have opened an original iphone app (such as clock) and tried holding the power button down to then hold the home button down to calibrate it but since neither button is working, that method hasn't been effective.
I have blown around the buttons to blow away dirt to no effect.  I don't think I have anything suitable to wipe it down but maybe there's more suggestions?  It does seem a bit strange that both buttons shouldn't respond at exactly the same time for dirt reasons, though.
Most of the remedies I've found require being able to access 'settings' but I can't get out of the apps I'm in to be able to access my settings.  I have ios7 so I can use the touch screen to access the 'control panel?' with the various app shortcuts but that's all.
I'm at a loss so please help me if you can as I use my phone all the time!
    Thanks

Found somewhere that if you press the power button at the same time as the home button, it'll turn the phone off.  I tried it and it worked.  Turned it back on and everything seems to be fine again!  Hopefully it won't happen again but, if it does, this trick should work and I'll start using the 'assistive touch' feature.

  • Why is my iPhone home button not working?

Recent;y my iPhone 4 home button has intermittently stopped going "home" and just stay on the last page selected.  I spoke with an apple customer service person and the said that if the horizontal tray at the bottom of the display could be too full ad that would cause a delay in the home button working. Any suggestions?

If this has anything to do with software, a back up and restore is always the best option to do! First you will want to create a back up via this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414?viewlocale=en_US
After the back up has been created, if you really want to save your information to the computer than here is a whole list of ways to save your info to a computer:
    Section 1:
              -About authorizing and de-authorizing:

Prevent unprompted syncing of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad:

    Section 2:

Transfer purchases from your iPod, iphone, or iPad to an authorized computer:
    Mac- http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2554
    Windows- http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2566?viewlocale=en_US
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer:

               Backing up, updating and restoring:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
After you are comfortable that you saved all of your information, do a system restore back to factory settings! the reason is because if you can prove to apple, that in factory settings that the phone is not operating as expected, so long as your in warranty they will service the product. If you are outside, you should only have to pay either $169 (Canada) $149 (USA) for an iphone 4. It may be a little more expensive for the 4S as it is the newest product. Those same prices apply to a iphone 3G and 3GS

  • IPhone video button not working

It snowed in Houston two days ago and I tried to take a video of it on my IPhone 4. I kept pushing on the video button but nothing worked. I found an IPad discussion that said if you had upgraded to OS7 then you needed to slide up and down. Well that didn't work on my IPhone so I tried side to side-low and behold that worked. Why doesn't Apple tell us these things???

We are just users like you and have no way of knowing why Apple does the things they do.
