IPhone 5 / iOS 6.0.1 - no internet access over Wi-Fi (at work)

Hello,
we have a customer whose employees have upgraded about 80-90 iPhone 3GS/4/4S to iPhone 5 (or, mostly 5s, some have upgraded their 3GS to 4S).
Among all these phones running iOS 6.0.1, so far 3 users are reporting problems connecting to the internet over the company Wi-Fi network.
There's no problem at all connecting to the Wi-Fi network and they all have good signal strength, they get an IP from the DHCP server on the company LAN, and they can even connect to a local web server on that same subnet.
It is impossible to connect to any service outside the company LAN, even knowing the IP of a web server on the internet, thus excluding DNS problems.
Users have found their own way around this problem by restarting their iPhones, which solves the problem for the rest of the day (at work), and also just turning off Wi-Fi, using cellular data, helps them through the day...
After a restart, they can leave the company network during lunch hour, using cell data, and when returning to the company Wi-Fi it still works fine.
But the next day when these users come back to work, after having been connected to their home Wi-Fi network, the problem returns. No route to internet. A restart of the phone or  resetting the phone's network settings resolves the issue until the next day.
I bought a system status app which shows me the iPhone's routing table and its connections, and when the phone is having these problems, the routing table shows that the primary default network interface is en0, and the primary default gateway is the company network's router.
At least one of these 3 users has a 5th generation Apple Airport Extreme at home, using its default wireless settings.
The company's using only Apple Airport basestations for their Wi-Fi network, WPA2, 2,4 and 5GHz.
I might add:
- no other phones/devices are having issues with this company's Wi-Fi network.
- this issue may apply to either iPhone 5 or iOS 6.0.1, and may be present even on  4S phones, but the users haven't yet reported it
Anyone else having this issue? Any clues except waiting for iOS 6.0.2?

Here's what ahs wored for me int he past:
1) Turn the Phone off, then back on
if not that, then 2) Hard reset the phone (Hold power and home for 5 seconds)
if not that, then 3) turn the phone off, then use a cotton swab with some alcohol to clean out the dock connector or the headphone jack
if not that, then 4) Play a song. With no sound coming out, reconnect it to a speaker dock, then disconnect it again. Sometimes the last time it disconnected didn't register.
if not that, then 5) Rapidly plug and unplug the headphones about 5 times - this may unstick the headphone jack
if not that, then 6) If you get sound through headphones, plug in headphones. Start a song. Unplug the headphones
Hopefully one of those works

    Hello there stidhambr15,
I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.

Might even be a good idea to turn off the phone, reseat the SIM card, and turn it back on.

  • Should my iPhone 1 (iOS 3.1.3) with Bluetooth 2.0 (Handset HSP?) work with wireless earbuds with BT 4.0 and the Headset (and Handsfree, A2DP, AVRCP) protocol? They pair and connect; status bar looks good. But audio always comes out the speaker. Thx.

Should my iPhone 1 (iOS 3.1.3) with Bluetooth 2.0 (Handset HSP?) work with wireless earbuds with BT 4.0 and the Headset (and Handsfree, A2DP, AVRCP) protocol? They pair and connect as expected (with a PIN); status bar looks good and shows Bluetooth active, and I even see the iPhone displays the battery levels of the wireless earbuds. But audio always comes out the speaker. (If I plug in wired headphones into the headphone jack then audio comes into the wired headphones, as expected.) I have rebooted the iPhone; I have had it forget about the wireless earbuds, and repaired and reconnected; I have reset all network settings. Thx in advance.
PS: I understand that more recent versions of iOS have a way to choose where audio output goes (speaker, headphone jack, Bluetooth device). Does this older version of iOS? I could not find an option or setting.

I've noticed this lately as well, with my iPhone 4. I couldn't confidently pin it directly on any particular iOS update, but my iPhone used to automatically connect up via Bluetooth with my Prius's handsfree feature, and now it doesn't. I work with a CE-based device at my job, with Bluetooth capability, and I used to test out that feature by having it discover my iPhone. This no longer works either.
What I have found (not really a solution, but it does work and may be a clue for Apple) is that if I simply go to the Settings app then the General -> Bluetooth screen and let it sit there, it will pair right up with my car within a few seconds. Bluetooth is always on, and always says "Now Discoverable" at the bottom of the settings screen.

  • Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. Please help!

Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

It's not a router problem as I explained in my post. If it was a router problem then I wouldn't have the problem everywhere I go. It is an issue with the software.
Then I guess the millions of people running 10.5.7 with no issues are just hallucinating that their machines are working fine?
I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

  • Slow internet access over 3G

Since 5/31/12, my internet access over 3G has been super duper slow.
I can see that a request is going out from the phone, but the phone just sits there saying 'requesting'  this is happening with any site I visit.  Anyone else seeing this behavior?  I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.  I've been seeing this problem in the South Bay and North Bay.

