Iphone 5 imessage only will send on wifi. Cellular sends as text.

In the past week, my iphone 5 will only send imessages when connected to wifi. When using cellular, all messages are sent as text (green). It is intermittent. Sometime it will work but mostly not. My carrier is Straight talk pre-paid and is run by TracFone Wireless. TWF. I have power cycled. My software is up to date for phone and carrier. Any thoughts? Many thanks.

Contact your carrier.

Both the iPad Air and iPhone 5C use a nano-SIM. Physically, they will work, but your operator may have some restriction. You should check with them.

  • Issues with iMessage when switching data carrier (wifi - cellular)

So I have had this issue with my 5S and now my 6+ in iMessage. Not *always* but often enough I've run into issues sending messages via iMessage when I associate with wifi in that they don't send. I'll get an error message saying "not delivered" and it will stack as many outgoing messages I try to send. However, if I force the first message to send as text, subsequent messages will go through afterwards without issue. If I go from wifi to cellular I have no issues whatsoever and when I have these issues on wifi, my data works fine (incoming emails, Facebook notifications, etc.). I used to run cellular data only because I had unlimited but now I have a cap so I intend on using wifi when possible...but to have to send my first message as a text just so I can use iMessage is annoying...

    Hi there BigDogg795,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps for iMessage found in the article below.
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.

  • Iphone 3G only uses 3G if WiFi is turned off even if there is no WiFi

    Hi,
Whenever I have WiFi turned on in my iphone 3G, if there are no WiFi networks available and I try to do anything over the Internet, it just gives an error that there is no Internet connection instead of just using the 3G connection. The only way I can force it to use the 3G connection is to go into settings and turn off WiFi. Did they make it this way on purpose? Is there a way to get it to use 3G if there's no WiFi connection without having to manually switch it off everytime I'm not at home or in the office and have access to WiFi?
    thanks,
    kris

The switch from an available wi-fi network to AT&T's cellular network and back again has always been automatic and seamless with nothing special required - as the iPhone is designed to do.
If the standard troubleshooting steps do not resolve this, which in order are power your iPhone off and on, reset, restore with iTunes, the next step (assuming you are in the U.S.) is calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • IPhone + Exchange only shows email addy as the sender, not my name

When sending an email from my iPhone, my email address shows (e.g. [email protected]) as the sender instead of my name (e.g. John Doe). This might be an issue with Apple's Exchange setup in iPhone OS 3.x but wondering if this might be an issue with Kerio.
With IMAP only accounts such as MobileMe and Gmail on the iPhone, there is a field to enter the sender's name (e.g. John Doe) in the setup. There is no such field when setting up an Exchange account on the iPhone with 3.x software. So, when I check my sent email, I do not see my name in the 'From' field; only my email address (e.g. [email protected]).
    Any ideas? Thanks, in advance.

This might work.  I had the same problem in Mail on my iMac.
FIrst, login to www.icloud.com.  If your name is right on iCloud, open Mail in the iCloud window and click on the gear icon (prefeences)  You can fix your name there.  On the iMac, I had to wait a few minutes, quit and restart Mail, and check preferences.  Then on starting a new message, there was a pulldown under "From", that I used to select the one with my correct name and correct email address.  I just deleted that blank email, and others since then default to the correct name.
Don't know if this will work for mail sent from the iPhone, but once the Cloud Mail is corrected, hopefully it will do the trick.

  • My iMessage will not use wifi to send messages unless the phone is on Airplane mode

I cannot send or receive texts at home because there is insufficient service at my house so I use iMessage over wifi. The issue is that when I am on wifi and out of service the phone will not send iMessages or texts over wifi unless the phone is in Airplane mode. Does anyone know how to make wifi the default iMessage so that I can send iMessages over wifi without going to Airplane mode? It tries to send them but it acts as if there is no service when I have full wifi and as soon as I switch to Airplane mode and keep wifi connected, all messages send fine.

Do the basic troubleshooting steps, as needed, described in the User Guide, Appemdix B: restart, reset, restore using a backup, restore as new.

  • HT3529 Can i set my phone to use imessage only when connected to wifi?

