IPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4, Battery Dies without warning at 20-30% Remaining

Hello all, I found some discussion on this on other forum sites and tried finding this question on this Apple forums site but could not.
My wife's iPhone 5 which has iOS 7.0.4 installed on it has had this issue for weeks where the phone will shutoff, as if the battery died. However when plugging the phone in, it turns back on immediately and the battery indicator shows that the battery is up at anywhere from 20-30% capacity.
I tried restoring the phone, then pulling from a backup that I had made but all of the forums suggest restoring the phone as a new phone.
Anyone else having this issue?
Please link to other discussions on this site that I have missed.

Sorry all, finally saw an article covering this issue in -> "More Like This"
Why I didn't see this when searching the forums and trying to Google it.....
Un marked this as a question.

  • Macbook Battery dies without warning (indicator says life left)

Ever since upgrading to Leopard my macbook battery dies without warning. The whole computer goes dead and I have to plug it in and restart. Obviously bad for the computer. Really annoying.
    How do I fix this?
also... I can't use Software update anymore for some reason because it says I'm not connected to the internet--even though I obviously am.

Check and see if you have battery update 1.3 installed. You should find it at the location listed. Right click on the bundle and check *Get Info* a window will open and you can check the version there.
    MacBook/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/BatteryUpdater.bundle
Leopard(10.5.1) and Tiger(10.4.11) installs it. It is the MacBook Pro update.
If it is 1.3 drag it to the trash and then reboot. After you reboot you will be able to empty the trash. Once you have done that run software update and it should install Battery Update 1.2. You could also download from here. Apple: Battery Update 1.2
You should reset the SMC (System Management Controller) after doing this.

  • IPhone 5s IOS 8.1.1 battery drain using mail

Problem: battery drain is unacceptably high with -1% per five minutes
Description: after upgrading from IOS 7 to 8 the battery drain on my iPhone 5s (32GB) has hugely increased. Several tips on the internet have been tried from turning off several services to reinstalling the IOS none with no improvement. After reinstallation the drain was acceptable only to result in again a -1% drain per five minutes after a week.
Expected: using IOS 7 I could easily use the iPhone throughout the whole day with -1% per fifteen minutes. After installing an improved IOS one would expect similar or lower battery drain
Tests: as said, severals tips found on the internet have been tested none with any improvement. Deleting all accounts under "Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars" proved to be the only solution for this problem (a non-functional solution I must add since I'm using this iPhone for communication...). Even keeping the iCloud account but disabling all iCloud services did not improve the situation, only a real account deletion worked.
Question: do you know how to get battery drain back to -1% per fifteen minutes whilst maintaining my iCloud and Exchange account using IOS 8.1.1 on an iPhone 5s (32GB)?
    Kind regards,
    Ronald

Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.1, my battery has not been the same. I was able to get 9-10 hours of usage before and am lucky to get 6-7 hours. AppleCare thought that was on the low side and told me to visit my local Apple Store for a thorough diagnostic testing of the battery. My appointment is tomorrow. Will report back.

I upgraded two 6128 gb iphone with ios 8.1.1, since I upgraded the battery indicator no longer works properly, and consumption and increased battery while using the other hand to stand by it and stretched.
TRY TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR IPHONE 6 WHEN THE BATTERY GETS TO 61% FROM 61 TO BEGIN TO FALL direttametne 57-56 then uncovered WHEN YOU GET TO 31, STARTS TO FALL TWO OR THREE NUMBERS AT A TIME.

iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.3 updated 2 days ago.
I had 100% charge at 6pm, left it out of the charger and DID NOT USE the phone thereafter - left it sitting on my kitchen counter till the next morning. And the charge level was 43%!! How does it drop from 100% to 43% sitting on my kitchen benchtop idling away?????
The day before that (after the iOS update), it noticed it went from 100% to about 45% within half a day idling away. So I decided to do my usual fix which is leave it on the charger with the iPhone powered off, then reboot it in the morning with 100% charge - this obviously didn't fix the problem.
    C'mon Apple, FIX IT NOW!!!

  • How to restore my iPhone 3G, ios 3.1.3, from backup without updating.