I have experienced very to to connect for about a week. Contacted support by email yesterday and got this response this morning. Surprisingly, it was better today.
"There are different factors that affect the speed of your service which
include both the phone itself and the network signal you are receiving. We
certainly are not intentional causing any slowness of service to get customers

  • AirDrop between iPhone 5 iOS 8.1.2 and iMac Yosemite 10.10.1 only working if both have Everyone for AirDrop discovery

AirDrop between iPhone 5 iOS 8.1.2 and iMac 5k Retina Yosemite 10.10.1 is only working if both have Everyone selected in AirDrop discovery options. If the option is set to Contacts Only in one of them then neither device can see the other.
Is there a way to limit AirDrop to contacts only and allow both devices to see each other?
Both are setup with the same iCloud Drive account. I use the iMac to sync iTunes for this phone so the phone does trust this iMac.
    Thanks,
    Vladimir.

I am still having the same issue. I have tried Apple Support AGAIN. Still no resolution.
I cannot use my calendar on my Macbook Air OR my iPhone at all.
iCal just crashes!!! I have tried contacting Google, but they have not responded AT ALL.
Not very happy. Apple have at least spent time trying to sort this. Anyone got any answers?

  • I have upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5.1 and now cannot access the camera from a locked screen.  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 and now cannot access the camera from a locked screen.  Anyone have any suggestions?

From the lock screen, to access the camera you touch the camera icon and slide in an upward motion. It no longer takes a tap to get it to open.

  • IPad and PPTP VPN - Internet access (e-mail & Safari) not working

    Hi there!
I've got an iPad2 (WiFi only) and need to configure it to use Witopia PPTP VPN, which is the VPN provider I've been using for a long time on my desktop and netbook.
Configure the iPad was an easy task, and I was able to successfuly authenticate and establish a PPTP session with any of the Witopia servers.
The problem is that once established the PPTP session, if the "send all traffic" option is ON, I have no Internet access at all (no e-mail neither browsing with Safari). Then, if I stop VPN, turn OFF the "send all traffic" option in the iPad, and start VPN again, I have Internet communication back and everything starts working fine. I've been fiddling with this in my home network (D-Link Dir-655 router using the IP 192.168.0.1 addressing scheme for my LAN).
Obviously, I decided to leave the "send all traffic" option OFF, but then I discovered that doing this my Safari traffic is not encrypted and my IP is not masked, i.e. the VPN is up and running, I have normal Internet traffic, but the service to be provided by the VPN for some inknown reason is not happening.
Does anyone have a clue about what's going on ?
    TIA
    RTadeu

  • IPhone lost in Calcutta cab with no internet access

So I dropped my iPhone 4s in a cab last night in Calcutta and I would love to get it back, but I doubt that is possible. If there are any tips on that, I will try anything. But what is probably of top priority to me is erasing the data, pics, passwords, etc. on the phone.
I am an American, but am living in a north Indian city for about a year doing research. My phone was unlocked and it has an Indian SIM. I am visiting a friend of mine in Calcutta, and unfortunately, due to different roaming restrictions, my phone was never able to access the internet here. And consequently, the Find my iPhone app is not usable. I do have a passcode on the phone though.
We have been calling the number for a while, and now the battery has likely died or the phone has gone out of service range because the call goes to the equivalent of voicemail ("the number you are dialing has been shut off").
Is there anything I can do to retrieve my phone? Or if not, is there a way to erase the data on it?
Because it is unlocked, is it possible that someone can just remove the SIM and put in a new one or because of the passcode would this not work?
Any help would be really appreciated!

No this is not going to make any difference.
You don't need any internet connection at all for working with OEM GC.
Maybe, if you want to configure the Patch Setup to receive Patch Adviories from My Oracle Support, but even then you can do without a connection from you server(s) to the internet.
Asuming that you are using OEM GC 10.2.0.5, you will also be needing the installation of Flash Player and Adobe SVG Plugin, both to be installed in your browser.
    Kind regards
    Rob

  • My iPhone 5 won't connect to the Internet.