I just got a new iPhone and i like how i can use imessage to text my friends because i don't get much service at my house but i have wifi. However, when i'm out i'd like to send normal texts without imessage so it doesn't use my data. Is there a way to set my phone to only use imessage when connected to wifi? I know i can manually turn off imessage but i would rather not have to turn it off every time whenever i am out.

    No.
Text only uses very little data - miniscule, and MMS with the iPhone uses cellular data.

  • TS1398 my Iphone 4 S will not accept Wifi Passwords - for some Wifi locations

@ some locations my Iphone 4 S would not accept the Wifi Password  , gives me a error " incorrect Password "  - any suggestiions ? It connects with my Home linksys  moderm .

Only the wireless carrier to which the iPhone is locked can
unlock it. If the iPhone is locked to Orange, you have to
work with Orange to get it unlocked. Perhaps someone
more familiar with UK wireless providers will jump in as
to the 30 day period, but generally the wireless provider
sets the unlock requirements. It sounds like Orange is trying
to discourage unlocking or at least make it inconvenient.

  • How can I select which iPhone my mac will select to place cellular calls?

    Hi,
I have two iPhones connected to my Apple ID with lines from two countries as I travel often. When I receive calls on any of those, I can pick up the call from my mac. But when I want to make a call from the address book on the mac for example, then the call goes through the line that was selected by FaceTime on my Mac. It does not seem to matter which phone is on, on, the other or both, or which physical iPhone I use: what seems to matter is the simcard, i.e. the calls always go through the same number. I would need to be able to select which line I use depending on where I am. I tried signing off FaceTime on both phones and mac to no avail. When I turn them back on, in whichever order, FaceTime always picks the same one (and shows this as the Caller ID that will be displayed in the Mac FaceTime preferences...
Ideally, I should be able to select the line in the same way I can select which caller ID I want to start conversations in FaceTime or iMessage but thus does not seem to be implemented. yet?

Have you tried changing the caller id on FaceTime on your Mac to see if it picks the other phone?  Seems to me that what you'll have to do is change the caller id each time you want to make a call from each phone.

  • HT1695 New iPhone 5 -only able to get wifi when sitting next to router. My old 3GS with iOS 5.1 works fine all over house.  Any ideas on how I can get my new iPhone 5 to work as well as old 3GS?

I just got my new iPhone 5 yesterday.   I'm having difficulty maintaining a wifi connection. I can get reception when I'm sitting next to router but I get a short distance away and I get the message 'unable to connect to network'.   My old iPhone 3GS works fine at same places where new iPhone 5 won't connect.  I still am using ios 5.1  on 3GS.  I've turned off my old phone to make sure it isn't causing some type of interference and also switched off the cellular network to try to force it into wifi mode but without any success. I don't think it's my router since my old 3GS is working fine. Anybody have any further thoughts?  Thanks

There are some low-profile slots though 1 of them are occupied by the firewire card: 1 low-profile PCI, 2 low-profile PCI Express x16, 1 low-profile PCI Express x1
We actually purchased 13 of these computers for video editing, so I really hope it is possible to fix this without buying 13 low-profile graphics adapters. What gets to me is the fact that it does work when I disable the driver. (!) Shold therefore be doable to make a driver/update that works :-(
Any ideas? Or, in worst case, anyone know about a low-profile graphics card that works?
    Thanks,
    Steffen

  • Iphone 3G only will only flash the Apple logo and do nothing else. HELP

My phone started acting up yesterday and then it started only showing the apple logo. It flashes off and on. I plugged it in the computer and it stopped when plugged in. I then downloaded the new software and it still does the same thing. Any help or information you can give will be greatly appreciated. I bought the phone overseas so I doubt I can get official support here in the USA. I just moved back to the USA from Singapore.

See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

Try double-clicking your home button, and scrolling all the way to the left of the little bar that pops up at the bottom.  You should see iPod controls and an icon with a padlock in an arrow pointing in a circle.  Tap that to unlock the padlock.  Click your home button and try again.

Yes I have turned imessage off a number of times and that does not seem to he doing the trick, and it is not delivering them then I have to press on the photo and either chose try again or send as text message, I have had the setting on to not allow sending pictures as texts (so they can only send as imessage) since I got my phone in January and it has always worked until now, I have turned that off to allow me to send them as picture messages now but it's still not working over iMessage, I have also tried it using 3G and not wifi
