IPhone 5 incoming calls go straight to voicemail in certain areas

I know that this issue has been reported by many users in this and other forums, but I thought I would share my story too.
I have a iphone 5 that is exhibiting the following issues:
- When I am downtown Boston and certain areas in MA, incoming calls go straight to voicemail.  The phone does not ring and the only way to tell if people called me is if they leave a voicemail
- When I make calls, my phone numbers shows as blocked at the receiving end.  So if people block anonymous calls then  I won't be able to call them
I opened a ticket with VZW and this is what has been done so far to no avail:
- Got a replacement phone
- Changed the SIM card
- Verizon Re-provisionned the phone number
- Disabled LTE
- Reset Network Settings
- Power cycle the phone (many many times)
Verizon said my issue is due to network extenders in the area.  Well, if this is true then thousands of VZW customers would have this issue as network extenders are all over the place in Boston. So far VZW does not have a solution to my problem.
My next step is to reactivate my old iPhone 4S to see if it is a iPhone5 issue or something else.  will keep you posted.

If they say they did, ask them to re-provision the account. Sometimes errors occur and the account is not provisioned correctly, even though features are included in your plan according to the billing system.

  • Help please...iphone5 when trying to make a call, after hitting green button to make call, screen goes straight back to keypad and all incoming calls go straight to voicemail, any ideas please? Everything else seems ok. No problem with sim or carrier

Hi...I have just obtained a secondhand iphone 5.  I'm not technically minded  and I don't understand 'geek speak' so please be gentle.  I have done all I can think of to bottom this problem. I have switched on and off.  Tried different o2 sims (including 2 brand new) that I know are fine, restored to factory settings, changed carrier from 'Auto' to O2 and spent ages on line with o2 chat but everything at their end is absolutely fine. Everything on the phone seems to be working apart from the phone aspect of things. All incoming calls go straight to voicemail and show on the phone as 'Cancelled calls' and when dialling out,  I can key in the numbers and get the keypad tone (not dialling tone) but as soon as I press the green key to make the call, all that happens is the keypad pops back up onto the screen. The phone was bought on ebay as an o2 phone (the photo showed Giffgaff on the phone's screen but I understand this to be one and the same?) and as being 6 months old but I have put the serial number into the support website and...surprise surprise..,it must be at least twice that age as the warranty has expired.  I have made 2 attempts to have a web chat with Apple Support,  have reached the 'You're all set, we'll be with you in 2 mins'  and have been left hanging there for over an hour on each occasion,  so I've given that up as a bad job!!  Any help will be much appreciated...and also, will Apple charge me £25 for each of the aborted chat attempts, please?  Over to you...hopefully and many thanks in anticipation.

My phone works all fine when am in mumbai but as soon s i leave mumbai I am not able to make an otgoing call
This is entirely a carrier issue.  If your carrier (airtel) doesn't provide service outside of Mumbia, this has nothing to do with your iPhone.
i feel i need to change my brand

  • I can't receive phone calls on my landline. Calls go straight to voicemail.

My telephone service is with Verizon. I also have internet FIOS with Verizon.
The calls I receive go straight to verizon voicemail. Others have called me and their calls went straight to voicemail. When I call my landline using Skype, the call goes to voicemail. Sometimes I will have a very short ring.
I called tech support I have not yet heard back from them.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey, I'm having the same problem.  Getting through to tech support is an adventure, and then jumping through all the hoops for checking to see if there's a problem with your phone or the service within your house is great fun.  Right now tech support is routing all the calls to our cell phone until they can get out to check the lines..9 days from now is the earliest they can get out-ridiculous!  Since we don't have a cell phone plan we are paying by the minute for these calls.
I'll post if we resolve this problem.  I wonder if it has to do with the fios upgrade that they are doing in the area, we haven't gotten it here yet.

  • My 4s call go straight to voicemail

Why does my calls to straight to voicemail?

Do you mean when you are trying to call someone else? Or do you mean when someone tries to call you?
In the former case, that's because their phone is off and or/ they don't want to talk to you.
In the latter case, you either have Do Not Disturb turned on, your phone is powered off, you are outside of your carriers coverage area, or there is a problem with your carrier or account.

Sounds like you have a call divert setup. Give your carrier a call and should be able to check and advise how to setup the correct diverts.

  • Incoming Calls Sent Straight to Voice Mail

This problem seems to be linked to screen blanking. If I allow the screen to go dark by itself (after the preset number of seconds--30, in my case), all incoming phone calls will be sent direct to voice mail without ringing. I get a notice, then, if they leave a voice mail...but of course they have already hung up and I can't answer the call. People who don't leave a voice mail, I never know that they have called.
If I shut down the screen manually, phone calls ring as usual and I can anwer them. I have been to two different Verizon stores to have this checked out. They have removed the battery and reinstalled it, and also have reprogrammed a couple of times. They've also checked bunches of settings to be sure I haven't accidentally pressed a wrong button somewhere. Still, this happens. If I do not manually shut down the screen, I lose my incoming calls.
Any ideas? I love my phone and would hate to return it, but that may be my only option. I shouldn't have to manually shut off my screen after every operation in order to receive calls.