How do I restore my iPhone 3G, ios 3.1.3, from a backup without updating.  I need to restore my ical entries and they are wiped out on both my main and backup drive and mobile me.  My phone is also wiped out and I think my back up may be my only hope of getting that info back.  Every time I try to restore using itunes 5.1 itunes only shows me th option to restore and update.  Not just restore.  Will the option to just restore from the last backup present itself in the process or do I need to shift click or something?  Thanks for your help...

Can't I fake it out so it just leaves my ios as it is but restores files and settings?  ios 4 doesn't really work well with the 3G models.  They get slow and buggy.  Isn't there some way to just put the ipsw file somewhere and point to it?  Or, is there a way to just rip the ical info outof the backup files.  That would work to.

  • BB 9300 battery dies without notification

    Hello,
I just got my BB curve 9300 about a month ago. I noticed the battery dies when it still has 30-40% life in it. It doesn't even give me a notification or anything. It's on one minute and I look the next and it's off. It will only turn back on if I stick it on the charger and charge it. This becomes a problem when I depend on it as an alarm in the morning or if I'm going to be out all day. I close my applications and everything. I don't think that would be a problem in this case anyways since the battery seems to still have 30-40% life in it. Does anyone else have this problem? Could this be the battery or the phone?

I have learned differently about the Li-Ion batteries, there is no need to charge fully each time to 100%, and you should NOT discharge them fullly each time below 15%.
It is explained in my link here, with many good charging tips:

  • A500-ST6622 shuts off (completely dies) without warning

My Satellite A500-ST6622 purchased in Nov. 2009, running Windows 7 with all updates, has run flawlessly until a few days ago.  Twice in the last three days while using the laptop, which was plugged into the AC outlet (it is plugged in 100% of the time), the computer instantly and completely shut off without warning.  It does not shut down or crash, but completely dies as if the power source were instantly removed.
The first time it happened I tried to restart the computer by pressing the power button but the unit again went dead (completely shut off) during boot up.  Next I disconnected the the AC power adapter, removed the battery briefly, reinserted the battery and booted up the computer without a problem.  The computer operated without problems for three days, then went dead again.
Any idea what would cause this?
    Thanks for any assistance.

Thats like a old issue. happens on quite a few Satellite models. Happened to mien too. Sent mine in for repair many times and always came back with the problem reappearing after one or more days. Taking a month to "repair" each time, my labtop warrenty ran out and its stuck with this same stupid issue. (I also had to send it in a few times because of Toshiba's failture to reseat everything(like the cd drive and usb ports) properly so that wasted more time). Toshiba has never sovled this issue and its a pain in the buttk. Dont' think Toshiba can even fix it either. Eventually you won't be able to turn on your computer(shuts off doring POST). The problem worsens over time and Toshiba can't fix it.  I'd say I barely got ot use my labtop for like 90 days out of the whole year of warrenty. Hardware Failure is a common problem in Toshiba Satellite computers

  • MacBook Pro Shuts down when battery low without warning

    Hi
My MBP has been quite power efficient. However, for the last 3 days (since I installed the Mac Update to 10.4.7, I think) when the computer runs on battery the computer switches off without warning. This happens when the battery power is about 25%. It wont restart until I connect it to the AC adapter. Upon start up the battery level is 22%.
The computer doesn't go into sleep or warns it just up and quits.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Same problem here with a 17" MacBook Pro that I have had less than a week. Just last night it started doing it. This is so frustrating, especially since it's a week 25 model. At 28%, it shuts off with no warning, and pressing the button on the battery shows no charge (no lights come on). It was working fine before, and I had already tried resetting the PMU and calibrating the battery.
I called AppleCare, and the lady I spoke with had to do some checking, and I waited on hold for a long time. When she got back, she told me that she had spoken with a product specialist and that my serial number wasn't covered by the battery recall. She then tried to tell me that the computer shutting off by itself at 28% is "normal behavior," and I should make sure to keep my battery charged up and not let it get that low. She went on to say that the battery isn't covered by the warranty, so she couldn't send me a new battery and I should take my computer to an authorized service provider (the nearest of which is 80 miles away) to have them diagnose the problem.
I told her (nicely) that it is most certainly not normal behavior--it's unacceptable. So she put me on the line with a product specialist, who I had to convince that there was a problem with my battery. I told him that the full charge capacity has been fluctuating all over the place and that I've been getting poor battery life (due to the fluctuating capacity combined with the computer shutting off at 28%).
He said that even though my serial number wasn't covered by the battery recall, he would send me a new one. And of course I had to give him my credit card number to ensure that I returned my old one.
Anyway, hopefully the new battery fixes it for me. If I can remember, I'll update on my situation in case anyone's interested.