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 5, and I had my regular-sized SIM cut to fit the iPhone 5, since the nano SIM is not available yet in my country (Venezuela). The SIM works, I get messages, calls, etc. But it won't connect to the internet unless I'm on wi-fi. I've tried in different places, with full 3G signal, but it doesn't work. The weird thing about this is that I get Whatsapp messages (and I can send them as well), I get notifications from Instagram and Twitter, but it won't let me, say, enter my Twitter profile, or load Instagram pictures. It won't load any kind of internet content, neither with Safari nor Chrome.
The phone (or rather iOS 6) doesn't seem to have any option to edit the APN, so I researched a bit and found the iPhone Configuration Utility. I used it a couple of months before with an iPhone 3G to set an APN and it worked. Only this time, it wouldn't let me create and install a new profile on the iPhone 5. It would let me install the old profile I had for the Iphone 3G, which had the same APN settings I was trying to use now (both from the same carrier) but it didn't fix the internet issue. I also tried the Unlockit method, but it didn't work either.
What bothers me is that I've seen in a few websites screencaps of the Mobile Data screen, and it shows an option to configurate the APN settings in the phone itself, but mine's missing it.
I'd really appreciate if you could help me out, or at least give me a hint of what could be causing this. I've tried almost everything, and I've read a lot of posts here, but I haven't found anything useful. Thanks in advance.

In addition to what ChrisJ4203 said about cellular data, check your carriers website, it may need you to enter APN settings to allow internet access over cellular.
Also does normal telephone calling & SMS work? Disable wifi to avoid using iMessage as a test. If the SIM is damaged or blocked etc it may not work with cellular data, does the phone give you any error messages when powering on?
Another thing to try is to back up to iTunes & check for updates to iOS - sometimes a carrier update can restore the cellular network settings.

  • IPhone 4 ios 7 unable to use control panel

Hi I am using iphone 4 and was updated to ios 7 yesterday
I have tried all the possible ways to slide up from the bottom of the screen (outside and inside the screen)
But still nothing happens at all
Now I couldn't lock the screen rotation or do whatever everyone else is doing to the new ios 7
Because I cant even get to the control panel at all and I couldn't find any useful things to help with it in the general option
Please if anyone can help me with it
Ios 7 has bought me to ****!!!

    Hi,
do you have an "Control Center" option in your settings app?
    I've an iPhone 4 (iOS 7.0.2), too.
For me (almost) everything is working fine, so no general bug at this point.

  • Help needed with internet access

I have just aquired a 5800 and I (think) I have turned of the 3G so it will only connect via my home WiFi unless it asks me.  However, when I do connect I get a tiny little symbol which looks like 3.5g and the book says it is something to do with "HSDPA".   It tells you that a line under it means "supported and active" and that a line through it means "a connection is on hold" but doesn't tell you what if there are no lines, just the symbol and what the flaming hell that means anyway.
My question is - when this is showing, am I doing something that I am being charged for ?   On this phone I do not want to do anything chargeable without first being asked, so if anyone understands this minefield of information I would be eternally grateful for your assistance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can't normally switch off internet access via the network through settings, usually you get the following network options:
GSM only (which could could connect to the internet via GPRS)
    UMTS only (this is 3G)
Dual mode (which selects 3G if the service is available in the area, otherwise defaults to GSM)
Your phone will always show the GSM or 3G signals if it is in range of such services, this does not mean that you are conencted to the internet by them. If you are connected via WLAN, you will not be charged for internet access over the internet.
One thing to be careful of is that if you leave the range of your WLAN router, the phone can automatically go for the next access available point in the "Destinations" setting, which could be your network. As long as you are in range of the router and it is working fine, you should have no worries.

  • I have an IPhone 4,with IOS 4.2.6. I just got an iPad which has an IOS 5.1.1. I want to update my IOS on the phone but the computer I use no longer has Internet access. How can I update my phone? Also, what iTunes version should I have for the updated IOS

I have an iPhone 4 with IOS 4.2.6. I recently received an iPad with IOS5.1.1. I want to update my IOS on my phone but the computer I use is no longer hooked up to the Internet. What do I need to do? Also, does my iTunes need to be updated? It is whatever was available last July. Thank you for your time and courtesy!

To update your phone requires using the latest version of iTunes, on your computer, as well as Internet access. The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so you not only have to make sure all of the content, currently on your phone, is on your computer and accessible, you need to update iTunes first, have Internet access, then update your phone. There is no way around this fact. You could go to an Apple store or use another computer, but you run the risk of losing all of your data it you do that.

  • Since upgrading Iphone to iOS 5.1.1 it does not automatically use wifi internet when wifi is available. It has been draining my mobile data. I can only manually change settings with cellular data everytime I get home. Any other solutions?

Since upgrading Iphone to iOS 5.1.1 it does not automatically divert to my wi-fi internet when wifi is available in my home. It has been draining my mobile data I  now have very high bills from my mobile carrier for high data usage. I can only manually change settings in the Network and turn cellular data on and off everytime I get home and leave the home. This is very frustrating as it wasn't a  problem until the upgrade. I have spoken to a few people that this has happened to. Has anyone found this problem and does anyone have other solutions?

Please disregard this question. I'll submit a shorter and more direct question. Thanks.