If you have been to two different Verizon Wireless stores and your phone's concerns have not been resolved after our representatives did some troubleshooting steps, you may need to consider a phone replacement. Keep in mind that your phone includes a manufacturer’s warranty that will provide a Certified Like New Replacement phone identical to your current device. • IPhone incoming call started studio monitor, but no image

I placed my iPhone about 6" in front of my 15" apple studio monitor. When the phone rang, it activated the power switch on the face of the monitor. The computer started up as if I had touched the power switch, but the screen was black. The cpu powered up, but there is no image on the screen whatsoever. Power button light on the face of the monitor does not flash, it stays lit. If I touch the power button, then the lamp flashes and I can hear the cpu go to sleep. If I touch it again, the cpu comes back to life, the lamp stops flashing, but there is still no image displayed. The machine will not turn off unless I unplug it. Nothing changes after replugging the chord. Touching the power switch restarts the machine, but monitor is still blank. I have no way to try to adjust settings to fix what ever may have been inadvertently changed by the iPhone signal. Anyone have any suggestions???

Check the mute switch near the external volume controls. If orange is showing it is muted.

  • Calls going straight to voicemail

Anybody else having a problem today with calls going directly into VM? Both my phone and the wife's phone have been acting up. No ring, no vibrate, but suddenly a missed call and a VM. AT&T network problem? (I'm in West Los Angeles.)

You are not alone, I can assure you! I have been having the exact same problem for over a month since exchanging my original phone for a refurb thru warranty and upgrading to the 2.01 then 2.02 and now 2.1 sotware. What I do know about this prob is that it is NOT an AT&T or network issue bcuz A) I work for AT&T and have already talked to our net svcs dept on several occassions and B) I put my SIM card back into my old Razor to test 3 diff times and it works flawlessly right off the bat every single time. So then I thought for sure I just had a lemon with that refurb exchange so I exchanged it once again (and tested test issue on both phones with NONE of my personal data sync'd) and I am STILL having the exact same issue with the 2nd replacement phone from apple.
Ps: text messages are even more unreliable and appear anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours or even days later!!! I cannot imagine this being anything other than a coding issue that has yet to be address with this clusterbomb of an update they call 2.0.

  • Just Updated iPhone 3GS to iOS5, Can't receive any incoming calls at all

Hi, I just updated my phone to iOS5 and now, I'm having these troubles.
    - Can't receive any incoming calls at all
    - The incoming calls directly goes to voice mail greeting
    - No incoming rings & no missed calls alerts
    - Also noticed the incoming text with 4 to 5 hours delays
    - Sometimes 3G network get lost
The reception (status bar) is good level, can make outgoing calls okay and can send text okay.
I did try reset the network setting and it seems working a few hours then went back to troubles (mentioned above).
I've done 3 or 4 times reset but none have been resolved yet.
    Anyone having a same issues?
    I have
    iPhone 3GS with iOS5
    Network with O2 UK
    Thanks,

After reset "All network settings" a several times, it seems working but few hours later it 's been gone back to troubles again.
Is this related to iOS5 or O2?
I've contacted the network carrier several times but no-one yet get back to me.
    Any ideas, please helps.

  • Curve 9360 not ringing with incoming calls

Good day. I am using a Blackberry Curve 9360 Smartphone.
Hope you can help me, I have inadvertently ticked the "All Alerts Off" option instead of the "Silent" option.
The phone rejects my attemps to change it back to All Alerts on, with a reply "Alerts  Off cannot be editted or deleted"
There's a red tick mark next to the icon, and the icon is also highlighted in red.
The "Normal" option is ticked at the moment but the "All Alerts Off" option remains the same.
Incoming calls go straight to voicemail without a ringing alert, and a sms informs me of a missed call.
Please advise me how to resolve this problem, URGENTLY !!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
That is strange indeed...typically, only one profile at a time can actually be active...from what you describe, both Normal and All Alerts Off are active at the same time...not normal. Lets try this...
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Now try to reset your sound profile as you desire.
    Best!

  • Iphone rings goes straight to voicemail

iphone 5 to iphone 5 - rings goes straight to voicemail. This problem does not appear in our local service area. This issue has happened in AK and now in FL. I don't know if this is a Verizon issue or iphone issue. Also when texting my outgoing message shows in blue box, the receiver receives text in white box and the reverse occurs when responding to text message.

The call problem is a carrier issue.  Contact Verizon.
There is no apparant problem with your iMessages as you describe.  What do you think is wrong?