  • IPhone 5  iOS 6.0.2 battery fix (unofficial.. I think I got it)

I bought the iPhone 5 last week , love the phone .. Battery life was great , didn't use it much though . Never even thought battery life an issue . Updated it to 6.0.2. Immediately noticed decreased battery life. Not what some people claim on this forum of phone dying in 2 hrs (these people probably have a hardware issue or are against apple no matter what ) but my new decreased battery life was more like 6-8 hrs occasional use or more like a shift at work and I need a charge. So I took  phone back to place of purchase (only 3 days old) . Got a new one. DID NOT update to 6.0.2 this time. Again battery life was great. About 2 days later , I noticed severe drain , this on 6.0.1. THIS LEADS ME TO BELEIVE IT IS NOT 6.0.2 but the issue resides in 6.0.1. Went online ... Researched the issue . Read forums , posts .. Everything. I also recall terrible battery life on my old 4s as well after going to 6.0.1 . That's the reason why I upgraded to the 5. To get better battery life. But this is not the case.
So after doing absolutely everything ie. reset , reboot, DFU reset , wipe device , restore.. Turned apps off, settings  off , location settings etc etc etc. I still had no luck .
My guess is that it's a COMBO of factors when in place TOGETHER and only when TOGETHER trigger the draining battery cascade.  That's why its so hard to identify. Once the phone goes into drain mode .. It takes a lot of resets , wipes settings turned on then off.. Ie to catch it and shut it down but when factors come together again.. Battery drainage resumes.. COULD be an app TOGEThER with an setting in the phone... Could be how the phone is used... Ie. iCloud + something else.. The way you charge with certain apps running.. The way you close apps.. Etc. THiS IS WHY SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE ISSUE AND SOME DON'T. ,,!
So not being an apple engineer (none of us are..!) we could only hope to guess or try out different things to figure it out ....
I spent hours( days ) trying different stuff  and I feel I might have nailed the magic setting/(s)
Please this is exactily what I did.. .. If it doesn't work, well than 6.1 might be the only help. THIS Worked for me !! In no way I claim what exactly fixes it only this is what I did and all together " exactly " what stopped battery drain. If this helped you like it helped me you could start using your phone the way you want. The way it should be.

You could experiment ie. by turning mail to push etc... But these are the settings that worked for me. I don't know which one or which COMBO did it .. All I can say is I'm using my phone nicely now. I spent a lot of time on this  trying so many combos so if it worked for You feel free to reply back positively or shoot me a PayPal or something:-) couple bucks won't hurt !!!

I agree- I apologize if I sounded skeptical and attacking. In no way did I mean it to sound that way.
I completely agree on the software-hardware combo issue- this is why apple killed off 1G and 2G devices- because newer software revisions would never ever run well if at all on such ancient devices. can you imagine running iOS 6 on an iPhone/iPod touch 1G? That would be terrible. Let alone iOS 3 runs terrible on them and now are generally rendered useless due to newer App Store requirements (most require 4.3+ now to allow apple to kill off the older devices). forcing newer software on older hardware (apple, dell, HP,... Anything electronic this definitely applies to) will almost always yield less-than-par results. The other part is apple forcing you to upgrade by means of intentially making things obsolete. all companies do that.
All of this factual info aside, the issue at hand with the 5 is not a software-hardware combo problem- those are most widely seen with the major revisions. then again, this isn't the first time apple has gotten caught up in battery drain snafus (even iOS 5 was plagued with this as well- and now there are some people desperate to roll back but can't). it basically waters it down to the point where keeping the stock software will always yield the best results even though newer versions provide better features- it all depends on whether or not the person deems the added features are worth a performance hit.
PS. I'm still at 100%- and I've been using it periodically throughout the day. your combo worked for you, but didn't for me. And may or may not work for others- As the tech world would say, mileage may vary.
PSS. What model/carrier do you have? Just wondering.

  • IPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1 battery issue

Hi, i have an iPhone 4S 16GB iOS 5.1.1 and have terrible battery life.
I fully charged my phone to 100% this morning and it has drained 70% in just 7 hours under very minimal usage [wifi OFF - cellular data OFF - bluetooth OFF - photo stream OFF - location services OFF] also i have only 15 downloaded apps and about 400 songs after a major cleanup.
I also factory restored my device the day before and had done multiple hard resets, so please don't give me advice about that. I am wondering if there is any fix because atm i am certainly leaving apple if there is no fix

Who are you talking to?  Did you do a forum search?  (Start with the "More Like This list on the right side of this screen.)

  • Iphone 6, iOS 8.0.2, battery drain & overheating

So I upgraded to an iphone 6 from an iphone 5. The phone came with iOS 8.0.2. It seems that I am not the only one with this issue but my my phone gets hot after a short use and battery drains rather quickly. It seems to be a software issue since many people are exhibiting the same symptoms. My battery usage shows that the Home & Lock Screen ate up 26% of the battery and my settings ate up 22%. That seems a tad high. Battery is at 84% after 56 min usage and 4 hr 14 min at standby. Note this is on the initial charge after transferring my data from the iphone 5 to the iphone 6. Battery has not fully drained yet. What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

I have a similar problem on my 5s. Since updating it has stopped allowing me to send texts to my wive, but will accept them and allows calls.
I must add that I can text her when on wifi, and also from my mac, but when on 4g?
    Any ideas?

That could be the reason if you have a weak cellular data signal.

  • I need help with IPHOne 4s IOS 7.0.4 battery life not improving

Alright, I Ned help with my iPhone 4S battler life, it is horrible, it will drain in about 12 hours. All I do is check my email, text a few people, and check a few apps. When I may school, it is a hundred percent, then I check it during school etc, when I go to bed it is about 20-30% battery life. Need help. Any suggestions? I tried a hard resets and restoring to a new iPhone etc, nothing worked.

I"m not at all sure what is the problem when you are describing your battery as holding its charge for 12 hours???
How long do you want your device to hold its battery charge???
Please see this article for tips on conserving battery charge. But PLEASE if you are looking for a device to hold its charge for LONGER than 12 hours I would suggest an android.

  • Iphone 5 (ios 7.0.4) battery drains in 2hours

i know there is a ton of threads out there already about iphone 5 batter drain issues.
    i want to know;
    1. is there a legit fix for this?
    2. is there any update coming SOON from apple to fix this?
i work in sports and i need my phone to work; i cant have it plugged in all the time.  if thats the case i might as well go with landline again.
can someone make a suggestion here.
    Thanks

    i'll try this.  Thanks.
do you recommend those battery Dr. Apps? do they even work?
    - this is the thing, i dont do anything crazy; standard stuff like checking emails, responding to txt's; phone calls that last no more than 5-6mins tops. But i've noticed that i used to be able to run all day without issues, and recently (i'd say about a month) i'll use it for 20mins and and i'll see it go from 100% to 65% in a flash... it messes me up for the rest of the day.
even today for example... i saw this reply on my phone and i was at 36%.  by the time i read the post, did all the recommended things in the article; the phone died.  and that took no more than 10mins to do all that.  so i'm stumpped.
never had this problem before, then poof.... and i have 4 iphones; (iphone 5, iphone 4s and 2 iphone 4's) iphone 5 and 4s are on ios7 and have this same problem; the 4's are still on ios 6 and are running like well oiled machines.  i hope this works.
any other suggestions, send them my way. and i'll keep you posted on my end.
    thanks for the help.

  • I updated both iPad and iPhone to iOS 7.06. Battery lif goes extremely fast, maybe a tenth of what it was.

I updated to the latest version of the iOS. My battery life on both iPad and iPhone have dropped to nothing. My phone goes dead by noon. I have turned off every "push" locator, everything I can think off. Is anyone else having this trouble?

On my iPad 3, I noticed with the update to iOS 7.0.6 that it turned on features by default that I had previously turned off, such as Bluetooth. You might want to check to see if active features are now turned on that you previously turned off. Some of them, like Bluetooth, will cause an additional drain on the battery.
